James Edmund “Jim” Thorpe, 76, of Beloit, WI, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Beloit Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born March 13, 1928 in Lansing, MI, the son of John and Gladys (Goodall) Thorpe. Jim was a 1946 graduate of Delavan/Darien High School, and attended Milton College. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a corpsman. Jim married Eleanor Simenson on August 4, 1951 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Beloit, WI.

Jim worked as a superintendent at the Beloit Foundry and at Baker Manufacturing in Evansville, WI until his retirement in 1983. He filled his time during his leisure years working at the Fairfield Inn in Beloit, WI. Jim loved nothing more than to spend time with his family. He enjoyed yearly vacations in Florida, where he had honeymooned with his wife. Jim attended People’s Church for many years.

Jim’s friendly demeanor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; his children, Sandra Thorpe-Weeden, Gregory (Donna) Thorpe, Nancy (Mark) Bromhead, and Julie (Jim) Barker; eight grandchildren, Blake Weeden, Scott Thorpe, Jarred Thorpe, Ryan Thorpe, Christa Bromhead, Jenna Bromhead, Josh Barker and Jordan Barker; sister, Nancy (Peter) Halverson; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, sister Virginia Glendenning Bauer, grandchildren, Ashley and Jonathan Barker.

Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2004 in Central Christian Church with Pastor David Meding officiating. Private burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services Friday in the church. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

Ronald Martin Thorson, 66, of Janesville, WI, died Friday, July 9, 2004 in his home.

He was born August 11, 1937 in Beloit, WI, the son of Oscar and Elizabeth Ellefsen Thorson. Ron was a 1956 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. He attended DeKalb University from 1956-1960. He was a veteran that served in the United States Army from 1960-1963 in Boston and Korea. Ron returned to Beloit and was employed by the Beloit Building and Loan. He married Janice Stout of Beloit, WI on September 18, 1965.

The Thorson’s then moved to Tomah, WI, in 1973 and he was employed by the Wisconsin Savings Association, he later became President of the Savings Association. He was elected Municipal Judge of Tomah and served on the bench for six years. He retired from the Wisconsin Savings Association in 1991, and relocated to Janesville, WI.

Ron was an avid “golf duffer” and had a love for basketball. He was always ready for a good time with a lot of laughs.

Ron served on the Board of Directors or as an officer of the following organizations: The Lions Club, Rotary Club, Tomah Chamber of Commerce, Tomah’s Fair Board and the Hiawatha Golf Club. He also served a term of Presidency for the Forward Tomah Association. Other organizations Ron were involved in include Tomah’s Hockey Association and Ambassador Club.

He is survived by his children Derry (Jenny) Thorson of Merrill, WI, Shelly Thorson and Bryan Thorson both of Janesville, WI; his grandchildren, Brandon and Brielle Thorson of Merrill, WI; brother, Marvin (June) Thorson of Beloit, WI; sister, Carol Helsdon of Rockford, IL and several niece and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Janice in May of 1986 at the age of 41 and both of his parents.

A visitation will be held at Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2004. In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated. A private family service will be held in Tomah, WI, at a later date.

Bernard Taylor, 58, of South Beloit, IL, died Sunday, June 27, 2004 in his home.

He was born November 19, 1945 in Hillsboro, WI, the son of William Henry and Valda Elliot Taylor. Bernard went to be with his beloved, Lois Herritz. He was the operator of Taylor’s Auto Sales. He loved fishing, talking with people about cars and telling jokes.

Survivors include his children, Kim Taylor of Viola, WI, Brenda (Dwayne) Stuckey of Beloit, WI, Susan (John Geise) Taylor of Beloit, WI, and Amanda (Robert) Ford- Wade of Rockford, IL; eight grandchildren; one great grandson; brothers, Bill (Shirley) Taylor of Jacksonville, FL, Lloyd (Josephine) Taylor of Beloit, WI, Marvin (Nancy) Taylor of Sturgeon Bay, WI and Danny (Josephine) Taylor of South Beloit, IL; half brother, Bufford (Lynn) Worthington of Alvarado, TX; half sister, Betty Severs of Rockford, IL.

He was predeceased by his parents, former wife, Lois, and mother-in-law, Darlene Herritz.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2004 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Gene Van Galder officiating. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Janesville, WI. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Andy Louis Thorson, 32, of Burlington, WI, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 16, 2004 in his home.

He was born on July 7, 1971 in Beloit, WI, the cherished son of William and Elona Mellen Thorson. Andy was a 1989 graduate of Turner High School, and a former Turner Trojan Football Champion. He received his associate’s degree in police science from Blackhawk Technical College in 1991.

Andy was formerly employed by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department. He was an avid listener of pop and contemporary music. Andy loved fishing and all sports. He was a member of Central Christian Church.

Andy is survived by Heidi Thorson the love of his life and their six year old son, Dylan Thomas Thorson the pride of his life of Burlington, WI; his best friend and big brother, William J. Thorson Jr. of Burlington, WI; special sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Dale Lutze of Menomonee Falls, WI; beloved nephews, Nathan and Alex Lutze; adoring grandmother, Gyneth Elliott of Richland Center; several fond aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2004 in Central Christian Church with Pastor Norman Starks officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.

