Robert E. Churchill, 82
Robert E. Churchill of West Bend, died Thursday, June 1, 2000 at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital, West Bend at the age of 82.
He was born on Aug. 19, 1917 in Sparta to the late Edward and Mabel Churchill. He married Dorothy Davis in 1937 in Sparta and they lived in Mather until moving to Milwaukee in the 1940s. Dorothy passed away in May, 1976 and Robert then married Marjorie Mutcher (nee Rapske) on Jan. 3, 1976 at Redemption Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They continued to live in Milwaukee until moving to West Bend in April, 2000. Robert was employed as a welder and semi-truck driver for the Heil Company in Milwaukee for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He loved motorcycles and racing and was a member of the Milwaukee Motorcycle Club. He also enjoyed golfing and playing pool.
He is survived by hs wife, Marjorie; a son, Ronald (Carol) Churchill of Warrens; five step-children, Sandra Michaud of Germantown, Jeri Schroeder of Sussex, Jackie (Robert) Rodefer of Shawano, Al (Jan) Mutcher of Oconto Falls and Scott Mutcher of Phoenix, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister in infancy and two other sisters, Ruby Connely and Dorothy Wyman.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday June 4 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Highway Z and German Village Road, West Bend. The Rev. Paul Reede will officiate and the cremation will follow with burial of the cremated remains in Warrens Mills Cemetery in Warrens.
Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend is serving the family.

Carl August Lookman, 82
Carl August Lookman of Cape Caneveral Fla. died Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at National Health Care, Merritt Island, Fla. He was 82 years old.
He was born March 23, 1918 to Charles and Clara (nee Weiss) Lookman, and married Adeline Kehrmeyer on Oct. 18, 1941 in LeRoy, Wis.
He was a retired dairy farmer and former town of Hubbard supervisor from Dodge County. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Woodland.
Survivors include his wife, Adeline of Cape Caneveral Fla.; three daughters, Marlene (Carl) Wegner, West Bend, Jane Feggestad, Delafield and Connie (Stanley) Nickel of Campbellsport; one sister, Anita Boese of Fond du Lac; sister-in-law, Elda Lookman of Mayville; ten grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Carl Jr. in 1974 and his brothers, Walter and Harold.
A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Woodland will take place on Tuesday, June 6 at 2 p.m. Fr. Russel Stommel will officiate. Visitation will be at St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday from noon until the hour of service. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mayville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Brevard County Alzheimers Foundation Association Inc., Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Wisconsin Association of M.A.D.D.
Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville is serving the family.

Sister Maris Stella Shea
Sister Maris Stella Shea, a member of the religious order of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, died May 26, 2000 at St. Camillus Health Center in Milwaukee at the age of 90.
Her Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 30 in Holy Family Chapel at Notre Dame of Elm Grove. Burial was at the convent cemetery.
A native of Chicago, Sister Maris was born April 7, 1910, and was baptized Eleanore Anne Shea. Her father, John Joseph Shea, was born in Yorkshire, England, and worked as a motorman for Chicago Surface Lines. Her mother, Ella (nee Cunningham) Shea, was from Pennsylvania.
Sister Maris made her first profession of faith as a School Sister of Notre Dame on Aug. 6, 1931, and served the order for almost 69 years.
She began her career as an educator in Ozaukee County, as an English and speech teacher in the upper grades of St. Mary Catholic School in Port Washington. Subsequent teaching posts were in at St. Luke in Gary, Ind., St. Margaret and the Academy of Our Lady, both in Chicago, St. Mary in Menasha and St. Mary Academy in Prairie du Chien. Sister Maris also taught at the old Caroline Academy in Mequon from 1959-’61.
In 1961, she began 30 years of service at Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, first as director of admissions and then as director of the alumnae office. She also started the college’s archives, a job that required collecting, sorting and storing historical documents of the school.
Sister Maris retired in 1991, living at Notre Dame of Elm Grove, and then moving to St. Camillus Health Center in 1998.
She is survived by her cousin, Margaret Mary Sweeney, other relatives and friends.
Memorials to the SSND Retirement Fund would be appreciated.

Edward Schaeffer, 89
Funeral services will be held this morning at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cedarburg, for Edward Schaeffer, 89, who died June 1, 2000 at his Saukville home.
Visitation will be at the church, located at N65 W6503 Cleveland Ave., from 9 a.m., with Rev. Randolph Raasch officiating at the 11 a.m. service. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, West Bend. Arrangements are being handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton.
Mr. Schaeffer was born in Farmington on Dec. 29, 1910, son of Anthony and Catherine (nee Beres) Schaeffer. He married Ruth Strack on June 3, 1953 at St. Mary’s Church in Cascade.
Mr. Schaeffer worked as a painter for May Steel before retiring. He was also a member of First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Schaeffer of Saukville; daughters Carol Sonneman and Marcia (Jack) Widucki, both of Sheboygan; sisters Ann Brindel of Kewaskum, Rose Gross of Port Washington, Marie (Clarence) Albinger of Saukville and Elanor Herriges of West Bend; brother John (Florence) Schaeffer of Waukesha; grandchildren Jennifer L. Widucki and Wayne E. Sonneman, both of Sheboygan; other relatives and friends.
Memorials to First Immanuel Lutheran Church would be appreciated.

