James R. LaValley
WAUPUN - James R. LaValley, 51, of Waupun, died onMonday, Aug. 21, 2000, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waupun. The Rev. Michael Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in Superior, at a later date.

Mr. LaValley was born on April 7, 1949, in Superior, the son of Emanuel "Pete" and Irene (Gella) LaValley. He was married on April 18, 1970, to Karen Richardson, in Superior.

Mr. LaValley graduated from the Cathedral High School, Superior. He received a bachelors and masters degree at UW-Superior. He also worked toward a specialist in education degree. He taught and coached in Racine. He later began his administrative career in Portage.

He had been the Waupun High School principal for the past 19 years and participated in the development of the new high school. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waupun, the Lion's Club, Associations of Wisconsin School Administrators and Phi Sigma Epsilon.

Survivors include his wife, Karen LaValley, Waupun; two daughters, Tara (John) Ninmann, Watertown, and Kristin LaValley (fiance, Glen Ritter), Minneapolis; one son, Andrew LaValley; parents, Pete and Irene LaValley, Superior; one brother, Dennis (Sharon) LaValley, Superior; mother-in-law, Ada Richardson, Superior; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Dorothea L. Mueller
Dorothea L. Mueller, 83, of 803 S. University Ave., Beaver Dam, formerly of 220 Park Ave., Beaver Dam and Comstock Lake, Germania, died on Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Hillside Manor Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, at 10:30 a.m., at First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Paul Lindau will officiate. Inurnment of the cremains will be on Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam, after the memorial service.

Mrs. Mueller was born on Dec. 31, 1916, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Edwin and Anna (Gerlicher) Volkman. She was married on Jan. 15, 1938, to Albert Mueller, in Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Mueller graduated from Beaver Dam High School at age 16. She was employed as an activity director at Lakeview Nursing Home until her retirement. She was a member of First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, Community Hospital Auxiliary, active in Girl Scouts of America, an active volunteer in numerous organizations, as those who knew her well know.

She most enjoyed working at her cottage and spending time with her family. She loved nature, good music and the Packers and the Brewers. An avid and accomplished bridge player, she also enjoyed a mean game of "spite and malice." Her cooking and entertaining were legendary...as she is. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was a remarkable, giving woman.

Survivors include one son, Ross A. (Lois) Mueller, Appleton; two daughters, Sunny (Monrico) Lehnert, Greenly, Colo., and Beth Arthur (special friend, Terry Lane), Mosinee; three sisters, Caryl Goetz, Beaver Dam, Beth Dezer, Plymouth, Ma., and Anita (Robert) Glockner Bellingham, Ma.; five grandchildren, Tristan, Anthony and Alexander Lehnert; Nathan Mueller and Lisa Ash; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; one sister, Ina; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Dezer and Dan Goetz.

Friends may call on Friday, Sept. 8, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, or the Beaver Dam Public Library.

The Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Harley G. Fox
COLUMBUS - Harley G. Fox, 90, of Columbus, died on Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at the Larson House, Columbus.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 25, at 6 p.m., at Olivet Congregational Church, Columbus. The Rev. Denise Cole will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery, Columbus.

Friends may call on Friday, Aug. 25, from 4 p.m. until the time of service at the Olivet Congregational Church, Columbus.

Memorials may be made to the Olivet Congregational Church.

The Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus, is serving the family.

Donald Furman
PORTAGE - Donald Furman, 67, formerly of Rio, died on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at his daughter's home, following a long illness.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 3:30 p.m., at Vangen Funeral Home, Rio. The Rev. C. Keith Epps will officiate. Cremation will take place.

Mr. Furman was born on Feb. 20, 1933, in Chicago, the son of Joseph and Helen (Osselborne) Furman.

