Henry Retzlaff Sr., 98
A funeral service was held on Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg for Henry Retzlaff Sr., 98, who died on June 17, 2000. Burial was held at Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg; Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Retzlaff was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg, where he sang with the choir, participated in the dartball league and served on the Church Council. He also was a member of the Cedarburg Board of Appeals and was the director and president of the former Cedarburg Supply Co.
He was a lifelong farmer and he established the Retzlaff Farms in 1924. He delivered his last calf at the age of 92. He continued to husk corn and sell his homegrown vegetables after retirement.
Survivors include: daughter Ruth (late Delwin) Hintz; son Henry (Joan) Retzlaff Jr.; grandchildren Lori, Julie and Kathy Retzlaff of Cedarburg, Dan Hintz of Neosho, Susan (Roger) Endres of Hartford and Sara (Paul) Beine of Rubicon; great-grandchildren Adam, Carlten and Michael Endres, all of Hartford.
Further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Viola (nee Riebe) Retzlaff.
Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Ozaukee County 4-H Foundation would be appreciated.

Herbert Prom, 77
A funeral service was held Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for Herbert Prom, 77, who died on June 15, 2000.
Fr. Mike Barrett officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton.
Burial was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Grafton.
Mr. Prom was born April 7, 1923 in Port Washington, son of Nicholas and Barbara (nee Schueller) Prom.
He married Kathleen Arentz on April 10, 1948 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grafton.
He served in the Army during WWII.
Mr. Prom worked for Bolens as a machinist for 20 years.
Survivors include: wife Kathleen Prom of Grafton; sons Jerry (Judy) Prom of Saukville and Tom Prom of Grafton; daughters Carol Kluz and Colleen (Michael) Estel, both of Grafton; brothers Bill (Mildred) Prom of Port Washington, Arnold (Shirley) Prom of Cedarburg and Ralph (Kathy) Prom of Grafton; grandchildren Jim (Shelia) Prom of Liberty, Mo., Penny Prom of Saukville, Jason Kluz of Grafton and Karri Estel of Grafton; great-grandson Jeremy Prom of Liberty, Mo.; sisters-in-law Delores Prom of Port Washington and Harriet Prom of Saukville.
Further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by brothers Marvin and Clarence.
Memorials to St. Joseph’s Building Fund are appreciated.

Ruth M. Murphy, 86
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Lasata Care Center for Ruth M. Murphy, 86, who died on June 17, 2000.
Burial was held at Resurrection Cemetery.
Church and Chapel Funeral Service assisted the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Murphy was a member of Divine Word Parish in Cedarburg and past member of the Waukesha Doll Club and the Cedarburg Woman’s Club.
She retired from the Milwaukee County Medical Society where she served as executive assistant to the executive director.
Survivors include: husband Cecil G. Murphy; daughter Marianne (John) Bolinski; granddaughter Brianna Bolinski.
Further survived by other relatives and friends.
Memorials to the Cedarburg Library or Family Sharing of Ozaukee County are appreciated.

LaVerne L. Carriveau, 84
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for LaVerne L. Carriveau, 84, who died on June 18, 2000. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Fr. Mike Barrett will officiate at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton. Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Grafton.
Mrs. Carriveau was born Sept. 22, 1915 in Canton, daughter of Anton and Katherine (nee Blum) Livingston. She married Francis Carriveau and was the owner and operator of a restaurant and gift shop.
Survivors include: daughters Barbara (Harvey) Zacher of Grafton and Donna (Lester) Maechtle of Port Washington; son Lon (Jane) Carriveau of Cedarburg; brother Elmer (Shirley) Livingston of Grafton; grandchildren Tod (Kathy) Zacher of West Bend, Tracy (Bill) Johannes of Fredonia, Shad Maechtle of Taiwan, Shawn Maechtle of Milwaukee, Scott Maechtle of Belgium, Yvonne (Joel) Wheaton of Port Washington and Cindy (Michael) Olsen of Escanaba, Mich.; brother-in-law Clarence Carriveau of Wisconsin Rapids; sisters-in-law Ruth Carriveau of Green Bay and Doris Carriveau of Franklin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Francis.

Alex M. Estes, 10
Alex M. Estes, 10, of the town of West Bend, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Children's Hospital of Milwaukee.
He was born June 11, 1990, in West Bend, to John and Julie (Kallenbach) Estes, and attended Allenton Elementary School, going into the fifth grade.
Alex was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Slinger, the Cub Scouts, Little League and played soccer.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Michael Gould of 29 Palms, Calif. and Tyler Estes of West Bend; maternal grandparents, Elton and Rose Kallenbach of Niagra, Wis.; paternal grandparents, Jerry Estes of Chicago, Ill. and Carol Estes of Las Vegas, Nev.; paternal great-grandmother Mary Boardman of Chicago, Ill.; maternal great-grandmother, Ann Zumerling of Las Vegas, Nev.; aunts, uncles cousins, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his paternal great-grandfather and maternal great-grandfather.
Visitation at the Phillip Funeral Home, Slinger, will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 6 p.m.
Closing of the casket prayers will be held Saturday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Slinger.
Father Robert J. Bales will officiate, and interment will follow in the new St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Slinger.
Memorials are appreciated.