Roland H. Rate, 86
Roland H. Rate of West Bend died Friday, June 2, 2000 at St. Joseph's Community Hospital. He was 86 years old.
He was born June 6, 1913 to Edward and Rose (nee Buddenhagen) Rate in Kewaskum, and married Mary J. Kejwan-Czaja June 14, 1980 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Kewaskum.
He was born and raised in the town of Addison and was a farmer in the towns of Addison and Wayne. He married his first wife, Marie Behlke on May 10, 1939 at Holy Trinity. She preceded him in death on May 30, 1979.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of West Bend and an honorary member of the Kohlsville Fire Department.
He will be remembered for his young-at-heart attitude.
He is survived by his second wife, Mary; two sons, Gerald (Mary Kay) Rate of the town of Addison and Frederick (Marie) Rate of Slinger; nine step-children, Diane (Jerome) Spaeth of West Bend, Richard (Mary) Czaja of Pittsville, Wis., Sister Mary Ann Czaja of Tarboro, N.C., Edward (Charmain) Czaja of Ogdensburg, Wis., Joanne (Perry) Koth of Kewaskum, Susan (Peter) Checki of Oshkosh, Luann (Dr. Kevin) Dunn of Brookfield and Roseann Czaja of Eau Claire; Sister Erna (Otto) Kohl of Kohlsville; sister-in-law Grace Rate of Addison; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, 23 step-grandchildren, nine, step-great grandchildren, nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a brother, Marvin and one step-daughter-in-law, Lisa.
Funeral services were Monday, June 5 at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Bend with Pastor James Ziesemer and Pastor John Paustian officiating.
Interment followed the service in St. Anthony Cemetery, town of Addison.
Memorials to Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church are appreciated.
The Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend assisted the family.

Agnes Schaefer, 87
Agnes Schaefer, nee Meilahn, 87, of Kewaskum, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2000, at her home.
She was born Sept. 13, 1912, in the town of Kewaskum, to the late Carl and Amanda (Kuecker) Meilahn, and on Oct. 13, 1934, married Raymond Schaefer at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kewaskum.
Mrs. Schaefer was a member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kewaskum, and the St. Lucas Ladies Aid. She was the co-founder of the Kewaskum 4-H Club, was a member of the Kewaskum Woman's Club and was a founder of the AFS Kewaskum Chapter.
Survivors include her husband; three children, David (Cathy) of Kewaskum, Dan (Gail) of Madison and Audray (Ernest) Wiesen of Rocky River, Ohio; six grandchildren, Sandra Schaefer, Beth (Bert) Falak, Jeremy Schaefer, Mary Schaefer, Rachel Anderson and Erica (Aaron) Horning; three great-grandchildren, Charles Horning, Janae and Joelle Anderson; other relatives and many friends.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Henry and Carl, and three sisters, Alpha Schaefer, Amanda Firme and an infant sister, Erna.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kewaskum. Rev. Timothy Henning will officiate, and burial will follow in Lutheran Memorial Park, Kewaskum.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. on Monday at the Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Lucas Ladies Aid or the Washington County 4-H.

Billie Johnson, 75
Billie Johnson, nee Anderson, of West Bend, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Wauwatosa, at the age of 75.
She was born April 20, 1925, in Green Bay, to the late Edward and Agnes (nee Hermes) Anderson, and married Eldred Johnson on May 1, 1947, at St. Patrick's Church in Green Bay.
She worked as a real estate agent for many years and loved crafts and dogs.
She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend.
Billie was the beloved wife of Eldred; loving mother of Gregg (Jan) of Granger, Ind., Erin (John Voss of Herndon, Va., Jeff (Kendra) of Sheboygan and Kevin (Carrie) of Germantown; loving grandmother of Scott (Shannon) Johnson, Chad (Heather) Johnson, Eric Voss, Jason Voss, Carrie Voss, Spencer Johnson, Stacy Johnson, Ashley Johnson and Courtney, Johnson; loving great-grandmother of Kelsey and Reiley Johnson; dear sister of Virginia (Gene) Barden of Madison; dear sister-in-law of Erin Peterson, Jean Johnson and Ralph (Gwen) Johnson. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a brother, Edward, and two brothers-in-law, Doug Johnson and Ralph Peterson.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, June 6, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend. Rev. Jerry Repenshek will be the presider and burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery, West Bend.
Visitation at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m.

Norma Jean Steuck
Norma Jean Steuck (nee Brandau) of Hustisford passed away in Watertown on Sunday, June 4, 2000. She was 73 years old.
She was born in Wellington, Wis. on Feb. 1, 1927 to Rudolph and Anna Brandau. She married Ellsworth Steuck on Dec. 23, 1944 at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church in Southridge, Wis.
Norma Jean was a past president of Hustisford American Legion Auxiliary Post #420, a retiree from Medallist Leitzke's Manufacturing and a long time member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran in Hustisford.
She is survived by her daughters, Georgia Jean (Fred) Schreiber of Hustisford and Cindy (Bernie) Fitzsimmons of Watertown. She is the loving grandmother of Chad Schreiber of Iron Ridge, Charity (David) Grulke of Juneau, Chanda (Shannon) Mueller of Hustisford, Challi (Josh) Kieckhefer Cade Schreiber of Hustisford, Calon Schreiber of Hustisford, Sadie Fitzsimmons of Watertown and Seth Fitzsimmons of Watertown; loving great-grandma of Brady, Britley, Taylor and Halle. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Alice) Brandau of Wilton, Wis. as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, who died in 1979.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church in Hustisford and Friday, June 9 from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Timothy W. Bauer officiating. Interment at Hustisford Cemetery.
The Berndt Funeral Home is serving the family.
