Ruth E. Olsen

Ruth E. Olsen, nee Schmitt, 83, of Fillmore died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001.
Private services were held at the Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend.

Cremation will take place at Paradise Cremations of West Bend.

Howard J. Kruepke

Howard J. Kruepke, age 81 years, of Jackson, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls. He was born March 14, 1920, in the town of Polk to the late Herbert and Selma (nee Klein) Kruepke and married Annette R. Beilke on Sept. 27, 1941, in Kewaskum.
Howard was the third generation of dairy farmers on the family homestead in Jackson. In 1943, he founded and was chairman of Kruepke Trucking, and in 1948 he founded and was chairman of Kruepke Transit. Howard was a director of the West Bend Consumers Cooperative, a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau since 1945, a member and past president of the Germantown Rotary Club where he was also a Paul Harris Fellow, a third and fourth degree member of the Father Casper Rehrl Council 1964 Knights of Columbus, and a member of the West Bend Lodge 1398 Loyal Order of the Moose. He also was a past chairman of the town of Polk, a charter member of St. Frances Cabrini Church where he was active in the Holy Name Society, the building and grounds committee, the parish council and a church trustee for 20 years, and a member of the board of directors of St. Joseph's Community Hospital for 20 years. Howard enjoyed his membership in the Jackson Area Business Association where he was the past president and a former Man of the Year. He founded and built the Pioneer Plaza Truck Stop and was a former director of Pioneer Ready Mix in Fond du lac.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Annette; 11 children, John (Marian) of Jackson, Bob (Linda) of Colgate, Jim (Barb) of West Bend, Tom (Doreen), Mary (Steve) Plier, Bonnie and Dick all of Jackson, Dan (Karen) of Slinger, Ken (Peggy) and Nancy, all of Jackson, and Jeff (Linda) of West Bend; 20 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Earl (Delores) Kruepke and a sister, Donna (David) Spaeth, both of Jackson, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by a sister, Lucille.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church (due to the construction at St. Frances Cabrini Church). Please meet at church. Father Jeffrey Haines from St. Frances Cabrini Church will preside. Burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday, at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Jackson from 3 p.m. until a prayer vigil at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Frances Cabrini Church Building Fund.

Andrea Lyn Haberman

Andrea Lyn Haberman, 25, of Chicago, formerly of West Bend, missing since Sept. 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center, New York City.
She was the beloved daughter of Kathleen and Gordon Haberman of West Bend; loving sister of Julie; beloved and devoted fiancee of Allen Kolodzik, Chicago; future daughter-in-law of Denise and Allen Kolodzik; future sister-in-law of Kate; treasured granddaughter of Therese M. Heun (the late Kenneth) and (the late George) and Audrey Haberman; cherished niece of Kenneth (Kathy) Heun; Barbara Montgomery, Patricia (Norb) Julga, Teri Heun, Alan (Sharon) Haberman and Shelley (Neil) Casey; loving cousin of Brian and Dan Heun and Christopher Julga and (the late) Angela Julga; loved by "Aunty" MaryAnn (Meyer) and Chuck Maves; "cousin" Sandy and "Uncle" Joseph Lemiesz.

Many other loving relatives and scores of special friends and co-workers are part of Andrea’s extended family, and, of course, special pal, Morgan.

Andrea is a 1994 honors graduate of Kewaskum High School and a 1998 honors graduate of St. Norbert’s College. She was a current employee of Carr Futures, Chicago.

As a tribute to Andrea, a gathering for family and friends will be held Sunday at Immaculate Conception/St. Mary’s Church, 406 Jefferson St., West Bend, from 1-4 p.m. with a memorial Mass at 4:30 p.m. Our hopes are that you would respect the families’ grief and right of worship.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Andrea’s name to provide scholarships to students at Kewaskum High School and St. Norbert’s College (and to do other work Andrea would feel strongly about). If desired, contributions can be sent to: Andrea Haberman Memorial Funds, c/o Bank One of Mequon, (5909 W. Mequon Road, 112N) for subsequent distribution by the family to various friends.

