Irene L. Poplin

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001 at the Mueller Funeral Home, Grafton, for Irene L. Poplin, who died on Oct. 24, 2001, at the age of 72. Father Mike Barrett officiated at the ceremony with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee.
She was born July 14, 1929 in Caspian, Mich. to the late Michael and Mary (Tody) Kruzich, and married Harvey Poplin on Oct. 21, 1950.

Survivors include husband Harvey; sons Dennis, Michael, James and John; grandchildren Tim, Pat, David and Jeff; sister Eleanor; brother, Frank.

Further survived by other relatives and friends.

Carol Nauman
Funeral services will be held today at 4:30 p.m. at First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg for Carol Nauman (nee Barth) of Grafton, who died on Oct. 29, 2001 at Cedar Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cedarburg at the age of 72.

Entombment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield. Visitation will be at the church today from 2:30 p.m. until time of service.

Mrs. Nauman was born in Milwaukee on March 26, 1929 to the late Clarence and Norma (nee Schultz) Barth and married Jack Nauman on June 18, 1948 in Shorewood.

Survivors include her husband Jack of Grafton; children Holly (Dennis) Rokacy of Eden Prairie, Minn., Scott Nauman of Appleton and Daniel (Toni) Nauman of Kewaskum, grandchildren Betsy and Abby Rokacy of Eden Prairie and one sister Sharlane (Alan) Rosenberger of Atlanta.

She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Memorials to the First Immanuel Lutheran Organ Fund appreciated.

Mueller Funeral Home Grafton assisted the family with arrangements.

Patricia Louise Fassbender

Funeral services were held on Oct. 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eagle River for Patricia Louise Fassbender, who died on Oct. 25, 2001 at the age of 70. Rev. Michael Hayden officiated at the ceremony.
Arrangements were handled by Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River.

Mrs. Fassbender was born June 17, 1931 in Clintonville. She married Jerome "Jerry" Fassbender on Aug. 16, 1952 at St. Malachy’s in Horicon. She worked as a homemaker and was the membership chairman for the St. Germain Fish and Wildlife Club. She was also a member of SERVE, St. Mary’s Catholic Church for 15 years, the St. Mary’s Alter Society, and very active in the Girl Scouts, and a volunteer for the Plum Lake Library.

Survivors include husband Jerome J. Fassbender of St. Germain; daughters Susan (Rick) Buchanan of Watertown, Karen (Carlton) Boswell of Milwaukee; sons Daniel (Deborah) Fassbender of St. Mary’s, Kan., Thomas (Kathy) Fassbender of Menasha; brothers-in-law Vernon (Ann) Ward of Kenosha, Jack (Rose) Ward of Kenosha.

She is further survived by 19 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, other relatives and friends.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society or Mass Intentions for Patricia are appreciated.

Kenneth John Simpson

Kenneth John Simpson, 68, of Cedarburg died Oct. 28, 2001 at his home.
He was a husband, father, grandfather and veteran. He served as a librarian and teacher in Cedarburg for 23 years.

He was an avid prankster, who disliked funerals. He was schooled in various Wisconsin institutions of learning, but was self-educated.

Memorials to any charity or to the Simpson Book Fund at the Cedarburg Public Library, W63 N583 Hanover Ave., are greatly appreciated.

Phyllis A. Kippenhan

Memorial services were held Sunday at Friendship Village Chapel in Milwaukee for Phyllis A. Kippenhan (nee Leininger), who died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 at the age of 72.
She is the former wife of Dr. John E. Kippenhan.

Survivors include children Susan (Daniel) Barnhart and Nancy (Rusty) Rustad.

She was the beloved Grandma Foofer to Christa and Amy Barnhart; beloved sister of Carol (Jerry) Luebke of Wisconsin Rapids, aunt of Linda Luebke and dear friend to Beth Drebert and Jay Luebke.

She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials of your choice are appreciated.

The Krause Funeral Home of Milwaukee assisted the family.

Wayne R. Watry

Wayne R. Watry, 43, of West Bend, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, in an automobile accident.

He was born Sept. 24, 1958, in Port Washington, to Richard and Kathryn (Goschey) Watry, and married Karen Van Treeck on June 21, 1980, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, town of Belgium.

