Roy Charles VanBrunt

Roy Charles VanBrunt, 98, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at the Samaritan health Center, West Bend.
He was born Feb. 14, 1903, in Sand Creek, Wis., to the late William and Phoebe (Winget) VanBrunt, and married Viola Marguerite Yerges in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Sept. 30, 1932.

Viola passed away on June 9, 1982.

His present wife, Mildred (Pleshek) and he resided in West Bend.

Roy graduated from Colfax High School and Milwaukee Teacher's College with a BS degree in secondary education. His master's degree in education was from Marquette University in 1945.

He taught at the Milwaukee County Day School and Wauwatosa High School before starting his own education-related business, Wisconsin Sound Equipment Co. that supplied schools and businesses with audio visual equipment and learning systems..

He was a member of St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa and a 32nd Degree Mason with membership in Wauwatosa #267 F&AM of Wisconsin.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen VanBrunt-Kramer, Ph.D. of West Bend; a stepdaughter, Kay Pleshek Knitter of Madison; a stepson-in-law, Len Knitter of Madison; three grandchildren, Tara Lee Weitermann Johnson of Madison, Holden Jon Kramer of Portchester, N.Y. and Stafford James Kramer of Milwaukee; three step-grandchildren, Len Knitter of Atlanta, Ga., Linda Knitter Bankester of Robertsdale, Ala. and Melissa Knitter of Madison; three great-grandchildren, Travis L. Johnson, Kendra D. Johnson and Dayle A. Johnson of Madison; step-great-grandchildren, Samantha and Timothy Bankester of Robertsdale, Ala.; a sister, Alta VanBrunt Baker of Brookfield; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a brother, Russell, and three sisters, Edna VanBrunt Pecore, Fanny VanBrunt Madison and Addie VanBrunt O'Brien.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 4 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, 1615 Wauwatosa Ave., Wauwatosa.

Rev. Christopher Manke will officiate, and entombment will be at 4 p.m. in Pinelawn Memorial Park Chapel.

Visitation at the church will be Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.

Those who wish may send memorials to the church or the Masonic Home in Dousman.

The Borgwardt Funeral Home, West Allis is assisting the family.

Peter T. Klick

Peter T. Klick, 61, of Hartford, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Hartford Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 14, 1939, in Gordon, Wis., to the late Peter and Elbina (nee Zion) Klick.

Peter worked at Titan Wheel in Slinger for many years.

He loved racing and enjoyed going to races in Slinger, West Salem, Beaver Dam and Superior Way.

Survivors include two brothers, George Klick of Hartford and Charlie (Joyce) Klick of Superior; three sisters, Valeria Larson of Superior and Helen Krajewski and Dorothy Goulet, both of Minnesota; a niece, Mary Klick of Hartford; nephews, George, Dale and Marty Klick of Hartford; great-nieces; great-great-nieces; and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Georgeann in 1963, and a brother, Joe.

Visitation will be Friday, May 4, at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home Hartford, from 5 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral services.

Sr. Helen Hurley will officiate, and interment will be in Gordon Cemetery, Gordon.

James W. Miles

James W. Miles, 88, of Hartford, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Beverly Terrace Nursing Home, Watertown.
He was born Jan. 29, 1915, in Stone Bank, Wis., to the late William and Ruth (nee Steel) Miles.

James was a crop duster for the cranberry farms in Wisconsin and other types of farms.

He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps and flew many missions in the South Pacific and Asian Campaigns.

After World War II, he was a pilot instructor for Army Air Corps at Ponca City, Okla.

He loved to fly, and started the Hartford Airport, which later was dedicated to him and named Miles Field in his honor.

Survivors include a brother, Melvin (Lee) Miles of Johnson Creek; a sister, Evelyn Reyher of Summit; a daughter-in-law, Pam Miles of Oconomowoc; grandchildren, Tammi (Jeff) Brinkman of Oconomowoc, Tracy Miles of Hartland, Tricia (Mark) Griswold and Jim Miles, both of Oconomowoc; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Lila; a son, Jim; and an infant son.

