Elmer John Ewig
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday at Divine Word Catholic Church for Elmer John Ewig, 76, who died on Jan. 10, 2001. Father George Gajdos officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg. Burial was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Port Washington.

Mr. Ewig was born July 15, 1924 in Port Washington, son of Elmer and Antonia (nee Walus) Ewig. He married Carol Sager on Feb. 23, 1952 at St. Cyril and Methodius in Sheboygan. He attended Divine Word Catholic Church in Cedarburg. Mr. Ewig served in the U.S. Army from July 12, 1943 to Jan. 24, 1946.

Survivors include: wife Carol of Grafton; daughters Debbie (Steve) Gans of Mequon, Connie (Kenneth) Heins of Hubertus, Sheila (Dave) Reynolds of Mequon and Julie (Steve) Wille of Appleton; sons Mark (Judith) Ewig of Chicago and Gregg (Teri) Ewig of Menomonee Falls.

Further survived by 16 grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Evelyn Drydyk

A memorial service was held Monday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Cedarburg for Evelyn Drydyk (nee Griffin), formerly of Cedarburg, who died on Dec. 8, 2000 in Florida. Mrs. Drydyk was born Nov. 10, 1918 in Briggsville.
Survivors include: children Lawrence (Janet) Demerath of Grafton, James (RuthAnn) Demerath of Grafton, Arylene (Steven) Deloach of Seffner, Fla., Gerald (Judith) Demerath of Saukville and John (Edie) Demerath of Westfield.

Further survived by 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Fran Demerath of Lomira, stepchildren, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Lawrence Demerath, second husband John Drydyk and son Arthur Demerath.

Marylin Dartsch

Funeral services were held on Jan. 8, 2001 at Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg for Marylin Dartsch (nee Swanson), 72, of Cedarburg, who died Jan. 6, 2001. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, Ill. The Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg assisted the family.
Mrs. Dartsch was born Dec. 9, 1928 in Chicago, Ill. to the late Fred and Helen (nee Pedersen) Swanson, and married Herb Dartsch on Nov. 24, 1948 in Chicago, Ill.

Survivors include her husband Herb of Cedarburg; children David (Donna) Dartsch of Brookfield, Douglas (Debbie) Dartsch of River Falls and Linda (Lianne Thompson) Dartsch of Portland Ore.; and sister Anette Olson of Des Plains, Ill.

Further survived by eight grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association appreciated.

Darell E. Christensen

Darell E. Christensen, 58, of Brownsville, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Hospice Care, Fitchburg.
He was born Dec. 16, 1942, in Madison, to Alvin and Miriam (Brandsmeier) Christensen, and on Feb. 16, 1974, married Mary M. Fredericksen at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, Kenosha.

He was raised on a dairy farm in Oregon, Wis., and attended grade school and high school in Oregon, graduating in 1960.

From 1962-’64 he attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he studied accounting.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science in 1967 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received his master of agricultural education in 1972, also from UW-Madison.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a propaganda officer for the 2nd Field Force in Vietnam from July 1968 to March 1971.

He taught farm training at Gateway Technical College in Kenosha from 1975 to 1978. From there he moved to Lodi where he was a share owner/operator of Cobland Farms. In 1982 he purchased his own dairy farm in Brownsville and called it Chris-Land Farms where he currently resided.

From 1985 to the present, Darell was an instructor in farm business and production management for Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland, Wis.

He enjoyed bowling, football and skiing.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Heather of Madison and Heidi, attending UW-Madison; his mother, Miriam Christensen of Oregon, Wis.; two sisters, Sylvia (Vern) Lowell of Mt. Horeb and Janice (Henry) Carstens of Brillion; a brother, Jon (Patricia) of Lemont, Ill.; nieces; nephew; cousins; aunts; and numerous friends.

Preceding him in death was his father, Alvin.

Funeral services were held Saturday. at Christian Life Fellowship Church, Mayville.

Revs. Roy McKain and David Koch officiated, and graveside services were held Sunday at Prairie Mount Cemetery, Oregon, Wis.

Visitation was at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, Fond du Lac.

Memorials may be made to the Lakeshore Foundation or the American Heart Association.

