Dorothy M. Faust
Dorothy M. Faust, nee Collett, 77, of Hartford, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at the Hartford Care Center.

She was born Feb. 5, 1924, in Plum City, to the late Clyde and Anne (nee Hophan) Collett, and married Joseph Faust n June 2, 1945 at St. Kilian Catholic Church, Hartford.

Dorothy worked for 12 years at J.C. Penney, and was a teacher's aide at Rossman Elementary School for 12 years.

She was a member of St. Kilian Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Beverly (Dennis) Oechsner of Hartford and Donna Jackson of Menomonee Falls; five grandchildren, Eric, Bryan, Jennie, Tyler and Christopher; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Josef; four sisters, Elayne Hefter of West Bend, Betty (Jerry) Schickert of Addison, Carol (Paul) Wolff of Hartford and Peggy (Doyle) Anderson of Riverside, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Gene Simpson of West Bend.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were a sister, Shirley Simpson, and a brother-in-law, Joe Hefter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Lawrence.

Fr. Michael Petrie will officiate, and interment will be in St. Kilian Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends Wednesday at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, from 3:30 to 7 p.m.

Memorials to St. Kilian Church or the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

D. Jean Laufer
D. Jean Laufer, 75, of Springstead, formerly of Slinger, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at her home.

She was born on May 21, 1926, in Slinger, to the late Everett and Leah (Luce) Schubert, and on July 26, 1947, married Gerald Laufer.

Mrs. Laufer was a tool and die maker for Power Products in Grafton for 32 years.

The couple moved to Springstead 17 years ago.

Survivors include her husband; three children, Jean Gerner of West Bend, Jane Gamble of Mount Calvary and John Laufer of Fillmore; four grandchildren; niece; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Private burial will take place at Diefenbach Corner Cemetery, Slinger.

The Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls, is serving the family.

Sylvester Carl Schmidt
Sylvester Carl Schmidt, 82, of Kewskum, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Wauwatosa, from injuries he received from a fall at his home.

He was born Nov. 8, 1919, in the town of Auburn, to the late William and Olga (Eichstedt) Schmidt, and on June 1, 1940, married Ione Backhaus at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kewaskum.

During his lifetime, Sylvester was very involved in his church and community.

He was employed by Regal Ware Inc., Kewaskum, for 20 years, operated Schmidt's Cafe, and retired from the village of Kewaskum in 1982.

He was an active member of St.Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on several boards, including the cemetery board, was a member of the Kewaskum Historical Society, the XYZ Senior Citizens Club, the AAL, the Wayne Wranglers and the Kewskum Auxiliary Police.

Sylvester was an extraordinary handyman and willingly offered a helping hand to everyone.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, family and many friends.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Ione; two sons, Daniel (Phyllis) and Richard (Patricia), both of Kewaskum; a son-in-law, Roman Schulteis of Germantown; a sister, Evangeline (Lloyd) Teeselink of Kewaskum; two sisters-in-law, Vernette Riley of West Des Moines, Iowa and June Backus of Oshkosh; six grandchildren, Brenda (Marty), Lastrilla, Sandee (Joel) Lammers, Christopher (Leslie) Schmidt, Jessica (Randy) Trapp, Tamara Schmidt and Samuel Schmidt; five great-grandchildren, Zachary and Marissa Lastrilla, Travis and Ashley Trapp and Mikayla Schmidt; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were a daughter, Joanne Schulteis; two infant sisters, Beulah and Bernice; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Backus and Donald Backhaus.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m on Friday, Nov. 16, at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Rev. Edwin Fredrich will officiate, and burial will follow in Lutheran Memorial Park, Kewaskum.

Visitation at the Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorials to St. Lucas Stain Glass Window Repair Fund are appreciated.

Richard W. "Dick" Dahm
Richard W. "Dick" Dahm, 76, of West Bend died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at his residence.

He was born to Ewald and Gertrude (Leiven) Dahm on Sept. 16, 1925 in Hartford. He married Laura A. Borchert on Jan. 11, 1947, at Holy Angels Parsonage of West Bend.

He was raised in Iron Ridge and attended Mayville High School, graduating with the class of 1944. After marriage, the couple moved to West Bend. He worked for Bend Industries for 40 years, retiring on Sept. 16, 1987. He was an avid lover of motorcycles, fishing, hunting and cars. He was a member of West Bend Moose Lodge #1398 and Teamsters Local #200.

