Shawn Patrick Van Lanen
Shawn Patrick Van Lanen, 26, a Green Bay resident, passed away unexpectedly on May 5, 2002, at a local hospital. He was born in Green Bay on Nov. 8, 1975, to Lyle and Patricia Fonferek Van Lanen. Shawn graduated from De Pere High School in 1994. He enjoyed working with John, Patsy, Bobby, Sandy, Jenny, and Matt at the Redwood Inn for many years. Shawn loved the outdoors, especially deer hunting with his uncles Joe and Mike, and during the winter months snowmobiling with his brothers, Matthew, Jeremy and Chad. He enjoyed working in his rose gardens and caring for his much loved animals, especially his dog, Kilo. Holidays were very special to him; especially Christmas, Halloween, and the Fourth of July. His 6-year-old daughter, Briana, was the shining star in his life, and the time spent together doing their special projects meant the world to him. His nieces Cassie and Donna will miss all the special moments they shared together. Survivors include his father and mother, Lyle and Patricia Van Lanen; two sisters, Melissa and Scott Glinski, Green Bay, and their children, Cassandra, Macayla, Donna and Renee; Christina Van Lanen and Andrew DeKeuster; three brothers, Matthew Van Lanen and Kari Anderson, Jeremy Van Lanen, and Chad Van Lanen, all at home. His very loved daughter, Briana, at home; Paternal grandparents, Harvey and Verona Van Lanen; Many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Norbert and Donna Fonferek. Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m., and again on Thursday after 9 a.m. until the procession leaves for church. Parish wake service at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Church, De Pere, with the Rev. Anthony Dolski officiating. Entombment in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Vogels and the nursing staff at Aurora Bay Care Hospital for their compassionate care of Shawn and his family.

Frances Vanden Hoogen Hendricks Penn
Frances Vanden Hoogen Hendricks Penn, 85, died suddenly Thursday, May 2, 2002, at her home in Rogers, Ark. She was born Sept. 25, 1916, to the late William and Anna Van Summeren Vanden Hoogen. She married Roland Hendricks. He preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 1965. She later married Lorton Penn, who also preceded her in death on April 5, 1997. Frances is survived by one son, William Kathleen Hendricks, Eagle River; three grandchildren, William Dawn Hendricks Jr. and their children, Patrick and Matthew, Clintonville, John Jenny Hendricks and their child, Tanner, Christine Hendricks, all of Green Bay; Lorton’s two sons, Ronald Doris Penn, Richard Sharon Penn; and Lorton’s grandchildren of Iowa. She is also survived by two sisters, Minnie Van Lanen, Mildred Rufus Aschenbrenner, De Pere; one brother, Joe Vanden Hoogen, Milwaukee; three sisters-in-law, Janet, Peggy and Mary Anne Vanden Hoogen; one brother-in-law, Gerald Komorosky; Roland’s sister, brother and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Gofford, Elmer and Evie Hendricks, Rosie Hendricks and Loretta Hansen; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson, James Hendricks; three sisters, Cora Kobes, Susie Hutjens, Harriet Kocken Komorosky; five brothers, Dick Hogen, Bill, Clarence, Harry and Clem Vanden Hoogen; Lorton’s son Robert; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elmer Van Lanen, Neil Kocken, Dell Vanden Hoogen, Ray Hutjens, Frank Kobes, Toni Kobes, Sylvester and Leona Van Gheem, Art Hendricks, Fred Hendricks, Ben Goffard, Jerry and Lillian Goffard and Lyman Hansen. The family will receive friends and relatives at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. The Hendricks family would like to thank Ann and Richard Riesterer for all the help and care given to Frances while she was living in Arkansas. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mrs. Steve Jodi Loomis
Mrs. Steve Jodi Loomis, 32, Ashwaubenon, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 7, 2002, from complications of diabetes. She was born Oct. 16, 1969, to Bernard and Karen Lewis Rusilowski in Racine. On April 15, 2000, she married Steve Loomis at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Jodi had a strong passion for cats, loved reading and had tremendous joy being a 'Tastefully Simple' consultant. Jodi was full of life and laughter and lived life to the fullest. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Steve; her mother, Karen Jensen and special friend, Richard Johnson; one sister, Jennifer Rusilowski; one nephew, Rob Martinez; her father and mother-in-law, Neil and Marilyn Loomis; aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Johnathan. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lyndahl Funeral Home, Lombardi Avenue and Ridge Road. A wake service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday after 10 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Hablewitz officiating. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Ashwaubenon Police Department, the Ashwaubenon Paramedics and the staff at St. Vincent's Hospital.