Visitation at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home in Hartford will be Friday, May 4, from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral services.

Rev. Ron Pinc will officiate, and private interment will be in Stone Bank Cemetery.

Fran M. Zastrow

Fran M. Zastrow, nee Asmus, 82, of West Bend, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at the Cedar Lake Health Care center.
She was born Feb. 22, 1919, in Fond du Lac to the late George and Amanda (nee Meyer) Asmus.

She grew up in Fond du Lac and later moved to Milwaukee where she attended Patricia Stevens Career College.

Fran worked at the Boston Store and later at Mary Lester Fabrics in Milwaukee for several years.

On June 10, 1965, she married Albert Zastrow at Capitol Drive Lutheran Church, Milwaukee. He passed away May 28, 1984.

After retirement, Fran moved from Milwaukee to Lake Havasu City, Ariz., where she lived until moving to West Bend in 1989.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Phyllis (Charles) Meyer of Milwaukee; two step-grandchildren, Cynthia (Craig) Wolf of Eureka, Mont. and Jennifer Meyer of Milwaukee; a niece, Sandra (Roger) Kahlhammer of Neshkoro; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death was a stepson, Robert Zastrow.

A private family graveside service will be held Friday, May 4 at Valhalla Memorial Gardens, Milwaukee.

The Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.

Ernst "Ernie" Schwendimann

Ernst "Ernie" Schwendimann, 79, of Slinger, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.
He was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Slinger, to the late Herman and Anna (Kuenzi) Schwendimann.

After graduating from Slinger High School in 1940, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre.

After his marriage to Anna M. Berger on May 17, 1947, at St. Steffan's Evangelical and Reformed Church of Juneau, the couple lived in Slinger.

He was a laborer for Tomaro Construction of Cudahy and J.P. Jansen Construction of Milwaukee for over 40 years, retiring in 1978.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" (James) Busse of Weyawega, Barbara (Dean) Molstad of Sussex and Linda (Dan) Schulteis of Richfield; seven grandchildren, Lisa (fiance Mike Winters) Busse, James Busse Jr., Eric, Brian and Stefanie (fiance Michael Mittelstadt) Molstad, Kimberly (Marco) Pineda and Traci Schulteis; a sister, Hildegard (Allen) Brandt of Cedarburg; a sister-in-law, Grace Schwendimann of Hartford; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a sister, Louise, and a brother, Walter.

Ernie was a member of St. John's Church and Council, commander of the VFW Post 3358 Zunker-Held of Slinger, a member of the Laborers International Union of America and a retired member of the Slinger Fire Department.

He was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors, his orchard, vineyard, playing cards and cracking the nuts from his nut trees, but most of all he loved his wife and family.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, at 7 p.m. at St. John's UCC of Slinger.

Pastor John Tschudy will officiate, and interment will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Union Cemetery, Slinger.

Visitation at the church only will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Slinger Fire Department walk-through at 6 p.m. and a VFW walk-through at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials are appreciated.

The Phillip Funeral Home of Slinger is assisting the family.

A. R. Sulaiman

Graveside services were held at Wisconsin Memorial Park on Tuesday for A. R. Sulaiman of Mequon, who died on April 27, 2001. Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, Mequon assisted the family with arrangements.
Dr. Sulaiman was born in Cochin, India and graduated from Trivandrum Medical College in India in 1961. He did his internship in Chicago and his residency in neurology at Columbia University and Mt. Sinai in New York City including neuropathology and neuropediatrics. He completed his chief residency in 1970 at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, N.Y. In 1972 he earned his Neuromuscular Fellowship at the Ottawa Civic Hospital in Ottawa, Canada and in 1973 he joined the faculty of the Medical College of Wisconsin as Clinical Professor Emeritus.

Survivors include: wife Sharon; children Sarah of San Diego, Calif., Javid, Jared and Jennifer.

Further survived by 6 brothers and a sister all of India, cousin Ahmed Rahman of Norfolk, Va., nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
