Leonard W. Engel
Funeral services will be held today for Leonard W. Engel, 71, who died June 25, 2000 at his Jackson home.
Visitation will be at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church on Pleasant Valley Road in Jackson from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. service, with Rev. Kenneth Schmidt presiding. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Milwaukee. Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Engel was born in Brillion, Wis. on Sept. 30, 1928, son of the late George and Alma (nee Maile) Engel. He married Arleen Stiewe, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Engel was a former teacher at Trinity Lutheran School in Jackson, and attended Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include daughters Patricia Engel of Laurel, Md., Phyllis (Jeffery) Halter of Roswell, Ga. and Barbara Engel of Sussex; sister Verna Minzlaff of Marinette; grandchildren Jeffery Jr. and Heather Halter, both of Roswell, Ga., and Brittany Sturtz of Fond du Lac; other relatives and friends.
Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church or Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School would be appreciated.

Harold C. Krueger, 73
Harold C. Krueger, 73, of the town of Auburn, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2000, at his home.
He was born Feb. 12, 1927, in the town of Auburn, to the late Albert and Adela (Deckliver) Krueger, and on Sept. 1, 1956, married Vernell Schacht at St. John Lutheran Church, New Fane.
Mr. Krueger was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane, and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by the Department of Natural Resources.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael (Faith) of Campbellsport; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Sarah Krueger; a sister, Ruth Kempf of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, at St. John Lutheran Church, New Fane. Rev. Mark Eckert will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials to St. John Lutheran Church New Building Fund are appreciated.
The Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, is serving the family.

Keith E. MacFarlane, 69
Keith E. MacFarlane, 69, of Lomira, formerly of West Bend, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 23, 1930, in West Bend, to the late George and Sylvia (nee mcCauley), and graduated from West Bend High School.
On Aug. 13, 1954, he married Annette H. Williams in Nisland, S.D.
Keith served 16 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed with Civil Service as a crash/rescue firefighter at Mitchell International Airport, and was also employed at Lauters in Grafton in retail sales and at West Bend Builders Supply until retiring.
The couple enjoyed traveling throughout the Continental U.S. full time during the past four years.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Debbie (Arnold) Puestow, Judy (Joseph) Bohlen, Lynette Bruemmer and Dianne (Christopher) MacNeill; eight grandchildren, Jeff and Amy Puestow, Samantha and Kade Bohlen, Randy Mapes, Travis and Jonathan Bruemmer and Nicholas MacNeill; a brother, Kenneth R.; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; other relatives, and many, many friends.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Delmer, and a sister, Marguerite Ebert.
He was a member of the American Legion #36 of West Bend, Disabled American Veterans, Fountain Lakes Board member, Good Sams Club of Wisconsin and Fifth Avenue Methodist Church of West Bend.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 3, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend. Pastor Verlin Wandrey will officiate, and cremation will take place at Parkview Cremations of Fond du Lac with inurnment Thursday, July 6 at 10 a.m. in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Monday from 3 to 7 p.m.
Memorials to St. Agnes Hospice of Fond du Lac are appreciated.

Fr. Raymond W. Peters, 79
Father Raymond W. Peters, 79, of Fond du Lac, formerly of La Crosse, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at the Harbor Haven Nursing Home in Fond du Lac.
He was born Nov. 5, 1920, in the town of Polk to the late Henry and Theresa (nee Melder) Peters.
On Sept. 26, 1947, he was ordained at St. Joseph's Cathedral in La Crosse and said his First Solemn Mass on Oct. 5, 1947, at Holy Angels Church.
Fr. Ray was a priest of the La Crosse Diocese and served there in a number of parishes.
He loved to travel, going to Rome in 1950, and the Holy Land in 1993. His life-long hobby was beekeeping.
Survivors include eight brothers and sisters, Dorothy (Norbert) Baumann of Colville, Wash., Donald (Harriet) of Theresa, Genevieve Wiedmeyer and Lillian (Anthony) Ritger, both of Allenton, Aloys (Edna) of West Bend, Edmund of Ripon, Francis (Rita) of West Bend and Henrietta (Joseph) Schnitzler of Theresa; two aunts, Marie Melder and Adelia (Sylvester) Spaeth, both of West Bend; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a sister, Marie Wiedmeyer and two brothers-in-law, Edward Wiedmeyer and Gregory Wiedmeyer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend. Rev. Michael J. Gorman, secretary to Bishop Raymond L. Burke of La Crosse, will be the presider, and burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Visitation at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Sunday from 6 p.m. until a prayer vigil at 8 p.m., and also Monday at the church only from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Masses or memorials to the charity of the donor's choice are appreciated.