The Haberman and Kolodzik families thank everyone who has, and continues to, reach out to help Andrea and her loved ones throughout this terrible chain of events that are to us not only a grievous personal loss, but a national tragedy.

Special thanks to Carr Futures and Cramer-Krasselt for their continuing efforts in our time of need.

To Jessica, Andrea’s and our guardian angel in Manhattan, N.Y., we will be forever grateful.

For the support of our wonderful neighbors and community, we are deeply appreciative, and in the months to come we will attempt to thank all of you who have touched our lives so profoundly.

Karin L. Flannery
Karin L. Flannery (nee Hoffmann), 50, of Port Washington died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospice of Milwaukee.

Funeral arrangements are pending at The Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend, 1420 W. Paradise Drive; 338-2050.

William A. ‘Bill’ Turner
William A. "Bill" Turner, 77, of West Bend died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at his residence.

He was born on Sept. 17, 1924 in Stoughton to the late Earl and Evelyn (nee Busch) Turner, and at an early age moved to West Bend with his family.

He graduated from West Bend High School class of 1942 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theater from France through Germany and Czechoslovakia.

On May 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to June Rose Otten at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Parish. She preceded him in death on May 1, 1985.

Bill was employed at Johnson Bus Service as their accountant until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Parish and member of the West Bend Moose Lodge #1398. Bill was an avid gardener, his yard was his pride and joy. He was also an accomplished woodworker.

He is survived by four children, Gene (Kris) Turner of West Bend, John Turner of Germantown, Lynn (Dan) Mertzig of West Bend and Scott (Julie) Turner of West Bend; eight grandchildren, Jean Turner, Jennifer Lenzendorf, Jackie Turner, Lance Mertzig, Chris Mertzig, Bob Mertzig, Kathy Turner and Michael Turner; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Mertzig of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Shirley Klug of West Bend; special friends Bob "Otto" Kumrow, Bernie Wagner and Tom Williams; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Teeter; and a brother, LaVerne Klug.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Myrhum-Patten Funeral and Cremation Service, West Bend. Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home from 4 p.m until the time of service. Burial will be in St. Mary’s (old) Cemetery on Monday at 10:30 a.m.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Smale, Dr. Kaufmann, Dr. Vukelich and Heartland Hospice.

Viola Voelz
Viola Voelz, 82, passed away on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 27, 2001, at Hilltop Manor in Ripon.

Viola was born on July 21, 1919, the daughter of Adolf and Arose (Strauss) Bock in Jackson. She attended school in Jackson and in 1957, she married Stanley Voelz. Viola lived in Menomonee Falls and in Ripon the last 10 years. She was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Jackson.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and one brother, Elmer Bock.

Funeral services for Viola Voelz will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Jackson, with Pastor H. David Flegel officiating. Friends may call on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow the service in the Pinelawn Memorial Park, Milwaukee. A memorial has been established.

A special thanks to the family of Hilltop Manor, Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home and St. Peter’s United Church.

John Ruplinger

John Ruplinger, 78, of Kewas-kum, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001.
He was born Jan. 24, 1923, in St. Kilian, to the late Kilian and Mary (German) Ruplinger, and on Sept. 27, 1945, married Edna Wondra at St. Kilian Catholic Church, St. Kilian.

Mr. Ruplinger served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 of Kewaskum.

