Roy Thomason, 88, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, December 11, 2003 in Beloit Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on July 10, 1915 in Rockford, IL, the son of Karl and Frida Carlgren Thomason. Roy married Elizabeth J. Meehan in 1941. She predeceased him on April 27, 2002. Roy was employed by Rockford Machine Tool for 50 years, retiring in 1982.

Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Thomason and her husband Quentin Hart-Slater of Milwaukee, WI; son, Richard and his wife Nora Thomason of Battle Creek, MI; grandchildren, Kristen Thomason of Fort Worth, TX and Patrick Thomason of Battle Creek, MI; one sister, Ruth (Judge Charles R.) Simpson of Sarasota, FL.

He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Runard Thomason.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2003 in St. Jude Catholic Church with Fr. Steven Kortendick officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with a Rosary at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Beloit Health and Rehabilitation Center in memory of Mr. Thomason.

James S. Tilley Sr., 85, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, December 8, 2003 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 12, 1917 in Beloit, WI, the son of Nate and Cora Stordock Tilley. James married June Dibbert on February 7, 1936 in Beloit, WI. She predeceased him on
September 27, 1972.

James was a 1936 graduate of Beloit High School. He was the founder, owner and operator of Tilley’s Pizza House & Ballyhoo in Beloit. He was a member of the Beloit Tavern league and the Star Zenith Boat Club, Beloit. He loved to golf, travel to Las Vegas and spending time with all his friends at Tilley’s and Harpo’s. James was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinal fan.

Survivors include his two sons, Ronald (Janet) Tilley and Kenneth (Donna) Tilley both of Beloit, WI; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Leigh) Tilley of Appleton, WI; companion, Barbara McGonigal and special friend of 80 years, Mel Dooley.

He was predeceased by his parents, son, James Tilley Jr., daughter, Judith Tilley Bowers, sister, Harriett Polglaze, and brother, Nate Tilley.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Beloit. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in his name to the American Cancer Society.

Frank E. Taylor, 74, of South Beloit, IL, died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

He was born January 14, 1929 in Beloit, WI, the son of Frank E. and Lula Martha Plunkett Taylor. Frank was a 1947 graduate of Beloit High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. Frank married Loretta C. Dotson on August 12, 1960 in Dubuque, IA.

Frank was employed as a fire fighter for the City of Beloit for 38 years, retiring at the rank of captain in 1984. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters, the retired Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, V.F.W. Post # 4252 in Hernando, FL, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 2112 in Inverness, FL.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta of South Beloit, IL; two sons, Charles (Barbara) of Boise, Idaho, and Donald (Betty) of Santa Maria, CA; one daughter, Marie (Paul) of Henderson, NV; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and three sisters.

Private services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend William W. Wagner officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Heart Association.

EVELYN E. TOBIAS, 78, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, June 30, 2003 in her home.

She was born June 13, 1925 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Kovacs Tobias.
Evelyn was a 1943 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School.

Evelyn worked as a librarian for the Beloit Public Library for 34 years, from 1957 to1991. In her retirement she enjoyed traveling and sharing her life with a close circle of friends, including many great nieces and nephews. During the last twenty years of her life, she lived at the Cranston Road Apartments. Evelyn was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her brother, Don (Eleanor) Tobias of Madison, WI; sister-in-law, Lucille Tobias of Beloit, WI; nieces and nephews, Mary E. Brady of Madison, WI, Thomas P. (Janis) Brady of San Diego, CA, Margaret (Glenn) Stousland of Beaver Dam, WI, Diane Tobias of Waukesha, WI, Don (Marcy) Tobias of Beloit, WI, Bill (Liz) Schoenfeldt of Edgerton, WI, Janie (Martin) Finkel of Rochester, NY, John (Debra) Bergstrom of Rockford, IL, Karen (Carey) Blair of Medina, OH, Suzanne (Vern) Allen of Chicago, IL, and John (Betty) Tobias of St. Charles, IL.

She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Louis Tobias and John Tobias, three sisters, Margaret Schoenfeld, Elizabeth Brady and Julia Bergstrom.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 in East Lawn Cemetery, with the Reverend Thomas R. Wanner officiating. There will be no visitation. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, Ms. Tobias’ family request that memorial gifts be directed to any of the following organizations: Friends of the Beloit Public Library, Beloit Regional Home Companions Registry, Beloit Regional Hospice, or First Presbyterian Church.

HELEN A. TAPP, 101, of Beloit, WI, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 in Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.

She was born August 24, 1901 in Stark County, IL, the daughter of Joseph W. and Laura G. Swope Tapp. Helen was employed by Murkland Shoe Store, Dougan Dairy Farm, and Mueller Pinehurst, retiring in 1977. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 32 years. Helen enjoyed and loved her family very much. She was a devoted Christian and being involved in the church was very important to her.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, Marjorie Gray of Beloit, WI, Martha Parker of Casper, WY, Audrey Groff of Hemphill, TX, Joyce Nelson of Loveland, CO, Wayne Tapp of Schaumburg, IL, Laurella Hollingsworth of Chrisman, IL, Edith Richardson of Sandy, UT, Larena McNamara of Madison, WI, Don Woods of Janesville, WI, Marjorie Meade of Minooka, IL, Helen Johnson of Bloomington, IL, Elsie Woike of Apache Junction, AZ, Norma Rupp of Pekin, IL, Jim Wilson of Hopedale, IL, Tom Wilson of Hopedale, IL, Libby Westfall of Bloomington, IL, Reyburn Wilson of Hopedale, IL, Howard Wenkel of Wonder Lake, IL, Cheryl Gregory of Mt. Zion, IL, Nancy Knoch of Reno, NV, Ruth Vidunas of Seattle, WA, Phylis Hawkins of Pekin, IL, and Lester Wenkel of San Antonio, TX; cousin, Francis Bailey St. John.

