Lucille Gehl
Lucille Gehl (nee Langenecker) of Hartford passed away on Sunday Oct. 17 at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls at the age of 80.
She was born on July 5, 1919 in Allenton to the late Mathias and Otillia (nee Martin) Langenecker.
She married Henry J. Gehl on May 29, 1940 at Sacred Heart Church in Allenton. He passed away on April 19, 1984.
Lucille was the loving mother of nine children, Eileen (David) Murray, Florence (Gerald) May, Ralph (Janet) Gehl of Hartford, Richard (Judi) Gehl, Marion of Milwaukee, Alan (Melanie) of Hartford, Ivan (Janean) Gehl, Gloria of Hartford, and Gary (Amy) of Hartford; 21 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren; two brothers, three sisters, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, and other nieces, nephews, relatives, and other friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son-in-law, three grandchildren, one brother and one sister.
Mass will be on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church.
Family will greet relatives and friends at Shimon Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. A prayer vigil will be on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
A special thank you to the staff at Community Memorial Hospital.

Debra Lynn Seif, 46
A funeral service was held on Tuesday at Mueller Funeral Home for Debra Lynn Seif, 46, who died on Nov. 12, 1999.
Rev. Wilmer Reichmann officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg.
Ms. Seif was born on June 22, 1953 in Milwaukee, daughter of Karl and Elaine (nee Sanborn) Loehrer.
She worked as a shipping clerk and attended First Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: parents Karl and Elaine Loehrer, Cedarburg; sisters Caren (Jeff) Smith, Hickory, N.C., Sheryl (Keith) Piechowski, Grafton, Cinde Loerher, Cedarburg; nephew Andrew Piechowski, Grafton, Ryan Smith, Hickory N.C.; niece Tori Smith, Hickory, N.C.
Further survived by other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

Thaddeus J. ‘T.J.’ Makowski, 35
Thaddeus John "T.J." Makowski, 35, of Jackson passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 1999.
He was a devoted and loving husband of 12 years to Jodie J. (nee Fuhrman). He was married on April 25, 1987 at St. Veronica Catholic Church of Milwaukee. He was the proud and loving father of Nicholas and Mitchell.
He was the first-born son of Sylvester (Barbara, nee Betker) Makowski on Aug. 6, 1954, at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base Hospital in Gwinn, Mich; dear son-in-law of Jerome (Judie) Fuhrman, beloved brother of Stephen (Kathy), John (LIsa) and Jackie (David) Kukowski, blessed Godfather of Andrew Kukowski and uncle of Spencer Makowski. He is further survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends, especially Dr. Steven Templin, Cindy Jaszkowski and his dog "Shasta."
T.J. was the best friend and husband that a wife could want and he was "Such a Good Daddy" and "Good Cooker" to his sons. He was so very proud of them.
Regardless of his many illnesses, he gave of himself above and beyond for his family. He was an avid coin collector and trader, aircraft enthusiast, lover of fishing and football and and all around "Knows Everything" kind of guy.
He attended Bay View High School, graduate of the class of 1982, later attending Ripon College, receiving his bachelor of arts degree in economics in 1986.
After marriage, the couple lived in Milwaukee and later in Jackson. He was employed as a service manager for Monroe Truck Equipment for several years.
In T.J.’s final letter, he wrote, "Please thank everyone that has touched my life and let them know how much I appreciated and loved them."
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 29, at 10:30 a.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church of West Bend with Father Michael Peterson officiating. Burial was in Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend.
The visitation was Sunday at the funeral home from 4-9 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m., and continued Monday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

Robert L. Whaley, 75
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 4, 1999 at Schramka-Densow Funeral Home, Thiensville, for Robert L. Whaley, 75, who died Nov. 23, 1999. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Schramka-Densow Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Whaley was a veteran of WWII U.S. Army Air Corps and a former member of the Alonzo Cudworth VFW Post and a retiree of Square D. Corp.
Survivors include: wife Isabelle Whaley; daughters Sally (Mike) Kehl, Cindy (Curtis) Crawford and Barbara Whaley; son David Whaley; grandchildren Allison, Andy, Jenny, Brian, Troy, Justin, Alida and Ciarra; brother George (Pat) Whaley; sister Elizabeth Sciuti.
Further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Susan, brother Harrison and brother-in-law Dennis Sciuti.

