Clara Hiekkanen, 83
Clara Hiekkanen, 83, of Kewaskum passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999 at her home.
She was born Jan. 16, 1916 in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Ludwig and Rose (Roehnbeck) Eder and on June 19, 1948 she was united in marriage to Arthur Hiekkanen. Her husband preceded her in death on May 4, 1996.
Hiekkanen was employed as a school secretary for the Milwaukee Public School System for 30 years, retiring on June 9, 1973. She was a member of the Milwaukee School Systems Secretary Association. The Hiekkanen was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
She is survived by many friends. A sister, Rose Eder, preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum with Father Mark Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at the church only Friday.
The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum is assisting with the services.

Cornelius ‘Corny’ Brodzeller, 75
Cornelius M. "Corny" Brodzeller, 75, of Pine River, formerly of West Bend, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Appleton Medical Center, Appleton.
He was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Theresa, to the late Joseph and Regina (nee Feucht) Brodzeller, and married Margaret Kedinger on July 22, 1950, at Holy Angels Church, West Bend.
Corny worked at various farms until 1954 when he became employed at Freeman Chemical Co., Saukville, and for the last 24 of those years he was a production foreman. After his retirement, the couple settled in Pine River.
Survivors include his wife; a brother, Andrew of West Bend; two sisters, Helen (Wyman) Gessner of Kewaskum and Juliette Schrauth of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Helen Brodzeller; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Stanley, Victor and Sylvester; a sister, Ann Dricken; a sister-in-law, Dolores Brodzeller; and two brothers-in-law, Ervin Schrauth and William Dricken.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 .am. on Saturday, Nov. 13, at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend. Father Patrick Wendt will be the presider, and burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery (old).
Visitation at the church only will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.

Ralph A. Robel, 76
Funeral services will be held this morning at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, West Bend, for Ralph A. Robel, 76, who died at his home on Dec. 20, 1999.
Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., with the Pastor Daniel Kelm to officiate at the 11 a.m. funeral. Burial will follow at Washington County Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend.
Mr. Robel was born on March 13, 1923, son of Jacob and Adeline (nee Mintzloff) Robel. After graduating from high school, he served in the Pacific Theater with the United States Army during World War II.
Following his discharge, he worked as an engineer with Northwestern Railroad. He married Erna A. (nee Kuphal) Birkholz on Sept. 23, 1972 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Described as a "caring and devoted husband, " Mr. Robel said the best years of his life were spent with his wife. She preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1998.
Survivors include brothers Elroy and Jacob (Beatrice) Robel, both of Cedarburg; nephew Thomas R. (Chris) Robel of Cedarburg; special friends Henry and Barb Otten; other relatives and friends.
Memorials to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, West Bend, would be appreciated.

Shandra Covill, 33
A funeral service was held on Tuesday at Advent Lutheran Church in Cedarburg for Shandra Covill, 33, who died on Dec. 4, 1999. Rev. Janis Kinens officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg.
Ms. Covill was born June 14, 1966 in Ann Arbor, Mich., daughter of John and Suzanne Covill. She worked as a systems analyst and was a member of Advent Lutheran Church. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross.
Survivors include: mother Suzanne Covill of Cedarburg; sister Crista (Andy) Wajack of Grafton; grandmother Jane Musch of Wauwatosa; other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Diabetes Association are appreciated.
She was preceded in death by her father John Covill.

Charles G. Tuttle
Charles G. Tuttle, 41, of Campbellsport, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at St. Joseph's hospital West Bend.
He was born May 11, 1958, in West Bend, to Gary and Lorena (nee Vorpahl) Tuttle.
He was a member of St. Lucas Ev. Lutheran Church, Kewaskum, and was active in various pool and dart leagues in the area.
Survivors include his parents of Campbellsport; his aunts and uncles, Francis and Pearl Tuttle of Campbellsport, Marcella and Arnold Knoelke of Cascade, Mae Engelmann and Catherine Mielke, both of Campbellsport and Edward and Bernice Tuttle of Kewaskum; cousins; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his uncles, Elwyn Tuttle, Willard Vorpahl, Adolph Engelmann and Ervin Mielke, and an aunt, Opal Tuttle.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m., at St. Lucas Ev. Lutheran Church, Kewaskum. Rev. Timothy Henning will officiate, and burial will follow in Lutheran Memorial Cemetery, Kewaskum.
Visitation at the Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport, will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday at the church from noon until the time of services.

Colleen N. Sias, 46
Colleen N. Sias (Avery) of Hartford, passed away on Monday, Dec. 27 at the Hartford Memorial Hospital. She was 46 years old.
She was born Nov. 25, 1953 in Adams Friendship to Gordon and Arvilla (Brown) Avery. She married Robert Sias on Nov. 6, 1976 in Baraboo.
Colleen was employed as a clerk for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for a time. She enjoyed music and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of Hartford; three sons, Gordon Avery, Robert Sias, and Sean Sias, all of Hartford; one daughter, Heather Sias of Hartford; her parents, Gordon and Arvilla of Lake Delton; sister, Maureen (Christopher) Bosshard of Lake Delton; and brother, Miles (Judy) Avery of Baraboo. Colleen is further survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents-in-law; uncle, Earl Avery; and grandparents.
Memorial Services were on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. at Shimon Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Fletcher officiating. Visitation was at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to the time of service.

Deward R. ‘Dewey’ Miller, 79
Deward R. "Dewey" Miller, 79, of West Bend, formerly of the town of Farmington, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at his residence.
He was born April 5, 1920, in Sheboygan, to the late Franklin and Esther (nee Bartelt) Miller, and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1938.
After his marriage to Jeanette J. Hammen on Aug. 30, 1941, at Beechwood Church, Sheboygan County, the couple lived in the town of Farmington for over 51 years.
He was employed in the maintenance department at The West Bend Co. for over 40 years, retiring in 1982.
The couple moved to West Bend in September, 1998.
Survivors include his wife; three children Duanne (Ronny) Risse of Indonesia, Gerald (Nancy) of Baltimore, Md. and John (Therese) of Fredonia; five grandchildren Jeremy, Mary and Daniel Miller of Baltimore, Melissa (Douglas) Peters of Grafton and Ramona Risse of Indonesia; a sister, Joyce Krieman of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Orville (Deanie) of Austin, Texas and Elroy (Marilyn) of Sheboygan Falls; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Alan and a brother-in-law, Lester Krieman.
Dewey was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Bend, the 40-year Club at The West Bend Co., AFL-CIO of The West Bend Co. and was a very active union member.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m., at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend. Rev. Bruce Dunford will officiate, and interment will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Boltonville Union Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials are appreciated.

Rudolph F. Zarling, 98
Rudolph F. Zarling, 98, of Jackson, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at Cedar Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center, Cedarburg.
He was born Oct. 18, 1901, in Jackson, to the late John and Ulricka (nee Rusch) Zarling, and married Elsie Mueller on Sept. 5, 1925, at David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church, Jackson.
He was employed as a supervisor for Mercury Marine for approximately 23 years.
Rudy was a life-long active member of David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church, singing in the mixed and male choirs for over 70 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ivan (Donna) of Spokane, Wash. and Rudy H. Jr. (Carol) of Cedarburg; five grandchildren, Jill (Brian) Kenkman of Bothell, Wash., Susan (Tracey) Poffenroth of Grapevine, Texas, Denise M. Zarling of Milwaukee, Meredith Zarling of Seattle, Wash. and Nola K. (Brian) Zemlicka of Grafton; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1:30 p.m. at David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church, Jackson. Rev. James Schulz will officiate, and burial will be in David’s Star Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church.
The Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, is assisting the family.
