Sam L. Charles
A funeral service was held on Saturday at Berndt Funeral Home in Hartford for Sam L. Charles, 52, of Juneau, who died on Feb. 1, 2000. Rev. Doug Livingston officiated at the service. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Berndt Funeral Home, Hartford, assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Charles was employed at ATACO Steel in Cedarburg for over 25 years and was also a great outdoorsman.
Survivors include: mother Hazel Krueger; daughter Nicci (Jerry) Grzesk, West Allis; sons Jeffrey (fiancee Michele Kraus) Pierson, West Bend, Steven (Jayne) Charles, Belgium; William Charles, Jackson; special friend Sandi Zastrow.
Further survived by six grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Charles was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Krueger.
Dolaine H. Genthe
Dolaine H. Genthe, nee Halvorsen, 69, of Big Cedar Lake, was born to life on Nov. 21, 1930, and was born to eternal life on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000.
She was the beloved wife of William K.; dear mother of William H. (Patricia), Elissa G. (Gerald) Wold, Christopher C. (Deborah) and Nina (Michael) Garlie; proud grandmother of Jamie, Katlin and William H. Genthe; Jared, Julia and Victoria Wold and Kristen Pope; Analiese and Amelia Genthe; and Lydia and Samuel Garlie; sister of Lois (John) Vitcenda and Karen (Robert) Neubauer; sister-in-law of Joyce (Russell) Petersen and Ernest Zellmer.
She is further survived by her aunt, Vera McWhorter; her uncle, Herbert Klug; cousins; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, W156 N8131 Pilgrim Road, Menomonee Falls. Interment will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Thursday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials to the Nurses Foundation of Wisconsin Inc., or the charity of the donor's choice are appreciated.

Elroy A. 'Sammy' Uelmen
Elroy A. "Sammy" Uelmen, of West Bend, entered Eternal Life surrounded by his family at home on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at the age of 82.
He was born March 14, 1917, in St. Michaels to the late Nick and Susan (nee Schlosser) Uelmen. His mother died when he was an infant and his father then married Mary Hurdt, the stepmother who raised him.
On June 17, 1944, he married Evelyn E. Stern.
Sammy was a proud worker for the city of West Bend for nearly 28 years, retiring in March 1979.
His life-long interest in baseball led him to being an active player for many years for Fillmore, St. Michaels and New Fane teams.
Over the years, he took a lot of good-natured ribbing on being an avid Yankees fan.
His family will always remember the many games of cards they enjoyed together.
Survivors include his wife; six children, Lloyd "Whitey" (Linda) of West Bend, Elaine (Ray) Maurer of Campbellsport, Carol Sabish of Kewaskum, Ken (special friend Jean) of Horicon, Jane (Dave) Tolonen of Allenton and Cheryl (Bob) Olson of West Bend; 17 grandchildren, Sheri, David, Lisa, Brenda, Ray, Shelly, Penny, Tammy, Kim, Jenny, Nick, Kayla, Craig, Ryan, Eric, Travis and Justin; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marcella Donath of Fillmore; a brother, Frank (Alice) of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Lily Uelmen of West Bend; other relatives and many friends.
He was reunited in heaven with his parents, his stepmother, a grandson, Jeff Sabish, a sister, Celesta Uelmen and a brother, Ray.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, West Bend. Rev. Patrick Wendt will be the presider, and interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in St. Michael's Cemetery, St. Michaels.
Visitation at the church only will be Tuesday from 3 to 7:15 p.m.

