Floyd J. Kuehnau Sr.
Floyd J. Kuehnau Sr., 79, formerly of Marinette, died Friday, June 1, 2001, in West Bend.

He was born May 8, 1922, to the late Alvin and Isabelle (Grenier) Kuehnau.

He served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne during World War II.

Floyd was a Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes for many years, had worked for the city of Marinette for several years and drove, owned and operated semi for many years.

Survivors include three sons, Floyd Jr. of Menominee, Mich., Allen of Fond du Lac and Charley of West Bend; three daughters, Verna Anderson of Green Bay, Vicki Geitz of Menominee, Mich. and Loni Kuehnau of West Bend; a half brother, Arthur Choitz Jr. of Chisum, Minn.; a sister, Ruth Bieber of Marinette; stepsisters, Lucille Lake and Marcella Tomisick, both of Chisum; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were three brothers, Bud, Raymond and Ernie, and a sister, Pearl Johnston.

Funeral services will be held at the Thielen Funeral Home, Marinette, on Wednesday, June 6, at 7 p.m., with Deacon Jerome Thetreau officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Eunice Elizabeth (Ohlrogge) Lay
Eunice Elizabeth (Ohlrogge) Lay, 84, of West Bend, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at her home.

She was born July 12, 1916, in Seymour, Wis., to the late Pastor and Mrs. Frederick Ohlrogge.

After graduating from Ripon College, Eunice worked as a school teacher in Kewaskum where she met and later married Henry J. "Bud" Lay in Seymour on July 16, 1939.

They settled in West Bend where she raised her children and later worked for the West Bend Community Memorial Library.

As a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Eunice was active in the choir and served the women's organization at both the local and conference level.

She was involved in the early days of the local children's theatre and in later years her life was devoted to family and friends.

Survivors include two children, John (Wanda) of Stevens Point and Susan (Douglas) Wage of Waupaca; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Eight brothers, four sisters and her husband preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, at 7 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, West Bend.

Rev. Oscar Kraft will officiate, and cremation will take place at Parkview Cremations of Fond du Lac with interment of ashes in Union Cemetery, West Bend.

Visitation at the church only will be Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated to the Senior Choirs of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

The Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend, is assisting the family.

Edna E. Schulz
Edna E. Schulz, nee Brandenburg, 88, of West Bend, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.

She was born Feb. 2, 1913, in the town of Carlton, Wis., to the late Fred and Emma (Kitzerow) Brandenburg, and helped on the family homestead.

After her marriage to Arno E. Schulz on Aug. 30, 1941, in the town of Gibson, she took care of the family household and was the Random Lake correspondent for the Sheboygan Press for over 25 years.

Edna also loved crafts and gardening.

Her husband passed away on Jan. 1, 1995.

Survivors include three children, Melvin of Colgate, Cheryl (Dennis) Novotny of West Bend and Myron Schulz of California; three grandchildren, Scott (Mary) Novotny, Lisa (Paul) Morvant and Melissa (Mark) Althaus; a great-grandson, Michael Novotny; a sister, Mildred Schmidt of Manitowoc; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were three brothers and a sister.

Edna was a member of St. John's UCC of Random Lake for 60 years, the Women's Guild, Choir, Random Lake Senior Citizens, Residence Council of Cedar Bay for two years and the Cedar Bay Choir.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 8, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's UCC, Random Lake.

Rev. Earl J. Kruse will officiate, and interment will follow in Union Cemetery, town of Fredonia.

Visitation at the Phillip Funeral Home will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., and also at the church on Friday from noon until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated to Lakeview Community Library of Random Lake or St. John's UCC.

Joseph N. Hahn

Joseph N. Hahn, 69, of Hartford, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Hartford Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 19, 1932, in Neosho, to Adolph and Margaret (nee Malsack) Hahn, and married Barbara Gehl. She preceded him in death.

On May 10, 1986, he married Mary Welak at St. Kilian Catholic Church, Hartford.

Joseph was a technical engineer at Mercury Marine where he had worked for almost 50 years.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Mark and John (Colleen), both of Hartford; Steven of Palm Bay, Fla. and Scott (Jodi) of Erin; three stepsons, Larry (Judy) Gassner of Arizona, Randall Gassner of Fort Worth, Texas and Ronald (Kay) Gassner of Texas; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandsons; a sister, Dolores (Ralph) Roethle of Hartford; three sisters-in-law, Joyce Hahn of Hartford, Sue (Charles) Rohde of Plymouth and Gloria (Brad) Steward of Florida; three brothers-in-law, James Welak and Gene (Jeanette) Welak, both of Mayville, and Tom (Diann) Welak of Lomira; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were two infant children, Michael and Karen; a stepson, Rick Gassner; and three brothers, Wilbur, Jerome and Clarence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Kilian Catholic Church.

Fr. Michael Petrie will officiate, and inurnment will be in St. Kilian Cemetery, Hartford.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford.

Elroy E. Woltring

A funeral service was held Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cedarburg, for Elroy E. Woltring who died May 30, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee, at the age of 87. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Grafton. Mueller Funeral Home of Cedarburg assisted the family.
Mr. Woltring was born Oct. 25, 1913, son of the late John and Martha (nee Mueller) Woltring. He married the late Margaret on June 6, 1942. He was voted fan of the year by the Land O Lakes Northern Division in 1996.

Survivors include: children Karen (Bryan) Gruenewald, Beth (Ron) Peterson, Mary (Ken) Bronson, David (Meridi), Brian (Rebecca) Gayle (Bob) Bierman; brother Harold (Gladys) Woltring; 17 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church appreciated.

J.O. Liebenstein

Grafton native J.O. Liebenstein, 74, died June 2, 2001 at his home in Lac du Flambeau after a battle with mesothelioma cancer.
Memorials services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church of the Pines in Minocqua, with Pastor Brian Kundinger and Bishop Emeritus Harry Anderson officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Bolger Funeral and Cremation Services of Minocqua.

Mr. Liebenstein was born in Grafton on May 31, 1927, son of Dr. Edwin and Mabelle (nee Lammers) Liebenstein.

Mr. Liebenstein and his three brothers served in World War II. He was a member of the Navy Seebees in the South Pacific.

Returning to Wisconsin following the war, Mr. Liebenstein married Donna Jenkins on June 28, 1952 in West Bend. The couple lived in Grafton until his retirement from Simplicity Mfg. after 32 years, moving to White Sand Lake in Lac du Flambeau in 1988.

Mr. Liebenstein enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, baseball, painting and observing wildlife. Family members recall he especially loved to travel and attend concerts with his wife, as well as working in his woodworking shop.

He was a member of American Legion Post #355 in Grafton, the Masonic Lodge, was past worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Boy Scouts.

In addition, Mr. Liebenstein was very active in the Methodist Church, both in Cedarburg and Minocqua.

Family members noted "he will always be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather and a person who was always ready to care for others."

Survivors include his wife Donna Liebenstein of Lac du Flambeau; son Lee (Sue) Liebenstein of Oregon, Wis.; daughter Jodi (Ron) Capacio of Arbor Vitae, Wis.; grandchildren Brian and Julie Liebenstein and Carli Capacio; brothers Bert (Audrey) Liebenstein of Port Washington and Seth (Dottie) Liebenstein of Grafton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clair Liebenstein and nephew Bob Liebenstein.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Marshfield Medical Research Foundation for Cancer, 1000 N. Oak St., Marshfield, WI 54449.
