A. Kenneth Andersen, 86
A. Kenneth Andersen, 86, of West Bend, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at Friedenheim Rest Home, Slinger.
He was born March 10, 1914, in New London, to the late Andrew W. and May B. (nee Lipke) Andersen, and on May 10, 1938, married Elva M. Doede at Zion Lutheran Church, Merrill.
Ken attended Oshkosh State Teachers College for three years with an emphasis n chemistry. He was then employed in the condensed milk industry, first at Page Milk Co. in Merrill and then at White House Milk Co. in Manitowoc, West Bend and Marathon, retiring in 1977.
After living here from 1944 until 1958, the couple moved back to West Bend in 1993, and Ken had lived here since.
His wife passed away on Nov. 12, 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Alden) Belongia and Jerilyn (Thomas) Fischer, both of West Bend; seven grandchildren, Patricia (Scott) Lofy of Hartford, Laurie (Robert) Hader of West Bend, Michelle (Gregg) Herrmann of Branch, Michael (Jeannine) Belongia and Richard (Lisa) Belongia, both of West Bend, Tom (Robin) Fischer of Cottage Grove, and Amy (Scott) Stern of West Bend; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Schwartz and Dorothy Scoles, both of Hartford; a brother-in-law, Glenn (Phyllis) Doede of Okmulgee, Okla.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Robert (Grace).
He was a member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend. Rev. James R. Ziesemer will officiate, and burial will be at 3 p.m. in Floral Hill Cemetery, New London.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 9 to 10:45 a.m.

Buford C. Schweiger
Buford C. Schweiger, 89, of West Bend, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
He was born Oct. 5, 1910, in Bloom City, Wis., to the late Thomas J. and Esther Pearl (nee Beatty) Schweiger.
On Feb. 23, 1937, he married Nina O. Radichel in Milwaukee, and moved to the town of Barton in 1947.
Prior to his retirement in 1975, he was employed at The West Bend Co. for many years. During this time, he and his wife also owned and operated a dairy farm in the town of Barton.
His wife passed away on Feb. 5, 1998.
An avid gardener, he grew abundant amounts of produce, which he gave away after harvesting.
Survivors include eight children, Marion (Justin) Wilson of Florence, Thomas (Diane) of West Bend, James (Jan) of Cumberland, Jeanne (Mike) Greenley of Appleton, Allen (Barb) and Dean, both of West Bend, David (Brenda) of Marinette and Cindy (Russ) of Birchwood; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lester of King, and John (Kay) of Janesville; two sisters, Gladys Schmidt of Lone Rock and Sadie (Arthur) Backus of West Allis; a sister-in-law, Edna Marzu of West Bend; a special nephew, Carl Schweiger of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a grandson, Doug Greenley, and three brothers, Russ, Jesse and Glenn.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 13, at 2 p.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Sixth and Decorah, West Bend. Rev. George Mumm will officiate, and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
Visitation at the church only will be Thursday from noon until 1:45 p.m.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.

Fern A. Heil
Fern A. Heil, nee Stichman, 81, of West Bend, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
She was born Sept. 18, 1918, in Clintonville, to the late William and Mamie (nee Swall) Stichman, and on Sept. 10, 1938, married Raymond A. Heil in Clintonville.
They moved to West Bend in January 1941, where they opened a painting and decorating business, known as Heil Decorating.
Fern became well known for her decorating skills, and was much loved for her kind-hearted and giving ways.
After she and Ray operated the business for over 40 years, they sold to Bill Hemauer in the early 1980s. She continued working for Bill until retiring in 1987.
Ray passed away on May 28, 1994.
Fern was very involved in the community, including her membership in the West Bend Woman's Club and involvement in its activities, as a long-time active member of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church where she served as co-chair of the Holiday Bazaar and Tour of Homes for many years, her fundraising work through the Cedar Lake Yacht Club, and her membership in the Elks and the Women of the Moose, West Bend Chapter 732.
Survivors include two children, Todd of Milwaukee and Merrie Albrecht of Cedarburg; two grandchildren, Scott (Margaret) Albrecht of Glendale and Zoe Lynn Albrecht of Thiensville; a great-grandchild, Alec Rutger Nagel; two brothers, Perry (Eleanor) of Billings, Mont. and Arlen "Dusty" (Dorothy) of Clintonville; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a sister, Lucille Scheider, and three brothers, Lloyd, Peter and Llewellyn.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 14, at 1 p.m. at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, West Bend. Rev. Bill Dushek will officiate, and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
Visitation at the church only will be Friday from 10 a.m until 12:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church or the Oncology Department at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.

