Fr. Robert G. Braun
Fr. Robert G. Braun, 66, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999 in Darien.
He was born Nov. 11, 1932 to the late George and Elizabeth (nee Smith) Braun.
He attended Eden public school, Hillcrest (Empire) public school, St. Joseph's Junior High School in Fond du Lac and St. Lawrence Seminary in Mt. Calvary.
Preparation for the priesthood was completed at St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, and he was ordained in 1959 by Archbishop William Cousins at St. John Cathedral, Milwaukee.
Fr. Braun first served as an assistant at Our Lady of Sorrows, Milwaukee until 1967. From 1967 to 1974 he was assistant at St.Nicholas Parish, Milwaukee, and from 1974-77 he was assistant at St. Frances Cabrini in West Bend.
He returned to St. Nicholas as pastor in 1977, and was pastor at St. Kilian in Hartford from 1983 to 1988 when he became pastor at St. Mary's, Eden.
He retired in early 1999 after being diagnosed with cancer.
Fr. Braun served on the Priests' Senate and the Archdiocesan Budget Review Committee.
Survivors include a brother, Warren (Sharon) of Milwaukee; two sisters, Mary Ann (Jerald) Peyer of Darien and Jane (William) O'Rourke of Milwaukee; nieces and nephews, David, Timothy and Amy (Kallman) Braun; Gregory, Robert, Joseph, William, Ann, Elizabeth, Patrick, Susan (Showalter) and Jon Peyer; Cornelius, Katherine (Hirsch), Thomas and Christine O'Rourke; and 20 grand-nieces and nephews.
Visitation at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Eden, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 1 to 5 p.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 5 p.m. Bishop Richard Sklba will officiate, and burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Eden.
Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Grade School.
The Twohig Funeral Home, Fond du Lac, is handling arrangements.

Alma A. Schladweiler, 80
Alma A. Schladweiler (nee Puestow) of West Bend died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999 at her residence at the age of 80.
She was born Feb. 13, 1919 in West Bend to the late Carl and Ella (nee Proeber) Puestow and married Raymond J. Schladweiler on Sept. 7, 1946 at Holy Angels Church, West Bend.
Raymond preceded her in death on June 16, 1999.
Alma worked at the West Bend Company for many years and was a member of the 25-Year Club. She and Ray loved to travel to Army reunions and to their cottage up north.
Survivors include cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with Pastor George Mumm officiating. Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home fro 1 p.m. until the time of services.

Scott J. Lauters, 36
Scott J. Lauters, 36, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Kewaskum, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, in Las Vegas, from injuries received in an ATV accident.
He was born on Jan. 23, 1963, in Rice Lake, to Ronald and Crescentia "Chris" (nee Ruplinger) Lauters, and graduated in 1981 from Kewaskum High School.
He had resided in Las Vegas for the past 15 years where he was employed in construction.
Scott enjoyed hunting, skiing and riding all-terrain vehicles.
Survivors include his father, Ronald Lauters (special friend Nellie Dowdal) of Hixton; his mother Chris Lauters (special friend Art Naumann) of West Bend; two brothers, Randy (special friend Wendy Bebow) of Kewaskum and Jeff (Beth) of Hixton; two sisters, Karen Lauters (special friend Gary Collins) of St. Joseph's, Mo. and Christine (Robert) Nieskes of Boltonville; four nieces; four nephews; other relatives and friends.
Visitation at the Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, will be Thursday, Sept. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, at the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthias Catholic Church, town of Auburn. Fr. Mark Jones will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Howard E. Gerner, 64
Howard E. Gerner, of the town of Trenton, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend, at the age of 64.
He was born Nov. 23, 1934, in Newburg to the late Arthur and Ella (nee Fick) Gerner, and married Esther Ackerman on April 26, 1958, at St. Frances Cabrini Church, West Bend.
Howard was an electrician for 40 years, working the last 27 years for Steiner Electric Inc. He retired on Jan. 1, 1999.
Howard was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Newburg Sportsman's Club.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Peter (Jeri) of West Bend, Penny (Jeff) Maletzke of Sheboygan and Paulette (Paul) Mayou of Amherst Junction; five grandchildren, Clint Gerner, Mandy and Ben Hofmeister and Nicole and Erin Maletzke; two sisters, Bernice (Milton) Wilkins of Newburg and June Dembraski of Eagle River; a brother, Warren (Ceil) of Newburg; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Newburg. Pastor Jon Baumann will officiate, and burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
Visitation at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Thursday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 6:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund for St. John's new church.

