Arnold Wiedmer
Arnold Wiedmer of Beaver Dam died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999 at his residence. He was 78 years old.
He was born Feb. 22, 1921 in Bern, Switzerland to Arnold and Rosa (Streit) Wiedmer. He married Irma Kolell in Hartford on Sept. 21, 1946.
He was a licensed cheesemaker, then entered and served with the U.S. Navy. He was employed at Starkweather in Beaver Dam for many years and then Arnold worked at Green Giant until his retirement. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Evangelical Church in Beaver Dam for over 40 years.
He is survived by his wife; three children, Steven (Patricia) of Campbellsport, Carol of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and David (Heather) of Baraboo; one sister, Olga Kissling of Redding, Calif.; six grandchildren; one great grandchild, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Earl Kissling.
The funeral service took place on Nov. 13 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. Rev. Mark Lindner officiated. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery.

Melvin E. Ramel, 80
Melvin E. Ramel, 80, of Random Lake, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital, Milwaukee.
He was born May 14, 1919, in the town of Scott, to the late Edward and Bertha (nee Hiller) Ramel, and on June 7, 1947, married Florence Weber at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott.
After marriage, the couple farmed the Ramel homestead until 1958. Mr. Ramel was then employed at The West Bend Co. until retiring in June, 1979.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Scott.
Survivors include his wife; three brothers-in-law, William (LaVern) Weber of New Berlin, Ira Weber of Beechwood and Vernon (Delores) Weber of Adell; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Scott. Rev. David Meyer will officiate, and entombment will be in Gardens of Peace Mausoleum, Sheboygan.
Visitation at the church only will be Sunday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.
A memorial fund has been established in Melvin Ramel's name.
The Wilk Funeral Home Random Lake, is serving the family.

William F. Carroll, 64
Funeral services will be held this evening at Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, for Cedarburg resident William F. Carroll, 64, who died Dec. 3, 1999.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m., with a funeral led by Rev. Tim McIntosh planned for 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Carroll was born in Chicago on Sept. 22, 1935, son of the late William F. Carroll II and the late Rozsika Gyorke.
He married Donna Dwyer on Jan. 17, 1969 in Illinois.
Mr. Carroll worked as a salesman.
He is survived by his wife Donna Carroll of Cedarburg; daughters Beth Carroll of Seattle, Lisa Carroll of Flagstaff, Ariz., Shannon (Steve) Block of Random Lake and Brenna Carroll of Cedarburg; sons William IV (Becky) Carroll of West Bend and Andrew Carroll of West Bend; brother Denes (Glenna) Carroll of United Arab Emirates; sister Rozsika (Clyde) Schultz of California; 13 grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Ronald J. ‘Max’ Menden
Ronald J. "Max" Menden, age 66, died Nov. 5, 1999.
He was the loving father of Terry (Carmine) Vara and Michael (Cindy), loving friend and companion of Gertrude Buth, dear grandfather of Paul and Katelyn Vara and Jennifer, Jeffrey and John Menden; great grandfather of Jurnee Menden; brother of Betty (Doug) Corrigan, the late Richard Menden, Robert (Doris) Obst and Janice (Chuck) Baldridge. Special friend of Jack and Ed. Further survived by other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday after 5:30 p.m. at Wisconsin Memorial Park - Chapel of the Chimes, 13235 W. Capitol Drive, with the service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated.
The Church and Chapel Funeral Service is serving the family.

George R. Smedal, 63
George R. Smedal of the town of Jackson died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital, West Bend, at the age of 63.
He was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Minneapolis, Minn., to the late George and Bertha (nee Berber) Smedal, and married Bridget Ann Sheridan at St. Margaret Mary Church in 1969 in Milwaukee.
From 1982 until 1997, he and Bridget owned and operated Smedal's Village Grocery in Fredonia.
George loved to travel and also loved his basset hound Buster.
Survivors include his wife; two children, Nick of Fredonia and Jessica of the town of Jackson; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, Jackson, with Father Gerald Brittain officiating.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Helene A. Mantz, 81
Helene A. Mantz, nee Schulze, 81, of West Bend, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
She was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Milwaukee, to the late Gustav and Elizabeth (nee Griebling) Schulze, and married Walter E. Mantz on June 1, 1940, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Milwaukee.
She was an active member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Lynn (Dennis) Garvey of Kewaskum and Gail (Gary) Luck of Hubertus; a son, Ned (Bonnie) of Jackson; eight grandchildren, David (June) Garvey of West Bend, Erin Garvey of Kewaskum, James Garvey of Kewaskum, Marie Kutz of West Bend, Garrett (Stephanie) Luck of Shawnee, Kan., Katie Luck of Wauwatosa, Kenneth (Sandy) Mantz of West Bend and William (Lisa) Mantz of West Bend; 11 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a brother and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Pleasant Valley Road, West Bend. Rev. Kenneth Schmidt will officiate, and burial will be in Trinity Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, West Bend.
Visitation at the church only will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.
The Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Milton P. Brost, 85
Milton P. Brost, of West Bend, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999 at his residence at the age of 85 years.
He was born on May 30, 1914 in West Bend to the late Harry and Amanda (nee Ziehar) Brost and he married Margaret Miller on July 22, 1939 in West Bend. He was employed at the Gehl Company in West Bend for many years and he loved sports, especially baseball, football and basketball.
He is survived by his wife Margaret; five children, Dorothy (George) Johnson of Florida, Milton Brost Jr., Mary Brost, Evelyn Brost and Allan (Lisa) Brost, all of West Bend; five grandchildren, Sherry, Richard, Karen, Kelly and Kay; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard (Ethel) Brost of Milwaukee; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Brost, and his stepfather, Art Hensel.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 23, at 1 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, with Rev. Victor Hackbarth officiating. Burial will follow at Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
Visitation will be at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of services.

Frank B. Shaver Jr., 44
Frank B. Shaver Jr. of West Bend, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999 at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital of West Bend at the age of 44 years.
He was born to Frank Sr. (Patricia Wagner) Shaver on Dec. 21, 1954 in Norfolk, Va. Born and raised in Norfolk, he came to Wisconsin in 1972.
He married Amy M. Casper on Oct. 11, 1980 in Milwaukee. After marriage, the couple lived in the West Bend area. He was self-employed as the owner and operator of Genesis Packaging Co. of West Bend for more than six years.
He is survived by his parents; the cherished husband and soulmate of his wife Amy; proud and loving dad to Casey and Kyle, both at home; adored son-in-law to John A. Casper, of West Bend; and best friend and brother to Craig Shaver, of West Bend. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Nancy (Randy) Klabunde, of Port Washington, Lora (Tom) Pence, of Okemos, Mich, and Dawn (Ted) Fischer, of Port Washington; brothers-in-law Steven (Karen) Casper, of Oshkosh, Kim (Cindy) Casper, of Austin, Texas, and Scott (Linda) Casper, of Austin, Texas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was his mother-in-law Shirley L. Casper of Cedarburg.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 1999 at the Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend, officiated by Father Patrick Wendt. Interment will be at Parkview Cremations of Fond du Lac.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
"May he rest in peace knowing our hearts will go on!"
