Martin O'Shea

Martin O'Shea, 82, of Newburg, formerly of Chicago, entered eternal life on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.
He was born in County Clare, Ireland, and had been an electrician.

He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (nee McMillan); loving father of Jennifer (Clint) Swanson of Cedarburg; proud granddad of Anne Marie Swanson and David Swanson, both of Cedarburg.

He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Newburg.

Rev. Robert Sampon will officiate, and private interment for the family will be in St. Finbar's Cemetery.

Visitation at the church will be Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.

Memorials are appreciated to St. Joseph's Catholic School, 1206 16th Ave., Grafton 53024.

The Feerick Funeral Home, Shorewood is assisting the family.

George J. Houting
George J. Houting, 90, of West Bend, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Friendship House at Cedar Lake Health Care Center, West Bend.

He was born May 21, 1919, in Holland, Mich., to the late John and Catherine (nee DeKracker) Houting, and married Theresa Doyle on July 10, 1936, in Milwaukee.

George was employed as a purchasing agent and assistant general plant manager at Eaton Corp. for many years, retiring in 1965.

His wife passed away on April 8, 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Christine (Gary) Mueller of Crandon; three grandchildren, Gary (Debbie) Mueller II of Grafton, Julie (Joel) Knudson of Germantown and David Mueller of Milwaukee; five great-grandchildren, Kristen Mueller, Mia Mueller, Eric Knudson, Jessica Knudson and Zachary Knudson; a sister-in-law, Loretta Houting of West Bend; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a sister, Geneva Schaefer, and a brother, Lewis Houting.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, West Bend.

Rev. James Eckblad will officiate, and burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Holland, Mich.

Visitation at the church will be Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorials to the Cedar Campuses, 5595 Highway Z, West Bend, Wis. 53095, are appreciated.

The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.

Myrtle "Dolly" Happel
Myrtle "Dolly" Happel, nee McComb, 90, of Hartford, passed away on Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at the Hartford Care Center.

She was born Aug. 20, 1910, in Milwaukee, to the late Jerome and Caroline (nee Schneider) McComb, and married John Happel on Oct. 28, 1933, in the parsonage of the First United Methodist Church of Hartford.

Dolly was a member of the Eastern Star and the Hartford Senior Friends.

She had worked at the Kissel Car Co. and Weinberg Shoe Co. before owning the Happel Grocery Store with her husband on Pike Lake.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith (Thomas) Wright and Jeri Theisen; a son, Richard (Mary Ellen) Happel; six grandchildren, Tony Happel, Kim Theisen, James Wright, Richard (Valerie) Wright, Robert Wright and Lori Happel; two great-grandchildren Jeremy Wright and Christopher Essex.

Dolly is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death was her husband.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford.

Rev. Ronald Pinc will officiate, and interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends Tuesday at the funeral home from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or American Cancer Society are appreciated.

George L. Roecker
George L. Roecker, 83, of West Bend, formerly of Allenton, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, Fond du Lac.

He was born July 18, 1917, on the homestead farm in the town of Addison, to the late Charles and Elsie (Basler) Roecker.

He graduated from West Bend High School and was a member of the West Bend Marching Band.

George was a talented musician and played a violin and button accordion for many house parties.

Following his marriage to Sylvia D. Sarauer on Oct. 12, 1940, in St. Kilian's parsonage, St. Kilian, the couple farmed in the town of Addison for 48 years.

He was also employed at Kasten Mfg. Co. and the Gehl Co. for over 25 years.

George was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church of Kohlsville, and a member of the Gehl Co. 25 Year Club.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Janice Guerndt of Mosinee and Lyle (Pam) Roecker of West Bend; five grandchildren, John Guerndt of Mosinee, Gary Guerndt of Schofield, Shawn Roecker of Hartford and Nicole and Brittany Roecker of West Bend; a great-grandchild, Michaela Rae Guerndt of Schofield; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death was a sister, Marie Schmidt.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 1, at 8 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend.

