Mary Jane Rhode
Mary Jane Rhode, nee Leverance, 80, of Slinger, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at St. Luke's Medical Center of Milwaukee.

She was born June 26, 1920, in Milwaukee, to the late Emil and Barbara (Strupp) Leverance.

She lived her entire life in Slinger, attended St. Peter's Grade School, and graduated in 1938 from Messmer High School.

After her marriage to Harland A. Rhode on June 21, 1941, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Slinger, the couple stayed in Slinger.

She was an executive secretary at Schuster's Department Store for over 10 years and later worked for Slinger Foundry and Manufacturing for over 35 years, retiring in 1995.

Mary Jane was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church of Slinger, the Christian Mother's Society, the Legion of Mary, a 67-year church choir member and an alumni of St. Peter's Grade School.

She was an avid gardener, canner, quilter, bingo player, sheepshead player and an accomplished musician.

She was the beloved wife of Harland; dear mother of Stephen (Janet) Rhode of Wauwatosa, Barbara (Robert) Schuelke of Menomonee Falls, David (Kay) Rhode of Slinger and John (Bridget) Rhode of Menomonee Falls; adoring grandmother of Alissa, Molly, Angelyn, Jeff, Tim, Elizabeth, Claire and Madeleine; and great-grandmother of Benjamin, Thomas and Henry; cherished sister of Maurice (Jeanette) Leverance of Slinger. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Slinger.

Father Robert J. Bales will officiate, and interment will follow in Old St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation at the church only will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Memorials are appreciated to the St. Peter's School Scholarship Fund.

The Phillip Funeral Home, Slinger, is assisting the family.

Dorene Flemming

Dorene Flemming, 77, of Germantown, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 16, 1923, the loving daughter of Alfred and Irene Schwalbach of Germantown, graduated from Germantown Grade School, Rufus King High School and attended the Business Institute of Milwaukee.

Dorene was a member of the Calvary Community Church of Germantown where she served as the Sunday School superintendent for 20 years and directed the junior choir.

She was employed by the Germantown Mutual Insurance Co. and later worked in the Washington County treasurer's office for 18 years.

After her retirement she served as clerk for the town of Germantown.

Dorene had many hobbies and she cherished the companionship of her family and friends.

She was the beloved wife of Herman C. Flemming for 58 years; loving mother of Randall and Richard; proud mother-in-law to Mariann Flemming and grandmother to Kate.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, at 4 p.m. at the Schmidt and Bartelt, A.A. Schmidt and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Menomonee Falls.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.

Dorene and her family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Community Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital of Milwaukee, University Hospital of Madison and Horizon Home Hospice.

Amy L. Waters, 75
Amy L. Waters, nee Braxmeier, of the town of Farmington, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Cedar Crossing Rehabilitation Center, West Bend, at the age of 75.

She was born Oct. 29, 1925, in Menasha, to the late Frederick and Belle (nee Mlada) Braxmeier.

In 1943 she moved to Milwaukee and on Sept. 13, 1947, married Joseph C. Waters Jr. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in West Allis.

In 1963 the couple moved to the town of Farmington and started Lazy Days Campground, which they still own and operate.

Amy was a member of St. Andrew Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend.

Survivors include her husband; four children, Joseph C. (Carol) Waters III of Batavia, Frederic (Patricia) Waters of Kewaskum, Ellen (Jimmy) Votaw of Oak Creek and Eric Waters of the town of Farmington; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ellen Plude of Land ‘O Lakes; a son-in-law, James Czaja of New London; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were a daughter, Lisa Czaja, and a sister, Ellen Bourdo.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 26, at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend.

Rev. Bryan O'Connor and Rev. George Mumm will officiate, and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation at the church only will be Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorials to St. Andrew Ev. Lutheran Church Building Fund are appreciated.

The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home West Bend, is serving the family.

Cyril V. "Cy" Larson

Funeral services will be held today for Cyril V. "Cy" Larson, 79, who died Feb. 22, 2001.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. at Schramka-Densow Funeral Home, 423 N. Main St., Thiensville, followed by a 2 p.m. service.

