John G. Roszak

John G. Roszak, 36, of the town of Jackson, formerly of Brown Deer, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at his home.
He was born March 14, 1965, in Milwaukee. to Gerald and Joan (nee Szopinski) Roszak, and married Tina Mahas on Feb. 12, 1993, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Milwaukee.

He attended St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Brown Deer.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Megann and Justin; his parents, Gerald and Joan Roszak of Brown Deer; brothers and sisters, Mark (Linda) of Milwaukee, Lynn (Larry) Hetzel of Cedarburg, Paul (Donna) of Cedarburg, Beth Roszak of Milwaukee, Joel "Ed" (Wendy) of Jackson and Dawn (Brat) Patz of DePere; in-laws; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, 8661 N. 76th Place Brown Deer. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Mequon.

Visitation at the Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, will be Friday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. with a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m., and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Megann and Justin's education fund are appreciated.

Sarah Margery Vida

Sarah Margery Vida, nee Nichols, 75, of West Bend, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born Oct. 7, 1925, in Walworth, to the late William and Mary (VanDreser) Nichols and graduated from Walworth High School in 1942.

After her marriage to James J. Vida on Aug. 20, 1949, in Racine, the couple lived in Thiensville, Fredonia and later in West Bend.

Her husband passed away on March 13, 1967.

Survivors include eight children, Kathleen (Roger) Brandt of Algoma, James (Deborah) Vida of Slinger, Theresa Cook of West Bend, Michael (Jill) Vida of Batavia, David (Lisa) Vida of Carol Stream, Ill., Mary (Richard) Martens and John (Nelfa) Vida, both of Victorville, Calif. and Robert Vida of Slinger; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Helen (Leonard) Dickerson; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Fellner; two special friends, Evie Keegan and Esther Auer; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death was a son, Thomas.

She was a member of the HCE of Ozaukee County.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 29, at 6 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend.

Father Jerome Brittain will officiate, and inurnment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Racine.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated.

Lillian L. Ganns

Lillian L. Ganns, nee Brahs, 82, of Slinger, passed over to eternal life on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at her residence.

She was born June 13, 1919, in the town of Erin, to the late William and Florence (Roemer) Brahs.

After her marriage to Edgar B. Ganns on June 12, 1943, at First Ev. Lutheran Church of Hartford, the couple lived in the town of Erin on the family homestead until 1950 when they moved to the Slinger area.

She was a housekeeper for various residences in the Big Cedar Lake area and worked at Libby's Canning for over 10 years.

Lillian was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Slinger.

Her husband passed away Aug. 23, 2000.

Survivors include three children, Patricia (Frank) Endres of Willcox, Ariz., William Ganns of Chandler, Ariz. and Rodney (Debbie) Ganns of Slinger; two grandchildren, Arian (Mike) Kase of Chandler and Crystal Beth Ganns of Slinger; two sisters, Helen Hayes of Juneau and Eileen Baer of Milwaukee; a brother, Orville Brahs of Hartford; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death was a brother, Melvin Brahs.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 29, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, Slinger.

Rev. Barbara Dunst will officiate, and interment will be in Union Cemetery, Slinger, at 10 a.m. on Monday.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated.

Carl W. Vogt

Carl W. Vogt, 85, of West Bend, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at the Samaritan Health Center.

He was born April 4,1916, in the town of West Bend, to the late Nicholas and Helena (Jansen) Vogt.

After his marriage to Helen O. Schneider on May 9, 1942, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michaels, the couple farmed in the West Bend area for over 40 years.

Carl was a very social man who enjoyed being around people.

Survivors include his wife; six children, Charles (Theresa), Dan (Karen), JoAnne (Thomas) Pella, Steven (Cheryl), James (Brenda and John (Vickie); 17 grandchildren, Jesse, Megan, Kelly, Laura, Noele, Dani, Brian, Matthew, Katalin, Jared, Jacob, Lucas, Adam, Rachel, Sarah, Kristine and Andrew; four sisters, Therese Oelhafen, Eleanor Ihlenfeld, Cyrilla (William) Thull and Catherine (Jack) Weninger; a brother, Denis (Marian) Vogt; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a brother, Clarence; a sister, Helen and her husband, Harvey Oelhafen; and two brothers-in-law, John Oelhafen and Edwin Ihlenfeld.