His family described Mr. Christensen as a man of faith and integrity, a devoted husband and father who lived life to the fullest both at work and play.

Carl A. Biederman
A memorial service was held Jan. 13 for Carl A. Biederman, 87 of Oshkosh, who died on Jan. 3, 2001.

Mr. Biederman was born Sept. 7, 1913 in St. Louis, Mo., son of the late John A. and Olga (nee Koerner) Biederman. He was president of Oshkosh National Bank, former president of Wisconsin Bankers Association, past president of the Oshkosh Rotary Club, member of St. Mary’s Church in Oshkosh and founding director of Western State Bank. He was also on the board of directors of Oshkosh Truck Corp, Mercy Medical Center and Twin Lakes Council Boy Scouts. Mr. Biederman worked in many different ways with the United Way, Evergreen Manor and the March of Dimes.

Survivors include: wife Donna (nee Marheine) of Cedarburg; daughters Linda (William) Nelson of Lake Geneva, Nancy Mullarkey or Park Ridge, Ill. and Marianne (Michael) Mette of Cedarburg; grandchildren Tracy Nelson of Madison, Michael (Jennifer) Nelson of Pickerington, Ohio, Christine Mullarkey of Park Ridge, Ill., Jason (Amy) Gasser of Old Fort, N.C., Matthew Mette of Cedarburg and Kimberly Mette of Cedarburg; brother John (Alice) Biederman.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Eleanor (nee Voigt), sister Marie Nelson and son-in-law John Mullarkey.

In lieu of flowers memorials to Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh or St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee would be appreciated.

Dale W. Norstrant
Dale W. Norstrant, 79, of West Bend, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center.

He was born in Waupun on Sept. 4, 1921, to the late Ray and Alma (nee Crossett) Norstrant, and was raised in Berlin.

After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater during World War II.

On Sept. 27, 1946, he married Marion Wilson in Berlin where they made their home until moving to West Bend in 1956.

Dale was the vice president and comptroller at the West Bend Savings Bank until retiring in 1983. He was also a member of the Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, West Bend.

Survivors include his wife; a sister-in-law, Floriene Ericson of Bonduel; three nieces, Linda (Wayne) Zuehlke of Waupun, Jane (Harold) Rogers of Hayes, Kan. and Inez (James) Trantow of Waupaca; four nephews, Kenneth Nowak of Marion, Iowa, Dr. Wayne (Marilyn) Ericson of Normal, Ill., Lee (Kristyne) Ericson of Green Bay and Willis (Judy) Seabrook of Madison.

Preceding him in death were a sister, Mary Nowak; a sister-in-law, Alice Fuller; and two nephews, Donald Nowak and Jerry Fuller.

Private family services will be held at the Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church.

Rev. William Dushek will officiate, and inurnment will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association are appreciated by the family.

The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home of West Bend is assisting the family.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff of the Cedar Lake Health Care Center for their kindness and caring support during Dale's illness.

Eugene E. "Gene" Purgett

Eugene E. "Gene" Purgett, 74, of Germantown, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Withee, to the late Charles and Florence (Bergstrom) Purgett.

Gene served in World War II in the U.S. Army Infantry, and was honorably discharged in May of 1946.

After his marriage to Catherine E. Blume on June 21, 1947, at Owen in the priest's rectory in the Woodland Hotel, the couple moved to Milwaukee where he owned and operated Eugene Purgett Trucking for over 30 years.

Following his retirement, he enjoyed auctions, fishing and seeing Wisconsin with his wife in their camper.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Gloria (Bob) Allen, Paul Purgett and Laura (Bill) Kirchen; seven grandchildren, Travis, Christine, Paul, Susan, Eric, Jaime and Shannon; two great-grandchildren, Skylart and Celest; three sisters, Ruby (Don) Zimmerman of Richfield, Janet (Otto) Sauer of Lakewood and Diane (John) Kleinke of Campbellsport; a sister-in-law, Marge Purgett of Brookfield; cousins; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were two children, Anna (Purgett) Burdick and Duane Purgett, and a brother, Mahlon Purgett.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend

Pastor Robert H. Lindau will officiate, and interment will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Thursday from 11 a.m until the time of services.