Frieda K. Roecker
Frieda K. Roecker, nee Zumach, of West Bend, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital at the age of 96.
She was born April 1, 1903, in Kewaskum, to the late Gustave and Amelia (nee Radtke) Zumach, and married Leonard Roecker on June 23, 1923, at St. Lucas Lutheran Church, Kewaskum.
Soon after their marriage, the couple moved to West Bend.
Leonard passed away on Nov. 13, 1975.
Frieda moved to the Sunset Senior Home in West Bend a year and a half ago.
She was an active member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend, and a member of the St. John's Ladies Aid.
Frieda was very devoted to her family and was known to many people as "Grandma Roecker."
Survivors include two children, Leonard (Patricia) and Janice (Roger) Siemers, both of West Bend; seven grandchildren, Karen Bacha, Donna (Richard) Bucklew, Marilou (Bret) Portlier, Leonard (Crystal) Roecker, Nancy (Charles) Soule, Jeffrey Siemers and David Siemers; nine great-grandchildren, Tracy, Bradley, Kelsey, Michael, Macy, Autumn, Charles, Tori and Taylor; a sister, Linda Hirschboeck of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were four sisters, Esther Zumach, Viola Gutjahr, Elsie Boettcher and Adela Treichel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend. Rev. Daniel Kelm and Rev. George Mumm will officiate, and burial will follow in Union Cemetery, West Bend.
Visitation at the church only will be Wednesday from noon until the time of services.
Memorials to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church are appreciated.

Douglas W. 'Doug' Firme
Douglas W. "Doug" Firme, 57, of West Bend, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
He was born July 27, 1942, in West Bend, to Harold and Leota (Behnke) Firme, and graduated from West Bend High School in 1961.
After his marriage to Marie Boch in 1964 in West Bend, the couple lived in the West Bend area.
He was employed at Gehl Co. of West Bend for over 35 years, and was also self-employed as a painter in the West Bend and surrounding areas.
Doug was a member of the Gehl Company Hexelbank.
His wife passed away in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Michael Winget of West Bend and his mother, Leota M. Firme-Diener of West Bend. He is further survived by Michael's sister, Christine Sabel of West Bend; Michael's mother, Kathryn Porod of West Bend; a special friend, Karen Zarder of West Bend; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his father and stepfather, Otis Diener.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m. at The Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend. Daniel A Salter, a friend of the family, will officiate, and cremation will take place at Parkview Cremations of Fond du Lac.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.
Glenn W. DeBruine
Glenn W. DeBruine, 67, of West Bend, formerly of Cedar Grove, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Milwaukee, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks.
Glenn was born Jan. 3, 1933, in the town of Holland, to the late Willis and Sadie (Schreurs) DeBruine, and graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1951.
Glenn served in the U.S. Army with the 6th Armored Division from 1953-'55.
He was a cabinet installer much of his life, having worked for the Mallard Co. in West Bend.
Glenn enjoyed furniture making, model ship building and oil painting as hobbies.
Survivors include two sisters, Bernice Brusse of Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls and Lois Meeusen of Cedar Grove; nieces and nephews, Bob (Vel) Brusse, Betty (Bob) Voss, Bonnie (Larry) Kairys, Bill (Fran) Brusse, Barb (Rich) Rudebeck, Bev (James) Brunner, Barry (Deborah) Brusse, Linda Herber, Dale (Joan) Meeusen, Carol (Dale) Huenink and Joy (Scot) Smies; great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Ellsworth and Roland, and two brothers-in-law, Chester Brusse and Wesley Meeusen.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Huehns-Wenig Funeral Home, Oostburg. Rev. Richard Edwards will officiate, and burial will take place in Cedar Grove Presbyterian Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of service.
Memorials are appreciated to Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove or the charity of the donor's choice.
Katherine T. Butzler
Katherine T. Butzler, nee Schnitzler, of Hartford, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Hartford Memorial Hospital, at the age of 101.
She was born Oct. 16, 1898, in St. Lawrence to the late John and Anna (nee Hug) Schnitzler, and married George A. Butzler Sr. on June 28, 1921, at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Hartford.
He passed away on June 25, 1975.
Katherine retired from food service at Hartford Union High School.
She was a member of St. Kilian's Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors include her son, Bob (LaVerne) of Hartford; three daughters, Mary Ann (Mark Y.) Hite of Modesto, Calif., Margaret (Doug) Smith of Hartford and Sister Helen Butzler of Milwaukee; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a son, George J. Jr.; four brothers; and a sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Hartford. Father John Campbell S.J. will officiate, and interment will be in St. Kilian's Cemetery.
Visitation at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials to the School Sisters of St. Francis, St. Kilian's Building Fund or Hartford Memorial Hospital Family Hospice Unit are appreciated.
