Richard A. Phillips Sr., 55
Richard A. Phillips Sr., 55, of Milwaukee, formerly of Gladstone, Mich., was born to eternal rest on April 18, 2000.
He was the beloved husband of Ruthie (nee Neal); loving father of Richard A. Jr. (Lisa Cessop) and Ann (David) Mals; dear grandfather of Jacob Casey and Alexander David; son of Lucy M. and the late Raymond Phillips Sr.; fond brother of Bill (Eileen), Raymond Jr. (Bonnie), Rodney (Linda) and Dawn Marie (Arland) Lavigne. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at the Bruskiewitz Forest Lane Chapel, 5355 W. Forest Home Ave., Milwaukee. Interment will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery, Escanaba, Mich. on Tuesday. April 25.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Saturday from 3 p.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association are preferred.

Bernetta I. Sutherlun
Bernetta I. Sutherlun (nee Strean), 75, of West Bend, died Thursday, April 20, 2000 at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital.
She was born on Nov. 10, 1924 in West Bend to the late Mearl and Lauretta (nee Lodes) Strean. At an early age, her family moved to Hartford where she attended school. In 1942, she returned to West Bend where she became employed for various retailers.
After her marriage to Charles F. Sutherlun on Oct. 11, 1947 in Fond du Lac, they settled in Fond du Lac. Upon returning to West Bend in 1955, she became employed at Sprague Electric until her retirement due to illness.
She was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ Jackson, where she was an active member of the women’s group for many years.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years; one daughter, Carolgene (Wayne) Schmidt of Germantown; two grandchildren, Gayle Schmidt and Chad (Kari) Schmidt; three step-sisters, Joyce Fischer and Camilla (Jim) Kreis, both of West Bend, and Verla (August) Bilgo of Kewaskum; one sister-in-law, Florence Massey of Appleton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Clair Strean and one step-sister, Shirley Schloemer.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with Rev. James Hill of New Hope United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Washington County Memorial Park.
Visitation will be on Monday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until 1: 15 p.m.

Honore Gorman Neilsen
Honore Gorman Neilsen, (nee Walter), 84, of Glenview, Ill., formerly of West Bend, died April 19, 2000, eight years after being diagnosed with a dementia-related illness.
She was born in West Bend on June 7, 1915, to Katherine and Charles W. Walter.
She graduated from West Bend High School in 1933 and went on to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1939.
The same year she married Walter B. Neilsen Sr., of Muskegon, who died in 1964.
Honore Neilsen held several positions in the field of nursing including a teaching position on the faculty of the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis. On returning to live in West Bend in 1975, she took a position at Cedar Lake Home where she worked until her retirement. She was a volunteer with the Kettle Moraine Hospice Service and Meals-On-Wheels and was a member of Holy Angels Parish before moving to Glenview in 1989.
She is survived by daughters Mary Kay Pribyl of Glenview and Ellen Benway of Plymouth, Minn; two sons, Walter B. Neilsen-Steinhardt of Brookline, N.H. and Mark Neilsen of St. Louis. She was the sister of Winifred, Kathleen and Thomas Walter of West Bend and Elizabeth Berger of Green Bay. She had nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Charles W. Walter, Jr., of Eau Claire and Jane Weiss of Racine.
Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Church.

Bernard W. 'Ben' Ermer, 62
Bernard W. "Ben" Ermer, 62, of the town of Kewaskum, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 22, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.
He was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Horicon, to Lester and Myra (Hoepner) Ermer, and on June 25, 1960, married Phyllis Kurth at David's Star Lutheran Church, Jackson.
Mr. Ermer served his country in the U.S. Army and was employed by Regal Ware Inc., Kewaskum, for 36 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of the Regal Ware 25-Year Club and St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Myra Ermer of West Bend; three brothers, Harold of Elderon, John (Karen) of Eden and William (Elizabeth) of West Bend; his mother-in-law, Irene Kurth of Kewaskum; two sisters-in-law, LaNore (Herbert) Klumb of New London and Karen (Jake) Jacobs of Tomah; two brothers-in-law, Orville (Betty) Kurth of Waukesha and Roger (Sharone) Kurth of East Troy; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Preceding him in death were his father, Lester; his father-in-law, Wilbert Kurth; and a brother-in-law, Marvin Kurth.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kewaskum. Rev. Edwin Fredrich will officiate, and burial will follow in Lutheran Memorial Park, Kewaskum.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum.
Memorials may be given to St. Lucas Ev. Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.

