Francis E. "Fritz" Lechner

Francis E. "Fritz" Lechner, 74, of Hartford, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Hartford Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 6, 1926, in Hartford, to the late Joseph and Cecelia (nee Bingen) Lechner, and married Rosemarie Christ on May 1, 1948, at St. Mary's Church, Woodland.

Fritz served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He worked as a supervisor at Mercury Marine for many years, retiring in 1980. He also worked at Drillmaster for 10 years as a tool and die maker before retiring completely in 1991.

Fritz was a member of St. Kilian Parish, the Hartford VFW Post 8834 and was a volunteer firefighter in Hartford for 27 years.

He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in any sporting activity. Fritz was truly the best Mr. Fix-it.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Thomas (Kristine) of Richfield, Donald (Doris), Joseph (Kathleen) and Robert Lechner, all of Hartford; two daughters, Cheryl (Michael) Checolinski and JoAnn (Pete) Engelke, both of Hartford; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Michelle, Scott, Derek, David, Blake, Ryan, Ricky, Heather, Kristin, Cynthia, Sean and Luke; two brothers, Paul of Ohio and Joseph (Florence) Lechner of St. Germain; three sisters, Florence Perenchio, Bernice Jochem and Dorothy (Don) Menzel, all of Hartford; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents-in-law, Edward and Rose Christ; three sisters, Marie VanBeek, Margaret Reis and Helen Elsinger; seven brothers-in-law, Edgar "Sparky" VanBeek, Joe Reis, Norbert Elsinger, Gordon Perenchio, Ray Jochem, Wally Stucke and Otto Frieman; and a sister-in-law, Sally Frieman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Kilian Catholic Church, Hartford.

Fr. Michael Petrie will officiate, and interment will be in St. Kilian Cemetery, Hartford.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m.

Memorials to the charity of the donor's choice are appreciated.

Beulah Mae Amoth

Beulah Mae Amoth, 69, a resident of West Bend for the past 4 1/2 years and formerly of Beloit, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
She was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Langdon, N.D., the daughter of the late Albert and Agnes White Christensen, and married Kenneth Amoth on Sept. 17, 1950, in Langdon.

He passed away in January 1987.

Beulah was formerly employed by Kohl's Grocery Store in Beloit, retiring in 1973.

Survivors include three sons, Kent (Gwena) Amoth of Redington Beach, Fla., Craig (Holly) Amoth of Cody, Wy. and Terrence (Ruth) Amoth of West Bend; two daughters, Candice (Bruce) Herron and Keri (Brad) Austin, both of Beloit; 11 grandchildren, Scott and Ryan Herron of Beloit, Traci, Tricia and Trent Austin, all of Beloit, Kenneth and Tara Amoth, both of Redington Beach, Colin, Derek and Krista Amoth, all of Cody, and Nolan Amoth of West Bend; two brothers, Ole (Margie) Christensen of Osnabrock, N.D. and Mike (Joyce) Christensen of Pleasant Shade, Tenn.; two sisters, Blanche Knutson of Grand Forks, N.D. and Tresa Kelly of Parson, Kan.; nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were five brothers, Fred, Alton, Victor, Willard and Albert Christensen, and two sisters, Shirley Christensen and Ada Wedwick.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 17, at 2 p.m. in the Daley-Murpy-Wisch and Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit.

Rev. Gene Van Galder will officiate, and burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Raymond "Ray" E. Dembiec

A funeral service was held on Tuesday at St. Borgia Catholic Church for Raymond "Ray" E. Dembiec of Cedarburg, who died April 13, 2001 at the age of 77. Fr. George Gajdos officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton. Burial was held at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Mequon.
Mr. Dembiec was born March 26, 1924 in Milwaukee, son of Valentine and Catherine (nee Zrebiec) Dembiec. He married Bernice Czecholinski and worked as an arborist in the Forestry Department. He was an avid gardener and a member of the square dancing club. He served in the U. S. Navy from June 4, 1943 to Feb. 6, 1946.

Survivors include: wife Bernice Dembiec of Cedarburg; sons Dennis Dembiec of Troy, Mich., Jim (Lynne) Dembiec of Hartland; daughter Janice (Richard) Konkol of Cedarburg; brothers Anthony (Ann) Dembiec of Glendale, Leonard Dembiec of Milwaukee; sister Mary Rosenau of Milwaukee; grandchildren Christian Dembiec of Racine, Daniel Dembiec of Troy, Mich., Scott Dembiec of Glendale, Steven Konkol of Cedarburg.

Further survived by other relatives and friends.

Memorials to the St. Francis Borgia Endowment Fund are appreciated.

Lydia E. Bartell
Funeral services were held on Wednesday at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cedarburg, for Lydia E. Bartell (nee Riemer) of Cedarburg, who died on April 15, 2001, at the age of 88. Interment was held at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in Freistadt. Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, assisted the family.

Mrs. Bartell was born March 4, 1913, to the late Henry and Rosetta (Gierach) Riemer. She married Rev. Theodore R. Bartell on August 24,1935, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church.