She was predeceased by her parents, her twin brother, Harold Tapp and other sisters and brothers, Sadie Wilson, Grace Wenkel, Clara Peterson, Harry Tapp, Olive Woods, and Glenn Tapp, nieces, Mary Jane O’Neill, Muriel Ball, Glendolyn Rieken, Carol Conway, Ardis Anderson, and Laura Saturday, nephew, Robert Wilson.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2003 in the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jim Rowlette officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. until the time of services Monday in the church. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be given in her name to First United Methodist Church.

BENJAMIN HESS THOMPSON, 97, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, May 8, 2003 in Riverside Terrace, Beloit, WI.

He was born June 21, 1905 in Spring Valley Township, WI, the son of Edgar and Julia Hess Thompson. Benjamin married Orrel Glidden on December 31, 1934 in Rockford, IL.

Benjamin was employed by Fairbanks Morse & Company for 46 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Phoenix Chapter #215, Order of the Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge No. 10 F& A.M., Beloit Commandery # 6 and the Fairbanks Morse Quarter Century Club. Benjamin was a member of Second Congregational Church.

Survivors include his wife, Orrel of Beloit, WI; one son, Jerold (Penny) Thompson of Mitchell, NE; four grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and three sisters.

Masonic services will be held at 10:45 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Douglas Gray officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Evansville, WI. There will be no visitation.

KARLA J. UDELL, 38, of Madison, WI, and formerly of Janesville, WI, died Thursday, May 15, 2003 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison, WI.

She was born March 2, 1965 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Thomas Harold and Carol Ann (Driscoll) Udell. Karla was a 1983 graduate of Janesville Craig.

Karla was currently employed for several years by the Dane County Juvenile Detention Center, she was a former employee for the Odyssey Group Home for 10 years working with young boys as a caseworker, and formerly employed by Lake City Church in Madison, WI. She was a member of Lake City Church and a former member of St. John Vianney. Karla was a Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger fan. She enjoyed softball, golf, fishing, traveling to Florida were she especially enjoyed deep-sea fishing. Karla enjoyed helping troubled people as well as fostering youth’s and listening to Christian music.

Survivors include her parents Thomas and Carol Udell of Homosassas, FL; two brothers, Steven (Connie) Udell of Janesville, WI, and Randy (Brad) Udell of Fitchburg, WI; one sister, Holly (Brian) Dempsey of Milton, WI; three nephews, Benjamin and Andrew Udell of Janesville, WI, and Tyler Dempsey of Milton, WI; one niece, Erin Udell of Janesville, WI; several aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends and beloved cat angle.

She was predeceased by one brother, Ronald Udell, maternal and paternal grandparents.

Prayer services will be 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003 in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. in St. John Vianney Church, 1245 Clark, Janesville, WI, with Father Mike Doro officiating. Visitation will be Monday May 19, 2003 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with family prayers at 8:15 p.m. in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.

Kenneth Van Kampen, 87, of Beloit, WI died Saturday, January 1, 2005 at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 21, 1917 in Clinton, Minnesota the son of Bert and Bertha Van Kampen. Kenneth attended Dunwoody Institute and was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Army. He married Rita Carroll in 1941 and they had twelve children. She predeceased him after 25 years of marriage. On October 21, 1967 he married Jean Merriman, the mother of five children, in Oregon, IL.

Kenneth worked at Fairbanks Morse and Warner Electric. He was superintendent at Babcock & Wilcox until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Jean; children, Ken Van Kampen, Karen (Dale) Panton, Pat (Buzz) Gunderson, Pauline (Steve) Smith, Peter (Mary) Van Kampen, Bruce McCormick, Kevin (Patti) Van Kampen, Kathleen (Rick Bone) Van Kampen, Phillip (Liz) Van Kampen, Thais (John Breslouf) Savage, Penny (Scott Borene) Van Kampen, Jodi (Paul) Sorrentino, Kolleen (Raymond Dufloth) Fischer, Rhett Merriman, Stewart (Diana) Merriman and Kolin Van Kampen; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; special senior companion, Norma Nitz and faithful lounge chair companions, Holly Berry and Minnie Mo.

He was predeceased by his son, Kristopher Van Kampen, parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2005 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI 53511 with Deacon Jim Davis officiating. Visitation will be 3:30 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday in the funeral home. Celebration to follow service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association in Janesville, WI.

Annie Veroni, 87, formerly of South Beloit, IL, died Friday, October 22, 2004 in Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.

She was born on September 14, 1917 in South Beloit, IL, the daughter of August and Amelia Notari Veroni. Annie attended South Beloit Schools. She was owner of a green house and vegetable garden. Annie enjoyed flowers and cats.

Survivors include her sister, Lydia Osterbur of Beloit, WI; nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Myron Veroni and two sisters, Lisa Bartolini and Julia Nottoli.

Prayer services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 28, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Jerome P. Koutnik officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
