Gerritt Bernard Stecker, 84
A memorial Mass will be held today at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Cedarburg, for Gerritt Bernard Stecker, 84, who died peacefully at his Cedarburg home on Aug. 17, 2000.

The family will receive friends at the church from 3 p.m., with the Mass scheduled for 4 p.m. Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, is handling the arrangements.

Mr. Stecker was born Dec. 28, 1915, son of Edmund and Lillian (nee Reimer) Stecker.

He was described as "a loving husband" to Gladys (nee Bernau) Stecker, his wife of 58 years.

He worked for the Falk Corp. in Milwaukee for 40 years. Mr. Stecker was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and enjoyed family activities, sports, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include sons David of Pasadena, Calif., Larry (Karen) of Sayner, Wis. and Jim (Pam) of Ripon; daughters Ellyn (Peter Smith) Stecker of Sound Bend, Ind., Elaine (Joseph) Stecker-Kochanski of Mauston, Mary (Roger) Williams of Fredonia, Kathy Stecker of Grafton and Carole (Michael Pfotenhauer) Stecker of Singapore; grandchildren Maria, Andrea, Jesse, Meg, Ben, Katie, Abbey, Max, Paul, Joy, Mark, Kevin and Joe; great-grandchild Alonzo; step-grandchildren Madison and Ben; brothers Ed (Jeanette), Bob (Erna), Dudley (Jean) and Eugene; sister-in-law Nancy Stecker; many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Lillian Stecker, brother Russell, sister-in-law Donna and son Gerritt Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Terry J. Schinker, 52
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at 7 p.m. at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, Port Washington, for Terry J. Schinker, 52, who died Aug. 17, 2000 at his Port Washington home.

Visitation will be at the church from 4 p.m., with Father Al Sommer to officiate at the service. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Washington. Arrangements are being handled by Poole Funeral Home, Port Washington.

Mr. Schinker was born May 27, 1948 in Milwaukee, son of Melvin and Elaine (nee Betz) Schinker. He married Mary E. Lemke of Cudahy on Sept. 2, 1972.

Mr. Schinker graduated from Port Washington High School, and earned an associate’s degree from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in public accounting.

He was a postal carrier in Mequon-Thiensville for 30 years, and also ran Goldendale Nursery in the Town of Port Washington with his wife for more than 15 years. He was a postal union steward for many years, and a member of the National Nursery Association and the Wisconsin Landscape Federation.

Mr. Schinker was described as "a good-hearted man who enjoyed the outdoors, trees and tractors."

Survivors include his wife Mary of Port Washington, children Peter and Amy Schinker, both of Port Washington; mother Elaine Schinker of the Town of Port Washington; brother Glenn (Beverly) Schinker of Belgium; sisters-in-law Lori (Joseph) Verburgt of Wind Lake and Nancy (James) Czajkowski of Cudahy; mother-in-law Ruth Lemke; other relatives and friends.

Marian W. Lake, 96
Marian W. Lake, nee Walters, 96., of West Bend, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Cedar Bay Assisted Living Facility.

She was born Jan. 17, 1904, in Poynette, to the late Frank and Sara (nee Dunn) Walters.

She attended Poynette grade and high schools and in 1927 graduated from West Suburban School of Nursing in Oak Park, Ill.

As a registered nurse she worked at University Hospital in Madison before becoming the county health nurse for Juneau County in 1938. She then became the county health nurse for Washington County until 1944, after which she worked part time as a nurse at St. Joseph's Community Hospital and The West Bend Co.

On June 24, 1942, Marian married her childhood sweetheart R.J. "Bob" Lake at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, in Iowa. Together they made their home in West Bend.

He passed away on Nov. 29, 1984.

She was a member of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church and the Order of Easter Star, West Bend Ch. 73.

Marian greatly enjoyed the company of others. She especially liked good conversation, good food and a good game of bridge.

Along with her enjoyment of family and friends, Marian liked to travel.

