Beverly Skalstad
Beverly Skalstad (nee Redlin) of Rubicon died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999 at home. She was 72 years old.
She was born April 4, 1927 in Rubicon to Edgar and Verona (nee Lepien) Redlin, and married Erwin Skalstad on Aug. 24, 1946 at Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford.
She worked as an assembler for West Bend Co. Beverly was a member of the Missions Society at Peace Lutheran Church, Hartford Senior Friends and the TOPS Club. She enjoyed ceramic work, quilting and crafts.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Erwin; four sons, Leroy of Milwaukee, Dennis of Hartford, Donald of Oshkosh and Steve (Susie and daughters Jenny and Carli) of Hartford; daughter, daughter Darlene (Keith) Vredeveld of Hartford; five grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Zwieg, Krista (Tom) Frey, Laura (Dan) Ertmann, David and Jonathan Skalstad; three great grandchildren, Erika, Kaylie and Quinten. Beverly is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Jon Tesch officiating. The family greeted relatives and friends at the Shimon Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment was a Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society for leukemia research or Peace Lutheran Church.
The family is served by Shimon Funeral Home.

Loretta Peters, 62
A funeral service was held Monday at Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg for Loretta Peters, 62, who died on Nov. 10, 1999. Rev. Jerome Petersen officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg. Burial will be at Old Settlers Rest Cemetery in Mequon.
Ms. Peters was born July 29, 1937 in Mequon, daughter of Teno and Lillian (nee Benz) Peters and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: brothers David (Rozann) Peters, Cedarburg and Gerald (Carey) Peters, Cedarburg.
Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Louis J. Lauters, 87
Louis J. Lauters, 87, of Beechwood, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Beechwood Rest Home, Beechwood.
He was born July 1, 1912, in the town of Port Washington, to the late Henry and Mary (nee Hagel) Lauters, and on May 27, 1933, married Margaret Leider at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Saukville. She passed away on Sept. 22, 1995.
Mr. Lauters was a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church, town of Auburn, Beechwood Senior Citizens and the Kewaskum XYZ Club.
His special hobbies included playing sheepshead, bowling and farming.
Survivors include three sons, James (Joann) of Campbellsport, Ronald (special friend, Nellie Dowdal) of Hixton and Daniel (Helen) of Kewaskum; two daughters, Irene (Leroy) Gnacinski of Beechwood and Gladys (Clayton) Weinreich of Fillmore; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were four brothers, John, Carl, Nickolas and Henry; five sisters, Mary Dundore, Margaret Kugel, Anastasia Elwert, Theresa Schimberg and Viola Schroeder; an infant son; and three grandchildren, Scott, Jim and Karla.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, at the Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Matthias Catholic church, town of Auburn. Father Mark Jones will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4 p.m. until a prayer vigil at 8 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Beechwood Rest Home or Holy Trinity Catholic School.

Charles R. McClain Jr., 76
Charles Ray McClain Jr., 76, formerly of Kewaskum, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Bamberg Hospital, Bamberg, S.C.
He was born Feb. 22, 1923, in University City, Mo., to the late Charles R. Sr. and Sophia G. (nee Slisz) McClain, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a clerk typist.
On Oct. 16, 1951, he married Helen Faye Wright in Bentonville, Ark. They lived in Kansas City, Mo., where he worked as branch manager of the Gehl Farm Machinery Branch Office. In 1961, the couple moved to Kewaskum where he was the parts manager of the Gehl Co. Corporate Headquarters in West Bend.
After 38 years at Gehl Co., he retired and they moved to Orangeburg S.C.
Charles enjoyed golf, tennis and bowling, and was a member of Hon-E-Kor Country Club for many years.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael (Gladys) of Fort Mill, S.C.; two daughters, Patricia McClain of West Bend and Margie (Gary) Ciriacks of Campbellsport; two grandchildren, Michael D. McClain and Emily Ciriacks; his brother, Melvin of Orangeburg, S.C. and other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were an infant brother, Clifford, and a son, Charles W.
Visitation services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport. Burial will be Thursday in Union Cemetery, Campbellsport.