Erwin O. Hahn, 95
Erwin O. Hahn, formerly of Hartford, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2000, at the Beechwood Rest Home in Kewaskum. He was 95.
He was born in Huilsburg on March 1, 1905, to the late Christ and Emma (nee Uber) Hahn, and on Nov. 10, 1931, married Ann Schaefer at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Hartford.
He was a volunteer driver for the Red Cross for many years and enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary (Don) Mehringer of Arizona and Joyce Fechter of Kewaskum; 12 grandchildren, Keneth (Lynn) Mehringer of Johnson Creek, Dan Mehringer of Arizona, Diane (John) Starits of Arizona, Joanne (Robert) Todd of Waterloo, Ronald (April) Mehringer of Arizona, Janet Schommer of West Bend, Dennis (Theresa) Fechter of Kewaskum, David (Lana) Fechter of West Bend, Judy (Gary) Hahn of Adell, Dean (Jackie) Fechter of West Bend, Jean (Bernd) van Vorshelen of Kewaskum and Jane Muench of Campbellsport; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Irene Buntrock, Eleanor Alton and Betty Kress, all of Hartford; two sisters-in-law, Till Hanrahan of Milwaukee and Dorothy Heppe of Slinger; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a grandson, Jon Mehringer; two brothers, Herbert and Arthur; and three sisters, Hilda, Rolinda and Emily.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 21, at 7 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, Hartford, with Rev. Edward Freese officiating.
The family greeted relatives and friends on Wednesday at the church from 4 to 7 p.m.
Interment was in St. Kilian's Cemetery.
Memorials to St. John's United Church of Christ are appreciated.
The Shimon Funeral Home assisted the family.

Gertrude K. Welzien, 77
Funeral services were held Friday at Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton, for Gertrude K. Welzien, 77, who died June 20, 2000 at her Grafton home.
Services were led by Father Mike Barrett.
Mrs. Welzien was born in Westfield, Mass. on March 9, 1923, daughter of the late Issac and Mary Frances (nee Johnson) Kallio.
She worked as a packaging supervisor for Fromm Laboratories.
Her passion was bowling, competing in many leagues at the Grafton Bowl and Circle B recreation center.
An active member of the Grafton Senior Center, Mrs. Welzien was a participant in the Discuss and Discover program and also played bocci ball.
Survivors include daughters Connie Nimmons and Peggy (Robert) Wolff of Wausau; son Thomas Welzien of Brookfield; grandchild Abbe Wolff of Wausau; cousins Richard (Mary Ellen) Walsh of Connecticut and Sally Ann Allen of California; nephews Thomas (Melonie), Richard (Kate) and Kevin (Linda) Boyer, all of Georgia, and Craig Boyer of Massachusetts; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mabel Boyer.

Richard A. Thomas, 58
Funeral services will be held this evening at Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton, for Richard A. Thomas, 58, who died June 22, 2000 at his Grafton Home.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 p.m., with the funeral at 7 p.m.
Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Grafton.
Mr. Thomas was born in Milwaukee on Jan. 11, 1942, son of Albert and Lucille (nee Budish) Thomas.
He worked as a machinist at Johnson Brass.
Survivors include his parents, Albert and Lucille Thomas of Port Washington; daughter Connie (Jeff) Jones of Sheboygan Falls; sister Sue Thomas of Port Washington; grandchildren Samantha, Crystal and Paige Jones, all of Sheboygan Falls; nephew Joe Wisler of Port Washington; nieces Debbie (Mike) Kalusche of Cudahy and Amy (fiance Tony) Wisler of Germantown; other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated.

Shirley R. Faris, 70
Services were held Friday evening at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, Fond du Lac, for Shirley R. Faris, 70, a former Cedarburg resident who died June 20, 2000 at her home in rural Fond du Lac County.
Services were led by Rev. Douglas Hedman, followed by cremation.
Mrs. Faris was the daughter of Alton and Louise (nee Winterhack) Jenks, born Jan. 3, 1930 in Milwaukee.
She married William James Faris on May 1, 1954 in West Allis.
Mrs. Faris graduated from Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, and also attended the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music.
She was a secretary at the city clerk’s office in West Allis for 10 years, and then worked as a district manager for Evenson Hallmark.
An accomplished piano player, Mrs. Faris also enjoyed traveling and visiting lighthouses. She was a member of Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, and a member of its Ruth Circle.
Survivors include her husband, William James Faris of Fond du Lac; sons Jeff (Debra) Faris of Grafton and Dale (Pamelia) Faris of Brillion; daughter Diane (James) Soda of Oshkosh; grandchildren Shawn, Jennifer, Adam, Brianne, Cory, Christopher and Justin; step-grandchildren Heather, Dezaray, Samantha and Nicholas; sister Dolores (Joseph) Schmidt of West Allis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dr. David and Jean Lawrence of Fond du Lac; other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to support Alzheimer’s research would be appreciated.