George M. Bruendl, 87
George M. Bruendl, 87, of Kewaskum, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Fond du Lac.
He was born May 7, 1912 in Port Washington to the late John P. and Mary (nee Hansen) Bruendl. The family lived in Port Washington, Saukville and Little Kohler prior to moving onto a farm near Newburg in 1923.
He was married to Marcella Peters on May 22, 1935 at Holy Angels Church in West Bend and the couple settled in Newburg.
He was employed at Amity Leather Products for several years after which he and Marcella operated Bruendl Grocery Store in Newburg for 23 years. She died on May 3, 1976. On August 31, 1977, George married Ann Becker (nee Schaeffer) at Holy Hill. Afterward the couple settled in Kewaskum.
Survivors include his wife; one stepdaughter, Carol Ann (Del) Jones of Henderson, Nev.; sisters Florence Wollner and Lorraine Zimdars, both of West Bend; one brother, Alvin (Angeline) of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Angele Bruendl of West Bend; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were one brother, Viol (Carol); two brothers-in-law Victor Wollner and Earl Zimdars.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 25 with a Mass of Christian burial at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Kewaskum. Father Mark Jones will preside.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Washington County Memorial Park.
Visitation at the church only will be Tuesday from 4 to 6:45 p.m.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend is serving the family.

Joseph H. Jahn Jr., 60
Joseph H. Jahn Jr., 60, of West Bend, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at the Cedar Lake Home Campus.
He was born July 17, 1939, in Milwaukee, to the late Joseph Sr. and Philomina (nee Bartel) Jahn, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
After his marriage to Patricia A. Keller-Champagne on June 23, 1962, in Milwaukee, the couple lived in Wet Bend.
He was employed by Pepsi Cola of Milwaukee as an on premise manger for over 20 years, retiring in 1984.
At the time of his death he was the senior vice president of Jahn Industries of West Bend.
Survivors include his wife; six children, Kathleen (Duane) O'Leary and Tony Champagne, both of West Bend, Margret Jahn and Julie Jahn, both of Boston, Heidi (Galen) Kearney of New York and Christine Jahn-Cienfuegos of West Bend; 13 grandchildren, Jason and Erin Milligan, Ben, Kelly and Jamie O'Leary, Angela Moore-Champagne, Heather and Michael Champagne, Alexander, Nicolas and Francesca Jahn, Isabella Rogue and Hannah Jahn; a great-grandson, Austin Milligan-Kierzak two brothers, Robert (Judi) Jahn of New Jersey and Arnold (Catherine) Jahn of Sussex; two nieces, Jennifer and Lisa Jahn and a nephew, Brian Jahn, all of Sussex; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was a son, Joseph.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of West Bend, was the chaplain of the Masonic Lodge 38 of West Bend, the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and 32nd Degree York Rite.
Joseph was very active in many community services of West Bend and Washington County.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church of West Bend, with Father Patrick Wendt officiating. Interment will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
Visitation at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. and a prayer vigil at 8 p.m., and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Memorials are appreciated.

Robert Smith Jr., 52
Robert Smith Jr., 52, of Carrollton, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2000.
He was born Aug. 1, 1947, in West Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Hall Smith; two sons, Dustin and Casey; his mother, Dorothy Becker Smith; two brothers, Dennis and Donald Smith, and a sister, Sharon Jakobi.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 24, at 1 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Carrollton, Texas. Pastor Stephen Wagner officiated, and burial followed in Restland Memorial Park.
The Rhoton Funeral Home, Carrollton, served the family.

James F. Martin
James F. Martin, of West Bend, died Monday, April 17, 2000, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, at the age of 64.
He was born April 9, 1936, in Milwaukee, to the late Hilary and Catherine (nee Henger) Martin, and on May 30, 1959, married Harriet Knoeck at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, West Bend.
Jim worked as a tool and die repairman at the Gehl Co. until 1984 when he retired on disability.
He then worked part time as a custodian at Immaculate Conception Parish up to the time of his death.
Jim loved to camp, especially at Eagle Crest Campground in St. Germain. Another of his avocations was skiing, and he served as a member of the National Ski Patrol at Sunburst Ski Hill in Kewaskum until 1983 when he became disabled.
A member of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Parish for over 40 years, his beautiful tenor voice could be heard echoing from the choir loft on many Sundays and Holy Days.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Lorine Martin of Port Washington, Lisa (Chris) Stoffel of Kewaskum, Michael (Donna) of Sheboygan, Julie (Michael) Hoffman of West Bend and Susan Martin of Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Patricia, Catherine and Rachell Stoffel, Whitney, Olivia and Grace Hoffman and Robert and Andrea Martin; three sisters, Judy (Lee) Barwick of Campbellsport, Mary (Larry) Wohlwend of Maribel and Nancy (Jack) Gremminger of West Bend; two brothers, John (Florence) of Merton and Hillary of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Mary (John) Bartol of Hatley; a brother-in-law, John (Donna) Knoeck of West Bend; a special friend, Bruce Meier; other relatives and many friends.
Preceding him in death were a sister, Mary Catherine Martin, and his parents-in-law, John and Lorine Knoeck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 24 at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (meet at the church). Rev. Patrick Wendt will be the presider, and cremation will follow.
Visitation at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Thursday, April 20, from 4 p.m. until a prayer vigil service at 8:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Mary's Education Endowment Fund or to the Donated Health Services of Washington County.
