Shayne K. Lake

Shayne K. Lake, 30, of Hustisford, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Watertown Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 15, 1971, in Hartford, to Michael and Dawn (nee Poppe) Lake, and graduated from Hustisford High School in 1989.

Shayne was a two-time sectional qualifier for the Hustisford High School wrestling team, played football for four years and lettered in football and wrestling.

He completed a marathon in Oregon, Wis., and was an outdoorsman who liked to hunt, fish and camp.

Shayne had many interests. He learned how to make cheese from his grandfather and worked for cheese companies in Lebanon, Wis. For a a time he helped build homes for Christianson Builders. He also helped his dad train Brittany Spaniels for various trials and enjoyed restoring antique motors.

Shayne had lots of friends due to his good nature and his ability to be a good listener. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his parents, Michael and Dawn Lake of Hustisford; his grandparents, George Lake Sr. of Horicon and Richard and Phyllis Poppe of Watertown; his uncles and aunts, George (Kathy) Lake Jr. of Green Bay, James (Aileen) Lake of Juneau, Jean Lake of Rhinelander, Patrick (Kathy) Lake of Hartford, Ronnie (Lorilyn) Geisthardt of Brownsville and Timberly (Joy) Poppe of Johnson Creek; many cousins and loving friends.

Preceding him in death were his grandmother, Alice Lake; an aunt, Pamela Davison; and his cousin, Lorne Lake, to whom he was very close. They are together again in Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 10, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home, Hartford.

Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, Hartford, with Fr. Mike Tess officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Memorials to St. Aidan's Church are appreciated.

Ella O. Walter
Ella O. Walter, nee Gurtner, 86, of Slinger, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Hartford Memorial Hospital, Hartford.

She was born Dec. 24, 1914, in Jackson, to the late Frederick and Marie (Lienhardt) Gurtner, and married Clarence N. Walter on Dec. 31, 1938, at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Hartford.

After marriage, the couple lived in the town of Polk where they farmed.

Later she was an elementary teacher for the Slinger Public School system for 22 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Wisconsin.

Survivors include her husband; five children, Rosalie (Robert) Buch of Menomonee Falls, John (Sherry) Walter of Campbellsport, Elaine (Peter) Strupp and Mark (Karen) Walter, both of Hartford, and Mary (Dick) Keener of Slinger; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Hattie Gurtner and Jeanette (Bill) Reis, both of Hartford; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were two sisters and a brother.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, Slinger.

Pastor John Tschudy will officiate, and interment will be in (Old) St. Kilian's Cemetery, Hartford, at 10 a.m. on Monday.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated.

Margaret L. Fourgere
Margaret L. Fourgere (nee Courtney), 88, of Hustisford passed away on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001 at Clearview Nursing Home, Juneau.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 25, 1913 to Herbert and Anna (nee Gohl) Courtney.

She is survived by her husband, Alain Fourgere of Hustisford; her daughters, Martha Delany of New York and Margaret (William) Trick of Texas; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Visitation took place on Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home, Hartford.

Funeral services followed at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Mike Tess officiating. Private Interment.

Margaret L. Fourgere
Margaret L. Fourgere (nee Courtney), 88, of Hustisford passed away on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001 at Clearview Nursing Home, Juneau.

Edna Stange, 96
Edna Stange, 96, of Beechwood, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at the Beechwood Rest Home.

She was born July 14, 1905, in the town of Scott, to the late John and Louise (Staege) Klug, and on Aug. 15, 1931, married Elmer Stange at Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Scott.

Prior to her marriage, Edna did housekeeping in Milwaukee.

The couple farmed on the homestead in the town of Scott from 1931 until their retirement, and had made their home in Beechwood since 1981.

Her husband passed away on May 17, 2000.

Mrs. Stange was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott, where she was active in the Ladies Aid and other church organizations. She was also a member of the XYZ and ABC Senior Citizens organizations.

