Chester G. Sterr, 70
Chester G. Sterr of Crivitz, formerly of West Bend, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Bay Area Medical Center, Marinette, at the age of 70.
He was born Aug. 12, 1929, in Hartford, to the late Walter J. and Theckla E. (nee Schwabenlander) Sterr, and married Mary E. Rindt on June 25, 1955, at Holy Angels Church.
She passed away April 20, 1984.
At an early age, the family moved to West Bend where he lived until moving to Crivitz in 1989.
Chester served in the United States Air Force, serving in Okinawa. Following his discharge, he became employed at the Gehl Co., where he remained for 33 years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, traveling, playing cards, especially sheepshead, snowmobiling, and life in northern Wisconsin.
Chester was a member of the Fred A. Schaefer Post 1393 VFW, where he served as post commander, and also the Hexelbank Club at the Gehl Co.
Survivors include three children, Janine (Terry) Buss of Campbellsport, Mark (Marianne) of Appleton and Steve (Jane) of West Bend; seven grandchildren, Laurie, David and Danny Buss, Jimmy, Jeff, Christopher and Tyler Sterr; a brother, Donald of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Church, West Bend.
Fr. Jerome Repenshek will be the presider, and burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Visitation at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 3:30 p.m.
There will be no visitation Monday morning, so please meet at the church for Mass.
Richard J. Smith, 57
Richard J. Smith, 57, of Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999.
He was born July 29, 1942, in Sheboygan, to John and Jeanette (Weber) Smith, attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1960.
He then attended Lakeland College.
On June 8, 1963, he married Patricia A. Marotz at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Plymouth.
The couple resided in Sheboygan and Budd Lake, N.J. for 26 years before moving back to Plymouth in 1995.
Richard was district sales manager on the east coast for Manitowoc Equipment Works, retiring in 1994 after 27 years of service.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic church, the National Wildlife Federation, played softball for many years and enjoyed reading, hiking and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Karen T. Smith of East Norwalk, Conn. and Cheryl C. Smith (husband Emilio Velilla) of Belmont, Mass.; his parents, John and Jeanette Smith of Plymouth; aunts; uncles; cousins; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was an infant brother, Joseph.
A funeral Mass will be held on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Plymouth.
Fr. Dennis Van Beek, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, West Bend.
Visitation at the church only will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.
A memorial fund is being established in his name.
The Suchon Funeral Home, Plymouth, is serving the family.
Beverly Skalstad, 72
Beverly Skalstad, nee Redlin, of Rubicon, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at her residence, at the age of 72.
She was born April 4, 1927, in Rubicon, to the late Edgar and Verona (nee Lepien) Redlin, and married Erwin Skalstad on Aug. 24, 1946, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hartford.
She worked as an assembler for The West Bend Co.
Beverly was a member of the Missions Society at Peace Lutheran Church and the TOPS Club, and enjoyed ceramic work, quilting and crafts.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Leroy of Milwaukee, Dennis of Hartford, Donald of Oshkosh and Steve (Susie and daughters, Jenny and Carli) of Hartford; a daughter, Darlene (Keith) Vredeveld of Hartford; five grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Zwieg, Krista (Tom) Frey, Laura (Dan) Ermann, David and Jonathan Skalstad; three great-grandchildren, Erika, Kaylie and Quinten; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Hartford.
Rev. Jon Tesch will officiate, and interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society for leukemia research or Peace Lutheran Church, are appreciated.
William G. Pinnow, 58
A funeral service was held Sunday evening at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cedarburg, for Cedarburg resident William G. Pinnow, 58, who died Nov. 4, 1999 at St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee.
Services were led by Rev. Randolph Raasch, with burial at Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg.
Arrangements were handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg.
Mr. Pinnow as born in Des Plaines, Ill. on Dec. 19, 1940, son the late Arthur and Elsie (nee Meier) Pinnow.
He married Ruth E. Gruetzmacher on June 25, 1966 in Kirkwood, Mo.
Mr. Pinnow was a district business manager for the Missouri Synod of the Lutheran Church. He belonged to First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg.
He is survived by his wife Ruth E. Pinnow of Cedarburg; son David (Lynda) Pinnow of Cascade; daughters Joanna (Geoffrey) Falk of Galesburg, Ill., Krista (Kurt) Spaletto of Palatine, Ill. and Miriam Pinnow of Cedarburg; brothers Arthur Jr. (Esther) Pinnow of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Robert (Nancy) Pinnow of Roscoe, Ill.; grandchildren Gabryella Pinnow of Cascade and Samuel Spaletto of Palatine, Ill.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by brother Richard, and parents Arthur and Elsie Pinnow.
Arthur F. Erdmann, 76
A funeral service was held on Saturday at First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg for Arthur F. Erdmann, 76, who died on Nov. 3, 1999.
Burial was at Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg. Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Erdmann was born on Jan. 12, 1923 in Cedarburg, son of Arthur and Elsie (Barelmann) Erdmann.
He married Audrey Jaeger on May 8, 1943 in Texas.
He served in the Army from Feb. 3, 1943 to Dec. 23, 1944 and was a 55 year member of the American Legion Post #288.
He was an honorary member of the Cedarburg Fire Department for 44 years.
He worked as a mason.
Survivors include: wife Audrey Erdmann of Cedarburg; son James Erdmann of Tomahawk; daughters Holly (Warren) Prochnow of Grafton and Kelly Krueger of Tomahawk; sisters Caroline Keller and Beatrice (Jake) Robel, both of Cedarburg; grandchildren Timothy, Brad, Bengie, Mindy, Jennifer, Kari and Sara; great-grandson Steven.
He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son Gary.

Gerald E. Buchmann, 61
Gerald E. Buchmann, 61, of Jackson, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.
He was born Jan. 21, 1938, in Milwaukee, to Walter and Gladys (nee Heckstein) Buchmann, and married Beverly N. Gussick on Aug. 2, 1958, in Milwaukee.
They lived in Milwaukee until moving to Jackson in 1972.
Gerald was employed for the American Can Company, and was a meat cutter for Hansen's Piggly Wiggly and also Eden Meats.
At the time of his death, he was an admissions representative for Herzig College in Madison.
Many of his vacations were spent at the couple's cabin in northern Wisconsin where he enjoyed fishing.
Gerald was a former member of the Jackson Lions Club, and was a Big Brother with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Washington County.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda (Paul) Heimstead of Balsam Lake; two grandchildren, Kasey and Nathan Heimstead; his mother, Gladys of Glendale; a sister, Nancy (John) Dunlap of Dell Rapids, S.D.; his mother-in-law, Nolia Gussick of Jackson; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a son, Bradley on Jan. 16, 1996;his father, Walter; and his father-in-law, Stanley Gussick.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, Jackson, with Rev. Paul Mittermaier officiating.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 6:45 p.m.