He was a member of the Allenton Volunteer Fire Department (honorary member), Allenton Area Advancement Association, Slinger-Allenton Rotary, St. Matthias Men's Society, Catholic Foresters, Knights of Columbus, Washington County Civil Service Commission, town of West Bend treasurer, town of Addison assessor for four years, town of Addison clerk for 17 years, West Bend Moose Lodge 1393, the Allenton Lions, a trustee for St. Matthias Church, Nabob for 16 years, and was a Pioneer Seed corn salesman.

A special thank you to the Samaritan Health Center nursing staff for their loving care given to Carl.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Lawrence.

Visitation at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 8 p.m., and also at the church only on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Memorials are appreciated in Carl's name to the charity of the donor's choice.

George P. Smith

George P. Smith loved to help anyone who needed assistance. Whether it was table setup for the Peter Wollner Post 288 Legion fish fry, a quick drive for a friend to the doctor, or to assist classmates at his MATC-Mequon jewelry class, George was always the one to help.
Smith passed away at his home on Sunday, July 22, 2001. He was 86.

He was a native Wisconsinite who called Rhinelander home in his early years. As a young man, Smith was active in football and basketball. After graduation from UW-Madison, and throughout his life, he was an active supporter of sports, namely the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers, and rarely missed a game.

As a proud veteran of World War II, Smith was very involved with the Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288 in Cedarburg, where he served on the executive board. During the war, Smith served as 2nd Lieutenant for the U.S. Army, 814th Battalion, as an Aviation Engineer.

From 1961 until his retirement in 1982 from Johnson Controls as a mechanical engineer, Smith enjoyed an active life with many hobbies. He was an avid gardener, a knowledgeable bird watcher, an accomplished woodworker, a good story-teller and the "family" jeweler, making exquisite objects for family and close friends. He also spent many an afternoon watching favorite videos with his wife of 46 years, Ruth.

Smith enjoyed and loved to spend time with family. Whether playing with his grandchildren, Emily and Abby, or just visiting with any of his four daughters and their dogs, time was always found to enjoy the company of family and friends. Family birthdays and holidays were always a special event for him.

Smith is survived by his wife Ruth (nee Pfaeflc); daughters Paula (Paul) Malloy, Karen (Scott) Kaisler, Sue Ellen (Mark) Showers and Lisa (Andrew) Holentunder.

He is further survived by sister-in-law Lois M. Smith, niece Susan (Steve) Stoddard, nephew Sandy (Linda) Smith and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and John Husting, brother Alexander F. Smith and grandson Paul Showers.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. at Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg on Saturday, Aug. 4.

Elmer O. Pautz

Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 29 at First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg for Elmer O. Pautz, who died on Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee at the age of 86. Visitation was held at the church on Sunday with burial at Immanuel Cemetery in Cedarburg. Rev. William Reichmann officiated.

Mr. Pautz was born in Cedarburg on Oct. 15, 1914 to the late Carl and Adeline (nee Nordwig) Pautz. He married Viola Heckendorf on Nov. 14, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Jackson.

He was a member of the Peter Wollner American Legion Post # 288 in Cedarburg for 55 years, he was a World War II veteran, a long-time active member of First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg and retired from the American Can Co. after 30 years of employment.

He is survived by his wife Viola of Cedarburg; a son, Jerome (Heidi) of Grafton; two grandchildren, Peter J. and Heidi Lou Pautz of Cedarburg; two stepgrandchildren, Jeremy Moser of Menasha and Holly Moser of West Bend; one brother-in-law, Reinhold (Olive) Heckendorf of Jackson and one sister-in-law, Agnes (Rev. William) Schulz of Beaver Dam.

He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Memorials to First Immanuel Lutheran Church are appreciated.
