Ralph D. Morris, 66
Ralph D. Morris, 66, of West Bend, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee.
He was born April 11, 1933, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Roy and Virginia (nee Cardwell) Morris.
Ralph worked on the family farm in Bloomington, Ind. until enlisting in the U.S. Army when he was 17. He proudly served his country in Korea and in 1953 was honorably discharged from the Army.
He settled in West Bend and began to work for The West Bend Co. where he met Geraldine Vujnovich. After a short courtship they married and had five children.
Ralph was the owner of Morris Radio and Television in West Bend for many years. Back when TV was a very new and exciting appliance, Ralph wrote a weekly newspaper column for the West Bend News offering tips, advice and information about how the television worked.
In the 1960s he moved to California where he worked as a long-haul truck driver until back problems forced him to find a different career.
Ralph decided to move to Texas where he started a landscape business and was offered a position as the county's animal control officer. Ralph served in this position until his illness struck in the early 1990s.
After being diagnosed with advanced cancer, Ralph moved to Fond du Lac to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Through the VA he volunteered for several drug trials and was able to put the cancer into remission three times. During this time he spent as much time with his children and "grandbabies" as possible.
As the cancer took his strength he moved in with his son, Phillip, in West Bend. Ralph tried to make the best of every day.
Survivors include five children, John (Kathleen) of Budd Lake, N.J., Debra Schuette of Fond du Lac, Michael and Phillip, both of West Bend and Timothy (Jennifer) of Oshkosh; nine grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Violet) of Bloomington, Ind.; three sisters, Barbara (Marvin) Smith of Colt, Ark., Marjorie (William) Bowman and Phyllis (Bill) Brinegar, both of Bloomington; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Richard, in infancy.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with Fr. Jeff Haines officiating.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 5 p.m. until the time of services.

Genevieve M. Gengler, 76
Genevieve M. Gengler, nee Higgins, of the town of Barton, died Monday, Aug. 23, 1999, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.
She was born Oct. 13, 1922, in Medford, to the late Sherman and Beulah (nee Donaldson) Higgins.
After her marriage to Eugene J. Gengler on Oct. 16, 1943, in Medford, the couple settled in Medford until moving to Milwaukee in 1952. In 1955 they came to the West Bend area.
Genevieve liked fishing, flower gardening and bird watching.
Survivors include her husband; three children, Mary (Michael) Maeder and Phillip (Marjorie), both of West Bend and Michael (Adrianne) of Oconto; 12 grandchildren, Laura (Dietrich) Schlueter, Aaron and Brad Maeder, Michelle (Bradford) Davison, Rochelle and Adam (Nicole) Gengler, Cynthia Willems, Jeanine and Laura Leneau, and Sherman, Sarah and Nicholas Gengler; 11 great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Leah Rose, Jordan and Madeline Mae Schlueter, Emma Maeder, Hayden and Grace Davison, Cole Gengler and Maria, Sierra and Darien Willems; seven brothers and sisters, Lorraine (Matt) Gengler, Glenn (Delores) Higgins, Richard (Irene) Higgins and Roger (Faye) Higgins, all of Medford, Florence (Malen) Warczypowa of Nekoosa, Caroline (Wilford) Butler of Withee and Marie (Conrad) Nelson of Ogema; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 27, at 9:30 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Church. Fr. Jerry Repenshek will be the presider, and burial will follow in Holy Angels cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services. There will also be a prayer vigil at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Those who wish may give memorials to Holy Angels School Trust Fund.
Grandma Genevieve was loved and adored by her family, especially by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Helen E. Julian, 82
A funeral service was held on Nov. 20 at St. Boniface Church in Mequon for Helen E. Julian, 82, who died on Nov. 16, 1999. Pastor Jay Lambert and Pastor Jerry Petersen officiated at the ceremony with arrangements handled by Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington. Interment in Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin. Eernisse Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Julian was born May 2, 1917, in Clyde, N.Y., daughter of Julian C. and Anna J. (nee Bird) Gifford. She married Melvin Julian on Oct. 7, 1939 in New York. She was a private children’s nurse and a member of various women’s clubs, church groups and St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Mequon.
Survivors include: daughters Bonnie (Grigory) Tenengolts of Saratoga, Calif., Kathleen (William) Bahrke of Port Washington; grandchildren Melanie (Sheldon) Setzke, Michelle (Jason) Acevedo, Linda Bahrke; great-grandchildren Kaitlin and Jacob Setzke.
Further survived by other relatives and friends.
Memorials to St. Boniface Episcopal Church are appreciated.