Rev. Curtis Schowalter and Rev. Gene Witman will officiate, and interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Allenton, at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Thursday from 3:30 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated.

Lois B. McGlenn
Lois B. McGlenn, nee Berg, 70, of West Bend, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.

She was born Nov. 25, 1930, in Milwaukee, to the late Orville and Josephine (Volbrecht) Berg, graduated in 1948 from Messmer High School, and attended Marquette University.

After her marriage to James E. McGlenn on Sept. 6, 1961, in West Bend, the couple lived in West Bend.

Lois was the co-owner of Environmental Specialists Inc. of West Allis for over eight years, and was still very active in the business.

Survivors include her husband; four children, Robert McGlenn of Virginia, Kathleen (Thomas) Jackson of Saukville, Sean (Lyn) McGlenn of West Bend and Deven (Katie) McGlenn of Chicago, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Glenna McGlenn of Sterling, Va.; a sister, Barbara (John) Ribecky of Milwaukee; a brother, Jerome (Paula) Berg of Milwaukee; two granddogs, Murphy and Reilly; seven grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were two sisters, Joan and Cynthia.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend.

Fr. John J. Wutscheck will officiate, and cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory of Fond du Lac.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Frances R. Helf
Frances R. Helf, nee Altschaefl, 90, of West Bend, formerly of West Allis, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center.

She was born Oct. 28, 1910, in Newburg, to the late Frank and Josephine (Entstrasser) Altschaefl, and was raised in the Newburg area.

In 1926 she moved to Milwaukee and married Matthew Scharrer. Soon after the birth of their daughter, Jeanette, Matthew passed away.

She married Otto Helf on Feb. 25, 1943 in New York where he was stationed in the Army.

Otto passed away on Dec. 1, 1983.

Frances retired at age 62 from Children's Hospital of Milwaukee where she had been employed for over 30 years.

Her talents were endless and admired. She enjoyed sewing, mending, card playing and Bingo.

Frances has been an inspiration to us all and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include a very special sister, Josephine Wardius of West Bend; three dear grandchildren, Michael Kuntz of Palmyra, Richard Kuntz of Campbellsport and Karrie (Scott) Gerritson of West Bend; seven cherished great-grandchildren, Lucus, Kayla, Kyle, Jaclyn, Rebecca, Jeffrey and Kimberly nieces; nephews; other relatives and many caring friends.

Preceding her in death were a daughter, Jeanette; a son-in-law, Ollie Kuntz; two sisters, Marie and Agnes; and a brother, Joseph.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend.

Father Jeffrey Haines will officiate, and interment will take place in Highland Memorial Park of New Berlin.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated to the American Cancer Society.

Gerhard A. "Jerry/Gary" Holzhueter
Gerhard A. "Jerry/Gary" Holzhueter, 78, of West Bend, formerly of Milwaukee, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.

He was born Dec. 28, 1922, in Brillion, to the late John and Ida (Maertz) Holzhueter.

He was raised in Brillion where he was educated at St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from Brillion High School in 1941.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a tech corporal, auto mechanic with the 2nd Division, 9th Infantry at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

After his marriage to Joyce L. Gottschalk on June 30, 1951, at Lake Mills, the couple lived in Milwaukee.

He was employed by the city of Milwaukee Department of Public Works and the public library until retiring in 1984.

In 1986 the couple moved to West Bend where he was a past member of the Cedar Ridge Choir, Welcome Friend Committee and the Cedar Campus Ridgeville Choristers.

He enjoyed working on his car, repairing equipment, his boat, fishing and bowling, enjoyed traveling abroad, and especially in northern Wisconsin and Florida.

He always kept his sense of humor even in challenging medical times.

Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Leona Holzhueter of Milwaukee and Selma Weber of Chilton; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 2, at noon at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend.

Rev. Curtis Schowalter and Rev. Howard Knox will officiate, and entombment will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield, at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated.
