Leona Thierfelder

A funeral service was held on Tuesday at First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg, for Leona Thierfelder, who died on May 27, 2001, at the age of 80. Rev. Chris Schwanz officiated at the funeral service.
Mrs. Thierfelder was born May 15, 1921, in Cedarburg, the daughter of the late Henry and Minnie (nee Last) Eberhardt. She married the late Milton Thierfelder on Sept. 28, 1945 in Wisconsin. She worked as a waitress in Cedarburg and was a member of the First Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.

Survivors include: sons Richard (LouAnn) Thierfelder of Hartland and Thomas (Beth) Thierfelder of Grafton; grandchildren Christopher Thierfelder of Minneapolis, Minn., Brianna Thierfelder of Hartland, Todd, Kimberly and Kelly Thierfelder, all of Grafton; brothers Milton (Marie) Eberhardt of Wautoma and Elroy (Trudy) Eberhardt of Janesville; sisters Dorothy (Elmer) Veloon of Grafton and Marilyn (Richard) Hahlbeck of South Milwaukee.

Further survived by: brother-in-law Franklin (Helen) Thierfelder of Jackson; sister-in-law Bernice Thierfelder of Thiensville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.

Sr. Dorothy Stoffel, 91

School Sister of St. Francis Dorothy (Antoniana) Stoffel, 91, died May 31 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.

The daughter of Nicholas and Catherine Stoffel, she was born Aug. 26, 1909 in the town of Addison. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis community on June 12, 1928, and made profession of vows Aug. 19, 1930.

Sister Dorothy began her religious ministry in 1929 at the School Sisters’ Seraphic Press in Milwaukee, where she worked for 17 years.

Following that, she worked as a sacristan at several parishes in Chicago, Ill. Sister Dorothy also worked in the book store at Alverno College, Milwaukee, and as a ward clerk at Oak Park Hospital in Oak Park, Ill.

From 1974 to 1986, she worked in home care in Chicago.

She moved to St. Joseph Convent, Campbellsport, in 1986, where she volunteered in the gift shop, host department, and in health care and support services.

Sister Dorothy is survived by a sister, Lucille Stoffel, and a sister-in-law, Natalie Stoffel, both of West Bend. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces and their spouses and families, including Gladys and Frank Scharrer of Allenton, Marvin and Rochelle Stoffel of West Bend, Shirley and Gordon Gehring of Hartford, Caroline Stoffel of Allenton, James and Pat Stoffel of Allenton, and Arlene and Joseph Strupp of California.

A wake will be held beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, June 4, at St. Joseph Convent, Campbellsport. Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, at St. Joseph Convent, followed by burial at Sisters’ Cemetery, Campbellsport.

Kenneth W. Nelson, 70
Kenneth W. Nelson of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of West Bend, died Monday, May 28, 2001 at Holy Cross Hospital in Taos, N.M., at the age of 70.

He was born Jan. 28, 1931 in Milwaukee to the late Henry E. and Agnes (nee Lindberg) Nelson. Ken spent his early years in Milwaukee, on his uncle’s farm near Plainfield and in Washburn where his parents had relocated. He attended Rufus King High School in Milwaukee and graduated from Washburn High School in 1949.

On May 5, 1951, Ken married Phyllis Bourgo. Phyllis predeceased him on June 7, 1988.

Shortly after their marriage, Ken joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving until his honorable discharge in 1953.

After his discharge, he returned to Milwaukee where he apprenticed as a tool and die maker, and worked at that trade until 1960 when he moved to Washburn. While in Washburn, he operated his wife’s family business and also resumed his affiliation with the tool and die industry as a teacher in the Wisconsin Vocational School System.

In 1965, the family business was sold and they came to West Bend. Ken was instrumental in establishing a tool and die program at Moraine Park Technical College West Bend Campus. He served as department head until his retirement in 1992.

In 1990, he married Sandra Grudzinski. Upon his retirement Ken and Sandie relocated to the southwest, settling in Tucson.

His love for the area lured Ken to work for the Bureau of Land Management as a park ranger in Taos, N.M. during the summer months.

Ken’s first love was always his family and his friends, but traveling extensively was a close second.

Survivors include his loving wife of 10 years Sandra; two children, Terry C. (Cheryl) of Mattawan, Mich. and Liza (James) Wolter of Oconomowoc; Sandra’s children, Angel (Joe) Schmitt of Campbellsport and Tony Shulka of West Bend; and the joy of his life, his grandchildren, Kenneth R. Nelson, Kristin (Greg) Falkenberg, Kraig Nelson, Timothy Wolter, Robert Wolter, and his step-grandchildren, Timothy Schmitt and William Schmitt; other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home with Dan Schroeder of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. Monday until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Kenneth W. Nelson Scholarship Fund, at Bank One, 801 W. Washington St., West Bend, WI 53095, would be appreciated.

