John A. Steffke

A memorial service was held Sunday at Schramka-Densow Funeral Home, Thiensville, for John A. Steffke, 46, who died Jan. 29, 2001.
Pastor Jon Pederson of House of Prayer Evangelical Lutheran Church officiated at the ceremony. A reception was held at the Mequon American Legion Post following the service.

Mr. Steffke was born Jan. 26, 1955 in Evanston, Ill., son of the late Stanley and Marcella Steffke. He grew up in Brookfield and attended Brookfield Central High School.

He married Linda Nienow on Oct. 27, 1978 in Brookfield.

Mr. Steffke was the owner of Classic Car Service, Inc. in Mequon, which was established 11 years ago. Friends and family members said he had a passion for restoring classic and antique automobiles.

Survivors include his wife Linda; sons Jason and Mark; brothers Kent, Steve (Susie) and Jim (Lorie) Steffke; father-in-law Richard Nienow; sister-in-law Joan (Tom) Smetena; brother-in-law Tom Nienow; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends;

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to House of Prayer Evangelical Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Andrew J. Kojis, 64

Andrew J. Kojis, of West Bend, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 at St. Joseph's Community Hospital. He was 64.
He was born on Dec. 3, 1936, in West Allis to the late Andrew S. and Anna H. (Urbanik) Kojis. He was raised in West Allis and graduated from Pius XI High School class of 1955. On June 22, 1957, he was married to Barbara Hegner at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Greendale. Together they made their home in West Allis until moving to West Bend in 1995.

Andrew was employed as a plumber for 45 years, working with Ideal Plumbing until his retirement in 1991 and was a member of the U.A. Plumbers Local #75.

He was also a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church in West Bend.

Andrew enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Shawano Lake and boated every day. He also enjoyed traveling and remodeling.

He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart Barbara and four daughters; Kathi Kusch of West Bend, Nancy (Wally) Turk of West Bend, Susan (Michael) Rossa of West Bend, and Mary (Gregory) Schmidt of West Allis.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Andrew Kusch, Ryan Kusch, Chelsea Turk, Amber Turk, Kyle Turk, Kevin Schmidt, Jenny Schmidt, Aaron Schmidt, and Amy Schmidt; a sister, Marge (Wayne) Mundigler of Shawano; his father-in-law, John T. Hegner of Waukesha; a brother-in-law, John T. (Kathleen) Hegner, Jr. of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; and an uncle, John (Carole) Kojis of West Allis and other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Feb. 12, at noon at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with Rev. Jeffrey Haines presiding. Visitation will be Monday at the church only from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be at St. Matthias Catholic Cemetery in West Allis on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Memorials to Kettle Moraine Oncology appreciated. The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home of West Bend is assisting the family.

Ralph J. Zeckmeister

Funeral services were held Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in Saukville for Ralph J. Zeckmeister, 75, of Saukville, who passed away at his winter home in Harlingen, Texas on Feb. 3, 2001.
Mr. Zeckmeister was born on Sept. 13, 1925 the son of Anthon and Catherine (nee Berrens) Zechmeister. He worked as a maintenance mechanic for Simplicity in Port Washington. He was a member of the American Legion Post 470 of Saukville, the Newburg Sportsman’s Club and the IAM Machinist Union 1430. He was also an avid outdoorsman all his life.

Survivors include: wife Bernice (nee Knop); children Gerald (Sheila) of West Bend, Randal of Saukville, and Michael (Tracy) of Antigo; grandchildren Shaun, Melissa, Benjamin, Ashley and Nathan; brother Anton Jr. (Ruth) Zeckmeister of West Bend; sisters Jane Fahney of West Bend and Alice (Robert) Fechter of Saukville.

Memorials can be made to the Ozaukee Humane Society or Bethesda Lutheran Home.

Alfred C. Kraus

A memorial service was held Sunday at Cedar Bay Chapel in West Bend for Alfred C. Kraus, who died Feb. 7, 2001 at the age of 87. His cremated remains will be placed at Old Settlers Rest in Mequon.
Mr. Kraus was born July 15, 1913 in Grafton, son of William and Ella (nee Prowatzke) Kraus. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School and Grafton High School, as well as college in Madison.

Mr. Kraus worked as a milkman for Borden’s and was a member of Teamsters Local 200.

He married Ruth Clausing on May 13, 1941 in Mequon.

Survivors include son John (Nancy) Kraus; grandson Matthew (Nancy Jo) Kraus; great-grandchild Cameron; sister Eleanor (Fred) Sendik; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arnold and William, sister Hildegarde and beloved wife Ruth.

Memorials would be appreciated to Cedar Campuses Benevolent Corp., 5595 Hwy. Z, West Bend, WI 53095.

Walter F. Bruss

Cedarburg resident Walter F. Bruss died Feb. 8, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee at the age of 92.
Funeral services will be held today at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cedarburg. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. memorial service. Interment will be at Zur Ruhe Cemetery, Cedarburg. Mueller Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Mr. Bruss was born Oct. 8, 1908 in Freistadt, son of the late Alvin and Lydia (nee Wetzel) Bruss. He married Laura Gierach on Sept. 12, 1936 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Freistadt, and she preceded him in death.

Mr. Bruss worked at Doerr Electric in Cedarburg for 33 years, retiring in the late-1970s. He was also a longtime active member of First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg.

Survivors include daughters Lois (Rev. Arthur) Dingel of Sheboygan and Eunice (Robert) Keske of West Bend; sons Frederick (Rosemary) Bruss of Belgium and Richard (Darien) Bruss of Adelaid, Australia; 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 1 brother-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister.

