Leona E. "Ma" Laufer
Leona E. "Ma" Laufer, nee Ganns, 90, of the town of Jackson, met her eternal Father on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at her residence.

She was born on May 26, 1911, in the town of Polk to the late Andrew and Alice (nee Loos) Ganns, and on Oct. 2, 1931, she married Aloysius "Butch" Laufer in Waukegan, Ill.

Following their marriage, they settled in West Bend where they owned a rooming house, operated the West Bend Cab Service and numerous other businesses in the area.

In 1936, they opened the Artistic Roller Rink and Tavern on Highway 143 (Keown's Korners), which they operated until retiring in 1961.

Since Leona retired, she has had numerous sales positions including with the World Book Encycloepedia.

She was a member of and very active at Christ Lutheran Church since 1945 and held numerous positions at the church including president of the women's groups and chairperson of the Building Committee.

Leona served as president of the Professional Women's Club, vice president of AARP and a member and production chairperson of the American Red Cross, Washington County Chapter, for over 25 years.

Survivors include six daughters, Marilyn Laufer of Allenton, Carol (Jerry) Faber and Theresa "Teri" Miller, both of West Bend, Patricia Burg of Oshkosh, Phyllis (Edwards) Janke of Suring and Barbara Schultz of Marinette and a son, Martin (Marlene) of New Berlin.

She was the loving grandmother and great-grandmother to 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Further surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and caring friends and neighbors.

Preceding her in death were her husband; an infant daughter, Alice; an infant son, David; another son, Alois "Junior;" three grandchildren, Russell Laufer, Mary Burg and Craig Janke; three sisters, Alma Peters, Bertha Hembel and Arabella Borchert; and three brothers, Benjamin, Walter and Reuben.

Following Leona's wishes, cremation has taken place.

A celebration of Leona's life will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Jackson, with pastor William Gruenstern officiating.

Friends and relatives may greet the family at a reception following the service in the fellowship hall at the church.

Memorials to Christ Lutheran Church are preferred in lieu of flowers.

The Schmidt Funeral Home, Jackson, is serving the family.

Leona's family wants to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Steven Holcomb, the nurses and staff at Hyome Health Care Plus, the Kettle Moraine Support Service volunteers, and all who assisted in her care in any way.

Frederick "Fritz" Koehler Jr.
Frederick "Fritz" Koehler Jr., 70, of Waubeka, died on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital Ozaukee, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in the town of Waukechon in Shawano County on April 9, 1931, to the late Frederick and Martha (Arndt) Koehler, and on Sept. 23, 1950. married Betty Reimer at St. Martin's Church, Fillmore.

Fritz was the owner and operator of Little Kohler Welding and Radiator, he drove for Johnson School Bus and helped his wife as a cook for Lehn's Catering for 41 years.

He was the town of Fredonia chairman for 23 years and a town supervisor for five years prior to that. He was also a charter member of the Fredonia Lion's Club where he held many offices, a member of West Bend Moose Lodge 1398, a former member of the Little Kohler School Board and a former Ozaukee County special deputy.

Fritz enjoyed hunting with his family, fishing and horseshoes, and sponsored area baseball and bowling teams.

Survivors include his wife; their children, Gerald (Barb) of Crivitz, Frederick "Fritz" III of Waubeka, Charlene (Timothy) Landing of Fredonia, Dale (Kathryn) of Amery and Bruce (Sandy) of Waubeka; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Harold of Eden, Leonard (Ida) of Shawano, Kenneth (Dorothy) and Harley (Alice), both of West Bend; a sister, Isabella (John) Westerfelt of Bonduel; three sisters-in-law, Betty of West Bend, Elsie of Shawano and Joyce of West Bend.

Preceding him in death were his brothers, Raymond, Arnold and Lester; a sister, Marcella Vorpahl; a granddaughter, Kristen Elizabeth; a sister-in-law, Dorothy; and his brother-in-law, Oliver.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fredonia.

Pastor Robert Zick will officiate, and burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 171 N. Royal Ave., Belgium, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

Dennis C. Heyen
Dennis C. Heyen, 49, formerly of Milwaukee, was born to eternal life on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001.

He was the beloved husband of Laura J. (nee Weiss); dearest father of Daniel Heyen; beloved son of Virginia and the late Charles Heyen; brother of Diane (Ron) Henning; son-in-law of Dolores and the late Lawrence Weiss Sr. of West Bend.

Preceding him in death were his nephew, Kevin Henning, and brothers-in-law, Danny Wilson and Peter Weiss.