Chester G. Sterr, 70
Chester G. Sterr of Crivitz, formerly of West Bend, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Bay Area Medical Center, Marinette, at the age of 70.
He was born Aug. 12, 1929, in Hartford, to the late Walter J. and Theckla E. (nee Schwabenlander) Sterr, and married Mary E. Rindt on June 25, 1955, at Holy Angels Church. She passed away April 20, 1984.
At an early age, the family moved to West Bend where he lived until moving to Crivitz in 1989.
Chester served in the United States Air Force, serving in Okinawa. Following his discharge, he became employed at the Gehl Co., where he remained for 33 years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, traveling, playing cards, especially sheepshead, snowmobiling, and life in northern Wisconsin.
Chester was a member of the Fred A. Schaefer Post 1393 VFW, where he served as post commander, and also the Hexelbank Club at the Gehl Co.
Survivors include three children, Janine (Terry) Buss of Campbellsport, Mark (Marianne) of Appleton and Steve (Jane) of West Bend; seven grandchildren, Laurie, David and Danny Buss, Jimmy, Jeff, Christopher and Tyler Sterr; a brother, Donald of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Church, West Bend. Fr. Jerome Repenshek will be the presider, and burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Visitation at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 3:30 p.m.
There will be no visitation Monday morning, so please meet at the church for Mass.

S.Sgt. Leonard K. Kritz, 69
S.Sgt. Leonard K. Kritz, 69, died at Franklin, Mass. on Monday, Dec. 13, 1999.
He was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Oshkosh, to the late Louis M. Kritz and Jeannette (Baier) Kritz Kurriger.
He lived in Barton from 1940-’48, when he joined the U.S. Marines and served 20 years, five months and 22 days.
He fought in the Korean Conflict on two tours, and was wounded and cited for bravery beyond the call of duty.
He also served in Vietnam on three tours, during which he lost a leg. He was highly decorated, which includes five Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star.
He was also a drill instructor while stationed at Paris Island, S.C. during his career in the Marines.
Upon retiring and residing in Bellingham, Mass., he served as a scout leader for 12 years, earning the Silver Beaver Award and was a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Leonard was a member of the VFW and was grand marshall in the 1989 Memorial Day Parade in Bellingham, Mass.
Fishing and hunting were more than a hobby to him.
Preceding him in death were his father in 1948, his mother in 1997, his son, Leonard Kenneth II in August, 1998, his wife, Roberta (Franklin) in May 1999, two brothers, Eugene who was fatally wounded in Vietnam in 1967 and Martin, of West Bend who died in January, 1999.
Survivors include a loving daughter-in-law, Laurie (nee Lloyd) Kritz of Franklin, Mass; two grandchildren Dakota 5, and Cheyenne 2; a brother, Louis (Dorene) of Mukwonago; two sisters, Vivian (Isaac) Cain of Salton City, Calif. and Mary (James) McKee of Kewaskum; many nieces, nephews, relatives and many, many friends.
The O’Teri Funeral Home of Franklin Mass assisted the family with arrangements.
Memorials to the VFW, cancer hospices or the charity of the donor’s choice are appreciated.

Rose Weber (nee Lewandowski), 89
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Cedarburg, for Rose Weber (nee Lewandowski), 89, who died Nov. 9, 1999 after being hit by a car on Washington Avenue in Cedarburg.
Interment is at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by Schramka-Gunther Funeral Home, Cedarburg.
Mrs. Weber was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Weber.
She is survived by daughters Virginia (Raymond) Casper and Susan (Gene) Lewandowski; sons Richard (Joyce), James (Patricia), William (Susan) and John (Beverly); 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sister Sophie Mikorski; other relatives and friends.

Richard J. Smith, 57
Richard J. Smith, 57, of Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999.
He was born July 29, 1942, in Sheboygan, to John and Jeanette (Weber) Smith, attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1960. He then attended Lakeland College.
On June 8, 1963, he married Patricia A. Marotz at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Plymouth. The couple resided in Sheboygan and Budd Lake, N.J. for 26 years before moving back to Plymouth in 1995.
Richard was district sales manager on the east coast for Manitowoc Equipment Works, retiring in 1994 after 27 years of service.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic church, the National Wildlife Federation, played softball for many years and enjoyed reading, hiking and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Karen T. Smith of East Norwalk, Conn. and Cheryl C. Smith (husband Emilio Velilla) of Belmont, Mass.; his parents, John and Jeanette Smith of Plymouth; aunts; uncles; cousins; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was an infant brother, Joseph.
A funeral Mass will be held on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Plymouth. Fr. Dennis Van Beek, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, West Bend.
Visitation at the church only will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.
A memorial fund is being established in his name.
The Suchon Funeral Home, Plymouth, is serving the family.