Fr. John Furtmann
Fr. John Furtmann was born into eternal life Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999 at age 69 years.
Fr. Furtmann was born in Milwaukee on Sept. 5, 1931 to the late Anthony and Loretta (nee Seemann) Furtmann. He was ordained to the priesthood on may 25, 1957 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Milwaukee, by the Most Rev. Albert G. Meyer.
On June 21, 1957, Fr. Furtmann began his priestly ministry as an assistant at St. Aloysius Parish in West Allis. He was assigned to St. Peter Parish in Beaver in 1984 and St. Clement Parish in Sheboygan in 1966.
Father Furtmann began full-time work with the Catholic Family Movement in 1957. On April 1, 1975, he was appointed director of the Catholic Family Life Program for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, a position he held for five years. While serving the Catholic Family Life Program, Father Furtmann was the first in residence at St. Mary’s Parish in Menomonee Falls and then at St. Matthias Parish, Milwaukee.
In 1980, he was named pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in West Bend. Fr. Furtmann served as pastor at St. Hubert Parish in Hubertus from May 31, 1991 until his retirement on June 30, 1997. Fr. Furtmann was also very active in the John XXIII Community and was director of the Milwaukee Marriage Encounter Movement for many years.
A concelebrated mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999 at St. Boniface Parish, Germantown with Bishop Richard Sklba presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Francis Seminary of the charity of one’s choice is appreciated.

Gerald A. ‘Jerry’ Averill Sr.
Gerald A. "Jerry" Averill Sr. of Fredonia passed away on Friday, Oct. 15 at his residence.
He was 58 years old.
He was born on Oct. 2, 1941 in West Bend.
Born and raised in Barton, Wis., Averill graduated from West Bend High School in 1959.
After serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, he was married to Mary Ann Eischen on April 4, 1964 and the couple moved to Fredonia.
After her untimely death in 1987, he married Valerie Hundt on Oct. 9, 1993.
He as employed at the Gehl Co. as a laborer for over 33 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann, and his mother, Cecilia.
Survivors include his wife; father, Vincent; four children, Gerald Jr. (Gwen), Annette (Neal), James, and John; three step children; six grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers; and other nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999 at the Phillip Funeral Home in West Bend.
Interment was held on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the St. Rose Cemetery.

Mildred A. Wellhoefer, 78
Mildred A. Wellhoefer, nee Pieper, of Hustisford, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at her residence, at the age of 78.
She was born March 19, 1921, in Hustisford, to the late Paul and Helena (nee Groth) Pieper, and married Elton Wellhoefer on May 11, 1946, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Hustisford.
Mildred was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She loved crafts, sewing and playing cards with her friends.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sandy (Allen) Pieper of Hustisford; a son, Wayne (Shirley) of Neosho; five grandchildren, Kevin, Tammy and Kurt Wellhoefer, and Heath and Tony Pieper; a great-grandchild, Allisa; three brothers, Melvin (Margaret) of Watertown, Herbert and Elmer, both of Hustisford; a sister, Marcella Derge of Lomira; a brother-in-law, Hilbert Hodgson of Beaver Dam; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a sister, Cora Hodgson, and a brother, Hilbert.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Hustisford. Rev. Timothy Bauer will officiate, and interment will be in Hustisford Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Saturday form 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Memorials to the church or the charity of the donor's choice are appreciated.
The Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, is serving the family.

Sherry Lynn Swain, 33
Sherry Lynn Swain, 33, nee O'Connor, of rural Elkhorn, formerly of Milwaukee died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, as a result of injuries suffered in a traffic accident on Highway 50, east of Lake Geneva.
She was born Aug. 25, 1966, in Milwaukee to Dianne and Mike O'Connor.
She had been employed by Mann Brothers in Elkhorn.
Sherry was the mother of Sara L. and Eddie L.; special friend of David Amon and Amanda and Troy; daughter of Dianne and Mike O'Connor; special daughter of Richard and Barb Sonsthagen; sister of Lisa and Jeff Remy and Kelly Swain; aunt of Meghan Reilly Remy; granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Cibik, and niece of Jan Corbeilla.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, at the Betts Funeral Home, Elkhorn.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 3 to 7 p.m.

Cornelius ‘Corny’ Brodzeller, 75
Cornelius M. "Corny" Brodzeller, 75, of Pine River, formerly of West Bend, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Appleton Medical Center, Appleton.
He was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Theresa, to the late Joseph and Regina (nee Feucht) Brodzeller, and married Margaret Kedinger on July 22, 1950, at Holy Angels Church, West Bend.
Corny worked at various farms until 1954 when he became employed at Freeman Chemical Co., Saukville, and for the last 24 of those years he was a production foreman. After his retirement, the couple settled in Pine River.
Survivors include his wife; a brother, Andrew of West Bend; two sisters, Helen (Wyman) Gessner of Kewaskum and Juliette Schrauth of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Helen Brodzeller; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Stanley, Victor and Sylvester; a sister, Ann Dricken; a sister-in-law, Dolores Brodzeller; and two brothers-in-law, Ervin Schrauth and William Dricken.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 .am. on Saturday, Nov. 13, at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend. Father Patrick Wendt will be the presider, and burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery (old).
Visitation at the church only will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.