He was employed by Fairmont Foods and later Kemps Dairy in Kewaskum for 38 1/2 years.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Kewaskum, the XYZ Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed playing cards an gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Edna; four children, Donald (Barb) Ruplinger and Mike Ruplinger, both of Kewaskum, Sharon (Calvin) Rauch of Campbellsport and Mary (Dennis) Junk of Kewaskum; a daughter-in-law, Ann Ruplinger of Campbellsport; four sisters, Mary Ann (Donald) Lichtensteiger of Campbellsport, Helen Zettler of West Bend, Bernice Fleischman and Madeline Zehren, both of St. Kilian; nine grandchildren, Lisa (Jeff) Czerwinski, Bret Rauch, Tracy (Beau) Coulter, Jay (Vicki) Ruplinger, Julie Ruplinger, Jeremy Ruplinger (special friend Katie Wettstein), Becky Junk, Josh Ruplinger and Jacob Junk; two great-grandchildren, Hayley and Cheyenne Czerwinski; a sister-in-law, Audrey Ruplinger of St. Kilian; a brother-in-law, Arnold Amerling of Kewaskum; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a son, Ron Ruplinger; three brothers, Ralph, Orlando and Leander; and two sisters, Cordell Amerling and Viola Kudek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Kewaskum.

Father Mark Jones will officiate, and burial with military graveside rites will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.

The Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, is serving the family.

Clara E. Bentz

A funeral service will be held today at 7 p.m. for Clara E. Bentz (nee Gierach) at David’s Star Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kirchhayn who died Sept. 28, 2001 at Lasata Care Center at the age of 91.
Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 4 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. Interment will be at the church cemetery on Tuesday.

Mrs. Bentz was born Dec. 8, 1910, the daughter of the late Ludwig and Alma Gierach. She married Paul Bentz on June 26, 1937 at First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. Clara was a member of the Ladies Aid at David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church.

Survivors include son Ronald (Jean) Bentz; grandchildren Kelly (Russ) Nell and Katie Bentz; great-grandchildren Brittany, Trisha and Travis; brother Harry Bentz; sisters Meta Wilger and Mabel Winter; brother-in-law Walter Bentz.

She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond; a sister, Hilda and a brother, Melvin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church or Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School Appreciated.

Gwendolyn M. "Gwen" Andrews

An informal gathering was held on Saturday, Sept. 29 to remember and celebrate the life of Gwendolyn M. "Gwen" Andrews of Cedarburg, and for the past 21 years, Fischer Terrace, who died on Sept. 25, 2001 at the age of 85 at Cedar Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cedarburg.
Mueller Funeral Home of Cedarburg assisted the family with arrangements.

Ms. Andrews participated in numerous civic and social activities. She was a past president of the P.T.A. She helped organize the original Cedarburg Players theater group and spent her share of time on stage. She was an active volunteer at the polls during elections and never chose to withhold her political opinions, or any other of her opinions for that matter. Ms. Andrews bowled, enjoyed swimming, picnics, her flower garden and played bridge in numerous local bridge groups. After working some years at the old Cedarburg Public Library, she spent many years as the secretary to the late Arthur Webster, then principal of the Cedarburg Elementary Schools. When he retired, she became secretary to "Red" Entress at Westlawn Elementary School. Following this position, she remained at Westlawn school as part of the library staff.

Survivors include: brothers Ret. Colonel Dan (the late Stella) Gust, William Gust of Santa Monica, Calif.; sisters Joan Shendell of Seattle, Wash. and the late Betsy Moldenhauer; children Robert (Marcie) Metropulos of Rhinelander, Diane (Ray) Decker of Green Valley, Ariz., Michael (Claudia) Andrews of Milwaukee, Jill (Karl) Foeger of Cedarburg; grandchildren Robert Metropulos Jr., Christine (Tim) Frederick, Nick (Rayanne) Metropulos, Romelle (Paul) Robinson, Peter (Michelle) Metropulos, Randy (Jody) Decker, Wendy (Stuart) Franzen, Joelle (Scott) Decker, Ericka Foeger, Michael (Michelle) Foeger, Casey Foeger and the late Ann O’Connor.

She is further survived by great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to acknowledge the friendship, support and care extended to our mother and us from her friends and the staff at Fischer Terrace, the staff of The Family Tree Residential Facilities Inc., in Cedarburg, and all of the wonderful patients and staff at Cedar Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cedarburg. Gwen loved you all! The family would like to extend a special thank you to those at the Hamburg Home in Grafton. Though now there is sorrow, all those who knew and loved her will never forget her quick wit and sense of humor, that leaves her memory smiling with us today and every tomorrow.
