Fern M. Kumrow, 77
Fern M. Kumrow, nee Crass, 77, of West Bend, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 10, 1923, in the town of Farmington, to the late Leonard and Louise (nee Chesak) Crass.

After her marriage to Arnold Kumrow on Sept. 9, 1940, in West Bend, the couple settled in West Bend where she was employed at The West Bend Co. for 34 years.

After her retirement, Fern took up crafting, making many lovely articles and giving them away to some of the ladies at Meadowbrook Manor.

Fern truly enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; four children, David (Mary), Barbara (Chuck) Stehlik, Janice (Joseph) Harter, all of West Bend, and Joanne (Dennis) Rank of Campbellsport; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Violet Biertzer of West Bend and June Rennicke of Mequon; a brother, Iver Crass of West Bend; two sisters-in-law, Ermine Crass and Doris Fisher, both of West Bend; a brother-in-law, Robert (Bernice) Kumrow of West Bend; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were two children, Judith Tomko and Daniel Kumrow; two brothers, James and Merlin; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Fisher.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend.

Father Gerald Brittain officiated, and cremation followed.

Oliver B. Schmeling

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Freistadt, for Oliver B. Schmeling, 84, of Germantown, who died Jan. 23, 2001 at Virginia Highlands Health Care Center in Germantown.
Interment was at the church Cemetery, and arrangements were handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg.

Mr. Schmeling was born Sept. 28, 1916 in Freistadt, son of the late Emil H. and Edna (nee Brueggemann) Schmeling. He married the late Viola Seifert on Sept. 15, 1940 in Mequon.

Mr. Schmeling was a dairy farmer in Germantown most of his life, and also worked at the Schmeling Barber Shop operated in downtown Thiensville by his father.

He was a lifelong and active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Freistadt.

Survivors include daughter Susan (Cliff) Ernst of Germantown; granddaughters Jennifer (Mark) Owens of Oakdale, Minn. and Michelle (fiance Mark Marriott) Ernst of Germantown; brother-in-law Ervin (Viola) Seifert of Mequon; sister-in-law Leona (Monroe) Schoessow of Cedarburg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorials to the church would be appreciated.

Rev. Herman C. Schedler

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Friestadt for Thiensville resident Rev. Herman C. Schedler, 102, who died Jan. 22, 2001. Interment will be at the church cemetery. Instate will be in the church gathering room from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
Rev. Schedler was born May 14, 1898 in Fischer, Minn. to Rev. Paul and Minna Schedler. He was the oldest of eight children, seven sons, all of which became pastors, and one daughter.

Survivors include: daughter Florence (Mas) Hayakawa; sons Robert (Sharon) Schedler, Richard (Lorriane) Schedler, Harold (Yvonne) Schedler, Eugene (Shirley) Schedler; brother Walter (Charlotte) Schedler; sister Minna (Roger) Thames.

Further survived by 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-laws Margaret, Edna, Louella, Esther Schedler, Edan Glahn.

He was preceded in death by parents, wife of 75 years, Lillie, brothers Paul, Joel, Oscar, Edmund and Arthur.

Charles N. "Chuck" Race

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton for Grafton Gladiators youth football coach Charles N. "Chuck" Race, 30, of Port Washington, who died Jan. 22, 2001.
Interment is at Woodlawn Cemetery, Grafton.

Survivors include his wife, Paula (nee Hoffman) Race; children Maxwell and Makenna; parents Roger and Catherine Race; brothers Thomas and Jon (Kelly); in-laws Bob and Janice Hoffman; brother-in-law Mark Hoffman; sister-in-law Julie (Todd) Elliott; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Chuck Race Memorial Fund, c/o Grafton State Bank would be appreciated.

Thomas A. Keyes

Funeral services were held Saturday in Amherst for former Cedarburg resident Thomas A. Keyes, 68, died at his home Jan. 23, 2001. Arrangements were handled by A.J. Holly & Sons, Ltd. in Waupaca.
Mr. Keyes was born in Milwaukee on June 2, 1932, son of the late Thomas E. and Ruth (nee Wilkes) Keyes. He married Sue Winter on June 9, 1956 in Milwaukee.

After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, Mr. Wilkes returned and worked for Wisconsin Electric Power Co., retiring as a supervisor. He was also a member of United Methodist Church in Amherst.

Survivors include his wife Sue Keyes; daughters Linda Rose (Thomas) Oesterle of Newman, Ga. and Jill Susan (Joseph) Frank of Cedarburg; son John Thomas Keyes; grandchildren Jamie, Paul, Allison and Luke; brother James (Marlene) Keyes of Oak Creek; sisters Dorothy (Thomas) Schelinske of Campbellsport and Doris (Marvin) Clement of New Berlin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to facilitate an operatic concert in Mr. Keyes’ honor benefiting the Portage County Hospice and the American Cancer Society.