Zinta Liepins
Zinta Liepins, 57, Minneapolis, formerly of Green Bay, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, in Minneapolis. She was born May 11, 1944, in Riga, Latvia, to the late Aleksandrs and Antonia Liepins. Zinta was a teacher in the Green Bay school system for many years. Most recently, she taught English and German at Green Bay West High School until her retirement in 2001. Recently she moved to the Minneapolis area to be closer to her family. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Andris 'Andy' and Sandra Liepins, Minneapolis; five nieces and nephews and their spouses, Mark Liepins, Douglas and Kim Liepins, Sandra and Anthony Dischinger, Lisa and Erik Moe, all of Minneapolis; William and Jessica Plummer, Aberdeen, Md.; many great-nieces, great-nephews and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Valdis Liepins. Friends and family are invited to gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., on Saturday from 3:30 p.m. until time of the Memorial Service. A Memorial Service will be held 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lauma Zusevic officiating. Burial will be in Latvian Memorial Park cemetery in Elka Park, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Zinta’s memory may be sent to: North Memorial Residential Hospice, 4201 58th Ave. North, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429.

John Andrew Gregg
John Andrew Gregg, 59, Suamico, died unexpectedly May 7, 2002, at a local hospital. The son of Mary Jane and the late Donald Gregg was born Sept. 11, 1942. In August 1967 he married Karen Jane Bernard. He served in the Navy from 1960 to 1963. John started his career in Green Bay in 1969 at Fort Howard where he remained for nine years. He served as president of Medalcraft Mint from 1987 to 1996 and was the CEO/principal for the last six years of his tenure. After leaving Medalcraft, John started Compass Inc., a recognition and commemoration company, where he worked tirelessly to serve his customers. He was currently serving on the Board at St. Mary’s Hospital. John loved spending time with his family and his friends and working around the house. He especially enjoyed his time fishing and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Karen; two sons: James and Bridget Gregg and their children, James, Nicholas and Grace, Eden Prairie, Minn.; Thomas Gregg and his special friend, Ana Mina, Long Beach, Calif.; his mother, Mary Jane Gregg, Richfield, Minn.; two brothers, Thomas Gregg, Minneapolis, Minn., Robert and Kim Gregg, Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Joan and Denny Hoyne, St. Francis, Minn.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Gregg; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Philip and Josephine Bernard. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at SS. Edward & Isidore Church, Flintville. Funeral Mass 5:00 p.m. Friday at the church, Fr. David Kasperek officiating. Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski is assisting the family. A special thank you to the Suamico Police Department, the County Rescue Service and the emergency staff at St. Vincent Hospital. Your help and kindness was greatly appreciated.
A memorial fund has been established in John’s name.

Vernalda Deprey
Vernalda Deprey, 62, Casco, died Monday, May 6, 2002. She was born on Nov. 27, 1939, in Lincoln to Joseph and Delores Stache Deprey. Survivors include her parents, Joseph and Delores Deprey, Casco; one brother, Ron 'Blackie' Lenore Deprey, Algoma; two sisters, Arletta Gerald Bertrand, Luxemburg, Karen Kenny LuMaye, Casco; five nieces and four nephews, Jim Reenie Jonet, Dawn Thomas De Guelle and their children, Megan, Luke and Tucker De Guelle, Tammy Dusty Hoffman and their children, Brandon, Cody and Abby Nowak, Ron Mary Jo Deprey Jr. and their children, Ryan and Evan Deprey, Jerry Bertrand and his children, Jerome and Joshua Bertrand, Jackie Duane Srnka and their children, Kimberly Dorn, Danae and Dakota Srnka, Jodie Mike Glish and their children, Riley and Reece Glish, Scott Jonet and his special friend Chris, Jennifer John Mc Caffrey. Vernalda was preceded in death by one infant niece, Renee Deprey. Friends may call at the McMAHON FUNERAL HOME, LUXEMBURG, 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday. Prayer service 7 p.m. Thursday led by the Rev. Dennis Drury. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Church, Casco, with the Rev. John Doerfler and the Rev. Dennis Drury officiating.