He is survived by his wife; one brother, Jack (Betty) Dahm of Milwaukee; one sister, Grace (Joe) Ahrens of Milwaukee; three sisters-in-law, Delores (Sandy) Allen of Tucson, Ariz., Violet Westphal of town of Jackson and Ruth (Jerry) Hayes of Hartford; two special nephews, Doug (Rose Ann) Westphal and Mike (Charlene) Westphal; many other nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Edgar.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend with Pastor Bruce Dunford officiating. Interment will take place at Washington County Memorial Park on Thursday at 10 a.m.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of service (7:30 p.m.). Memorials are appreciated to Heartland Hospice or First Baptist Church of West Bend.

The Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend is assisting the family.

The family sends a special thank you to the staff at Heartland Hospice for all the care and concern shown Dick.

John F. Kopp
John F. Kopp, 87, of the town of Barton, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Samaritan Health Center.

He was born to the late Elias and Emma (Rilling) Kopp on Aug. 24, 1914, and was raised in the town of Barton on the homestead that the family has owned since 1846.

He was a dairy farmer and had a route in the county selling eggs, apples, berries and vegetables.

On Dec. 10, 1974, he married Marion E. Ahlers (nee Wolff) on at the Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, West Bend.

After marriage, the couple continued to live and work on the farm.

John was a leader of the Kohlsville Pioneers 4-H Club for many years and served as an officer and past president of the County Leader's Association.

He was also a chairman of the County Fair 4-H Refreshment Stand Committee and for over 20 years was a superintendent of the Crops Department.

The Washington County Fairbook was dedicated to him in 1963 for all his hard work at the county fair.

John was an active member of the Washington County Fruit Growers Association, a member of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, and a band member with the Senior Center of West Bend.

Survivors include his wife; Marion's three sons, their wives and their children; eight nieces: Mary Lou (Bill) Dombrock of Germantown, Joyce (Carl) Kirchner of West Bend, Sherry (Michael) McElhatton of Kewaskum, Linda Kopp of Milwaukee, Elaine (Greg) Schiek of Conover, Margaret "Peggy" (Don) Wadley of Boise Idaho, Laurie (James) Oswald of Iron Ridge, and Nancy (Peter) Wojciechowski of Rockford, Ill.; a nephew: James (Robin) Foerster of Kewaskum; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, great-nieces and nephews, great- great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a brother, Wesley, and a sister, Martha Foerster.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church of West Bend.

Pastor Verlin Wandry will officiate, and interment will take place in Union Cemetery of West Bend on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 9:30 a.m.

Visitation at the church only will be on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 3 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated to the Harvest House of West Bend or to Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church.

The Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend, is assisting the family.

Jean A. Peters
Jean A. Peters, nee Mueller, 60, of the town of Herman, passed away on Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Hartford Memorial Hospital.

She was born on July 5, 1941, in Hartford, to the late Erwin and Lucinda (nee Stommel) Mueller, and married Albert Peters on Aug. 31, 1963, at St. John's Catholic church, Rubicon.

Jean graduated from Moraine Park technical College as a dietician and worked for Herman School for 30 yeas.

She waitressed at Lisko's Tap for many years and was on its bowling team. She also loved to decorate cakes, cook and garden.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Terry of Hartford, Gary (LeAnn) of Theresa, and Randy (Patty) and Jeff (Karyn), both of West Bend; a daughter, Brenda (Skip) Rumppe of West Bend; nine grandchildren, Chad, Jason, Joey, Nikki, Teri, Danny, Holli Anne, Deanna and Chad; five great-grandchildren, Bryan, Kaylah, Katie, Joshua and Colin; two sisters, Mary (Harold) Thimm of Rubicon and LaVerne (Gerald) Geiger of Franklin; a sister-in-law, Donna (Joe) Kalscheuer of West Bend; three brothers-in-law, Wayne (Lynn) Peters of Theresa, Dennis (Nancy) Peters of West Bend and Ray Peters of Grafton; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding her in death was her twin sister, Joan.

She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Rubicon.

Fr. Russel Stommel will officiate, and interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Rubicon.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church only on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

The Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, is assisting the family.