Marlene Benz, 67
Marlene Benz, nee Rose, of Jackson, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend, at the age of 67.
She was born July 3, 1932, in Grafton, to Arnold and Florence (nee Kemp) Rose, and married Carl "Nubby" Benz. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include her mother, Florence Carter of Menomonee Falls; a son, Dennis (Linda) Fallon of Menomonee Falls; a daughter Cathy (Al) Stern of Fredonia; four grandchildren, Catrina (Tobin) Butt of Fredonia, Michael Fallon and Travis Fallon, both of Menomonee Falls and Allen Stern of Fredonia; a great-grandchild, Logan Fallon of Menomonee Falls; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton. Rev. R.E. McClelland will officiate, and burial will be in Immanuel Cemetery, Cedarburg.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 to 7:30 p.m.
Memorials to the family are appreciated.

Jay Peter Reis, 51
Jay Peter Reis, 51, of Newtown, Conn., died at his residence on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, following a brief illness.
Survivors include his wife, Julia (nee Offer);; three sisters, Jill (Thomas) Smith of Rockford, Ill., Melody Reis of West Bend and Heidi (Dennis) Kepchar of Libertyville, Ill.; a brother, Robin (Jayne) Reis of West Bend; his stepmother, Gladys (Rosenheimer) Reis of West Bend; two stepsisters, Jean (John) Schuman of West Bend and Suzanne (Kenneth) Priegel of Hilton Head, S.C.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Gloria (Weber) Reis.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 11, in Newtown Conn.
In memory of his mother, a memorial has been established in Jay's name at the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1 Sellack St., Norwalk, Conn. 06855.

Leigh V. Pollpeter, 44
Leigh V. Pollpeter, nee Staszak, 44, of Slinger, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 12, 1955, in Milwaukee to Leo and Louise (nee Vallari) Staszak, and raised in Germantown, graduating in 1973 from Germantown High School.
After her marriage to Todd S. Pollpeter on Aug. 24, 1974, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richfield, the couple lived in West Bend and later in the Slinger area.
She was an avid quilter for many years and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband; three children Steven (Jennifer) of Campbellsport, Andrew and Sarah Pollpeter, both of Slinger; a granddaughter, Gillian Rose Pollpeter of Campbellsport; her parents Leo Staszak and Louise Staszak, both of Necedah; her parents-in-law, Ron and Betty Pollpeter of Germantown; three brothers, Christopher (Jean Hansen) Staszak of Fort Collins, Colo., Lindsey Staszak of New Mexico and David (Patti) Staszak of St. Louis, Mo.; five sisters, Deidre (Dan) Wenzel of Ohio, Teresa (Zane) Ely of San Diego, Calif., Geri (Brian) David of Glenellen Ill., Maria (Brian) McCarthy of Minneapolis, Minn. and Jennifer (Patrick) Joyce of London, England; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Parish of Allenton and the West Bend Quilters Club.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, Nov. 29 at 11 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Parish, Allenton. Fr. Richard C. Breitbach will officiate, and interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Allenton.
Visitation at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m., and Monday at the church only from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.
Memorials to Breast Cancer Research are appreciated.

Andrew Boots, 37
Andrew Boots, 37, West Bend, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, due to injuries suffered in an auto accident.
He was the beloved husband of Marjean; loving father of Robert; dear son of Marjorie (Gary) Boe; brother of Cheri (Alan) Schmackle.
He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt and Bartelt A.A. Schmidt and Sons Funeral Home, Menomonee Falls.
