Ella A. Sigmund, 96
Ella A. Sigmund, nee Schmechel, 96, of West Bend, formerly of Rhinelander and Milwaukee, passed into God's hands on Sunday, May 21, 2000, at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center.
She was born Jan. 9, 2000, in Milwaukee, to the late Fridrich and Louisa (nee Nussloch) Schmechel, and married Edgar Sigmund on June 29, 1929, in Milwaukee.
She was the loving mother of Charlotte (Howard) Holzman, the late Charles (Janice) Sigmund, Carol (George) Johnston and Janice (Bruce) Harris; dear grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband; a son, Charles; a grandson, Kurt; two sisters, Lillian and Louise; and a brother, Joseph.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 24, at 3 p.m. at the Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, West Bend. Pastor William Dushek will officiate, and interment will be in Newbold Cemetery, town of Newbold, at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Visitation at the church only will be Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials are appreciated.

James E. Deakin, 89
James E. Deakin, 89, a resident of the Samaritan Health Center, West Bend, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.
He was born on Oct. 20, 1910, in Omaha, Neb., to the late William E. and Mary Rachael (Molly Kelly) Deakin.
In 1926 he graduated from Omaha North High School and received a math degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg in 1932.
He was employed by the Federal Land Bank in Omaha until 1946 and then moved to the Chicago area where he resided until moving to the Samaritan in 1997.
In 1964 he married Ella Smith in Chicago.
Survivors include a niece, Margaret (Pat) McFadden of Kewaskum; two stepchildren, Lynea Gordon and Dwight Smith, both of Chicago; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his wife; a sister, Dorothy Meents; a brother, Dr. Thomas Deakin; and a niece, Dr. Mariel Muir.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Peace United Church of Christ, Kewaskum, with Rev. Eric Kirkegaard officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials to the Samaritan Health Center are appreciated.
The Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, is serving the family.

Cheryle A. Marx
Cheryle A. Marx of Friday Harbor, Wash., formerly of West Bend, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2000. She was 42 years old.
She was born on April 27, 1958, in Hartford, to Ralph and Linda (nee Harris) Marx.
Cheryle was raised in the West Bend area. She moved to Friday Harbor in 1984, where she was a waitress and bartender for over 15 years.
She is survived by four sisters, Deborah Marx, Penny Marx and Julie (Daniel) Ketter, all of Campbellsport and Jenna (John) Wood of Fond du Lac; one brother, John Marx of Naples, Fla.; one favorite aunt, Pat (Ron) Schmidt of Slinger; two uncles, Chuck (Beverly) Harris of Elm Grove and Jeff Harris of Milwaukee. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Christina Marx.
Visitation will be held at The Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend on Thursday, May 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home with Pastor Victor Hackbarth officiating. Cremation will take place at Parkview Cremations of Fond du Lac.

Robert L. Raschka
Robert L. Raschka of Green Bay died on Tuesday, May 16, 2000. He was 63 years old.
He taught in the Green Bay school system for many years. Through the years, he taught at Fort Howard, Norwood and Beaumont Elementary schools.
Robert will be sadly missed by his wife, Joan; his children, JoLee (Dan) Ellingson, James (Kary) Raschka, and Jennifer Raschka; one grandson, Jamie Ellingson; sisters, Mary (Charles) Sackett and Betty (Chip) Greve; a brother, Henry Raschka; nieces and nephews.
Respecting Mr. Raschka's wishes, private services were held at West Mason Malcore Funeral Home.
A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in his memory.

