Eugene H. Sawyer
Eugene H. Sawyer, 69, of the town of Wescott, Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 31, 2001, in Wausau.
He was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Milwaukee, to the late Ralph and Pauline (Oberleinter) Sawyer, graduated from West Bend High School in 1949, and later from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
On Aug. 29, 1953, he married Shirley Mae Myear in Allenton. The couple resided in the West Bend area where Gene was employed by The West Bend Aluminum Co., Pick Mfg. Co. and then Phenix Mfg. Co. for 34 years, moving to Shawano in 1966.
In 1990 the Sawyers relocated to Warsaw, Ind. where he worked for the Safeway Door Co., returning to Shawano in 1993. He was currently employed by PlyCo Corp of Elkhart Lake.
For many years Gene also owned and operated Ralph Sawyer and Son Garage Door Co.
Gene enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and was well known as an avid golfer and bowler recognized for 300 and 299 games and was inducted into the Shawano Area Bowling Hall of Fame.
He participated in several leagues and couples leagues for many years.
Survivors include his wife; children, Kass (Kristi) Sawyer of Neenah, Kay (Ron) Lotto of Cecil, Kim (Nolan) Meyers of Shawano; grandchildren Krya Sawyer, George A. Dillenburg Jr., Christopher Dillenburg Matisen and Morgan Meyers; his mother-in-law, Olga Myear of Shawano; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 4, at 11 a.m. at the Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano, with Pastor Jeff Preitt, officiating.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m., and after 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services.
Elvira H. Hetebrueg
Elvira H. Hetebrueg, nee Dohrwardt, 61, of the town of Trenton, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at the Samaritan Health Center, West Bend.
She was born July 18, 1939, in West Bend, to Alfred and Veronica (Otto) Dohrwardt, and graduated from West Bend High School in 1957.
After her marriage to Edward J. Hetebrueg on June 13, 1959, at Holy Angels Parsonage of West Bend, the couple lived in the town of Trenton where they farmed.
She was employed at Gehl Mfg. Co. of West Bend for over 15 years, retiring in February of 2001.
She was a past leader of the Myraneer's 4-H Club of Washington County.
Survivors include her husband; three children, Eugene (Brenda) Hetebrueg, Ellen (Mark) Schaefer and Eric (Tracy) Hetebrueg, all of West Bend; five grandchildren, Tyler Hetebrueg, Melissa and Mark Jr. Schaefer, Andrew and Kaitlyn Hetebrueg; her mother, Veronica Dohrwardt of West Bend; a sister, Sylvia (August Jr.) Fechter of West Bend; two brothers, Franklin (Barb) of Leroy and Willard of West Bend; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Her father, Alfred, preceded her in death.
Elvira was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Newburg, St. Augustine Catholic Church, the Christian Mother's Society and the Ozaukee Traffic Club.
Closing of the casket prayers will be Tuesday, April 3, at 9:45 a.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Newburg.
Father Robert G. Sampon will officiate, and interment will be in St. Augustine Cemetery, town of Trenton.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 8 p.m., and Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m.

Geri M. Rickert
Geri M. Rickert, Neenah, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, following a courageous battle with leukemia.
She was born in the Netherlands, to the late John and Wilhelmine (Rutten) Kokke, and married Dr. Thomas Rickert on June 6, 1959, in Appleton.
She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Neenah.
Survivors include her husband; her children Larry (Kerry) Rickert of Wausau, Dr. Robert Rickert of Del Mar, Calif. and his fiancee Dr. Sandra Titzer, Pam (Mike) Patterson of West Bend, Nicki (Erik) Mortensen of Sun Prairie; eight grandchildren, Julie and Emily Rickert of Wausau, Erin, Hayden, Sean, Heather and Nolan Patterson of West Bend, and Annika Mortensen of Sun Prairie; three sisters, Christine (Robert) Ulman, Paula (Richard) Hebeler and Yvonne (Michael) Bauer, all of Appleton.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, April 4, at St. Margaret Mary Church.
Rev. David Koch will officiate, and interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah.
Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the University of California-San Diego Cancer Center.

