Virgil J. Weber
Virgil J. Weber of Town of Erin passed away on Friday, Oct. 8, 1999 at the Hartford Care Center. He was 84 years old.
He was born April 30, 1915 in Neosho to Jacob and Emma (nee Zimdars) Weber. He married Evelyn Weber on Aug. 24, 1937 at St. Kilian’s in Hartford.
Virgil framed most of his working years. He worked at Chrysler for 10 years from 1970 until his retirement in 1980. He was very active in 4-H work from 1955 to1966.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; a son, Allen (finacee Patty Abel) of Erin; two grandchildren, Allen Jr. (Jennifer) Weber of Zion, Ill., and Neil Weber of Erin; one great grandchild, Alexander John Weber; a sister, Beatrice Neu of Neosho; three brothers-in-law, Dr. Alvin Weber (friend Hazel Stoeckeler) of St. Paul, Minn., Norwin Fehrman of Lowell, and Robert (Delores) Weber of Rubicon. Virgil is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mabel, Ethel, Ruth, and Bernice; an infant brother; and two brothers-in-law, Vernon Weber and Walter Weber.
Visitation was held at Shimon Funeral Home on Sunday, Oct. 10 from 3 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Thompson with Father Fred Alexander officiating. Interment was at St. Patrick’s Cemetery followed by Mass Monday morning.
Memorials to Vince Lombardi Cancer Research Fund.

Fred W. Wachholz, 65
A funeral service will be held today at 10 a.m. at Schramka-Densow Funeral Home in Thiensville for Fred W. Wachholz, 65, who died on Oct. 10, 1999. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Schramka-Densow Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
Mr. Wachholz was a member of the Southeastern Wisconsin Hosta Society, Cedarburg Garden Club and Selective Service Board of Wisconsin. He was the Scout Master of Troop #233 at Rawson Avenue School for 10 years. He worked at Allen-Bradley Co. for 30 years before retiring and founding HY-TECH Tool and Mfg.
Survivors include: wife Judith (nee Dorsch); sons Chris (Teresa), Kenneth, Clay and Steven; daughter Karen; grandson Kyle.
Further survived by other relatives and friends.
Memorials to the Boerner Botanical Gardens Building Fund are appreciated.

Emily C. Raschka
Emily C. Raschka (nee Hahn) of Hartford passed away on Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 at the Hartford Memorial Hospital. She was 93 years old.
She was born Aug. 9, 1906 in Huilsberg to Christopher and Emma (nee Uber) Hahn. She married Milton Raschka on Jan. 24, 1942 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Hartford.
She graduated from the Dodge County Normal College in 1927 and taught for 15 years in rural Washington County schools. Her fondest memoriees were her days teaching, her students and her special college friends, Mildred Tobias of Milwaukee, Olga Herberg of Mayville, Paula Koehler of Horicon and Milton Bliss of Hartford.
Emily had a gift for kindness and spontaneity. When the weather turned stormy in winter she would call WTKM and play a song or two on her organ for the listeners. On cold winter days she would hang a sign on the door for the mailman that read: Warm drink inside. In summer she would have something cold ready.
She was active with civic groups, the PTA, her church and as a volunteer teaching sewing to the mentally handicapped. During the past four years she enjoyed the companionship of other seniors and the staff at the Hartford Memorial Adult Day Services.
She is survived by her husband, Milton; and a daughter, Marilyn Raschka of Hartford; a brother, Ervin (Ann) Hahn of Hartford; three sisters, Irene Buntrock, Eleanor Alton, and Betty Kress all of Hartford; and her special college friends.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 4 p.m. to the time of service. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home in Hartford with Rev. Edward Freese officiating. Interment was at Plesant Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
Memorial can be sent to the Hartford Memorial Adult Day Services or St. John’s United Church of Christ.

Charles N. Peters
Charles N. Peters of the Town of Richfield passed away on Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 at the Harford Memorial Hospital. He was 79 years old.
He was born April 14, 1920 in Richfield to Anton and Barbara (nee Stupenski) Peters. He married Gladys Kern on Jan. 4, 1947 at St. Kilian’s Church.
He farmed most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; four daughters, Jean (Larry) Lanser of Richfield, Marie Peters of Milwaukee, Rose (Rick) Storck of Richfield, and Betty (Don) Beekman of Slinger; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Nicole, Melissa, and Angela Lanser, and Joshua, Ryan, Danielle, and Michelle Storck; a sister, Elizabeth Czoschke of Lomira; and a brother-in-law, Norbert Kirsch of Milwaukee. Charles is further survived by other brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank and Bill (Shirley) Peters; two sisters, Mary (Ollie) Cortte, and Frances Kirsch.
Visitation was held at St. Peter’s Church in Slinger on Tuesday, Oct. 12 from 4 p.m. until the time of service. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the church with Father James Strupp officiating. Interment was at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Slinger.