Survivors include: children Don (Judi) of Mooresville, N.C., Marv (Judy) of Elmwood Park, Ill., Ted (Carol) of Moorpark, Calif., and Lois (Tom) Giordano of Cedarburg; grandchildren; Keith, Brian, Brent, Brooke, Kent, Scott and Kristin Bartell, Brenda Kitzer, Jon Giordano; brother Norman (Dorothy) Riemer; sisters-in-law Esther Bartell, Alma Riemer.

Further survived by 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Rev. Theodore R Bartell, and by three brothers, Gerhard, Werner and Erwin Riemer.

Memorials to Korean Lutheran Theological University, in Seoul, Korea; Concordia University-River Forest, Ill. or Valparaiso University are appreciated.

Luther C. Smith
Luther C. Smith, 83, of Brookhaven, Miss., died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at the Silver Cross Nursing Home in Brookhaven.

He was born April 11, 1918, in Lincoln County, Miss., to the late Luther M. Smith and Ada Pepper Smith.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the Phillipine Theatre with the 81st Infantry Division.

Luther was a retired carpenter and truck driver, and had worked in several other areas throughout his life.

Survivors include a son, Larry Smith of West Bend; two daughters, Shirley Russell of Brookhaven and Rebecca Smith of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a sister, Nannie Ashford of Starkville, Miss.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a daughter, Virginia Lee McKay, and six sisters, Bertha Vaughn, Mary Lou Summers, Hallie Caston, Myrtle Thompson, Willie McConnell and Jessie Lee Peterson.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at the Harrigill Funeral Home, Brookhaven.

Rev. Wylie Reid officiated, and interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Brookhaven.

Karl Garret Haack
Karl Garret Haack, 62 (always 38 years old), of the town of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 15, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.

He was born Dec. 24, 1938, in the town of Auburn, to the late Raymond B. and Hilda (Krause) Haack, and on July 30, 1960, married Joy Garbisch at Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Scott.

Karl was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane where he served on the church council and was a former member of the New Fane Kettle Riders Snowmobile Club.

He was employed by the Gehl Co. in West Bend for eight years until 1966 and was a dairy farmer for 35 years.

Karl shared his love of the land with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Cynthia (Bryant) Borland, Jeffrey (Ann) Haack, Connie (David) Rogne and Wendy (Timothy) Kirst, all of Kewaskum; nine grandchildren, Rachel and Russel Borland, Tyler, Jessica and Stephany Haack, Anthony Rogne Haack and Travis Rogne, Matthew and Samantha Kirst; his mother-in-law, Malinda Garbisch of Random Lake; a brother-in-law, Charles (Beverly) Garbisch of Kewaskum; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Haack of Campbellsport, Janet (Ivan) Kumrow of Random Lake and Joan (John) Schlicht of Kewaskum; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were a nephew, Joel Kumrow; his father-in-law, Raymond Garbisch; his stepmother, Erna Haack; a brother-in-law, Leroy Peterson; and a brother, Martin Haack.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane.

Rev. Mark Eckert will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from noon until the time of services.

Memorials to St. John Lutheran Church Preschool are appreciated.

The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum is serving the family.

Joyce A. Gorman
Joyce A. Gorman, nee Weis, 53, entered into the loving arms of her Father in heaven on Sunday, April 15, 2001, at her residence in West Bend, following a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.

She was born Nov. 14, 1947, in West Bend, to Richard and Adeline (nee Volm) Weis, and married James F. Gorman on Aug. 18, 1967, at St. Frances Cabrini Church, West Bend.

She attended St. Frances Cabrini Grade School and was in the first graduating class in 1961. She graduated from West Bend High School in 1965.

In the early years of her life she worked in a clerical position at The West Bend Co. and later was employed as a legal secretary for Attorney Luke Kauth. In later years she served as a teacher's aide at Creative Preschool Experiences Inc. for seven years.

Joyce was also a member of the Cabrini Christian Women and served on various committees over the years.

For many years she was responsible for arranging the publicity for the St. Frances Cabrini festivals. She also was a pastoral care minister for her parish and coordinated the Eucharistic Ministers for all three West Bend parishes at St. Joseph's Community Hospital for 15 years.

Joyce and her husband served as advocates for the Hmong refugee families for several years. In addition she also assisted Richard Berres as caretaker for many years.

Joyce and her husband spent many weekends and vacations motor home camping and fishing Wisconsin and Minnesota lakes.

She was loved and will be dearly missed by Jim, her husband of 33 years; her daughters, Laura Daugherty of Kewaskum, Jennifer (Brad) Zuba and Angie (Doug) Wartgow, both of West Bend; a grandson, Andrew Daugherty; her parents, Richard and Adeline Weis of West Bend; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Gorman of Fond du Lac and Mary Ann (Joseph) Marks of Columbia, Mo.

She is further survived by several aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, William and Agnes Volm and Frank and Emma Weis; her parents-in-law, Chester and Evelyn Gorman; brothers-in-law, Robert Gorman and Joseph Marks; a nephew, David Marks; and a son-in-law, Shane Daugherty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church, West Bend.

Father Jeffrey Haines will be the presider, and burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Cemetery.

Visitation at the church only will be Wednesday from 4 to 6:45 p.m.

Memorials are appreciated to the Haiti Mission Program, the Cabrini "Building on our Blessings" program or the charity of the donor's choice.

The Schmidt Funeral Home of West Bend is serving the family.