Mr. Larson was a member of Howard J. Schroeder American Legion Post #457 and VFW Post #9207.

Survivors include his wife, Mae (nee Wong) Larson, daughters Jonelle (John) Kettman of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Janice (Jim) Daley of Cedarburg; sons Greg Larson of San Diego and Grant (Steffi) Larson of Ludwigsburg, Germany; grandchildren Jeff Wachs, Christina (Rick) Zembrowski, Jim and Jennie Daley, Paulina and Louisa Larson; great-grandchildren Jordan and Brandon Zembrowski.

He is further survived by three sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

LaVonne L. Hanson

A funeral service was held Friday at Community United Methodist Church in Cedarburg for LaVonne L. Hanson, 70, of Cedarburg, who died on Feb. 20, 2001. Rev. Pete Peterson officiated at the ceremony. Burial was at Immanuel Cemetery in Cedarburg. Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, handled the arrangements.
Mrs. Hanson was born Oct. 6, 1930 in Royal Oak, Mich., daughter of Charles and Murna (nee Camaron) Dehler. She married Lewis Hanson on June 20, 1953 in Wisconsin. She was a lifelong member of Community United Methodist Church and was a first grade teacher at Hacker, Westlawn and Parkview schools.

Survivors include: husband Lewis Hanson of Cedarburg; sons Jim (fiancee Nazli Yesller) Hanson of Royal Oak, Mich., John Hanson of Cedarburg; daughter Julie (Brian Kelley) Hanson of Minneapolis, Minn.; granddaughter Gwendolyn Kelley of Minneapolis, Minn.

Further survived by other relatives and friends.

Florence E. Hall
Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg for Florence E. Hall (nee Gramoll), 87, of Cedarburg, formerly of Mequon, who died on Feb. 21, 2001 Interment was at Wisconsin Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hall was born in Cedarburg on Nov. 9, 1913 to the late Arthur and Augusta (nee Mueller) Gramoll, and married the late Herbert Hall on Feb. 10, 1951 in Milwaukee.

Besides being a homemaker, she drove a school bus in the Cedarburg School District and worked for the Thiensville Post Office. Mrs. Hall was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include: children Shirley (Vern) Schinker of Grafton, Pamela (Larry) Straus and Pauline (Mark) Masuhr; sister Olivia Grube of Mequon; sister-in-law Florence Gramoll; step-daughter Patricia (John) Booth of Beloit; daughter-in-law Astrid Brewer of Thousand Oaks, Calif.

She is further survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by son Kenneth Breuer, grandson Keith Schinker, brother Elwood Gramoll and sister Dorothy Hilgendorf.

Memorials to the American Diabetes Foundation appreciated.

Richard L. "Dick" Curley

A memorial service was held Sunday at Community United Methodist Church in Cedarburg for Richard L. "Dick" Curley, 76, of West Bend, formerly of Cedarburg, who died on Feb. 19, 2001. Rev. Pete Peterson and Rev. Lowell Bartel officiated at the ceremony. Inurnment took place at Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg. Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Curley was born May 29, 1924 in Royal Oak, Mich., son of Laine and Florence (nee Hanson) Curley. He married Barbara (nee Cooper) on June 12, 1949 in Madison.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in WWII in the Photo Division in China and was a member of the 14th Air Force Assoc. Mr. Curley graduated from UW-Madison in 1949 and received his master’s in 1950. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Cedarburg and worked as an agricultural researcher at Nitragin Co. in Milwaukee.

Survivors include: wife Barbara Curley of West Bend; daughters Kathleen (Charles) Divine of Mequon and Jill (Connie) Waterman of Wautoma; son Dale (Debra) Curley of Cedarburg; grandchildren Alexis Divine, Shanna and Trent Waterman, Zach, Sam, Hannah and Liz Curley; cousin Glenn (Joan) Hanson of Rockton, Ill.

He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Mr. Curley was preceded in death by a son Bruce Curley.

Memorials to Alzheimer’s Association or Community United Methodist Church are appreciated.
