Max N. Decker, 77
Max N. Decker, 77, of West Bend, formerly of East Peoria, Ill., died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at the Cedar Lake Home Campus.
He was born May 3, 1922, in Marion County, Ill., to the late Loren and Lucy (Warren) Decker, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
After his marriage to Kathryn L. "Lorraine" Bayles on July 9, 1942, in Flora, Ill., the couple lived in East Peoria, Ill.
He was employed as a machinist for Caterpillar of Peoria, Ill. for over 26 years, retiring in 1983.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Deanna (Roger) McClain of West Bend, Larry (Carol) Decker of Plymouth, Minn. and Douglas Decker of Minneapolis, Minn.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Peggy) Decker of Kansas, Ill.; a half- brother, Dan (Karen) Powell of Flora, Ill.; a half-sister, Karen (Wayne) Pearson of New Chaney, Texas; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Neal.
He was a member of Bread of Life Church in Mission, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3, at 3 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend. Pastor William Dushek will officiate, and cremation will take place in Parkview Crematory, Fond du Lac.
Visitation at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Friday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Memorials are appreciated to the American Alzheimer's Association or the AIDS Research Foundation.

Lucille C. Maedke, 81
Lucille C. Maedke, 81, of West Bend, was born to eternal life on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
She was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Sheboygan County, to the late William and Paula (nee Boltz) Little, and on July 7, 1943, married Raymond A. Maedke.
The couple farmed for two years in the town of Auburn, then moved to the town of Wayne and farmed until 1963 when they moved to the St. Kilian area to farm until his death in 1985.
Lucille then moved to West Bend where she resided until her death.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Campbellsport and Calvary Assembly of God, West Bend, and a regular at the senior center in West Bend.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Darmody of West Bend; a son, William E. (JoAnn) of Eden; eight grandchildren, Kristine (AJ) Leonard, Stacey Darmody, Mary Maedke, William A. Maedke, Michael Darmody, Kelly Darmody, Laura Maedke and Patricia Maedke; a great-grandson, Devin Leonard; a special nephew, George R. Wagner; a sister, Cora Wagner; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Milton and Cynthia Maedke; other nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were an infant son, David; a daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Wilfred Birschbach; a sister, Audrey Obreys; a brother, Harley Little; and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Maedke.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 1, at 1 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Campbellsport. Rev. Stanley Hayes will officiate, and burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Campbellsport.
Visitation at the Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport, will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday at the church from noon to 1 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church, Campbellsport.

Margurite Rilling, 83
A funeral service was held on Feb. 26 at Mueller Funeral Home in Grafton for Margurite Rilling, 83, who died on Feb. 23, 2000. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grafton. Mueller Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Rilling was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Cedarburg, daughter of Carl and Martha (nee Lemke) Krammer. She worked as a homemaker and was a member of the Grafton Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include: brothers-in-law Don (Marilyn) Rilling of Port Washington and Henry (Jeanette) Rilling of Sheboygan.
Further survived by nieces, a nephew, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Rilling and her parents.
Memorials to the Grafton Ladies Auxilliary are appreciated.

Jodi M. Mantel, 36
Funeral services were held Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Grafton, for Cedarburg resident Jodi M. Mantel, 36, a mother of four children, who died Feb. 23, 2000.
Rev. Larry Prahl officiated at the services, with burial at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Grafton. Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton, handled the arrangements.
Mrs. Mantel was born in Sheboygan on April 23, 1963. She married Dean Mantel on March 10, 1990, and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband Dean Mantel of Cedarburg; daughter Kelsey Mantel of Cedarburg; sons Chase, Tanner and Luke Mantel, all of Cedarburg; father Jim (Sue) Meyer of Sheboygan; sister Cori (fiance Walter James) Meyer of Victorville, Calif.; brother Rory (Barbara) Meyer of Fort Atkinson; grandmother Maebelle Meyer of Sheboygan; father-in-law Alvin (Patricia) Mantel of Germantown; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Florence T. Alexander, 93
A funeral service was held on Feb. 25 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Florence T. Alexander, 93, who died on Feb. 23, 2000. Fr. Ken Knipple officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grafton.
Mrs. Alexander was born June 12, 1906, in Port Washington, daughter of John and Anna (nee Schardt) Paulin. She was a teacher of the one-room schools of Ozaukee County. She was a teacher with the Grafton Elementary School system for over 40 years and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Grafton Legion.
Survivors include nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Peter Alexander and her parents.
Memorials to St. Joseph’s Catholic School appreciated.

Estelle Hegner, 88
Estelle Hegner, nee Vondrasek, 88, of West Bend, formerly of Crystal Lake, Ill., died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at the Cedar Bay Residential Facility.
She was born Sept. 13, 1911, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Joseph and Marie (Kouka) Vondrasek, and married Henry Hegner on June 24, 1933, in Chicago.
He passed away in March, 1982.
Following their marriage, the couple lived in Cicero, Ill., until 1982, when they moved to Crystal Lake. In 1996 she moved to West Bend.
Survivors include two children, Henry (Erna) of Moneta, Va. and Judith (Frank) Vetrovec of Hayward, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Novak of Illinois; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend. Pastor William Dushek officiated, and interment was in Bohemia National Cemetery of Chicago, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

Anthony "Tony" Shulka, 94
Anthony "Tony" Shulka, 94, of West Bend, formerly of the town of Kewaskum, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 5, 1905, in Prairie du Chien, to the late Albert and Sarah (White) Shulka, and on Nov. 16, 1935, married Elnora Updyke in Prairie du Chien.
Mr. Shulka was in the lumber business all his life, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, West Bend.
Survivors include his loving wife; four children, Velma (Leo) Casey, Joann (Glenn) Naumann and Dorothy Wagner (Ralph Jacklin), all of West Bend, and Donna (Vern) Knake of Harvard, Ill.; a sister, Evelyn Ebersold of Campbellsport; a daughter-in-law, Sandi Nelson of Tucson, Ariz.; a son-in-law, Ronald Davis of Poplar Grove, Ill.; three sisters-in-law, Myrtle Shulka of Kewaskum and Esther Shulka and Alice Shulka, both of Prairie du Chien; a dear friend, Karen Faber of Kewaskum; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a son-in-law, Peter Wagner; three grandchildren, Ricky Davis, Patrick Casey and Patricia Shulka; eight brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, at the Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum.
Rev. David Schoob will officiate, and burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Lutheran Memorial Park, Kewaskum.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church are appreciated.

Ella Ahlers
A funeral service was held Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton for Ella Ahlers, 88, who died on Feb. 19, 2000. Rev. John Suelflow officiated at the ceremony, with Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton, assisting the family with arrangements. Burial was at Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg.
Mrs. Ahlers was born July 17, 1911 in Cedarburg, daughter of Edward and Wilhelmina (nee Gierach) Groth. She married Arnold Ahlers on June 26, 1937 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton.
She worked for Power Products in Grafton for over 20 years, retiring in 1975 and was also a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: daughters Marlene (Roger) Garbisch of Kewaskum and Sherianne (Ronald) Wiechmann of Waterloo; sister Selma Lawrenz of Random Lake.
She is further survived by eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Arnold.
Memorials to the church are appreciated.

George L. Commo
A private graveside service was held at Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac for George L. Commo, 78, who died on Feb. 18, 2000. Schramka-Gunther Funeral Home, Cedarburg, assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Commo was a longtime resident of Family Tree Residential Facilities in Grafton and was a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lucille (nee Monion) Commo.