Mabel (nee Lied) Koch

A graveside service was held on Thursday at Last Home Cemetery in Germantown for Mabel (nee Lied) Koch who died at Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg on Tuesday May 29, 2001 at the age of 92 yrs. Mueller Funeral Home of Grafton assisted the family.
Mrs. Koch was born in Germantown on July 7, 1908 to the late John C. & Phillapena (nee Stieglitz) Lied and married the late Donald Koch on Nov. 6, 1946 in Jackson.

Survivors include: daughters Wilodean (Melvin) Kowalke of West Bend, Phyllis Hoerl of Chilton, Linda (David) Boesch of Grafton.

She is further survived by 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, other relatives and friends.

Marion B. Jenkins

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church in West Bend for Marion B. Jenkins (nee Linley), 94, who died May 31, 2001 at Cedar Lake Health Center in West Bend.
Rev. William Dushek will officiate, with visitation at the church from 12:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Mifflin Cemetery on Tuesday at noon.

Arrangements are being handled by the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home of West Bend.

Mrs. Jenkins was born Aug. 11, 1906 in Dover to the late Herman and Mary (nee Wright) Linley. She attended Dover Grade School and graduated from Mazomanie High School in 1924.

On Aug. 11, 1924 she married Alvin Jenkins in Red Wing, Minn. They made their home in Mifflin until the early 1930s, when they moved to Ridgeway. In 1946 they moved to Newburg and finally to West Bend in 1965.

Her husband preceded her in death on March 1, 1966.

Mrs. Jenkins was a member of the Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star West Bend Chapter #73.

Survivors include children Evelyn Hass of Madison, Donna (J.O.) Liebenstein of Lac du Flambeau, Sally (James) Quinn of Germantown and Alvin "Mike" (Pat) Jenkins of Shawano. She is further survived by nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Dora Bernice Huber
Funeral Services were held Thursday at the Ruminski Funeral Home in Redgranite for Dora Bernice Huber of Redgranite, formerly of Cedarburg, who died on May 26, 2001 at the age of 78. The Rev. Erik Karas, Pastor of First Lutheran Church of Poy Sippi officiated at the ceremony. Burial was Friday in Zur Ruhe Cemetery, Cedarburg. Ruminski Funeral Home, Redgranite assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Huber was born Nov. 20, 1922 in Milwaukee, the daughter of George and Elsa Eickstedt. She married Herbert Schultz in 1942, he preceded her in death in 1979. She had been married to Alvin Huber.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Poy Sippi.

Survivors include: daughter, Karen (Richard) Aguirre of Chandler, Ariz.; sons, Herbert Schultz of Omro, Doug (Christine) Schultz of Marion, Don Schultz of Redgranite, and George Schultz of Cedarburg.

Further survived by 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Doreen Butt, her husband, Herbert Schultz, her parents, a brother, Harold Eickstedt, and a sister, Adela Striedl.

A memorial has been established in Dora’s memory.

Adela E. Hill

A funeral service was held Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg for Adela E. Hill (nee Kurth) of Cedarburg who died on May 29, 2001 at Cedar Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center. Burial will be held on Monday at Immanuel Cemetery. Mueller Funeral Home of Cedarburg is assisting the family.
Mrs. Hill was born March 2, 1903 in Cedarburg, the daughter of the late Henry C. and Augusta (nee Lenat) Kurth. She married the late Arnold Hill on June 4, 1926 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg.

Survivors include: daughters June (Miles) Leppla of Cedarburg, Gladys (Ted) Grulke of Oconomowoc; brother Milton (Wally) Kurth of Barton; sisters-in-law Rose Kurth of Cedarburg, Erna Fieber of Port Washington.

She is further survived by 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Mardel L. Lavey

Mardel L. Lavey, 61, of Montello, formerly of Brownsville, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh.
She was born June 30, 1939, in the town of Scott, Sheboygan County, to the late Edgar and Irene (Klein) Fellenz, and married Dale T. Lloyd on Jan. 12, 1963, at St. Mary's Church Eden. He passed away on July 14, 1969.

She married John P. Lavey on Sept. 11, 1971, at St. Mary's Church, Lomira.

Mardel was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was also an excellent cook who enjoyed quilting and traveling.

Survivors include her husband; three children, Vicki L. (Dennis) Trupp of Germantown, Vernice M. (Jeffrey) Wolff of Oshkosh and John P. Lavey Jr. of Lomira.; two brothers, Edgar Fellenz of Sheboygan and Russell (Carol) Fellenz of West Bend; a sister, Marilyn Heimermann of Lomira; a special friend and sister-in-law, Agnes Fellenz of Kewaskum; four grandchildren, Amanda and Brittany Wolff, Daniel and Michael Trupp; other relatives and dear friends.

Preceding her in death were a brother, Ralph and a sister, Mavis Krell.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 4, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. Richard M. Heilman officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

The Steinhaus-Leikness and Stahl Funeral Home of Montello assisted the family.