Memorials may be given towards the education of Dylan Thorson.

Dorothy L. Chesky Turner, 83, of Beloit, WI, died Friday, March 26, 2004 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 19, 1921 in Davenport, IA. Dorothy married Harlan Chesky on June 7, 1947 in Beloit, WI. He predeceased her on October 18, 1972. She married George H. Turner on December 2, 1983 in Beloit.

Dorothy was a homemaker while her children were growing up. Later she went to work for Beloit Clinic for 20 years, retiring in 1986. Dorothy was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2306 Auxiliary, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #191, and the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, George H. Turner of Beloit, WI; three children, Glo (Bill) Theisen of Madison, WI, Dennis (Bess Carver) Chesky of Gainesville, FL and Cindy Chesky of Beloit, WI; five grandchildren, Brent (Keely) Theisen of Madison, WI, Misty DuCharme of Beloit, WI, Derek (Aimee Torres) Theisen of Madison, WI, Jennifer Chesky of Tampa, FL and Billy DuCharme of Beloit, WI; two nieces, Shirley Lee and Arlene Nelson; three nephews, Ron Reid of Napa, CA and Dave (Cathy) Reid of Naples, FL and Jim Sanborn.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Sally Sanborn and Edith Roberson, sisters-in-law, Gladys Reid, Illa McMillen, brothers-in-law, Clarence Chesky, Willis Reid and Edgar Sanborn and mother-in-law, Marcella Loukkanen.

The family would like to thank Dr. From and the Beloit Memorial Hospital staff for their loving care of Dorothy.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004 in the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jim Rowlette officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday in the church.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Beloit Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Louise B. Thompson 80, died Tuesday March 16, 2004 in the Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born on October 3, 1923 in Beloit, WI the daughter of William and Bernice Thompson Backenger. Louise married Arne C. Thompson on May 15, 1941 in Argyle WI. He predeceased her on October 10, 1987. She attended the Beloit School System and was a homemaker who loved working in her garden. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2306 Auxiliary and a longtime bowler.

Survivors include her children, Arnold (Aleta) Thompson of Brodhead WI; David (Margaret) Thompson of Waynesboro, PA; Donald (Beth) Thompson of Brodhead, WI; Harold (Nancy Kressin) Thompson of Beloit, WI; four grandsons; Arne C (Jodi) Thompson; Donald (Lisa) Thompson; Jason (Danielle) Thompson; Brian (Billy Jo) Thompson; five granddaughters; Tish (Blaine) Corell, Danielle, Amanda, Katie and Nicole Thompson; nine great-grandchildren; Andrew, Alyssa, Katelyn, Brittany, Mariah, Brielle, Beau, Anna, and Jordan; special great-grandchildren; Jonathan and Ryan; brother, Clarence (Joanne) Backenger of Beloit, WI; sisters, Edith (Buford) Huffman of FL; Donna (Terry) Dobratz of Beloit, WI; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. She and her husband, Arne, enjoyed entertaining family and friends in their retirement home in Adams, WI.

Her parents, sister Helen Riley, and four brothers; Roy, Jay, Lee and Robert Backenger predeceased her.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 19, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI with the Reverend Norm Starks officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, March 18, 2004 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Lillian A. Tepe, 101, of Stoughton, WI and formerly of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, January 17, 2004 in Skaalen Retirement Services, Stoughton, WI.

She was born September 2, 1902 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Frederick William and Anna Dorathea Dehling Tepe. Lillian was a graduate of Beloit High School.

Lillian was employed by Yates American, the office of Dr. Crockett and Dr. Brown for 30 years and then went to work for the Visiting Nurses Association, retiring in 1967. She was loved by all whose life she touched.

Survivors include her cousins and lots of friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Arden Tepe.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2004 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Charles Thain and Robert Eberhardt officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in her name to Meals on Wheals or the Red Cross.

Anthony R. “Tony” Taylor, 31, of Monroe, WI, died Thursday, January 8, 2004 in his home.

He was born February 3, 1972 in Beloit, WI, the son of David C. Taylor. Tony was a 1991 graduate of Parker High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines Force Recon stationed in Kaneohe Bay, HI.

Tony was a lifetime member of the Marine Corp. League. He enjoyed parachuting, scuba diving, boxing and playing softball. Tony enjoyed life and spending time with his friends.

Survivors include his father, David C. Taylor of Monroe, WI; one brother, Lance C. Taylor of Janesville, WI; great uncle, Joe Pantaleo of Beloit, WI; two aunts, Cindy (Dan) Jeffers of Bonita Springs, FL and Marielln (Brian) Dawald of Janesville, WI; cousins, Carl Pantaleo and Patricia Pantaleo both of Chicago, IL, Michael (Melinda) Jeffers, Patrick Jeffers and Ryan (Shelley) Jeffers all of Florida, Ashley and Nicholas Dawald of Janesville, WI.

Tony will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Royal and Phyllis Taylor.

Prayer services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2004 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady Of The Assumption Catholic Church with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
