Orrin H. "Corky" Carter
Orrin H. "Corky" Carter, 72, of Campbellsport, went to his heavenly home on Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Fond du Lac, where he had been residing the past month and a half.

He was born May 26, 1928, in Fond du Lac County, to the late Richard and Hilda (Marquardt) Carter.

He was never married.

Corky had worked for Stella Cheese, Asplundh Tree Co. and the Ben Franklin Store.

He was a maintenance man at Mabess Manor Apartments where he lived.

Corky loved helping people

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Campbellsport.

Survivors include five brothers, Richard (Navada) of Castle Rock, Wash., Marvin (Margarete) of Mariposa, Calif., Norbert (Lucy) and Walter (Ethel) of West Bend, and Melvin (Carol) of Kenosha; three sisters, Gladys (James) Karoses of Oshkosh, Bernice Patnode of Hesperia, Calif., and Marion Virginia of West Bend; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Herman and Eldor.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Twohig Funeral Home, Campbellsport.

Rev. Paul A. Cerny officiated, and cremation took place with inurnment in Union Cemetery, Campbellsport.

Violet E. Steinbach

Violet E. Steinbach, 81, of West Bend, formerly of Mayville, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
She was born July 19, 1919, in Milwaukee, to the late Emil and Frieda (nee Ende) Broecker, and married Gustav Steinbach on June 20, 1953, in Mayville.

She graduated from Mayville High School in 1937, and was employed at M.F.C. of Mayville for 22 years as credit manager.

Violet was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, West Bend, former member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville, St. John's Bible Study, St. John's Dorcas Society and also taught Sunday School at St. John's.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey (Vita) Wind of Toronto, Canada; a sister, Lorraine Spain of Carmichael, Calif.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband in 1986; a brother, Glenn; and an uncle, Ernst Ende.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6 at noon at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville.

Rev. Oscar Kraft will officiate, and burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Mayville.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorials may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, West Bend, or St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.

George A. "Junior" Borst
George A. "Junior" Borst, 73, of Slinger, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 13, 1927, in Munising, Mich., to the late George Sr. and Rose (Lonn) Borst, and was raised in Oconto Falls.

After school he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later with the Merchant Marines.

After his marriage to Ehrma L. Anadell on May 15, 1948, in Waukegan, Ill., the couple lived in Milwaukee until 1968 when they moved to Slinger.

He was a steam fitter for Lonn Brothers and later G&B Heating of Slinger, retiring in 1997 to care for his wife at their home.

He was a 50-year member of Steam Fitters Local 601 of Milwaukee.

Survivors include four children, George III "Butch" (Lisa) Borst of Newburgh, Ind., Jerry (Debbie) Borst of Slinger, Jon (Jacki) Borst of Mayville and Jody Svien of West Bend; eight grandchildren, Jenny, Ryan, Kathy, Jason, Eric, Adam, Aaron and Emily; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn (Carl) Clausen of Jefferson and June (Leo) Sloan of Osage, Minn.; two brothers, Jerry Borst of Orange Park, Fla. and Donald (Edith) Borst of Valparaiso, Ind.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife on Sept. 22, 2000, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. at Wisconsin Memorial Park Chapel of the Flowers, Brookfield.

Pastors David Cooper and James Castillo will officiate, and interment will follow in Wisconsin Memorial Park.

Visitation at the Wisconsin Memorial Park Chapel of the Flowers will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

The Phillip Funeral Home of Slinger is assisting the family.

Louise C. Tetzlaff

Funeral services will be held this evening for Louise C. Tetzlaff, 98, a longtime Grafton resident who died Jan. 1, 2001.
Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church on Lakefield Road in the Town of Grafton, starting at 4 p.m. The service will follow at 7 p.m., with interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Milwaukee. Arrangements are being handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton.

Born Nov. 17, 1902 in Milwaukee, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Louise (nee Schwengel) Sudbrink. She married Herman M. Tetzlaff, who preceded her in death. For most of her life, Mrs. Tetzlaff was a homemaker and a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in the Town of Grafton.

Survivors include children June (Robert) Winter of Port Richey, Fla., Donald (Grace) Jahn of Dousman and Norman (Darlene) Jahn of Sussex; step-children Marian (Erwin) Witte of West Bend and Herman Jr. (Doris) Tetzlaff of West Bend. She is further survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Memorials to St. John Lutheran Church Trust Fund would be appreciated.