Ruth Elinor Barber
Ruth Elinor Barber, 91, of Friendswood, Texas, formerly of West Bend, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Webster, Texas.
Ruth was born Aug. 27, 1909, in Volga, S.D., and graduated from a two-year teacher's college.
She spent several years teaching elementary school on a Sioux Indian reservation in South Dakota before marrying her husband of 64 years, the late Robert Stair Barber.
Together they lived and worked 40 years in West Bend prior to residing 10 years in Clear Lake and 10 years in Friendswood.
She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran and Our Savior's Lutheran churches in West Bend, and of House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas.
Ruth was a volunteer worker for the American Red Cross, hospital Pink Ladies, Meals on Wheels and Kiwanis Club, as well as a teacher's aide in public elementary school in West Bend.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Abel of Pleasantville, N.Y.; two sons, Robert James Barber of Jalapa, Veracruz, Mexico, and Gary Barber of Houston; a brother, Bennett Ivan Hove of Grand Forks, B.C., Canada; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 5, at 11 a.m. at the House of Prayer Lutheran Church 1515 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, with Pastor Marcus Otterstadt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to House of Prayer Luther Church or to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, West Bend.

Imelda E. Ritger
Imelda E. Ritger, nee Weninger, 76, of the town of Addison, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at St. Luke's Medical Center, Milwaukee.
She was born Nov. 15, 1924, near Lomira, to the late Jacob and Lucy (nee Oechsner) Weninger. The oldest of 12 children, Imelda helped her mother raise the family.
After her marriage to LeRoy R. Ritger on Dec. 29, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lomira, the couple settled on a farm in the town of Addison.
She helped her husband operate their farm, and they also sold many quality Christmas trees every December.
Imelda loved gardening, especially her flower garden. She also loved quilting, participating in a weekly quilting bee every Thursday at the Addison Town Hall.
She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, and a former member of the Christian Women's Confraternity at Sacred Heart Church.
Survivors include her husband; four children, Gerhard (Rose) of Tracey, Calif., Timothy of West Bend, Cecilia (Russ) Nehm of Slinger and Daniel of West Bend; five grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Kenneth (Eva) of East Dubuque, Ill., Robert of Brownsville, Rodger of Fond du Lac, Michael (Rosemary) of Van Dyne, Elizabeth Beck and George (Mary Ann), both of Lomira, and Lucille (the late Robert) Nowakoski of Milwaukee; two brothers-in-law, Jerome Emmer of Allenton and Richard Feucht of Lomira; LeRoy's brothers and sisters, and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a brother, Cornelius, and three sisters, Caroline Emmer, Margaret Feucht and Mary Weninger.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, at 9:45 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, Allenton.
Father Richard Breitbach will be the presider, and burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 until the 8 p.m. prayer vigil, and also on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
Eugene V. Mills
Eugene V. Mills, 82, of Yuma, Ariz., formerly of West Bend, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Lowville, Wis., to the late Earl and Edna (Woodward) Mills, and married Dorothy Radke on Dec. 11, 1943, in Dubuque, Iowa.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis of Phoenix, Ariz. and Earl (Joyce) of Wickenburg, Ariz.; a daughter, Suzanne (Bernard) Elliott of Yuma; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Erma Jankowski of Princeton and Berniece (Edward) Schueler of Markesan; a nephew; nieces; other relatives and many friends, including those he met when he resided at Cedar Bay.
His wife passed away on Jan. 29, 1997, after 53 years of marriage. Also preceding him in death were five brothers, Howard, Delos, James, Kenneth and an infant brother, Earl, and his much-loved stepson, Donald Hillmer and wife, Marianne.
Eugene's hobbies were building and redesigning machinery, especially related to knitting and fabrics. He held two U.S. patents of which he was very proud.
He worked 10 years for Portage Hosiery, two years at Ripon Knitting Works and 11 years at Handcraft Co. of Princeton. He also worked 14 years at Borg Textiles of Delavan before retiring.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, with interment of ashes in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
Memorials may be given to the Gideons International or a charity of the donor's choice.
Eugene will be sadly missed by family and friends who enjoyed hearing his stories of motorcycling in his youth, his innovative tinkering and building.
He thoroughly enjoyed traveling over the years, and especially being in Arizona for the past three years.