Mr. Furman was a graduate of J. Sterling Morton High School, Chicago, then graduated from Western Electric in tool and die. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He worked for 19 years at the UW-Physical Science and Research Labratory (PSL), retiring in 1997. He lived in the Rio area for almost 30 years, prior to that in Wyocena.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Furman, Wyocena; two daughters, Donna Lynn (Mike) McDonald, Atlanta, Ga., and Sandra Ramsey, Portage; two sons, Brian (Cynthia) Furman, Chicago, and David Furman, Portage; one brother, Robert Furman, Rockford, Ill.; one sister, Marilynn Furman, Ciscero, Ill.; eight grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at Vangen Funeral Home, Rio.

Memorials may be made to Home Health Care Hospice in his memory.

Marcia Vossekuil
BRANDON - Marcia Vossekuil, 44, of Brandon, died on Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., at Alto Reformed Church, Alto. The Rev. Ted Lindman will officiate. Burial will be in Alto cemetery.

Miss Vossekuil was born on Sept. 25, 1955, in Waupun, the daughter of Lloyd and Pearl (Kastein) Vossekuil.

Miss Vossekuil was a 1974 graduate of Laconia High School. She was employed by Parkview Nursing Home, Ripon for 17 years, The Heidel House on Green Lake for six years, and was recently employed by ADMANCO Inc., Ripon, for the past three months. She was a member of Alto Reformed Church. Alto, where she was a member of its Senior Club and taught Sunday school. She was very fond of her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her parents, Pearl and Lloyd Vossekuil, Brandon; one sister, Kay (David) Block, Lima, Peru; two brothers, Mark (Beth) Vossekuil and Scott (Robin) Vossekuil, both of Brandon; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Thursday, Aug. 24, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Friday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at Alto Reformed Church.

Edwin Karl
Edwin Karl, 88, of Beaver Dam, died on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. William Key will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter's cemetery, Beaver Dam. A rosary will be said by the Secular Fransican Order one-half hour prior to the funeral Mass.

Mr. Karl was born on July 26, 1912, in Beaver Dam, the son of Elizabeth Karl.

Mr. Karl lived in the Beaver Dam area all of his life. He attended St. John's School for the Deaf at St. Francis. He then worked at Nashban's Liquor store for 30 years. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam, and a member of the Secular Fransican Order. He was active at the Beaver Dam Senior Center, building bird houses.

Survivors include cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth, in 1946; five aunts; and six uncles.

Friends may call on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

The Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Elizabeth A. Caughlin
Elizabeth A. Caughlin, 82, of Beaver Dam, died on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Hillside Manor, Beaver Dam.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 25, at noon, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Eileen Kuehnl will officiate. Burial will be in the Beaver Dam City cemetery, at a later date.

Mrs. Caughlin was born on Dec. 11, 1917, in Poynette, the daughter of Mally and Anna Wheeler. She was married on April 11, 1942, to Erwin Caughlin, in Iowa.

Mrs. Caughlin was a 1935 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. She was a nurse's aid at St. Joseph's Hospital, Beaver Dam, then worked at the Weyenberg Shoe factory for over 30 years before retiring in 1980. She was an avid bowler and a volunteer at Hillside Hospital with the Hands of Friendship. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Sweet Adelines and the Boot and Shoe Workers Union.

Survivors include one daughter, Geraldine "Geri" (Richard) Linde, Beaver Dam; four grandchildren, Beth Roedel and Anne (Gary) Shawny, both of Beaver Dam, Jill Grundahl, Columbus, and Lisa (Ted) Bonner, Brookfield; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Roedel, Lydia Grundahl, Megan Grundahl and Nicholas Bonner; two sisters-in-law, Esther Caughlin and Louise Wheeler, both of Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erwin, in 1994; two brothers, Fred and Mally; and one sister, Merna Mullin.

Friends may call on Friday, Aug. 25, at the time of service, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Beaver Dam, or the Hillside Manor Activity Fund.

Evelyn M. Mohr
Evelyn M. Mohr, 86, of 140 Judson Drive, Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, at noon, at Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Paul Hudson will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, township of Trenton.

