Ralph Laubenstein
A funeral service was held on March 5, 2000, at St. Paul Lutheran Church for Ralph Laubenstein, 73, who spent a decade as Grafton village president and died on March 3, 2000. Rev. John Suelflow officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton. Burial was at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Grafton.
Mr. Laubenstein was born Aug. 14, 1926 in Grafton, son of Ruben and Ida (nee Mueller) Laubenstein. He married Elaine Schulze on June 4, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg.
He worked as the owner and operator of a construction company. He was a past president and trustee of the Village of Grafton for many years. For over 30 years he was a member of the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department and a longtime active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: daughter Beverly (Glenn) Schinker, Belgium; sons Robert Laubenstein, Grafton, Roger (Sue) Laubenstein, Sussex; brother Harold (Diana) Laubenstein, Ariz.; sister Lillian Zaun, Cedarburg.
Further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine Laubenstein and his parents.
Memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Grafton Fire Department or the charity of the donor’s choice are appreciated.

Catherine A. Doyle-Jaeger
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 11 at St. Frances Cabrini Church in West Bend for Catherine A. Doyle-Jaeger of West Bend, 88, who died on March 6, 2000. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A prayer vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Closing of the casket prayers will be at 10 a.m. at The Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend. Father Jeffrey R. Haines will officiate at the ceremony. Interment will take place at Holy Angels Cemetery following the Mass.
Mrs. Doyle-Jaeger was born Nov. 20, 1911 in Hartford, daughter of Adolph and Frances (nee Nussbum) Deutsch. She was married to Fred Doyle from Aug. 21, 1937 to Oct. 6, 1965 and Wilbert Jaeger from Oct. 6, 1970 until Nov. 13, 1980.
She owned and operated Doyle’s Variety Store in Grafton for over 15 years. She was later a secretary for Serigraph Sales of West Bend for over 12 years. She was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church and Christian Mother’s Interparish Prayer Chain, Young at Heart of Cedar Lake, and past president of St. Joseph’s Christian Mother’s of Grafton.
Survivors include: sons Jerry (Julie) Doyle of Los Gatos, Calif. and David (Paula) Doyle of West Bend; daughter Sheila (Thomas) Stoddart of Sturgeon Bay; stepsons William (Ruth) Jaeger of Rhinelander and Kenneth (Veronica) Jaeger of Milwaukee; stepdaughter Judith (Donald) Limberg of Marinette; sisters Cecilia Regan of Whitewater, Helene Noble of Jefferson, Irene Hobein of Hazelhurst and Rita Ann (Earl) Bauer of Dallas, Texas; and sister-in-law Marie Deutsch of Hartford.
Further survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, nine adopted "grandchildren," nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and brother Oscar.

Mildred H. Bigelow
A service will be held at 6 p.m. this evening at Mueller Funeral Home for Mildred H. Bigelow, 90, who died on March 5, 2000. Deacon Dick Govek will officiate at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton. Cremation was held and inurnment is at Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee.
Mrs. Bigelow was born Oct. 30, 1909 in Chicago, Ill., daughter of Stanley and Anntonette (nee Minor) Koldan. She married Edwin B. Bigelow Sr., on July 11, 1930 in Crown Point, Ind.
She and her husband built their home in Grafton in 1946, then Mildred moved to Cedarburg in 1993. She worked as a homemaker.
Survivors include: son Edwin (Charlotte) B. Bigelow Jr. of Cedarburg; grandchildren Jason Bigelow, Jessica Bigelow and Christopher Bigelow, all of Cedarburg, and Shawn Bigelow of Cascade.
Further survived by four great-granddaughters, one sister, one sister-in-law and one daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Sr., son Robert, two sisters and two brothers.

Tyler L. Chemer, 30
Tyler L. Chemer, 30, of Martinsburg, W.Va., formerly of West Bend, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Martinsburg City Hospital.
He was born Sept. 3, 1969, in West Bend, to Samuel and Karen (nee Margelofsky) Chemer, and graduated from West Bend West High School in 1988.
He was employed at Quad-Graphics for several years and in 1997 moved from West Bend to Martinsburg, W.Va. to work at Quad-Graphic's new plant in Martinsburg.
Survivors include his mother, Karen (Dick) Spiering of West Bend; his father, Samuel Chemer of Hustisford; a brother, Tony (Jenny) Chemer of Jackson; maternal grandparents, Elmer and Verda Margelofsky of Mayville; an aunt, Luanne (Carlie) Tighe of Mayville; two uncles, Merlin (Lorraine) Margelofsky of Tucson, Ariz. and Larry (Cindy) Margelofsky of Vandyne; two nephews, Casey Chemer and Michael Chemer, both of Jackson; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Sam and Christina Chemer.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 12, at 6 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend. Rev. Joseph Fisher of Pilgrim Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend, will officiate, and burial will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials to the American Diabetes Association are appreciated.