Joseph A. Kuzniewicz
Joseph A. Kuzniewicz passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2000 at Meriter Hospital in Madison. He was 63 years old.
He was born March 2, 1937, in Beaver Dam, to Joseph Z. and Evelyn Kuzniewicz. He married Ruth Flenner on March 12, 1960 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Beaver Dam.
Joe worked at Weinberg Shoe Company in Beaver Dam for 17 years and also at MaySteel and Metal Fab in Beaver Dam for many years. He served his country in the US Navy with the Seabees.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (nee Flenner); daughters, Mari Ganske of West Allis, Amy (Mark) Memmel of Pewaukee, Becky (Chris) Justmann of Juneau, and Wendy (Brian) Smedema of Juneau; seven grandchildren, Daniele Worden, Dustin and Dana Ganske, Nicole Brandon; Christopher Justmann and Brenna Smedema; father, Joseph Z. Kuzniewicz of Beaver Dam; brother, John (Karla) Kuzniewicz and sister Helen Rahn, both of Beaver Dam. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary; his grandson; his mother, Evelyn, and his brother, Alfred.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 19 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Juneau. Visitation took place at the church from 5 p.m. until the time of service. Private Interment.
The Berndt Funeral Home is serving the family.

Grace Emily Klein
Grace Emily Klein, an infant, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2000 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.
She was born on May 16, 2000 in Oconomowoc to David and Keri (nee Ireton) Klein of Watertown.
Grace is survived by her parents; grandparents, Nancy Ireton of Hartford, Brad Ireton of Menomonee Falls, Sally (John) Wirkus of Johnson Creek, and Terry Klein of Milwaukee; and great grandparents Ethel Klein of Milwaukee and Don and Pat Kaufmann of Watertown.
She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandfather.
Visitation was held at Pederson Funeral Home of Watertown on Sunday, May 21 after 1 p.m. until the time of service.
Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bernard E. Rott of St. Henry's Catholic Church, Watertown officiating.
Burial at St. Henry's Catholic Cemetery, Watertown.
Memorials to the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Lester Kissel
Lester Kissel passed away on April 21, 2000 at the age of 97.
He was the son of the late Adolph and Lilian (nee Schuppert) Kissel, and a retired partner of the law firm of Seward & Kissel, LLP.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1925, attended the University of Geneva, Switzerland in 1926 and 1927, and graduated from Harvard Law School in 1931.
Survivors include his wife Alice Fordryce MacRae Kissel, son Stephen and sister Elizabeth Kissel Schultz.
He was preceded in death by brothers Orville, Milton and James.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Thomas M. Gehl
Thomas M. Gehl of Racine passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was 48 years old.
He was born in Hustisford on June 24, 1951 to Dorothy and the late Roland Gehl.
He had lived in Racine for the last 28 years.
He married the former Cynthia Sabby on Aug. 28, 1998 in Racine.
He had been a Racine County Deputy Sheriff for 27 years.
He was a member of the Atonement Lutheran Church and was an official for Boone and Crockett/Pope and Young and Wisconsin Bear and Buck.
Tom is survived by his wife, Cynthia; his son, Evan; his mother and step-father, Dorothy and Elmer Sauter of Hartford; and one sister, Patricia (David) Olofson of Fond du Lac. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roland, and a brother, Danny.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 22 at 10 a.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church with Rev. Warren Williams officiating.
Interment followed at West Lawn Memorial Park. Friends met with the family on Sunday, May 21 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, Racine.

Sally June Buerger
Sally June Buerger of Woodland passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at Hartford Memorial Hospital. She was 69 years old.
She was born May 16, 1931 in Munising, Mich. to Clinton and Mildred Smart. She married Elmer Buerger on Oct. 6, 1951 at Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford.
Sally was a past employee of Kastern Manufacturing and, currently, a bookkeeper at Zuern Building Products in Allenton. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church for 48 years.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer Buerger of Woodland; her daughter, Christine (Conrad) Wild of Woodland; her son, David Buerger of Woodland; two granddaughters, Marie and Tracy Wild; her mother, Mildred Smart of Manistique, Mich.; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clinton Smart.
Visitation was held on Sunday, May 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Hartford. Funeral services followed at 7 p.m. with Rev. Jon Tesch officiating. Interment took place on Monday, May 22 at St. John's Cemetery, Woodland.
The Berndt Funeral Home is serving the family.