Peter J. Cihlar, 79
Peter Joseph Cihlar, 79, of Jackson, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at St. Luke Medical Center, Milwaukee.
He was born June 29, 1920, in Door County, to the late Joseph and Mary Cihlar, and married Sylvia Sunstrom on June 20, 1945.
They settled in the town of Polk where Peter was self-employed as a tile and drainage contractor.
Peter was a member of the Jackson Area Businessmen Association.
In his retirement, his most favorite pastimes were playing cards with many of his friends and family, and following the Packers and Brewers.
Survivor include his wife; a daughter Pam (Warren) Wiedmeyer of Kenosha County; sisters, Emily Fisher of De Pere, Helen Schleiss of Door County, Agnes Hansen of Sturgeon Bay and Ceil Melchiori of Chicago; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles (Dorothy) and Clarence (Dolores), both of Sturgeon Bay; sisters-in-law, Carol Cihlar, Dorla Cihlar and Gertrude Cihlar; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Curt and Lois Sunstrom of Door County; three grandchildren, Jared, Carin and Jenna Wiedmeyer and his dog, Spunky; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a daughter, Christine in May of 1994; three brothers, Joseph, George and Paul; and three sisters, Frances, Mary and Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 4860 Arthur Road, West Bend.
Visitation at the church only will be Sunday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, Jackson is assisting the family.

Thomas R. Green
Thomas R. Green of the town of Trenton died on Thursday, Dec. 17, 1999 at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital, West Bend, at the age of 83 years.
He was born on April 21, 1916 in Oshkosh to the late Frank W. and Mary A. (nee Hein) Green.
After graduating from high school, he attended UW-Madison where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Dairy Science. Following his marriage to Mary Grace Wandrey in Madison on Aug. 20, 1940, they moved to Shawano, and a short time later settled in the Washington County area. He was employed in the dairy industry, including owner and operator of the former Decorah Dairy in West Bend. In the 1950s, they moved to Madison where he became the owner and operator of the Monroe Laudrette. During this time, he founded the Dane County Chapter of the Shamrock Club of Wisconsin, where he was named Irishman of the Year.
Tom had a life-long passion for traveling. He and his family have traveled to many parts of the United States and Canada, and he has been to Ireland many times. He also spent as much time as possible with his children and grandchildren. Two of his favorite hobbies included Irish history and geneology.
He was a member of the Fr. Caper Rehrl Council #1964 Knights of Columbus and the Serra Club.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Grace; 10 children: Bill (Betty) of Denver, Tom (Phyllis) of West Bend, Peter (Dawn) of Santa Clarita, Calif.;Sr. Mary Ellen of Chicago, Katherine (Jack) Chapuran of Eagan, Minn, Frank (Jana) of Eagle Rock, Calif., Margaret (Ken) Lividas of Los Angeles, Theresa (Dennis) of Brookfield, Marie (Dale) Ganser of Sauk City and Joan (Jay) Christgau of Boulder Junction; 31 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; four brothers: Gerald (Kay) of St. Augustine, Fla., Dave (Mary) and Dan, both of Oshkosh, and Ron (Eunice) of Sheboygan; one brother-in-law, Don Dodd of Milwaukee; one sister-in-law, Ellen Green of Madison; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Dodd, and one brother, Jim.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg.
Visitation will be at the church only on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Wisconsin Parkinson’s Disease Association or to the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters.
The Schmidt Funeral Home of West Bend is serving the family.
May the road rise up and meet you. May the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains fall soft upon your field, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Rosemary Arndt, 78
Rosemary Arndt, nee Kuester, of West Bend, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at the Samaritan Health Center, at the age of 78.
She was born on Aug. 2, 1921, in West Bend, to the late Edwin and Mary (nee Ermer) Kuester, and married Menroy Arndt on June 22, 1940, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, West Bend. He passed away on April 4, 1964.
She was employed as a nursing assistant at the Samaritan Health Center for 21 years, retiring in 1983.
She also enjoyed playing sheepshead and bingo.
Survivors include a son, Warren Sr. (Regina) of West Bend; four grandchildren, Warren (Mary) Arndt Jr. and Jeffrey (Patty) Arndt, both of West Bend, Sheilah (Russell) Krebs of Hartford and Jennifer (Bryan) Ziegler of West Bend; five great-grandchildren, Cory Arndt, Nathan Arndt, Melyssa Arndt, Kaylyn Krebs and Kyle Krebs; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Kuester of Milwaukee and Janet Kuester of West Bend; a special friend, Marlys Fiedler of Allenton, and many close friends at Meadowbrook Manor.
Preceding her in death were a son, Elroy Arndt, and two brothers, Roman Kuester and Hugo Kuester.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend.
Rev. Bryan O'Connor of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, West Bend, will officiate, and burial will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery, West Bend, at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.

Ervin R. Hundt
Ervin R. Hundt died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999 at Hartford Memorial Hospital at the age of 82 years. He was born August 23, 1917 in Neosho to Rudolph and Bertha (nee Lambrecht) Hundt. Ervin married Leona Pusch May 21, 1944 at Peach Lutheran Church in Hartford. Ervin farmed in the Neosho area all his life.
Ervin is preceded in death by his parents, a son and a brother.
He is survived by his wife Leona of Neosho, a son, Dennis (Sharon) Hundt of Hustisford, a daughter Joy (Keith) Mueller of Neosho and a special granddaughter, Sarah Mueller.
Visitation was Wednesday, Nov. 24 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Neosho, Rev. David Meister officiating.
Funeral services followed and interment took place at Hustisford Cemetery.
