Joseph W. "Grandpa Joe" Schaefer

Joseph W. "Grandpa Joe" Schaefer, 83, of West Bend, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at the Samaritan Health Center.
He was born Nov. 12, 1917, in the town of Herman, to the late William and Anna (Weiss) Schaefer, was raised in Washington County, and graduated from Slinger High School in 1936.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1940-’45.

After his marriage to Myrna J. Schultz on Oct. 16, 1948, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend, the couple lived in West Bend.

He was employed as a U.S. postal employee for the Federal Government in West Bend for over 30 years, retiring in 1973.

Joe was a man of faith. He lived his faith through his every day interactions with others.

After his retirement his love for children blossomed into volunteer work with children with disabilities. He worked with children at Decorah School and other schools and chaperoned Special Olympic events. He also volunteered at the Samaritan Health Center.

Joe's children and grandchildren will always remember him with a smile and a trick up his sleeve. The effects of his love, patience, compassion and sense of humor will live on in them.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Paula (John) Storck of Mayville and Anne (Russell) Robbins of St. Paul, Minn.; six grandchildren, Eric, Michael and Julie Storck, and Elaine, Peter and Stephen Robbins; a brother, Herbert (marlene) Schaefer of Union Grove; a brother-in-law, Dennis (Eyvonne) Schultz of South Milwaukee; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Joe was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the VFW Post 1393 of West Bend.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church.

Father John Wutscheck officiated, and cremation took place at Parkview Crematory in Fond du Lac with interment of ashes in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Memorials are appreciated to The Threshold or Holy Angels School Trust Fund.

Carol J. Wolf
Carol J. Wolf, nee Brunk, 69, of West Bend, was born into eternal life on Sunday, March 18, 2001.

Carol was born in Milwaukee on Jan. 3, 1932, to the late Carlos and Viola Brunk, where she graduated from South Division High School.

She was the beloved wife of 50 years of William J. Wolf; loving mother of Denis (Patti) Wolf of Hartford, Michael (Jean) Wolf of South Milwaukee, William Jr. (Linda) Wolf of Brookfield, Richard Wolf of Clayton, N.C. and Debra (Robert) Holden of Hyde Park, N.Y.; cherished grandmother of 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; dear sister of Joyce Schuck of Cudahy and the late Sharon Lang.

She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

After living in North Carolina and retirement, Carol and Bill traveled by RV for several years, which she loved, before settling in West Bend.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend.

Pastor Vernon A. Smith will officiate, and interment will take place in Valhalla Memorial Park, Milwaukee, at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Visitation at the funeral home only will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.

Carol is at peace now, for all eternity, with our loving heavenly father.

Carol Huss
Carol Huss, 37, of Brownsville, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.

She was born June 19, 1963, in Grosse Pointe, Mich., to Joseph and Faith (Minne) Van Toll.

On Oct. 6, 1984, she married Lyle G. Huss at St. John's Catholic Church in Little Chute.

Carol worked at AAL in Appleton for 11 years, for four years at Society Insurance in Fond du Lac, and most recently at West Bend Mutual Insurance.

She enjoyed supporting all her children's activities.

Survivors include her husband; two children, Erin and Brendan, at home; her mother, Faith, and stepfather, Everett Ross of Western Springs, Ill.; her parents-in-law, Robert and Mildred Huss of Little Chute; seven brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl Huss, Roger and Ann Huss, Dennis and Donna Day, Steve and Karen Boldt, Dale and Sharon Rohloff, Keith and Jodie Huss and Allan and Julie Huss.

Further surviving are special friends, Ross and Deb Marquette, Richard and Amy Moore and Mark and Melissa Kienast; her step-grandmother, Irma Van Toll; and Carol's dog, Beau

Preceding her in death were her father, Joseph, and her paternal and maternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lomira.

Rev. Gary Liedtke will officiate, and cremation will follow.

Visitation at the church will be Thursday from 3 p.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

The Kietzer Funeral Home, Lomira, is serving the family.

Richard L. Richter
Richard L. Richter, 72, of Slinger, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at his home.

He was born Feb. 7, 1929, in Milwaukee, to the late Arthur O. and Cathryn (nee Wahlig) Richter.

Richard graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee with a major in science. He had an absolute love for physics. He was the co-captain of the swim team and president of the camera club. he also attended the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and Madison.

Richard served his country as a courier in the U.S. Army in Korea. He received the Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.

Richard and Irene Muellenbach met while working at the Chalet on the Lake, Donges Bay Road, Mequon, where they had many fond memories.

They married on Aug. 6, 1955, and for the last 38 years resided in Cedar Lake Hills, Slinger. Richard designed and built the home they lived in.

He was a dealer with Clark Oil Gas Station, for 23 years until retiring.

Prior to this Richard was a salesman for Kenron Awning and Window Corporation of Milwaukee.

Survivors include three daughters, Lisa (Rick) Beder of Campbellsport, Katie (Joseph) Wholean of Verona and Julie (David) Yerges of McFarland; a son, Rick of Slinger; five grandchildren, Devin Beder, Clair and Quinn Wholean, Hunter and Alexandra Yerges; a sister, Kathryn Wendorf of Slinger; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife; a brother, Arthur; and a sister, Rosemary Beck.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 24, at noon at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Slinger.

James Allen Roberts
James Allen Roberts, M.D., M.S., 54, of Los Altos Hills, Calif., passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at his residence.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Rosemary (nee Frankow) Roberts; three children, James, Brian and Maureen; his mother, Florence; brothers, Daniel and John; sisters, Sandra and Theresa; and his parents-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Raymond Frankow of West Bend.

Dr. Roberts was a 1969 graduate of UCLA and a 1973 graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin.

He was a professor at the Stanford University Medical Center.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 21, at St. Nicholas Church, Los Altos.

Interment will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos.

Anna C. Meissner
Anna C. Meissner, nee Halper, 90, of Germantown, formerly of West Bend, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Community Memorial Hospital, Menomonee Falls.

She was born Oct. 17, 1910, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Joseph and Maria (Kopfer) Halper, and married Charles E. Meissner on Dec. 6, 1930, in Chicago.

Her husband passed away on April 6, 1977.

She loved to crochet afghans, collect antique dolls, sing in the choir, play the piano and read the Bible.

Survivors include two children, Charles (Sherry) Meissner of West Bend and Phyllis (the late George) Kennell of Fort Collins, Colo.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Peggy Heston of Minnesota; a brother, William "Billy" Halper of Chicago; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 22, at 6 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend.

Pastor Bruce Dunford will officiate, and interment will be in Pinelawn Cemetery, Milwaukee, at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated.