Mr. Watry worked as an assembler in the generator plant at Kohler, and also owned and operated West Bend Archery.

He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend, and was a certified bow technician and shooting instructor.

Wayne enjoyed hunting, biking, camping, bird watching, his family and his children's sporting events. He also enjoyed listening to his children play the piano.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Kyle, Lynsey, Lauren and Sara, all of West Bend; his father, Richard (Doris) Watry of Belgium; sisters, Diane (John) Ruschak of Merrillville, Ind., Debora (Albert) Martinez of Belgium, Joyce (Randal) Dieck of West Bend and Lisa Watry of Germantown; brothers, Robert (Jane) of Sheboygan and David (Karen) of Cedar Grove; his father-in-law and friend, Eugene Van Treeck of Fredonia; special brothers-in-law, Brian and Gary Van Treeck; brothers-and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many, many friends.

Preceding him in death was his mother, Kathryn.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Highway B, town of Belgium.

Fr. Jerry Brittain will officiate, and burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, West Bend.

Friends may call at the church on Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to an education fund for his children.

The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington, is assisting the family.

Mabel A. Lucas

Mabel A. Lucas, nee Brookins, 89, of West Bend, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center, West Bend.
She was born on April 12, 1912, in Oakfield, to the late Roy and Johanna (nee Thompson) Brookins, and married Harold Serrahn on June 12, 1935, in Ontonagon, Mich. He passed away in January, 1967.

Mable later married Oscar Lucas on March 3, 1980, in Byhalia, Miss. He preceded her in death in August, 1985.

Mabel was an elementary school teacher and librarian in Ontonagon for 29 1/2 years. Following her retirement in 1973 she moved to West Bend.

Mabel was an active member of Pilgrim Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend, and a member of the Pilgrim Ladies Guild, Pilgrim Quilters and Pilgrim Pioneers.

Survivors include two children, Mary (Matt) Lehtimaki of West Bend and John Serrahn of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren, Karen (Clay) Messer of Allenton, Sharon (Greg) Dukoban of Hubertus, Jill (Dave) Simmons of Palm Desert, Calif., Joy (Jeff) Buchholz of West Bend, Sarah Jane Serrahn, Kenneth Serrahn and Thomas Serrahn, all of Milwaukee; eight great-grandchildren, Marijane Maki of Sussex, Jolene Killoran of Iron Mountain, Mich., Nicholas Dukoban of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dana Dukoban of Hubertus, Deziree Simmons of Palm Desert, Daniel Phelps, Derek Phelps and Melanie Buchholz, all of West Bend; two great-great-grandchildren, Sierra Seal and David James Wadman; a brother, A.B. Brookins of Ontonagon; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were two sisters, Dorothy Hawkins and Mary Brookins; and a brother, Winfield Brookins.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend.

Rev. Joseph Fisher will officiate, and entombment will follow in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.

Visitation at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral and Cremation Service, West bend, will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorials to Pilgrim Ev. Lutheran Church, Cedar Campuses or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ontonagon, are appreciated.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Abiders, the D-3 nurses and aides at Cedar Lake Health Care Center for the care they gave to Mabel.

Hugh R. Mason

Hugh R. Mason, 73, of West Bend died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001 at St. Luke’s Medical Center Milwaukee.
He was born on May 5, 1928, in Fairmont, W.V., to the late Hugh N. and Mildred (nee Warden) Mason. Hugh attended the University of Toledo and he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp in Korea. He was united in marriage to Nancy J. Henry on Jan. 4, 1958 in Toledo, Ohio, and in 1968 the couple moved to West Bend.

Hugh worked as a sales engineer for a chemical company for many years, retiring in 1981.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two children, Jeffrey (Nancy) Mason of Menomonee Falls and Carrie (Craig) Telke of Apex, N.C.; two grandchildren, Mitchell Mason and Kelsey Mason; a sister, Barbara (Joseph) Coe of West Virginia; two brothers, Jack Mason of West Virginia and David (Joyce) Mason of Michigan; nieces; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Hugh R. Mason Jr.; and a daughter, Amy Jo Mason.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Myrhum-Patten Funeral & Cremation Service, West Bend, with inurnment of the cremated remains to follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorials to the West Bend Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic are appreciated.