Mrs. Mohr was born on June 25, 1914, in Poplar, the daughter of A. Magnus and Ann C. (Swanson) Johnston. She was married to Ed Ramel. She was married on June 22, 1957, to Leonard L. Mohr.

Mrs. Mohr was employed at Weyenberg Shoe Factory, Beaver Dam, for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include one step-daughter, Darlene Davidson, Portage; one daughter-in-law, Alice Mohr, Madison; two sisters, Betty (Gerry) Kohmann, Wilmington, Calif., and Joyce (Douglas) Lowney, Tempe, Ariz.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces nephews, relatives and friends

She was preceded in death by both husbands, Ed Ramel and Leonard L. Mohr; one son, James Ramel, in the Korean War; and two sisters, Mildred and Edna.

Friends may call on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 11 a.m., until the time of service, at Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made toward a memorial plaque on the Korean War Memorial in honor of James Ramel's service.

Earl A. Mc Intyre
NEENAH - Earl Arthur Mc Intyre, 93, of Neenah, died recently.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 4 p.m., at Westgor Funeral Home, Neenah. The Rev. Nancy Twichell will officiate. Inurnment of the cremains will be in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum, Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah.

Mr. Mc Intyre was born on Sept. 13, 1906, in Appleton.

Mr. Mc Intyre was a 1925 graduate of Waupun High School. He received a bachelors degree in journalism from the University of Missouri in 1929. He worked in the newspaper business in Chadwick and Harvard Ill. until World War II. He served 39 months as a military intelligence officer in the South Pacific and suffered flare-ups of malaria picked up during the Guadalcanal campaign. He retired from the Army Reserves as a major in 1961.

After World War II, he taught journalism and advertising at Michigan State University, Lansing, and received his master's degree in advertising and management from the Medill School of journalism at Northwestern University in 1952. While at MSU, he was assistant to the head of the University's Journalism Department. He left MSU in 1956 for Florida State University's Journalism School in Tallahassee. He became director of advertising and promotion for the Florida Development Commission. He helped form the Florida Magazine Association, was a lifetime member, served as executive director, and conducted their annual magazine contest and workshop.

He was named associate professor of Journalism at the University of South Carolina in 1961, where he served as secretary-manager of the South Carolina Press Association and as executive president of the Advertising Club in Columbia and was presented the Advertising Federation of American Printers Ink Silver Medal Award, "In recognition of his outstanding contribution to advertising." He was named director of communication at Northern Michigan University, Marquette, in 1965, a position he held until going to Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, in 1972. At Northern Michigan, he supervised the University News Bureau, Athletic News Bureau, the university editor's office, the university lecture-concert series and special public relations projects.

He was past president of the Marquette Kiwanis Club, past director of Big Brothers, past president of the Upper Peninsula Boy Scouts, and second vice president and director of the Marquette Community Chest. At VCU, he was a visiting professor of journalism for an academic year, he stayed in teaching until 1975. He was a consultant to the Virginia Press Association and the Old Dominion Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. He was asked to become VCU's first full-time sports information director. He stayed in the athletic department until 1986. He worked in the VCU police department handling the switchboard and the lost-found department. He retired in 1995. He performed community service through the Hanover Social Services, the Virginia Home for Boys, the Henrico Juvenile Center, the Beaumont Training Center and other like organizations. He was a Methodist, a past patron of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Masons, and a 50 year member of both organizations. He was a lifetime member of the Society of Professional Journalists, Sigma Delta Chi, the American Academy of Professors of Advertising, and Kappa Alpha Mu photographic fraternity.

Survivors include one sister, Blanche, Neenah; nieces nephews, relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gordon; and one sister, Charlotte.

The Westgor Funeral Home, Neenah, is serving the family.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice or foundation formed at any of the universities where he worked, or to the Virginia Home for Boys, Richmond, Va.