Fred L. Zimmerman
Fred L. Zimmerman, 39, Green Bay, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002. He was born Sept. 7, 1962, to Wayne and Patricia Lewis Zimmerman in Green Bay. He was a 1980 graduate of Green Bay Southwest High School. For many years, Fred was a chef at Los Banditos East, where many people asked for the salsa recipe. He enjoyed cooking, but his favorite hobby was fishing and going 'up north.' He never met a person he didn’t like. Fred was kind, generous and kind hearted. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew and loved him. Survivors include his two sons, Zachary and Adam, whom he loved very much, and their mother, Lisa; and his parents, Wayne and Patricia Zimmerman, all of Green Bay; one brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Brenda and their children, Chris, Grant, Garrett, Eric, Stephen and Laura; one sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Keith Oelke and their children, Nicholas and Amanda, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and his special girlfriend, Debbie and her children, Chris and Tasha, who made their home with Fred. He was preceded in death by one brother. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lyndahl Funeral Home, Lombardi Avenue at Ridge Road. Visitation will continue after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home where funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Emmel officiating. Burial will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Cynthia J. Wiskow
Cynthia J. Wiskow, 54, Howard, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2002, at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Cindy was born July 20, 1947, in Green Bay, to Gordon and Thelma Kross Liesch. She was a graduate of Preble High School, Class of 1965, and later from NWTC with an Associate Degree in Business Banking. On Oct. 1, 1966, she married the love of her life, Dean E. Wiskow, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Green Bay. Cindy was employed as an Executive Administrative Assistant at Associated Bank; a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Oneida; and the Altar Guild Society at the church. Cindy will be truly missed. She was an inspiration to all who knew her because of her unfailing faith in God, courage and strength. She left us to join her Savior in the same manner in which she lived her life — with love, hope, courage and dignity. Survivors include her husband, Dean, Howard; three wonderful sons whom she deeply cherished, Jason D. Karen Wiskow and their children, Zachary and Jordan, Matthews, N.C.; Steven J. Wiskow, Denver, Colo.; Mickey Wiskow, Milwaukee; one brother, John Pat Liesch and their children, Matthew, Patrick, Ann Marie, Michael and Brian, all of Racine; one sister, Pam Joe Bins and their son, Daniel, De Pere; sisters-in-law, Carol Vernon Siech, Green Bay, Isabel Giese, Milwaukee; brother-in-law, Melvin Schultz, Bonduel; further survived by aunts and cousins. Cindy was preceded in death by her mother, 1977; her father, 1995; sisters and brothers-in-law, Myrtle Schultz; Ruth and Art Tolzman; and Robert Giese. The family will receive friends at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home West, 1145 Cardinal Lane, Howard, on Thursday, April 11, from 4 until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue after 10 a.m. on Friday at the Zion Lutheran Church, Rosehill Drive, Oneida. Funeral service 11 am Friday at the church with the Rev. Vernon Heim officiating. Entombment to follow. Harold J. Pfotenhauer, Funeral Director. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Cindy’s name. The family wishes to thank Pastor and Mrs. Heim; family; her many friends; her church family at Zion Lutheran; her co-workers from Associated Bank; and all those who sent cards, gifts or visited her. A very special thank you to the Treankler Family; Dr. Hoppe, Dr. Koch and the wonderful staff from Unity Hospice, Cheryl Culver, Patti Martens, Lynn Nier, Sandy Pomerening, Nicole Schomaker, Jacci White and Mariah Kelley. I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smile when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways. Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun. Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
