Margaret Helen Ten Pas

Margaret Helen Ten Pas, 88, nee Lang, of Hartford, was born to eternal life on Friday, Jan. 19, 2001.
She was born on June 14, 1912, in Milwaukee, to the late Henry Lang an Anna Mary Roth who emigrated from Darmash, Austria-Hungary.

She graduated from West Division High School in 1930 and in 1934 married Philip J. Orth. They had six sons.

Philip passed away on Aug. 20, 1967.

During her life in Milwaukee, Margaret taught cake decorating for many years at Milwaukee Area Technical College and later was the secretary to the administrator, Marvin Neely, at Milwaukee County General Hospital.

Upon her retirement in mid-1970s, she relocated to Oostburg.

Her love of antiques, which she had collected over the years, prompted her to open an old-time general store and museum called "Maggie's Treasure Attic," which featured a complete early 1900s kitchen.

She was also an avid button collector and former member of the Wisconsin Button Club.

In Oostburg, she met and married Alvin Ten Pas on June 18, 1977. Her beloved Alvie died on April 9, 1986.

She sold their home and moved to the Millpond Apartments in Hartford where she lived for 12 years before declining health forced her to move to Cedar Lake Health Care Center.

She was the loving mother of Philip Orth Jr. of Houston, Henry (Carol) Orth of Hartford, John (Mary) Orth of Las Vegas, the late Eugene (Sharon) Orth of Arizona, Nick (Joan) Orth of Hartford and Daniel (Sandra) Orth of Oak Creek; dear stepmother of Laverne Shinkle of Sheboygan, Alice (Dale) DeMaster of Cedar Grove, Carl (Joanne) Ten Pas of Colorado, Dan (Marlan) Ten Pas of Oostburg and Ione (Bill) Salmi of Sheboygan.

She is further survived by 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were a son, Eugene Orth; a stepson, Raymond (Beverly) Orth; four sisters, Elizabeth Sigg, Anna Krohn, Evelyn Knetzger and Katherine Lieven; a brother, Henry Lang Jr.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. at Divine Savior Lutheran Church, Hartford, with interment in Highland Memorial Park.

Visitation at the church will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Memorials to Divine Savior Building Fund are appreciated.

The Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, is serving the family.

Doris Paruch
Doris Paruch, nee Johnson, 85, a resident of Cedar Bay, West Bend, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.

She was born on July 27, 1915, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Alexander and Alma (nee Brostom) Johnson.

In Chicago she was employed at a variety of businesses in a secretarial capacity, one of which enabled her to witness the starts of several theatrical stars while working with a vaudeville circuit photographer.

While employed in a health food business in downtown Chicago, she met the man she would marry in 1935, the late Dr. Frank Paruch.

She and her family lived in Woodale, Ill. and later in Gibson City, Ill., where she assumed the role of mother and housewife while being active in civic life, being president of the woman's club.

Here, she also completed her secondary education, which had been interrupted by the depression inter alia.

After her husband, Frank, died in 1957, Doris and her two young children moved to West Bend to be closer to her sister, Irene.

She worked as a secretary at Sierra Grinding Wheel in Jackson for a decade, and then for the city of West Bend engineering department until retiring in 1986.

Survivors include two sons, Weldon (Sharon) Paruch and Vernon (Bonnie) Paruch, both of West Bend; four grandsons, Lucas Paruch of Dubuque, Iowa, and Quinn Paruch, Ryan Paruch and Austin Paruch, all of West Bend; a niece, Jeanette (Milton) Holl of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Lillian Nobis of Des Plaines, Ill.; two cousins, Diane (Douglas) Macdonald of Des Plaines, Ill. and June (Amos) Hollins of Maywood, Ill., and her life-long friend from grade school, Marie-Ann Palmer of Northbrook, Ill.

Preceding her in death was her sister, Irene Johnson, and Irene's husband, Ernest.

In accordance with Doris' written wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service.

The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home West Bend, is assisting the family.

Wilmer Carl Ohrmund
Wilmer Carl Ohrmund, 82, of Fond du Lac, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Samaritan Health Center, West Bend.

He was born Dec. 23, 1918, in the town of Barton, to the late Albert and Lena (Otto) Ohrmund, and married Mabel Hanrahan on May 17, 1947, at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Hartford.

William farmed with his father in the town of Barton until enlisting in the U.S. Navy.

He was employed at Chrysler Marine in Hartford for over 30 years, retiring in 1981.

William enjoyed gardening, card playing, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Wilmer Jr. "Bill" (Nancy) of Kekoskee; two grandsons, Tom (Debra) Ohrmund of Brownsville and Gary (Jennifer) Ohrmund of Gaithersburg, Md.; a great-grandson, Gregory Mark Ohrmund; two brothers, Elmer and Al, both of West Bend; four sisters, Gertrude Minch of West Bend, Florence (Bill) Endres of Slinger, Viola Derge of Hartford and Ruth (Wilbur) Redlin of Slinger; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife in 1985; three brothers, Oscar, Harold and Ervin; a sister, Esther; and a grandson, William Carl.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 1 a.m. at St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church, Knowles.

Rev. Daniel Schmidt will officiate, and interment will be in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery, LeRoy.

Friends may call at the Cottrill Funeral Home, Mayville, on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church

Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Knowles.

Crystal Rose Barg

Crystal Rose Barg, 14, of West Bend, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 11, 1986, in Des Moines, Iowa, to David and Joanne (Backstrom) Barg.

Crystal was an eighth-grade student at Silverbrook Middle School.

Survivors include her parents, Joanne (Don Burdick) Epps of West Bend and David Barg of Iron Ridge; maternal grandparents, Marilyn Shephard of Des Moines and Norman (Dorothy) Backstrom of Des Moines; paternal step-grandmother, Barbara Barg of Winneconne; paternal great-grandmother, Rose Flath of Grafton; two sisters, Lanette Epps of Illinois and April Stout of Des Moines; a stepsister, Crystal Dalton of West Bend; aunts; uncles; cousins; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her grandfather, Jim Barg, and grandmother, Joyce Barg.

She was a member of Kettle Moraine Bible Church of West Bend.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend.

Pastor Michael Keshaw will officiate, and cremation will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Memorials are appreciated to Kettle Moraine Bible Church, West Bend.

Ardelle V. "Ronnie" Oberdas
Ardelle V. "Ronnie" Oberdas, (nee LaCosse), 74, of West Bend, formerly of Milwaukee, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.

She was born May 29, 1926, in the town of Michigamme, Mich., to the late Alcide and Clara (nee Dompierre) LaCosse, and married Joseph C. Oberdas on May 13, 1947, at St. Hedwigs Church, Milwaukee.

Survivors include her husband; seven children, Karla (Thomas) Duerr of Milwaukee, Monica (Jim) Ross of Woodlands, Texas, Dean (Gail) of Mayville, Mary (Gary) Teschendorf of Lisbon, John of Waupun, Theresa (Mark) Kopczynski of Oconto Falls and Paul of Toledo, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Lou Carr and Lola Herbert, both of Michigan; a brother, Raymond LaCosse of North Carolina; a brother-in-law, Clarence LeClaire of Michigan; a sister-in-law, Marge Charnish of Milwaukee; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were a brother and three sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend, with Fr. Patrick Wendt presiding.

Visitation at the church only will be Wednesday from 4 to 6:45 p.m.

The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.
