Louis C. Rutz
Louis C. Rutz, 79, of West Bend, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.

He was born Oct. 26, 1921, in West Allis, to the late Louis T. and Louise (nee Kehrer) Rutz, and married Rosemary Weber on Aug. 10, 1946, in Milwaukee.

Louis served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in the European Theater.

He worked as a police officer in the city of West Allis from 1951 until retiring in 1978.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member and past master of the West Allis Masonic Lodge 291 F&AM.

He was also a member of the Day Lite Lodge 350 in West Allis and was a former member of the Tripoli Shrine and the Legion of Honor.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Sandra (James) Lembke of Menomonee Falls, Daniel (Anne) Rutz of Marietta, Ga. and Thomas (Cindy) Rutz of West Allis; seven grandchildren, Cyndi Lembke, Judi Lembke, Tony Lembke, Christine Rutz, Marianne Rutz, Daniel Rutz, and David Rutz; a sister, Inez Tennies of West Bend; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Masonic services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, followed immediately by the funeral service.

Rev. Curtis Schowalter of St. John's United Church of Christ, Kohlsville, will officiate, and cremation will follow with inurnment of the cremated remains in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society or St. John's United Church of Christ, Kohlsville, are appreciated.

Elsmer C. Pieper
Elsmer C. Pieper, 88, of Mayville, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du lac.

He was born July 22, 1912, in Mayville, to the late Frank and Louise (Wendorf) Pieper, an married Esther Kunz on Oct. 19, 1935, in Mayville.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Rita (Edwin) Boos of Rochester, Minn.; two sons, Thomas (Mary Ann) Pieper of Crandon and Joseph (Judith) Pieper of West Bend; sisters and brothers, Elhart (Marion) Pieper, Franklyn "Franny" Pieper and Adeline Benzel, all of Mayville, and Ilona Sawyer of Burnett; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife and a sister.

He had been employed at Maysteel, retiring in 1977.

Elsmer was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mayville, a 66-year member of the Boy Scouts of America Bay Lakes Council, National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps alumni, Maysteel Quarter Century Club, Knights of Columbus, Mayville Historical Society and donated items to Civilian Conservation Corps Museum in Rhinelander.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 31, at 11 a.m. at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville, to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayville, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m.

Fr. Charles Wester will officiate, and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Mayville.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., and also on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Carl R. Anderson
Carl R. Anderson, 85, of West Bend, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at his residence.

He was born July 16, 1915, in Rhinelander, to the late Edwin and Ella (nee Erickson) Anderson, and at an early age moved with his family to Porterfield where he grew up.

On June 18, 1938, he married Gertrude Hanson in Porterfield. Together they moved to West Bend in 1947 and he became the manager of Brittingham & Hixon Lumber Co. He worked there for 34 years until retiring in 1981.

Carl was a member and former deacon of Immanuel United Church of Christ, a member and past master of West Bend Masonic Lodge 138 F&AM, Scottish Rite, chaplain and trustee of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 73 of West Bend, and the West Bend Noon Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include his loving wife; four children, Carol (Allan) Walters of Hamilton, Mont., Edwin (Linda) Anderson, James Anderson and Linda (Rob) Blair, all of West Bend; nine grandchildren, Sara Walters, Christopher (Kae) Anderson, Timothy (Emily) Anderson, James Eckart, Jason Eckart, Jenna Eckart, Ryan Blair, Alex Blair and Marty Blair; three great-grandchildren, Zachary Anderson, Emilee Anderson and Xavier Wasner; a brother, Howard (Marilyn) Anderson of Porterfield; three sisters-in-law, Marylou Kline of Menomonie, Elaine Anderson of Seney, Mich. and Milly Hanson of Porterfield; two brothers-in-law, Henry (Irene) Hanson of Neosho and Andrew (Marie) Hanson of Marinette; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were two grandchildren, Lisa and Jeff Walters; a sister, Clarice McDougal; and two brothers, Warren Anderson and Walter Kline.