Dennis was employed by the city of Milwaukee for over 24 years.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m. at the Harder Funeral Home, Brookfield.

Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home from noon to 4 p.m.

Dolores R. "Laurie" Stengl

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home in Grafton for Dolores R. "Laurie" Stengl who died on Oct. 12, 2001 at St. Mary’s Ozaukee Hospital at the age of 76.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 p.m. until the time of service at 7.

Mueller Funeral Home of Grafton is assisting the family.

Mrs. Stengl was born in Milwaukee on Aug. 4, 1925, the daughter of the late George and Clare (nee Betz) Engel. She married Robert Stengl on Jan. 9, 1953.

She is survived by her husband Robert; daughter Sandy (Dave) Wegner; grandchildren Stephanie and Kevin Wegner; Garrett and Brittany Stengl; daughter-in-law Connie Stengl; sister Virginia Doka.

A son, Jerry, preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mary’s Ozaukee appreciated.

Albert C. "Ollie" Reblin

A memorial service was held Sunday at Community United Methodist Church in Cedarburg for Albert C. "Ollie" Reblin of Grafton, who died on Oct. 10, 2001 at the age of 79. Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral and Cremation of Menomonee Falls assisted the family with arrangements.
Survivors include: wife Orrene (nee Brandt) Reblin; children James (Sandy) Reblin of North Fond du Lac, Roderic (Peggy) Reblin of Port Washington, John (Jill) Reblin of Cedarburg, Joan (Gene) Dana of Cedar Grove, Louise (David) Symes of Muskego; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings Charles (Lila) Reblin, Marie (Richard) Kraeblen and Betty (Richard) Connell.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Anna, his brother Reinhold and sister Ann (Harvey) Livingston.

He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated.

Lorayne E. Meyer

Private funeral services were held for Lorayne E. Meyer who died on Oct. 9, 2001 at the age of 93. Schramka-Densow Funeral Home of Thiensville assisted the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Meyer was a member of the Mequon Woman’s Club and the Weyenberg Library League.

Survivors include grandchildren Lt. Col. Jeffery Meyer of the U.S. Airforce, John C. Meyer, Kate W. Meyer and Lucy (John) Miller; great-grandchildren Melissa, Jared, Tommy and Ian; brother Raymond (Judy); sister Olivia.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter P. Meyer, son Lee W. Meyer, brothers Orville and Norbert.

If desired, memorials to the Weyenberg Library are appreciated.

James A. Harth

James A. Harth, 83, of Jackson, died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at St. Luke's Medical Center.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1917, in Mayfield to the late Miles and Mabel (nee Worden) Harth, and married Marion M. Mayer on June 15, 1946, in Jackson.

She passed away on Aug. 2, 1992.

He graduated from West Bend High School and then became employed as a section worker for the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1968.

He also worked for the West Bend Joint School District #1 where he was the head custodian at Jackson Elementary School. The Jackson School Parent-Teachers Association honored him with an appreciation plate for general service.

He also received the Community Meritorial Award in 1980 from the Jackson Area Business Association.

In 1942, James was drafted into the United States Army, serving in the Philippines, and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery.

He was a member of the Jackson Fire Department, New Hope United Church of Christ, and a charter member of the S/Sgt. Henry F. Gumm Post 486 American Legion.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia (Richard) Herbst of the town of Jackson; two grandsons, Bruce (Kay) Herbst of West Bend and Brad Herbst of Jackson; three great-grandson, Austin, Brian and Sebastian Herbst; a brother, Ralph (Dorothy) of Eagle River; five sisters, Gladys Bergstrom of Milwaukee, Sophia Tesch of Ft. Atkinson, Helen (Norman) Beder of Menomonee Falls, Lois (Richard) Gaskell of Milwaukee and Luella (James) Hagen of Princeton; a sister-in-law, Nevada Harth of Watersmeet, Mich.; two brothers-in-law, Herman Schultz of Green Lake and Ralph Mayer of West Bend; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a son, Lee; four brothers, George, Lester, Miles and Robert; and four sisters, Ruth Harth, Florence Lehner, Lucille Schultz and Mary Ann Boettcher.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. at New Hope United Church of Christ.

Rev. James Hill will officiate, and burial will follow in Peace UCC Cemetery.

Visitation at the Schmidt Funeral Home, Jackson, will be Monday from 4 to 8 .m. and also Tuesday at the church only from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

The family has asked that memorials be given to New Hope UCC or the Marion Harth Scholarship Fund through the S/Sgt. Henry F. Gumm Post #486 American Legion.