Mr. Ralph Struebing
Mr. Ralph Struebing, 56, of Kewaskum passed away on Friday, June 30, 2000, at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital in West Bend.
He was born on April 13, 1944 in West Bend, the son of the late Wilmer and Esther (nee Campbell) Struebing and on Dec. 30, 1967, he was united in marriage to Carolyn "Carrie" Stiefel at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum.
Ralph was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum and served his country in the United States Navy from 1961-64. He was employed by Serigraph Inc. in West Bend for 28 years where he most recently held the position of superintendent. He was a member of the Moose Lodge West Bend 1398 and the Thursday AM Sunrisers Bowling League.
Ralph loved his Shawano Lake retreat and was an avid hunter, fisherman, a first-class Packer fan and race fan.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Kewaskum; two children, Steven (fiancee Colette Hansen) of Kewaskum and Wendy (James) Carroll of Campbellsport; two grandsons, Steve Thomas Hansen and Orion Carroll; a grandson, James Ralph Carroll, to be born; a brother, Robert (Joan) Struebing of Campbellsport; a sister, Rosemary (Eugene) Seibel of Sheboygan Falls; his mother-in-law, Olivia Stiefel of Tripp, S.D.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by two nephews Jeff Struebing and Douglas Stiefel; his father-in-law, Arthur Stiefel; a grandson, Michael Carroll; a brother-in-law Ronald Stiefel and a good friend, Mike Duenkel.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum with a Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. Father Mark Jones will officiate and burial with military graveside rites will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Peter’s Cemetery in the town of Trenton.
Friends may call from 3 p.m until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Clarence M. Schemenauer Sr.
Clarence M. Schemenauer Sr. of St. Lawrence passed away on Friday, June 30, 2000 at the Memonomee Falls Health Care Center. He was 84.
He was born Sept. 23, 1915 in the town of West Bend to Joseph and Susan (nee Korneli) Schemenauer. He married Lucille Peters on June 7, 1938 at Holy Angels Church in West Bend.
Clarence was a well-known plumber in the St. Lawrence area. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose #1398. His hobbies were his grandchildren, apple trees, traveling and concertina.
He is survived by two daughters, Eileen (Norvin) Lehman of Slinger and Dianne (Ralph) Wiedmeyer of Big Cedar Lake; two sons, Joe (Barbara) of Hartford and Clarence, Jr. (Karen) Schemenauer of Slinger; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; special friend, Elise Marcy of Slinger; two sisters, Bernice (Dick) Rose of St. Anthony and Deloris Wolf of Cedar Lake; three sisters-in-law, Angeline Koepke of Kewaskum, Loretta Peters of Horicon and Virginia Schemenauer of West Bend; brother-in-law, Harold Schaefer of Milwaukee; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille, on June 7, 1975; brother, Sylvester; two sisters, Cecelia and Ruth; and step-grandchild, Todd.
Funeral services will be on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, with Rev. Verlin Wandrey officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends Sunday at the funeral home from 3-7:30 p.m. Interment will be at Washington County Cemetery, West Bend.
Shimon Funeral Home is assisting the family.

James R. "Jimmy" Mercado
James R. "Jimmy" Mercado of Slinger died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee at the age of 70.
The American Dream
On July 10, 1930, Jimmy was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico. As he grew older, James had a dream: an American dream. A dream to move to the United States and build a better life for himself.
When Jimmy turned 20, he bought a plane ticked to the U.S. He landed a job in Flint, Mich., in pursuit of that dream. A few years later, he met Nancy Bos. They soon married and brought three beautiful children into the world. They purchased a home in Slinger in the summer of 1970.
Just 20 years later, our dad was living the American dream. Jimmy always put his family first. He was a devoted father and a loving husband. Jimmy accepted Jesus as a Savior and was a dedicated member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in West Bend. He was a wonderful, loving, caring and tenderhearted Christian man. A man whose cup of compassion never ran out.
Jimmy Mercado sought the American dream and he lived it. A true patriotic American who went to be with the Lord Jesus on July 30.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy, of Slinger; three children, Marilou (David) Schoessow-Mercado of West Bend, James (Cheri) of Pewaukee and Joe Louis (DeAnn) of Madison; three grandchildren, Ellie, Holly and Vanessa; and a grandson to be Johnathan.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Calvary Assembly of God in West Bend with Rev. Mark Elliot officiating. Burial will be Monday in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday at the church only from 3 p.m. until the time of services.
The family would like to express its gratitude to the I.C.U. nursing staff at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital in West Bend. Their compassion, kindness and gentle care comforted our dad during his final moments. Thank you.

Martha M. Volz
Martha M. Volz, 90, a former Campbellsport resident, died Saturday July 1, 2000 at All About Life Rehabilitation Center, Fond du Lac, where she resided the last number of years.
She was born in Waucousta on Sept. 21, 1909, the daughter of Fredrick and Anna Galabinske Buslaff. She married Joseph Volz o May 2, 1928 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, the Christian Women and the Campbellsport Senior Citizens.
Survivors include her children, Bernice Karoses of Kewaskum, Delores (John) Peters of West Bend and Donald (Theresa) of Dillon Colo.; her daughter-in-law, Diana Volz of Campbellsport; her grandchildren, Judy, Joseph, Jeffrey, Jean, Jack, Jane, Janis, Janene, Jay, Debbie, Beth, Roger, Cathy, Wendy, Laurie, Steve, Sue, Doug, Jennie, Mike, Tim, Shelly and Dawn; her great-grandchildren, Lynn, Carrie, Joe, Justin, Jill, Nicki, Valerie, Sarah, Lindsay, Brian, Robbie, Chad, Casey, Cody, Bradley, Ashlee, Joshua, Andrina, Andy, Lauren, Katie, Jeri, Vanessa, Joseph, Amandala, Isaiah Darnell, Dayne, Bryce and Justin; her great-great-grandchildren, Logan, Collen, Lexie, Lindsay, Joey, Alex and Emily Jo; and her sister-in-law, Pearl Buslaff of Campbellsport.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Campbellsport, following a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. at the Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport. Rev. Wayne Barta will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