Robert R. Howard

Private funeral services were held for Robert R. Howard, 69, who died on Jan. 23, 2001.
Mr. Howard graduated from UW-Madison, Phi Beta Kappa, received a master’s degree from UW-Milwaukee and a CPA. He served in the Army Finance Corps from 1952-1954. He retired as vice president of finance from Badger Meter, Inc. and was a dedicated patron and Zoo Pride volunteer of the Zoological Society of Milwaukee.

Survivors include: wife Madeline J. Howard; son William J. Howard of New Orleans, La.; granddaughter Bridget (John) Gruel; sisters Mary Chang and Dorothy Mitchell.

Schramka-Densow Funeral Home, Thiensville, assisted the family with arrangements.

Joyce Clara Dobberpuhl

A funeral service was held on Jan. 26 at Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg for Joyce Clara Dobberpuhl, 67, who died on Jan. 23, 2001. Rev. Jim Hill officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home. Burial was held at Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg.
Ms. Dobberpuhl was born Sept. 11, 1933 in Cedarburg, daughter of Arthur and Ida (nee Kasten) Dobberpuhl.

Survivors include: daughters Norine (John) Helmlinger of Cedarburg, Holly Dobberpuhl of Cedarburg; sons Ken Dobberpuhl of Random Lake, Russ (Pam) Dobberpuhl of Jackson, John (Jill) Dobberpuhl, Aurora, Colo.; sister Gertrude Fischer of Milwaukee; grandchildren Jessica and Jason Helmlinger, Jenny and Stephanie Dobberpuhl, Keith and Jack Dobberpuhl.

Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wallace and Chester and sisters Myra and Marjorie.

Memorials to the American Heart Association are appreciated.

Daniel A. Borchardt

Funeral services were on Saturday at Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg for Daniel A. Borchardt, 38, who died on Jan. 22, 2001. Interment was in Immanuel Cemetery.
Mr. Borchardt was born Sept. 2, 1962 in Port Washington, the son of Rollie and the late Delores (nee Passint) Borchardt. He worked for Charter Steel of Saukville.

Survivors include: children: Krista and Kyle; his father Rollie Borchardt; brothers: Nick (Sandy) Borchardt and Perry (Renee) Borchardt; sister: April (Matthew) Sved; nieces Angie, Liz, Sammi Jo; nephews Steven and Hayden; fiancee Debbie Deutsch and her children Ryan, Nicholas and Anthony.

Further survived by former wife Rena Borchardt, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Borchardt Children Trust Fund appreciated.

John A. Barthel

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Freistadt for John A. Barthel, 80, who died Jan. 24, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee.
Visitation will be at the church from 4 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg.

Mr. Barthel was born March 11, 1920 in Milwaukee, the son of Joseph and Anna (nee Fritz) Barthel. He married the late Gladys Pipkorn on Aug. 3, 1946.

Survivors include children Bonnie (Mark) Koening of Cedarburg, Glenn (Carol) of Mequon and Lee (Gena) of Brookfield; grandchildren Jennifer and Christopher Koening, Jeffery, Casey and Nickie Barthel; sisters Lillian Barthel of Milwaukee and Esther Wille of Wauwatosa; other relatives and friends.

Cyril S. Stockhausen

Cyril S. Stockhausen, 76, of West Bend, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
He was born Feb. 18, 1924, in West Bend, to the late John and Cecilia (nee Thull) Stockhausen, and served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1950.

On Sept. 27, 1952, he married Irmtraut Deuber at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Milwaukee.

He a self-employed carpenter for many years and later was also employed as a maintenance worker at Lasata Nursing Home in Cedarburg for nine years, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend, the Catholic Order of Foresters and a life member of the Apostolate of Suffering.

Survivors include his wife; five children, Barbara (John Adams) Stockhausen of Platteville, Krista Stockhausen of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ursula (Gary) Waala of West Bend, Dean (Lisa) Stockhausen of Kewaskum and Lisa (David) Dougherty of West Bend; 12 grandchildren, Greg Adams, Christian (Kelly) Waala, Dana (Zach) Schlueter, Amy Waala, Cara Waala, Erin Stockhausen, Shannon Stockhausen, Ross Stockhausen, Mitchell Dougherty, Kyle Dougherty, Connor Dougherty and Anna Dougherty; a sister, Bernadine Wollner of West Bend; three brothers, Lawrence (Vivian) Stockhausen, Vincent (Janet) Stockhausen and Merlin (Donna) Stockhausen, all of West Bend; two sisters-in-law, Marie Stockhausen of West Bend and Ingrid Mueller of Kewaskum; two brothers-in-law, Fritz Luebbecke of Germany and George (Arlene) Deuber of Indiana ; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a son, Dale Stockhausen; a grandson, Grant Dougherty; and a brother, Jerome Stockhausen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend.

Rev. Adrian Staehler will be the presider, and burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, West Bend.

Visitation at the church will be Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials to Wisconsin Parkinson Association or Holy Angels Catholic Church are appreciated.

The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.
