Lillie S. Powers
Lillie S. Powers, nee Gramoll, of West Bend, formerly of Milwaukee, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center, at the age of 87.
She was born Aug. 27, 1912, in Milwaukee, to the late Charles and Ella (Hellwig) Gramoll, and married Harold Powers in Milwaukee.
Following their marriage the couple lived in Milwaukee where she was a secretary for Dunn and Bradstreet and the Milwaukee County Election Committee.
Her husband passed away in 1989.
Survivors include two sons, Donald (Marie) and Richard (Catherine), both of Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Donna Powers, David (Maribelle) Powers, Paul Powers and Katie Powers; a great-grandchild, Daniel Powers; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Florence.
She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, West Bend.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend.
Pastor James Eckblad will officiate, and interment will take place in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Milwaukee, on Thursday at 10 a.m.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials to Immanuel United Church of Christ, West Bend, are appreciated.

Helmer Vernon Cook
Helmer Vernon Cook, of Milwaukee, formerly of West Bend, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Alexian Village Health Center, Milwaukee, at the age of 83.
He was born on March 18, 1916, in St. James, Minn., to the late Hamer and Bessie (nee Balzer) Cook, and married Clara Wilger on June 22, 1935, at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Parish, West Bend.
While living in West Bend he was employed at the former Pick Mfg. Co., and after moving to Milwaukee, he worked for Allis Chalmers and later Froedtert Malt Co, retiring in 1966.
Helmer was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Milwaukee.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joyce (Daniel) Knippel of Milwaukee, Mary Ann (Joseph) Esser of Twin Lakes and Jane Alice (Mark) O'Boyle of Fox Point; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Viola Koenings of West Bend and Margaret (Fred) Dorn of Kewaskum; two brothers, Floyd (Helen) of Phelps and Lloyd (Katie) of Reedsville; three sisters-in-law, Molly Wilger of Cedarburg, Meta Wilger of West Bend and Dorothy Cook of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a sister, Ruby Troedel, and three brothers, Edward, Leslie and Leonard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Parish, West Bend. Rev. Patrick Wendt will be the presider and burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery (old).
Visitation at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m., and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of mass.
Memorials to Alexian Village Health Center are appreciated.

Josephine Tabaska
Josephine Tabaska, nee Kunda, of West Bend, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at the Samaritan Health Center, West Bend, at the age of 87.
She was born Sept. 29, 1912, in Milwaukee, to the late Jacob and Catherine (nee Stefaniak) Kunda.
Survivors include two children, Betty (Robert) Boehme of West Bend and Gerald (Ursula) Tabaska of Craig, Colo.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven brothers; other relatives and friends.
Private funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend. Rev. Gerald Brittain of Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend, officiated, and entombment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee.

Paul J. Slesarik
Paul J. Slesarik, 81, of Adell, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Valley View Medical Center, Plymouth.
He was born Jan. 8, 1919, near Lannon, to the late Stephen and Pauline (nee Dohnanske) Slesarik, and married Velda Schroeder on July 29, 1942, in Providence, R.I.
Paul was self-employed as a carpenter and contractor for many years, and was a member of the West Bend Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Susan (Charles) Koehler of Grafton, Wendy Slesarik of Cedarburg, Steven (Virginia) Slesarik of Adell, Amy (Daniel) Schommer of Fredonia and Daniel (Rachel) Slesarik of Darlington; four grandchildren, Jason Koehler, Scott Sajdowitz, Ashley Sajdowitz and Jena Slesarik; three sisters, Pauline Kieferndorf of Milwaukee, Magda Shnabl of Kiel and Margaret (Edward) Hieder of Brown Deer; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of services.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Birnamwood.

