Further surviving are five children, Robert (Virginia) and Lori (Eugene) Spaeth, both of West Bend, Donna (Charles) Niskey of Scottsdale, Ariz., Ron (Donna) of Madison and Susan Luedtke of Reno, Nev.; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn Cuva of Madison; other relatives and friends.

Elroy was born in Charlesburg, Wis., on May 15, 1913, to the late John and Ella (nee Kraus) Steiner. The family spent much of the early years near Plymouth.

He was well known and respected in the West Bend area, moving here in 1947. He was a member of the Father Casper Rehrl Council 1964 Knights of Columbus and a charter member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish.

Elroy could fix anything, and at the age of 15 started his career in the electrical field with Miske Electric in Adell. Our state was starting rural electrification, so even in the depression years there was plenty of work.

Always involved in electrical and mechanical maintenance construction, Elroy also worked for the Carnation Co., Purity Cheese, White House Milk Co. and ended his career in West Bend with a company that bears his name, Steiner Electric.

Elroy's sons, Bob and Ron, grew up in the electrical business and are master electricians. They both worked with Elroy for many years.

Ron moved on and is currently the executive director of the National Electrical Contractors Association, Madison Office. Bob owned and operated Steiner Electric from 1962 until retiring in 1994.

Rick and Gayle Steiner now own and operate the business and their son, Robb, recently started with his electrical apprenticeship so that Elroy's legacy in the electrical field lives on.

Elroy spent much of his time since his retirement living with and caring for his wife, Catherine. Since her move to the Cedar Lake Health Care Center two years ago, Elroy has been seen daily visiting her, pushing her around the building and grounds, and caring for her.

He will be missed by all who have known him for his hard work and skills, but more so for his sense of humor in what was going on around him. He loved his family and the community in which he lived, always ready to help anyone. He was a friend to many.