Herbert K. Bruessel, 86
Herbert K. Bruessel, 86, of the town of Wayne, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.
He was born March 12, 1913, in the town of Wayne, to the late Charles and Mary (nee Honeck) Bruessel, and married Olive E. Herman on May 22, 1932, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Wayne.
His wife passed away Sept. 9, 1994.
He was a life-long resident of the Wayne area, farming his entire life.
Survivors include a daughter, Marte Ann Duncan of the town of Wayne; a grandson, Duane Duncan (Tricia Silmon); three great-grandchildren, Alicia, Joseph and Dayton; a sister, Marcella Yearling of West Bend; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Bruessel of Kewaskum and Lorraine Hack of Allenton; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were two sons, Karl and Herbert; two sons-in-law, Orin Neitzel and Arvel Duncan; four brothers, Clarence, Marlin, Harvey and Karl, and a sister, Rose Bunke.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 11, at 4 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Wayne. Rev. Steve Bode will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Saturday from 2 to 3:45 p.m.
Memorials may be given to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Miriam W. Rettig, 70
Miriam W. Rettig, nee Peraian, of the town of Polk, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at her residence, at the age of 70.
She was born June 16, 1929, in Zion, Ill., to the late Harry and Ruth (nee Riggins) Peraian.
After her marriage to Robert Rettig on March 13, 1948, in Zion, the couple settled in Zion until moving to Withee, Wis., in 1955.
Miriam managed a dairy co-op in Withee, and also helped farm their farm until moving to this area in 1971.
Shortly after moving here, she became the manager of the Independent Milk Producers Co-op which she did up to 1996. She was also the business manager of Wisconsin Protein Carriers trucking company which she did up to the time of her death.
Miriam was a great mom, and loved sewing and cooking, and was also very active in Calvary Assembly of God Church in West Bend.
Survivors include her husband; eight children, Rodine Rettig of Withee, Rachel (Glenn) Schimelpfenig of Marfa, Texas, Roberta (C.J.) Davis of Milwaukee, Raymond (Lisa) of Jackson, Rebecca (Bryan) Moser of West Bend, Rhonda (Allan) Michalski of Marshfield, Rita (Michael) Krueger of Slinger and Robert Jr. (Sue) of West Bend; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; a sister, Kathryn (David) Shelton of Gig Harbor, Wash.; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a son, Richard, and a grandson, Jeremy Tischendorf.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church, West Bend. Pastor Mark Elliot will officiate, and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
Visitation at the Schmidt Funeral Home, Jackson, will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Those who wish, may give memorials to the American Lung Association.

Paul P. Strobel, 82
Paul P. Strobel, 82, of Plymouth, died Thursday, March 9, 2000 at Valley View Medical Center.
He was born on Dec. 26, 1917 in Hartford, a son of the late Philip and Bertha Kern Strobel. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1936 and served in the United States Army Signal Corps and the Air Corps from June, 1942 until November, 1945, stationed in the Panama Canal Zone and the Galapagos Islands. He was also in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
On June 13, 1944 he married Angeline Leonard in Baker, Montana. The couple lived in Cascade and Plymouth most of their married Life.
She preceded him in death on July 1, 1977.
He worked for Railway Express and was employed by Stokley Van Camp for 36 years as office manager and warehouse supervisor until his retirement in 1984. He was also employed by Central Wrap for many years.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to the National Rifle Association and the Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post #5612. He was a honorary member of the Rhine-Plymouth Field and Stream.
Survivors include six children, Michael (Rita) Strobel of Plymouth, Kathleen (Ron) Dumke of Arlington, Tex., Gregory (Peggy) Strobel of Plymouth, Dennis (Kim) Strobel of Plymouth, Patricia (Joseph) Juarez of Sheboygan, Thomas (Robin Skelton) Strobel of Plymouth; 10 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita (Ben) Zolp of Green Bush, Evelyn Eigenberger of Elkhart Lake; one brother, Harry Strobel (Drois Wigand) of Plymouth; one brother-in-law, Ralph Payne of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; six sisters-in-law, Marjorie Strobel of Plymouth, Agnes Leonard of Milwaukee, Rosemary Carpenter of Milwaukee, Eileen Tokarski of Billings, Mont., and Dorothy Bishop of Bellingham, Wash. He is also survived by 50 nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Strobel, and two sisters, Virginia Tupper and Ethel Payne.
A funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 13 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth in conjunction with a Memorial Mass for Ethel Payne. Rev. Dennis Van Beek, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Lakes Cemetery, Cascade.
Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth on Sunday, March 12 from 3 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Military rites will be performed by the Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post #5612 on Sunday evening at 6 p.m.
The Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth is serving the family.

Esther A. Schowalter, 93
Esther A. Schowalter, nee Dhein, 93,of Menomonee Falls, died Thursday, March 9, 2000.
She was the loving wife of the late Henry P.; beloved mother of Rev. Daniel (Marjorie) and Reuben (Judith); dear grandma of eight and great-grandma of 15; sister of Clara Schowalter and Harvey (Louise) Dhein; sister-in-law of Alma Schowalter, Evelyn Dhein and Delores Dhein; mother-in-law of the late Laura Schowalter. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Visitation at the Schmidt and Bartelt A.A. Schmidt and Sons Funeral Home, Menomonee Falls, will be Sunday, March 12, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's UCC Cemetery, Jackson.
Memorials to St. Peter's UCC or the charity of the donor's choice are appreciated.