Memorials to the First Immanuel Organ Fund would be appreciated.

Scott A. Toth
Scott A. Toth, 44, of West Bend, died Saturday, Feb.10, 2001, at his residence following a two-year battle with leukemia.

He was born Aug. 2, 1956, in Cleveland, to Eugene and Marty Toth and married Mary S. Shanley on Dec. 20, 1986, in Waukesha.

Scott grew up in Menomonee Falls, attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls,and received a bachelor's degree from UWM.

He was very interested in renaissance re-enactment and enjoyed making chain mail, armor and weapons.

Scott was a member of the recovering community for 17 years. He was an AODA-CADC-3 counselor at Kettle Moraine Treatment Center before being employed at Weasler Engineering as a safety trainer.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Susan of West Bend and Natassia of Fort Jackson, S.C.; his parents, Eugene and Marty of Hot Springs Village, Ark; a sister, Tracey Toth of Brooklyn, N.Y.

He is further survived by Mary's parents, Robert and Joan Shanley of Menomonee Falls; two brothers-in-law, Patrick (Victoria) Shanley of New Berlin and Daniel (Kelly) Shanley of Waukesha; a sister-in-law, Ann Shanley-Jones of Milwaukee;his dog, Bubba; his cat, Phoebe; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend.

Father Michael Petersen will be the presider.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 p.m. until a prayer vigil at 8 p.m., and also Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

Nathan J. Nigh
Nathan J. Nigh, 74, of Kewaskum, passed away at home on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, surrounded by his family following a brief illness.

He was born on July 22, 1926, in the town of Auburn, to the late Walter and Lucille (Harter) Nigh, and on June 17, 1947, married Lucille Schoofs at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum.

During his life, Mr.Nigh was the owner and operator of Barton Dairy, farmed, was employed by Bermico Co., St. Michael's Hospital, and prior to his illness was a driver for Johnson School Bus in West Bend.

He was a member of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in West Bend, a 55-year member of the Knights of Columbus Father Casper Rehrl Council 1964 West Bend, the Casper Rehrl Pastoral Care Ministry, the St. Joseph Society and the Young at Heart Club.

Survivors include his wife; 15 children, Sr. Lucy Nigh (School Sisters of Notre Dame) of Milwaukee, Nancy (Bob) Punzenberger of West Bend, Carol (Peter) Polverini of St. Paul, Minn., Perry (Gloria) Nigh of Greendale, Michael (Debbie) Nigh of Kewaskum, Julie (Greg) Ogi of Kewaskum, Joseph (Daniela) Nigh of Madison, Nathalie Ertel of Little Falls, Minn., Susan (Jim) Franz of Schaumburg, Ill., Kevin Nigh and his friend Judy, of Kewaskum, Jeffrey (Carol) Nigh of Kewaskum, Teresa (Brian) Dreher of Kewaskum, Amy (Ric) Leitheiser of West Bend, Sandy (Steve) Seitz of Campbellsport and Paul Nigh of West Bend;three sisters, Rosemary (Warren) Eigenberger of Sheboygan Falls, Marilyn (Charles) Ostermann of Belgium and Judy (John) Rose of Grafton; a brother, Duane (Jeanne) Nigh of Cascade; 31 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were a son, Tommy, and two grandsons, David Leitheiser and Charlie Ogi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, West Bend.

Father Mark Jones will officiate, and burial of the cremains will be held at a later date in Holy Trinity Catholic Church Cemetery, Kewaskum.

Friends may call at the Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until an 8 p.m. prayer vigil, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Thursday.

Dorothy A. "Dottie" Margelowsky
Dorothy A. "Dottie" Margelowsky, nee Kohler, of Hartford, passed away on Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at her daughter's residence, at the age of 70.

She was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Menomonee Falls to Mathias and Theresa (nee Hoffman) Kohler.

She worked at the former St. Joseph's Hospital in Hartford for 20 years, and was administrator of Bell Garden Manor in California for 18 years.

Survivors include a son, Todd Margelowsky of Hartford; two daughters, Debra (Craig) Kodai of Louisiana and Kim (Fred) Peters of Hartford; six grandchildren, Michelle (Davey) Bartlett, Abbie Peters (special grandson, Kyle Friday), Stephanie Margelowsky, Carrie (Curtis) Krohn, Scott (Shawna) Kodai and Brian (Cindy) Kodai; five great-grandchildren; six sisters, Mary Fetkenhauer of Hartford, Rosie (Robert) Wenninger of Hartford, Elizabeth (Robert) Schaefer of Iron Ridge, Anne Kay of Pittsville, Helen Hackbarth of Hartford and Joanne (William) Sturm of Spencer; two brothers, Matthew (Elvira) Kohler of Hartford and Walter (Virginia) Kohler of Germantown; four brothers-in-law, Robert Raasch of West Bend, Ken (Marie) Margelowsky of California, John (Marlene) Margelowsky of Hustisford and Marvin Kluge of Iron Ridge; a sister-in-law, Sally Martinson of Iron Ridge; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her special friend, Wallace Margelowsky; three sons, Wayne, Joseph and Terry; three brothers, Steven, Francis and Anthony; a sister, Theresa Raasch; three brothers-in-law, Kenneth Kay, Harold Hackbarth and William Fetkenhauer; and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Kohler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Kilian Catholic Church.

Father Michael Petrie will officiate, and interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Shimon Funeral Home Hartford, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Memorials to the family are appreciated.

Special thanks to Mary Fetkenhauer, Rosie Wenninger, Brenda Schellinger, Patti Behnke, Dr. Lewis and Horizon Hospice for their tender loving care of mom during her last days.