Anthony M. Walter
Anthony M. Walter, formerly of Hartford, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2000 at the Homme Home for the Aging in Wittenburg, Wis. He was 87 years old.
He was born in Hartford on Aug. 22, 1912 to parents Mathias and Helen (nee Borlen) Walter. He married Daphne (nee Ellingson) on July 18, 1932 at St. Kilian Church, Hartford.
Anthony was a dairy farmer for much of his life. He was the first farmer in Dodge Co. to use strip crop farming. After retiring from farming, he worked for Harwal Machining for 10 years. He loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Edward) Harry of Gresham, Wis. and Barbara (Marvin) Zwieg of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard (Marie) Walter of Ixonia; and sister-in-law, Lucille Walter of Rubicon. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Daphne; son, David; daughter, Joanne; two sisters, Marcella (Ollie) Skavland and Margaret Walter; and brother, Norbert Walter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 14 at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick's Chapel, Thompson, with Fr. Michael Petrie officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, July 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Memorials to the charity of one's choice appreciated.

Lawrence L. Jochem
Lawrence L. Jochem, formerly of Hartford, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2000 at his residence. He was 58 years old.
He was born in Hartford on July 2, 1941 to parents John and Sylvia (nee Schisel) Jochem.
He is survived by five brothers, Kenneth (Ann), John Jochem Jr., Wayne (Pamela) Jochem, Robert Jochem, all of Hartford and Jerome Jochem of Madison; five sisters, Donna Mae (Lamann) Pope of Phoenix, Ariz., Joan (Tony) Matuzewski of Nekoosa, Mavis King of Racine, Diane (Robert) Thom of Coloma and Jeanne (Alex) Kaye of Campbellsport. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents; one step-brother, Walter Dishno; and one sister, Jeanette Sandner.
Private family services will be held.
Shimon Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Helen V. Griffin
Helen V. Griffin (nee Pilsner) of Juneau passed away on Monday, July 10, 2000. She was 79 years old.
She was born in Mayville on Dec. 23, 1920 to parents Richard and Meta Pilsner. She married John Griffin on April 26, 1947 in Beaver Dam.
Helen graduated from Waupun High School in 1938. She and her husband lived in Beaver Dam until 1950 when they moved to Oak Grove. She was employed at Clearview Nursing Home as an activity director until she retired in 1984.
She is survived by her sister, Pearl Bergin of Brookfield; special friends, June (Franklin) Schliewe of Juneau and Barb (Marvin) Hanke of Juneau; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, who died in 1976.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home, 150 W. Oak Grove St., Juneau. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Julie A. Krahn officiating. Interment Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Eleanor Dieball
Eleanor Dieball (nee Dobbertin) of Monches passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2000. She was 93 years old.
She was the beloved wife of the late Christian Dieball; dear mother of Arnold (Betty) and Harvey (Evelyn) Dieball; sister of Edward Dobbertin and Theodore (Jessie) Dobbertin. She is further survived by five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 10 at 7 p.m. at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, Sussex. Visitation took place from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Interment on Tuesday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Cemetery, town of Erin.
Memorials to St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Erin appreciated.

Merlin J. F. Capelle
Merlin John Frederick Capelle, 80, of West Bend, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital,
He was born July 1, 1920, in Loyal, to the late Henry E. and Emma (Helmke) Capelle, and on June 3, 1944, married Jane Wollenzien at First Lutheran Church in Temple, Texas.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from December, 1941-1945 which included service in the Aleutian Islands.
Following the war, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating from the College of Engineering in January, 1950.
Following graduation, the family moved to West Bend where Merlin was employed by the city of West Bend as the city engineer from 1950-1955. From 1955-1986 he was in private practice as a civil engineer laying out many of West Bend's residential subdivisions.
Survivors include his wife; four children, John (Wanda) of West Bend, Alan (Sue) of Oregon, Wis., Eileen of Fond du Lac and Emily Lange (Jamie) of Elm Grove; five grandchildren, Laura Capelle of Appleton, Sarah and Becky Capelle of West Bend, Alison Capelle of Oregon, Wis. and Nathan Lange of Elm Grove; a brother, Ken (Dodie) of Brigham City, Utah, and three sisters, Ellen Rasmussen of Frederic, Ethel (Don) Sorenson of Madison and Delores (Robert) Anderson of Janesville.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Henry and James, and two sisters, Camilla and Beverly.
He was a long-time member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Bend.
Merlin enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, traveling, camping and fishing. He was a devoted husband, father and was very proud of all his grandchildren.
Memorial services, officiated by Pastor George Mumm, will be held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, West Bend, at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 14.
Visitation at the church only will be from noon until the time of services.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, is assisting the family.