Aaron A. Zielieke, 81
Aaron A. Zielieke, age 81, of N944 Elmore Drive, Campbellsport dies Wednesday, Feb.9, 2000, at the Samaritan Health Center, West Bend. He was born in the town of Wayne on January 20, 1919, the son of Albert and Martha Wehling Zielieke. On Dec. 24,1943, he married Geraldine Thurman in Farmington. Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from June 1941 until November 1945. He owned and operated Zielieke Well Drilling Inc. He was a member of the Wisconsin Water Well Association, the National Ground Water Association and the Campbellsport VFW Post.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine, four children, Jerry (Jewel), Brenda (Bill) Skudlarczyk, Jeff (special friend Char) all of Campbellsport and Robyn (Brian) King of Fond du Lac; eight grandchildren, Jon (Jill) Zielieke, Jim Zielieke, Jennifer (Bob) Lalko, Ree Skudlarczyk (Fiance Eric Mies), Daniel Molash, Aaron Zielieke, Devin and Ethan King; three great-grandchildren, Cody, Clayton and Nathan Zielieke; one brother, Atville (Fern) of Campbellsport, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Sylvia Baumhardt and one brother, Walter.
Family services were held on Friday, Feb. 11 at the Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport. Rev. Louis Riesch officiated and burial followed in Union Cemetery, Campbellsport. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.

Carol J. Baus, 62
Carol J. Baus, nee Benz, of West Bend, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, at the age of 62.
She was born Aug. 1, 1937, in Milwaukee, to the late George and Rosalie (nee Boivin) Benz.
Carl was employed as a custodial maintenance worker for the University of Wisconsin System for many years,retiring from UWWC on July 31, 1997.
Survivors include two children, James (Linda) Grisaffi of Waukesha and Corrien Grisaffi of West Bend; four grandchildren, James, Josiah, Anthony and Candace; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a son, George Grisaffi, and two sisters, Dorothy Holland and Rosalie Hester.
A private family memorial service will be held.
Memorials to the Cancer Center at St. Joseph's Community Hospital of West Bend, are appreciated.
The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, is assisting the family.

William C. 'Bill' Merten, 77
William C. "Bill" Merten, 77, of West Bend, formerly of Menomonee Falls, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at St. Luke's Medical Center of Milwaukee.
He was born May 5, 1922, in Butler, to the late Lester and Agnes (nee Karr) Merten, and graduated from Shorewood High School in 1940.
Following his marriage to Virginia R. Drollinger on March 4, 1944, in Milwaukee, the couple lived in Menomonee Falls.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Bill was the owner and operator of the Merten Dairy of Menomonee Falls for over 30 years, retiring in the early 1980s, and settling in West Bend in the late 1980s.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Ronald (Carol) of Oswego, Ill., Richard and James (Christine), both of Menomonee Falls, Mary (Dave) Jenkins of Appleton and Julie (R.J.) Kahn of Hubertus; eight grandchildren; a sister, Marge Pett of the town of Summit; a brother-in-law, William Rose of Oconomowoc, and on Virginia's side, a sister-in-law, Eunice Wiest of Menomonee Falls and a brother-in-law, Frank (Ann) Drollinger of Neshkoro. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Dorothy.
Bill was a member of Northbrook Church of Richfield.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, at 11:30 a.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend. Pastor Robert M. Robinson will officiate, and interment will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials are appreciated to Northbrook Church of Richfield, or The American Heart Association.

Makayla R. Lighthizer, infant
God's littlest angel, Makayla Rose Lighthizer, was chosen by God on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000.
She was born Feb. 8, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend, to Daniel and Melissa (nee Luedtke) Lighthizer of Slinger.
Survivors include her parents; maternal grandmother, Patricia Luedtke of West Bend; paternal grandparents, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Lighthizer of Slinger; maternal great-grandmother, Virginia Turba of Wisconsin Rapids; paternal grandmothers, Betty Lighthizer of Slinger and Marion (Charles) Sage of Slinger; aunts;uncles; cousins and other relatives.
Preceding her in death was her maternal grandfather, Tony Luedtke.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 13, at 3 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home of Slinger. Father Richard C. Breitbach will officiate, and interment will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, town of Addison.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
