George E. Gadow
George E. Gadow, 71, of West Bend, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 22, 1928, in the former village of Barton, to the late William and Margaret (nee Hauesler) Gadow, and married Barbara Kieren on Sept. 10, 1955, at Holy Cross Church, Milwaukee.
After graduating from West Bend High School, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving on the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin.
Upon his discharge, George attended Marquette University where he received a bachelor's degree in business.
George was employed at The West Bend Co. from 1954 until retiring in 1990. From 1965 until 1968 he was the comptroller at The West Bend Co. plant in Barrie, Ontario.
He was a very active volunteer with the West Bend Patriots Drum and Bugle Corps for many years, and served on its board of directors.
George was a member of The West Bend Co. 25-year Club, a former member of the West Bend Jaycees, a former member and officer of the West Bend Lodge 1398 Loyal Order of Moose, and a former advisor in the Junior Achievement program.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Mary (Michael) Obermeier of Franklin, Linda (Steve) Sopkowicz, D.D.S. of West Bend, Ann (Bob) McCormick of Muskego and Jane (Scott) Murphy of Mukwonago; 12 grandchildren, Christopher, Kathryn and Jeanne Obermeier, Megan, Silas and Diana Sopkowicz, Billy, Benji and Brett McCormick and Sarah, Sean and Kelly Murphy; a sister, Beatrice (Maynard) Olson of Richfield, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Doris (Val) Lulljack of North Lake; a brother-in-law, Thomas Kieren of Wayne, N.J.; man's best friend, Wiggles; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were two brothers-in-law, John Kieren and Arthur Henrichs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church. Fr. Jeffrey Haines and Fr. Robert Albers will be co-presiders, and burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Saturday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. only.
Those who wish may give memorials to the Adrian Frankow Chapter 58 DAV (Disabled American Veterans), or to the charity of the donor's choice.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend is serving the family.

Barbara M. Schmidt, 54
Barbara M. Schmidt, nee Kaehne, 54, of Kewaskum, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.
She was born on May 18, 1945, in Campbellsport, to the late Eugene and Dorothy (nee Schultz) Kaehne, and married Jerald Mielkie on Sept. 12, 1970. She later married Joseph Schmidt on April 8, 1989.
Barbara worked at Regal Ware, Kewaskum, for 33 years where she was a member of its 25-Year Club, and was also a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Judy (Jeff) Kittell of Campbellsport; three grandchildren, Jamie, Amanda and Miranda; four stepchildren, James Schmidt and Jerry Schmidt, both of West Bend, Sharlene Schmidt of Oshkosh and Sherry (Eric) Petersen of West Bend; a step-grandchild, Ashley Petersen; two brothers, Ronald (Phyllis) and Joseph (Dixie), both of Campbellsport; two sisters, Mary Ann Wilke of Fond du Lac and Linda (Jerry) Beisbier of Campbellsport; special friends, Barbara Scheidenhelm, Joan and Pete Albers, and Phyllis Faber; many other close friends, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and neighbors.
Preceding her in death were a sister, Donna, and a brother, Kenneth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend. Rev. Jerome Repenshek and Rev. M. Eugene Kinney will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visitation at the Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport, will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials to Holy Angels Church, West Bend, or St. Matthew's Church, Campbellsport, are appreciated.

Stefanie ‘Steffi’ Marie Ehlers
Stefanie "Steffi" Marie (nee Nevy) Ehlers of Hartford died Nov. 14, 1999 in Hartford. She was 85 years old.
She was born on Nov. 4, 1914 in Milwaukee. She moved to Hartford in 1964 from Guadalajara, Mexico. In 1975, she was employed at Schwartz Brothers Food Store as a clerk where she worked for many years. She also worked at Grand Dad’s Bakery. Steffi was a member of the Hartford Country Club.
She is survived by her cousin JoAnn Cole of Lynchburg, Va.; dear friend Helen Mueller of West Bend; and many dear friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Josephine (nee Cerny) Nevy, and a cousin, Josephine Zern.
A graveside service is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 10700 W. Capitol Drive, Milwaukee.

