Harvey J. Knop, 82
Harvey J. Knop, 82, of West Bend, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at his residence.
He was born June 26, 1917, in Richfield, to the late Edward and Louisa (Nehrbass) Knop, was raised in the Newburg area, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
After his marriage to Hildegard M. July on April 19, 1941, at St. Mary's Rectory, Barton, the couple lived in Barton.
He was an auto mechanic in the West Bend area for Ted Lauck, and later the city of West Bend, retiring in 1980.
Survivors include his wife; nine children, Roger (Jean), Shirley (Elmer) Woods, Robert, Kenneth (Michele), Donald (Lynn) and Diane Knop, all of West Bend, Jan (Jeff) Gall of Saukville, Chris (Herman) Huebner of Adell and Jeff (Wendy) of Germantown; 26 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Loppnow of Newburg and Bernice (Ralph) Zeckmeistr of Saukville; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a sister and a brother.
He was a member of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, the Loyal Order of Moose 1398 of West Bend, Lt. Ray Dickop Post 36 American Legion of West Bend and the VFW Post 1393 of West Bend.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend. Father Patrick Wendt will officiate, and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery West Bend, at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are appreciated to The Threshold of West Bend, the VFW or American Legion of West Bend.

Henry Stahl, 86
Henry Stahl, 86, of Phoenix, Ariz. and Newburg, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, in Phoenix.
He was born June 18, 1913, in Newburg, to the late Joseph and Susan (nee Schwinn) Stahl, and on June 7, 1947, married Leona C. Truebenbach at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Newburg.
Prior to his retirement in 1976, he was the owner of Blazel and Stahl Feed Mill in Newburg for 31 years.
In his leisure time, Henry enjoyed playing sheepshead, gardening and working around his home.
Survivors include his wife; a sister, Marie Bucholtz of Franklin; a brother, Martin of West Allis; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were two sisters and four brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Newburg. Rev. Robert Sampon will be the presider and entombment will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
Visitation at the church only will be Thursday from 5 to 7:15 p.m.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.

Bertha Holz Ebert Manthei, 90
Bertha Holz Ebert Manthei, 90, nee Marquardt, formerly of the town of Osceola, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at the Samaritan Home, West Bend.
She was born Oct. 4, 1909, in the town of Osceola, to the late Charles and Emma (Kutz) Marquardt, and married Bernard Holz. After his death she married Albert Holz, and after Albert passed away, she married John Ebert. After John's death, she married Earl Manthei.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Dundee, and worked at Regal Ware in Kewaskum for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Clinton Holz of North Fond du Lac and Otto Holz; 7 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Ida Zielieke.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Dundee. Rev. Richard Schliewe will officiate, and burial will follow in Waucousta Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Thursday from noon until the time of services.
The Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport, is serving the family.

Rose Beck, 99
Rose Beck, nee Welsch, 99, formerly of Campbellsport, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Hope Nursing Home, Lomira.
She was born Nov. 9, 1900, in the town of Lomira, to the late Leonard and Theresa (nee Marx) Welsch, and married Jacob Beck on Nov. 21, 1919, in Lomira. He passed away April 6, 1964.
She and her husband farmed in the Kewaskum area until 1958.
She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Campbellsport and the Christian Mother's Society, and enjoyed crocheting, gardening and quilting.
Survivors include three sons, Alex (Frances) and Rolland (Helen), both of Horicon and Leo (Rose Marie) of Kewaskum; two daughters, Donna (Bob) Anderson of Jim Falls and Dorothy Bartoli of LeRoy; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Joseph and Oscar; a sister, Susan Steiner; a daughter-in-law Irene; and a great-grandson, Jeremy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Campbellsport. Rev. Francis Malloy and Rev. Deacon Bob Anderson will officiate, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
The Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport is serving the family.