Survivors include a daughter, Marian Elizabeth Nielsen-Gibson of Oshkosh; a grandson, Eric Nielsen of Redondo Beach, Calif.; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding her in death were a sister, Ruth Van Epps; a brother Arthur Walters; and a son-in-law, Allan Gibson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church. Rev. William Dushek will officiate, and burial will be in Poynette Hillside Cemetery on Thursday, at 11 a.m.

Visitation at the church only will be Wednesday after 4 p.m., with an Eastern Star service at 6:45 p.m.

The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home of West Bend is assisting the family.

Michael J. Bohn, 46
Michael J. Bohn, 46, of West Bend, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at his residence.

He was born July 21, 1954, in West Bend, to Philip and Marian (Kocher) Bohn, and graduated from West Bend High School in 1972.

He was a carpet installer for various area companies, including Margets carpeting of West Bend.

Survivors include his mother, Marian Bohn of West Bend; two brothers, Charles of Port Washington and Philip of West Bend; a great niece, Allianna; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his father; a brother, Patrick; and his grandparents.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend. Fr. Michael C. Petersen will officiate, and cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory of Fond du Lac, with inurnment in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Marian I. Weiss, 76
Marian I. Weiss, 76, nee Kohl, of West Bend, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.

She was born Oct. 21, 1923, in Slinger, to the late Antony and Frances (Graff) Kohl, and married Frederick H. Weiss on Nov. 13, 1943, at Camp Murphy, Stuart, Fla.

Together with her husband, Fritz, she raised five children in their home on Walnut Street.

She was also employed as a clerk in the fabric department of Leys Department Store and later at King Kohl's Hobby Shop until 1979 when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and the Christian Women's Confraternity

Marian was a very talented seamstress and made many of the children's clothes as well as her own.

She also enjoyed boating with her family for many years and spending time at their home on Lake Winneconne.

For the past four years, Marian has resided with her husband at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center in West Bend.

Marian is survived by her husband of 56 years, Frederick; four children, Michael (Beatrice) of New Fane, David (Patty) of Friess Lake, Mary Jo (Larry) Carlton of West Bend and Kathleen (John) Brisky of Cedarburg; 10 grandchildren, John (Michelle) Weiss of West Bend, Toni Weiss (friend Craig Gloede) of Kewaskum, Kenneth (Bonnie) Weiss of Campbellsport, Brian Weiss of Hartland, Kevin Carlton of Eau Claire, Craig and Kerianne Carlton, both of West Bend, Kaysie Brisky of Thorntonville, Co. and Noah and Amanda Brisky, both of Cedarburg; a great-grandchild, Joshua Riebe of Kewaskum; two sisters-in-law, Edith Weiss of Garland, Texas,and Dorothy Gorman of Sequim, Wash.; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were a sister, Lorraine Bradison, and her youngest son, Robert, in 1981.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Fr. Jerome Repenshek will be the presider, and burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorials or masses are appreciated.

Earl L. Scheid, 90
Earl L. Scheid, 90, of Campbellsport, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Grancare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Fond du Lac.

He was born March 6, 1910, in the town of Ashford, to the late George W. and Anna Koenig Scheid, and married Ethel Wendt on June 11, 1933, in Waukegan, Ill.

He was employed as a cheesemaker at Stella Cheese in Campbellsport for 40 years, retiring in 1973.

Earl was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Campbellsport where he served as treasurer for 29 years, and a member of the Campbellsport Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, serving as assistant chief for 16 years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary Ann (Alois) Serwe of Campbellsport; a son, David (Linda) of McFarland; four grandchildren, Joe Serwe, Judy Kneiszel, Brian Scheid and Lindsey Scheid; two great-grandchildren, Henry and Wilson Kneiszel; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a granddaughter, Cheryl, a brother and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 1 p.m. at the Campbellsport United Christian Church, Campbellsport.

Rev. Stevens Hilyard will officiate, and entombment will follow in Ledgeview Memorial Park, Fond du Lac.

Visitation at the Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport, will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday from noon until the time of services.

Memorials may be directed to the Campbellsport United Christian Church or the Campbellsport Volunteer Fire Department.
