Evangeline A. "Vanny" Steinmetz
Evangeline A. "Vanny" Steinmetz, nee Krahn, 80, of West Bend, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.

She was born July 1, 1920, in Marathon County to the late Frank and Walinda (nee Sonnenberg) Krahn, and married Edward "Eppie" G. Steinmetz on Oct. 21, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa.

He passed away on Aug. 27, 1983.

Vanny lived in the West Bend area almost her entire life.

She was employed as a clerk at J.C. Penny department store for over 18 years, and was active in the Altar Guild at Trinity Lutheran Church, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Red Cross.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra (Richard) Klade of Ogden, Utah; four grandchildren, Lee Klade of New London, Conn., Greg (Chris) Steinmetz, Bobbijo (Scott) Kuklinski and Mark Steinmetz, all of West Bend; five great-grandchildren, Josh Hamilton, Alec and Quinn Steinmetz and Nicole and Robby Steinmetz; a brother, Wilbert (Marcella) Krahn of West Bend; four sisters, Ruby Bever and Mavis (Harvey) Schmidt, both of West Bend, Virginia Simpson of Athens and Marilyn (Richard) Backhaus of West Bend; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death was a son, Robert Steinmetz.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, West Bend.

Rev. David Schoob and Rev. Terry Berg will co-officiate, and burial will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation at the church only will be Friday from 4 to 6:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Threshold Sheltered Workshop.

The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.

Ronald W. Schoeder
Ronald W. Schoeder, 53, of Hartford, formerly of West Bend, died on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at the Hartford Care Center.

He was born Feb. 13, 1947, in Port Washington to George G. and Irmagard E. (nee Diels) Schoeder.

Ron came to the West Bend area about 30 years ago, living here ever since.

He was employed at United Foundry in Grafton for about 10 years.

Ron's hobbies included model trains, woodworking and restoring antique items.

Survivors include three children, Belinda Schoeder of Neosho, Rhonda Schoeder and Sheila Schoeder, both of West Bend; four grandchildren, Natasha, Brittany, Cheyeanna and Sabrina; his mother, Irmagard of Eagle River; eight brothers and sisters, Richard (Kathy) of West Bend, Donald (Donna) of Holy Cross, Judy (Orvin) Erickson of West Bend, John of Newburg, James of Fredonia, Mary Wagner of Eagle River, George (Donna) of West Bend and Doreen (Joe) Kritz of Eagle River; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his father, a brother, Robert, and a brother-in-law, Gerry Wagner.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend.

Fr. Jeffrey Haines of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, West Bend, will officiate, and burial of the cremated remains will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lake Church.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Thursday from 5 to 5:45 p.m.

Theresa S. Peters
Theresa S. Peters, 95, nee Gering, of West Bend, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center.

She was born March 22, 1905, in Aurora, Ill., to the late George and Mary (nee Hankes) Gering, and on May 4, 1946, married Henry Peters in Beloit.

She moved to West Bend and farmed with her husband on the family homestead farm in the town of Barton.

Her husband passed away on Nov. 4, 1960.

Theresa was a member of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Parish and attended church every day. She was also a member of the Christian Women Society at St. Mary's and was formerly an active member of the church choir.

Survivors include two children, Joseph Peters and Marita (Ronald) DuCharme, both of West Bend; three grandchildren, Steven DuCharme of New Holstein, Jessica (Daniel) Fouks of Osceola and Kelly DuCharme of Boltonville; a great-granddaughter, Hailey Fouks; two sisters-in-law, Odelia Peters of West Bend and Dorothy Gering of North Aurora, Ill.; other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Parish.

Fr. Michael Petersen will be the presider and burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation at the church only will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Memorials to St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Parish are appreciated by the family.

The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, is assisting the family.

John W. Flasch Sr.
John W. Flasch Sr., 88, of Campbellsport, formerly of West Bend, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 5, 1912, in the town of Wayne to the late Killian and Gertrude (nee Becker) Flasch.

On June 19, 1934, he was united in marriage to Florence A. Loomis in Washington County. She passed away on Sept. 4, 1962. On June 1, 1963, he married Suzanna Shauditis in Washington County. She predeceased on Nov. 11, 1978.

John lived in this area all his life, settling in Campbellsport in 1988.

He was employed as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic at the former Northern Sand and Gravel, and also at the former Line Material.

Survivors include four children, Daniel (Mary) of Fish Creek, Gloria (George) Luzadder of Harrison, Mo., John Jr. (Irene) of Ferndale, Mich. and Thomas (Carolyn) of West Bend; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Clarisy Lenhartz of Campbellsport, Paula (John) Leitner and Joan (Richard) Slavik, both of West Bend; two brothers, Roland and Robert (Janet), both of West Bend; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a grandson, Anthony Flasch; a great-grandson, Brian Luzadder; and five brothers, Raymond, Peter, Gregor, Wilmer and Leonard.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend.

Daniel Schroeder, pastorial assistant at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, will officiate, and burial will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery (old).

Visitation at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4 to 6:45 p.m.

Leta W. Klug

Leta W. Klug, 88, of the town of Scott, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at Beechwood Rest Home in Beechwood.
She was born Nov. 20, 1912, in the town of Scott, to the late Herman and Emma (Jandre) Wilke, and on June 17, 1931, married Raymond Klug at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott.

Her husband passed away on July 18, 1975.

Mrs. Klug was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott, the Ladies Aid, the Lutheran Layman's League and Beechwood Senior Citizens.

Survivors include three children, Floyd (Laura) Klug of the town of Scott, Glen (Marge) Klug of the town of Farmington and Rogene (Richard) Baker of New Fane; four grandchildren, Doreen (Chris) VanElls, Mike (Cindy) Engelman, Steven (Patty) Klug and Angela Klug; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death was a grandson, David Engelman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott.

Rev. William Robinson will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services.

The Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, is serving the family.

Bernard James Rupp
Bernard James Rupp, 81, died Feb. 5, 2001 following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Rupp and his wife of 54 years, Kathro, lived in Fond du Lac, Appleton and Milwaukee before moving to Cedarburg following his retirement as a sales manager with Owens Illinois Paper Co.

A Liturgy of the Word will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Zacherl Funeral Home, Fond du Lac. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Cremation will follow the services.

Mr. Rupp was born in Billings, Mont., son of the late Joseph and Mary (nee Hedges) Rupp. He moved with his family to Fond du Lac in 1920.

He attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High School. Mr. Rupp went on to graduate from J.M. Perry Institute of Engineering in Spokane, Wash.

In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and became a crew member on a B-17 bomber with the 8th Air Force based in England. As a staff sergeant, he was trained as an instrument specialist and flew 25 bombing missions as a tail-gunner during World War II. Mr. Rupp was awarded the Croix de Guerre from the French government for his service during the war.

Mr. Rupp had a special interest in raising Cocker spaniels, showing them in dog shows in Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois. He was also an accomplished equestrian rider and competed in a number of horse shows.

Survivors include his wife Kathro; daughter Bridget (Herb) Moen of Cedarburg; son Bernard (Ellie) of Waukesha; grandchildren Kate, Christian and Megan, all of Cedarburg; brothers Robert (Pat) of Egg Harbor and Richard (Judy) of Eden; sister Catherine Joseph of Austin, Texas; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Rupp.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial in his name is being established.