R. Mark Trueblood, 43
R. Mark Trueblood of West Bend, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at his home at the age of 43, losing his courageous battle to ALS disease.
He was born Sept. 2, 1956, in Lafayette, Ind., to Joyce (nee Hughes) and the late Robert Trueblood., and on Aug. 19, 1978, married Debra J. Photenhauer.
Prior to his illness, he was employed at MBC Foods in Milwaukee.
For many years Mark coached girls' basketball and baseball teams, as well as Little League teams. With his interest in sports, and as a member of St. Mary's Parish, Mark was the founder and first president of St. Mary's Athletic Association.
His life touched so many and he will forever be remembered.
His participation in the ALS research program in life and death will enable his peaceful and kind spirit to live on.
He was the best friend and loving husband of Debra; the caring dad of Christi and Kyle, both at home; the dear son of Joyce Trueblood of Slinger; the dear son-in-law of Pat Photenhauer of Milwaukee and Calvin (Eileen) Photenhauer of Milwaukee; the fond brother of Alan (Robin) of Plainfield, Ill. and Kelli (David) Effinger of Milwaukee; the fond brother-in-law of Jeffrey (Lisa) Photenhauer of West Allis; the proud uncle and godfather of Ashley Trueblood and Josef Photenhauer; and the fond uncle of Chelsea Trueblood and Jamie and Mallory Photenhauer. He is further survived by special friends, Dennis and Sue Hausmann of West Bend, and other relatives and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, West Bend. Rev. Patrick Wendt will be the presider, and interment will be held Wednesday morning at St. Mary's (new) Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Tuesday from 4 to 6:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the ALS Foundation.

Vera I. Schall, 77
Vera I. Schall, 77, nee Kurtz, of West Bend, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospice, Milwaukee.
She was born Sept. 13, 1922, in the town of Farmington, to the late William and Clara (nee Seideman) Kurtz, and married Daniel Schall on June 2, 1941, in Ackerville. He passed away on Sept. 10, 1990.
Vera farmed with her husband for many years and also worked at Level Valley Dairy for 19 years.
In her later years, Vera enjoyed crafting with her daughter and playing cards with her brother and sister-in-law.
She volunteered at the Samaritan Health Center and also supported Special Olympics.
Survivors include seven children, Patricia Reimann of Freemont, Charlotte (Henry) Krokosky of Appleton, Michael (Christine) of Juneau, Pamela (Larry) Weiss of Allenton, Dawn Jaeger of West Bend, Mark of Germantown and Daniel Jr. (Laurie) of Mazomanie; eight grandchildren; Patti Reimann, Neal Krokosky, Alyson Krokosky, Jason Schall, Kevin Schall, Stacy Schall, Katie Schall and Kelly Schall; a brother, Clarence (Genevieve) of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a sister, Nelda Habeck, and a son-in-law, Robert Reimann.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Newburg. Rev. Jon Baumann will officiate, and burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Newburg.
Visitation at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday from noon until the time of services.
Memorials to The Threshold Inc. of West Bend, are appreciated.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at St. Mary's Hospice and Vera's primary physicians, Dr. Charles Tiber and Dr. David Hoogerland.

Donald M. Thomas
Donald M. Thomas, 73, of West Bend, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at St. Luke's Medical Center, Milwaukee.
He was born Oct. 2, 1926, in Kenosha, to the late Clarence and Ella (nee Maelstrom) Thomas.
After graduating from high school in Kenosha, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served overseas during World War II in the Pacific Theater and the occupation of Japan until his discharge in November, 1946.
On May 24, 1952, he married Patricia Tourtelotte at St. George Catholic Church, Kenosha. In 1964 they moved to West Bend.
Don worked for the Wisconsin Telephone Co., first as a lineman and later in sales and marketing. He retired in 1982 after 35 years of service.
For saving the life of another, Don earned the Wisconsin Bell Vail Award for Heroism twice, in 1948 and 1953, and also the Carnegie Hero Award in 1953.
He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend, and the Wisconsin Ch. 4 Ameritech Pioneers.
After retirement, Don and Pat spent time traveling, and his hobby of antiquing became more of a full-time commitment.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Ann (John) Kocher of West Bend, Robert (Mary) of Fredericksburg, Va. and David (Cynthia) of Lake Worth, Fla.; a granddaughter that was the light of his life, Amanda Kocher of West Bend; a brother, Clarence (Jeanette) of New Hope, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Rita Jones of Kenosha; a dear aunt, Ethel O'Brien of Mesa, Ariz.; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were twin sisters, Dorothy and Vivian.
A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend.
Visitation at the church only will be Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of Mass.
The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, is assisting the family.