Survivors include two daughters, Cordell (Roger) Strack of Kewaskum and Corinne (Edward) Koepke of Beechwood; seven grandchildren, Debra (Glenn) Grosz, Douglas (Brenda) Strack, Diane Strack, Sherry (Tim) Cullen, Michael (Joy) Koepke, Lori Koepke and Julie Koepke; a brother, Victor (Mildred) Klug of the town of Scott; a sister-in-law, Ella Klug of Milwaukee; seven great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were a sister, Annette Hintz; two brothers, Raymond and Marlin Klug; and a great-grandson, Timothy Cullen.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Scott.

Rev. William Robinson will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Monday from noon until the time of services.

Memorials to The Lutheran Hour or Immanuel Lutheran Church Debt Fund are appreciated.

Margaret C. Weiss

Margaret C. Weiss (nee Alliet), 90, of West Bend died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital.
She was born Aug. 2, 1912, in West Bend to the late Bernard and Selma (nee Roybt) Alliet and married Anthony S. Weiss on Nov. 3, 1934, at Holy Angels Church in West Bend. He preceded in death on March 16, 1985.

Margaret was employed as a telephone operator for Wisconsin Telephone Company for a number of years. While raising her family she worked at home for Amity Leather Co. doing lacing. For many years she babysat for many families and will be always remembered by all children as Grandma Choo-Choo. She was a past member of the Barton Homemakers Club and a member of the Christian Woman’s Confraternity at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include three children, James of Windsor, Ruth (Charles) Spaeth and Jean (Jack) Rieke, all of West Bend; 10 grandchildren, Jay (Kris) Weiss, Jon (Ellen) Weiss, Liz (Tom) Werner, Mark (Tricia) Spaeth, Steven (Gretchen Tammes) Spaeth, Laura (Mike) Hoffmann, Corinne (Keith) Sommer, Carla (John) Mueller, Renee (Mitch) Quick and Jim (Clarissa) Rieke; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Weddig of Jackson and Rose Classey of West Bend; a brother-in-law, Sylvester (Ruth) Hron of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Helen Wolf of West Bend; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by a grandson Charles A. Spaeth; four brothers, William, Emil, "Jerry" Sylvester and Frank; and two sisters, Mary Hron and a sister in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Patrick Wendt presiding. Burial will be Wednesday in St. Mary’s Old Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday at the church only from 4 p.m. until the time of Mass. Memorials to the Full Shelf Food Pantry or the Cedar Lake Health Care Center are appreciated.

Marjorie F. Loos
Marjorie F. Loos, 94, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Shorehaven Healthcare Center in Oconomowoc.

She was born in Antioch, Ill., Dec. 23, 1906, to the late Frederick and Ethel (nee Thayer) Hembrook, and was raised in Chetek in northern Wisconsin with her two brothers and two sisters.

She attended the State Teachers College in Superior, and received a two-year degree.

In the ensuing years she continued her education at many different schools including the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh and Whitewater, Carroll College in Waukesha, and the University of Hawaii.

Marjorie moved to Hartford and began teaching in 1926 at the age of 20. She retired in 1972. In those 45 years she taught a remarkable 92 classes of kindergarteners; her oldest students are now 80, her youngest, 34. Many of those students are still in Hartford and fondly remember their kindergarten teacher.

On June 24, 1936, Marjorie married Stanley Loos of Hartford. He was a watchmaker and jeweler and worked for Pelzer Jewelry. When Mr. Pelzer retired, the store became Loos Jewelry and Stanley and Marjorie operated the store until Stanley passed away in 1965.

Marjorie enjoyed volunteer work in the Hartford community through the years. She was active in the hospital auxiliary, and Mary Circle at First United Methodist Church.

Her particular interest in later years was working in the History Room at the Hartford Library. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Washington County Retired Teachers, Eastern Star, and Hartford Senior Friends.

An avid bridge player and golfer, she loved to bake and tend her roses.

Marjorie is survived by two sisters-in-law, Lenore Hembrook and Hilda Flynn, both of Chetek; and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her sisters, Arlene Murphy Lofstrand and Beulah Curtiss; and brothers, Virgil and Rollo Hembrook.

Memorial services will be Thursday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Hartford.

Pastor Arv Arveson will officiate, and there will be a private interment.

A reception will follow the service at church.

Memorials to the First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund would be appreciated.

The Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home, Hartford, is serving the family.