Steven J. Paynter
Steven J. Paynter of Snowmass, Colo. died suddenly in a hiking accident on Oct. 7, 1999. He was 30 years old.
He is survived by his parents, Gaarder (Gordy) and Cathy Paynter of Hubertus; his sister, Jill (Larry) Heacock of Freedom; his brother Jeff (Doris) Paynter of Menomonee Falls; his cherished friend, Nancy White of Snowmass, Colo.; nieces and nephews, Holly, Scott and Benjamin Heacock, and Nicole, Laryssa, and Tristan Paynter; and his grandparents, Dana Esch of Monroe and Ruth Paynter of Mineral Point. He is further survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Schmidt & Bartelt funeral home in Sussex. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, Oct. 16 at 9 a.m. at St. Columba Catholic Church on Highway 164 in Colgate. Burial will follow at St. Hubert’s Church Cemetery in Hubertus.
In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated to St. Hubert’s School in Steve’s name.

Catharine Hazelwood, 96
Catharine Ries Meyer Hazelwood of West Bend died Tuesday, Oct. 12 at St. Joseph’s Community hospital at the age of 96.
She was born Oct. 31, 1902 in Milwaukee to the late Alfred L. and Belle (nee Ogden) Ries.
When she was in high school, the family moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. where she married Alfred H. Meyer on April 28, 1926.
The family summered at Big Cedar Lake from 1936 until making their permanent home in 1965 when they moved to West Bend.
Her husband predeceased in 1978.
After her marriage to Preston Hazelwood in 1989 in West Bend, the couple moved to Setauket, N.Y. until his death in 1993 when she returned to West Bend.
Catharine was a member of the Cedar Lake Yacht Club and served as president of the women’s auxiliary the Joseph Marest Chapter of D.A.R., St. Joseph’s Community Hospital Auxiliary and St. James Episcopal Church.
Survivors include one son, Robert A. (Patricia) Meyer of West Bend; a step-daughter, Gail Hazelwood of Minneapolis, four grandchildren, Laurie (Thomas) Wagner, Robert O. (Sandra) Meyer, both of West Bend, James A. (Gayle) Meyer of Mequon and Ann (Kenneth) Carrano of Gurney, Ill; six great-grandchildren, Kelly and Kara Wagner, Ben and Adam Meyer, Christopher and Elizabeth Carrano; three step-great-grandchildren, Missy, Andrew and Eric Sawyer; one brother, Howard A. (Carol) Ries of Wilton, Conn.; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 12 noon at St. James Episcopal Church with Father R. Michael Darrow officiating.
Burial will follow at Forest Home Cemetery, Milwaukee.
Visitation at the church will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. James Episcopal Church, the Washington County Historical Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
The Schmidt Funeral Home is serving the family.

Viola C. Hackendahl, 83
A funeral service was held Wednesday at First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg for Viola C. Hackendahl, 83, who died on Oct. 10, 1999. Rev. Randolph Raasch and Rev. Wilmer Reichmann officiated at the ceremony.
Entombment was at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield. Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton assisted the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Hackendahl was born Dec. 10, 1915 in Milwaukee, daughter of Edmund and Ida (nee Salchow) Kraft.
She married Herbert A. Hackendahl on Nov. 30, 1939 in Milwaukee.
She was a member of First Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: daughter Nancy (Melvin) Czerwan of Germantown; son Kenneth (Susan) Hackendahl of Pewaukee; grandchildren Linda (Brian) Aalpoel of Neenah, Christine (Michael) Brauckhoff of Mequon and Matthew (Cathy) Czerwan of Appleton; great-grandchildren Alison, Amanda and Sara Aalpoel, all of Neenah.
She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert.

Marian M. Bandy, 71
Marian M. Bandy, nee Walters, 71, of West Bend, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at the Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mayville.
She was born May 2, 1928, in Athens, to the late Edgar and Ruth (nee Degner) Walters.
Following her graduation from eighth grade, the family moved to Menomonee Falls.
She married John Bandy on April 16, 1953, in New Bern, N.C., and after his discharge they settled in West Bend.
She was employed at Amity Leather Products Co. for seven years.
Marian was an excellent cook and baker, and also loved gardening and sewing.
She was also a volunteer at the Samaritan Health Center for many years, was a member of St. Joseph's Community Hospital Auxiliary and a member and treasurer of the Hessener Verein in Germantown.
Survivors include her husband; four children, Jonathan Paul (Silvia) of Steffisburg, Switzerland, Steven (Laurie) of Amherst Junction, Karen (David) Wery of Fargo, N.D. and Debra (Steven) Jacoby of Peer, Belgium; seven grandchildren, Christian, Frederick and Timothy Bandy, Laura, Steven and Alicia Jacoby and Rachel Bandy; three sisters, Jean (Melvin) Mathiak, Betty (Tom) Wenzel, both of Menomonee Falls and Carol (Don) Sedgwick of Campbellsport; three brothers, Charles (Pat) of Bozeman, Mont., Calvin (Joyce) of Slinger and Allan (Carol) of Hamilton, Mont.; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a daughter, Barbara Jean and a sister, Grace Schleif.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, West Bend, with Bishop Marc Willden officiating. Burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
Visitation at the church only will be Tuesday from noon until the time of services.
Memorials may be given to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the American Diabetes Association.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.