Masonic services will be held at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, on Saturday, March 31, at 4:30 p.m., immediately followed by the funeral service with Rev. Sharon Stier of Immanuel United Church of Christ, West Bend, officiating.

Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society or the Full Shelf Food Pantry of West Bend are appreciated.

Armond B. Starr
Armond B. Starr, 88, of Fond du Lac, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.

He was born Jan. 4, 1913, in Hartford, to the late Edwin and Rose (Schmidt) Starr, and married Sybilla Goetz.

He was a retiree of Mercury Marine, Fond du Lac.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Elizabeth (the late John) Smith, Jean (Howard) Larsen and James (Mary Jane) Starr; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clara (Donald) Ackatz, Gladys (Fred) Lentz; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death was a sister, Alice Gaureke.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 31, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Hartford. Burial will be in St. Kilian's Cemetery, Hartford.

Visitation at the church only will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

The Matenaer-Schramka Funeral Home, Hartford, is serving the family.

Mary ‘Molly’ M. Miller
Mary "Molly" M. Miller, 88, of Baraboo died on Thursday, March 29, 2001, at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo.

She was born on Feb. 14, 1913, at Rock Bridge, Wisconsin, the daughter of Austin and Ellen (Spry) Carle. She married Milo Miller on Jan. 3, 1931 in LaValle and he preceded her in death on July 18, 1978.

She had worked as a production worker for Oscar Mayer for more than 20 years, retiring in 1973. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Baraboo. Molly loved to drive and go for rides and play cards.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sisters; daughter, Majorie Abraham; infant daughter, Sandra; great-granddaughter, Terri Rockett; and three infant great-grandchildren.

Molly is survived by two children, Betty (Ralph) Blum of West Baraboo and Raymond "Red" (Lucille) Miller of Allenton; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Rago Funeral Home in Baraboo with Rev. Myron Schwanke officiating. Interment will take place in Walnut Hill Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Monday.

Joseph Meyer
Joe Meyer, 75, of Fredonia, died early Friday morning, March 30, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital in West Bend after undergoing surgery.

He was born Nov. 2, 1925 in the town of Port Washington, son of the late Gilbert and Rose Schuessler Meyer. On Aug. 19, 1950, he married Carol Dreps at St. John’s Catholic Church in Kohler.

The couple farmed in the town of Fredonia. Joe was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Fredonia and the National Farmers Organization. He enjoyed woodworking, antique tractors and was the family genealogist.

Joe is survived by his wife, Carol, four sons, Nicholas (Jean) of West Bend, Bernard (Linda) of Waldo, Vincent (Jane) of Boltonville and Andrew of Mayville; three daughters, Rita (Ronald) Wiedmeyer of Theresa, Dorothy (Gary) Langenecker of Allenton and Judy (Ronald) Bauer of Mayville; 26 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Ted (Mary Ann) Meyer of Newton, Gilbert (Loretta) Meyer of Fredonia, Leonard Meyer of Plymouth and Eugene (Mary) Meyer of Port Washington; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren Adam and Mathew; one brother, George; and one sister-in-law, Martha Meyer.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Fredonia, with Father Neil Zinthefer officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington (Highway 33 and LL), Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and the church Monday after 10 a.m. A parish vigil will be held at the funeral home Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

James G. Fehring
James G. Fehring, 70, of West Bend, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at his residence.

He was born May 5, 1930, in Milwaukee, to the late John and Ermgard (nee Melk) Fehring, and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

In the early 1960s he came to West Bend where he married Bette Beck (nee Birzer) on June 13, 1970.

Together they owned and operated the Pik Place for 17 years.

Jim loved working with wood, crafting many articles that were sold at the Pik Place.

His wife passed away June 1, 1995.

Survivors include three stepchildren, John Beck of Slinger, Jane Beck and James (Bonnie) Beck, both of West Bend; two step-grandsons, Tom and Tim Beck, both of West Bend; two sisters, Joyce Steffan of Menomonee Falls and Jean (Don) Catanni of Slinger; a brother, Robert of Ripon; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 2, at 10 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend.

Father Jeffrey Haines will officiate, and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m., and also Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