Genevieve A. Bauer
Genevieve A. Bauer, 83 nee Schield, of West Bend, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital, Milwaukee, at the age of 83.
She was born March 16, 1916, in the town of Saukville, to the late John and Magdalena (nee Hesprich Schield.
After her marriage to Alfred "Butch" Bauer on Nov. 20, 1937, at Holy Trinity Church, Newburg, the couple settled on the Bauer Homestead farm in the town of West Bend, where they lived until coming to West Bend in May of 1997.
Genevieve was a member of the National Society of Catholic Foresters Court 574, the Christian Women's Confraternity at St. Frances Cabrini Church, West Bend Chapter 732 Women of the Moose and a charter member of EverReady Home Makers Club.
Survivors include her husband; four children, Allen (Helen) and LeRoy (Sue), both of West Bend, Ronald (Bonita) of Menomonee Falls and MariJean (Robert) Janzer of Richfield; four grandchildren, Christopher and Steven Bauer and Scott and Andy Janzer; two sisters, Florence Bauer of Brookfield and Angeline Ansay of Saukville; a brother, Aaron Schield of the town of Saukville; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a daughter, Jean Carol; and three sisters, Rosella Grinwald, Marie Schmidt and Agnes Schield.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church, West Bend. Fr. Jeffrey Haines will be the presider and burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery, West Bend.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 8 p.m., and Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

Roger A. Hurt, 44
Roger A. Hurt, 44, at peace Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999.
He was the beloved father of Neva, Bran and Harlan Hurt; loving grandfather of Zachary; dear son of Thomas and Rita; brother of Morrigan (Mark) Simpson and Linda (Robert) Tyllo. Also loved by other relatives and friends.
Visitation at the Krause Funeral Home, New Berlin, will be from 4 to 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, followed by funeral services at 7 p.m.

Travis Hauser, 23
Travis Hauser of Hartford passed away Dec. 25, 1999. He was 23 years old.
Child of God. Cherished son of Peter and Joan (nee Dautermann) Hauser. Brother and friend of Justin Hauser. Dearest grandson of Joe and Joyce Hauser and Russel and June Dautermann. Further survived by loved ones and many friends.
A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. at Shimon Funeral Home.
The family greeted friends and relatives at the funeral home Tuesday from 4 until the time of service.

Alice A. Arnold, 87
Alice A. Arnold, nee Connors, of Slinger, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Friedenheim, Slinger, at the age of 87.
She was born Feb. 9, 1912, in Rockford, Ill., to the late John and Alice (nee McGrogan) Connors, and married Karl Arnold.
He preceded her in death.
She worked as a registered nurse, and attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grafton.
Survivor include three sons, David (Barbara) of West Bend.
Thomas of Grafton and James of Mayville; two daughters, Kathy Miles of Greenville, S.C. and Mary (David) Meiers of Fond du Lac; six grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grafton.
Fr. Mike Barrett will officiate, and burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Grafton.
Visitation at the church only will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials of the donor's choice are appreciated.
The Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, is assisting the family.

Vernice Freitag, 84
She was born July 15, 1915, in Kekoskee, to the late Arnold and Ida (nee Dohrman) Enderle, and married Lorenzo A. Freitag on July 24, 1937, in Horicon.
Vernice Freitag, nee Enderle, 84, of Lomira, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born July 15, 1915, in Kekoskee, to the late Arnold and Ida (nee Dohrman) Enderle, and married Lorenze A. Freitag on July 24, 1937, in Horicon.
The couple farmed in the town of Williamstown, and she also was employed at the Mayville Canning Co. for many summers.
Vernice was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Lomira, and a former member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Horicon.
Her husband passed away in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Carlton (Carol) of Mayville; five daughters, Shirley (LaVern) Kreuser of Dundee, Mardell (Tom) Buckingham of Allenton, Audrey Drake of Eden, Lorraine (Charles) Phelps of Watertown and Carlene (Felix) Cardenas of Lomira; a sister, Gladys Breselow of Mayville; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchilden, nine step-great-grandchilden; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lomira.
Rev. Scott McMurray and Rev. Jane Haass will officiate, and entombment will be in Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Fond du Lac.
Visitation at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville, will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m., and also on Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lomira, from noon to 1 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, Lomira, or Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Horicon.