Laura Raab

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday at Divine Word Catholic Church for Laura Raab, 101, who died on Dec. 29, 2000 at Lasata Nursing Home in Cedarburg, where she had lived since 1996.
Burial was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield. Fr. George Gajdos officiated at the ceremony with Mueller Funeral Home of Cedarburg assisting the family. An additional memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Martin-Kundinger Funeral Home in Marshfield.

Mrs. Raab was born on Oct. 1, 1899 near Adrian, Minn., one of eight children of Peter and Barbara Ruffing. All are deceased.

She married Frank J. Raab on Oct. 3, 1931 in Marshfield. He died in 1980.

Mrs. Raab originally moved to Cedarburg in 1981, but returned to Marshfield for several years before returning to Cedarburg, where she lived until her death.

She attended schools in Adrian and Sleepy Eye, Minn. and was the last surviving member of the first graduating class at St. Mary’s High School in Sleepy Eye, Minn. Mrs. Raab also attended business school in Sleepy Eye before beginning a career as a bookkeeper. She worked for Kraft Cheese Co. in Marshfield and Plymouth and Pocatello, Idaho. After returning to Marshfield in the late 1920s she worked for Felker Bros. Mfg. Co. for 25 years. After her retirement she worked for small companies and then did volunteer work at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield and at Lasata nursing home in Cedarburg.

Survivors include: son William J. (Patricia) of Saukville; grandchildren Marcus (Janet) Raab of Fayetteville, Ga. and Centreville, Va., Gretchen (Kevin) Reed of Appleton, Paul (Beth) Raab of Mequon, Sarah (Paul) Lerche of Port Washington, Kristin (Andrew) Schlingman of Wauwatosa and Heidi (Ralph) Laning of Waupun; great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Hannah and Charlie Reed, Matthew Raab, Madeline and Samuel Lerche, Katie and Will Schlingman, Maria and Peter Laning; other relatives and friends.

The family has suggested memorials to St. Francis Borgia/Divine Word Endowment Fund.

E. Darlene Porterfield

Funeral services were held for E. Darlene Porterfield, 78, of Grafton on Saturday Dec. 30, 2000. Mueller Funeral Home of Cedarburg assisted the family.
Mrs. Porterfield was born Nov. 11, 1922 in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of the late Grover and Della R. (nee James) Huston. She married the late Waldon R. Porterfield.

She owned and operated Karl Studio in Glendale where she was a commercial photographer. She modeled for Gimbel’s and other stores in the early ’50s, and was the former director of Career Girls Agency and School. She retired in 1991.

Survivors include children Waldon R. Jr. (Margaret) Porterfield of Sun Prairie, Kevin James (Heather) Porterfield of Grafton, Wendy Jean (James Curran) Porterfield of Mequon and A. Kent (Debbie) Porterfield of New Breighton, Minn.; brothers Stanley (Bobbie) Huston of Tucson, Ariz., Gerald Huston of Des Moines, Iowa and Dean (Virginia) Huston of Woodland Hills, Calif.

Further survived by grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society appreciated.

Carroll H. Janz

A funeral service was held on Tuesday at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Allenton for Carroll H. Janz, 70, who died on Dec. 29, 2000. Interment was held at the church cemetery. Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Janz graduated from M.S.O.E. and later worked for the Joseph P. Jansen Co. for over 26 years. He was also a veteran who served in the U.S. Army in Japan during the Korean War. He was a member of the Fenton Finders of WI-Chapter #1 and was one of the original vendors of the West Bend Farmers Market.

Survivors include: wife Eleanora (nee Nicolaus); children Nathan (Jill) Janz, Mark (Carolyn) Janz, Ellen Lilburn, Joel (Joan) Janz, John (Jean) Janz, Paula (Kevin) Barta; grandchildren Allison, Adam, Zachary Janz; Amanda (Chad) Martin, Laura, Jessica and Stephanie Janz; Charlene Lilburn, Devan and Blake Janz; Alexia and Izabel Janz; Daniel Barta; great-grandson Cody Martin; brother Clarence (Dorothy) Janz; sisters Clara (Robert) Quass, Shirley (Sylvester) Peters.

Further survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandson Tanner Janz, parents Jacob and Irma (nee Groth) Janz, brother Alvin Janz, sisters Hazel Schaefer and Lucille Gatzke.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church are appreciated.
