Warren W. Evans
NEW JERSEY - Warren W. Evans, 78, of East Brunswick, N.J., died on Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m., at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Randolph. The Rev. Linda K. Heisler will officiate. Burial will be in the Cambria cemetery. Randolph VFW Post 9510 will be conducting military graveside rites.

Mr. Evans was born on Nov. 23, 1921, in the Randolph/Cambria area, the son of the late William and Ellen (Hopkins) Evans.

Mr. Evans was a 1939 Beaver Dam High School graduate, he received his bachelor's degree from the UW-Madison in 1943. He was an army veteran of World War II serving with the chemical corp, and was a prisoner of war in Germany. Following the war he returned to Madison and received his PhD as a chemical engineer from the University of Wisconsin in 1952. He was employed with E.I. Du Pont Photo Products in Parlin and Sayreville, N.J.

Survivors include one brother, Robert (Caroline) Evans, Camden, Ark.; cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Monday, Aug. 28, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Randolph.

The Randolph Community Funeral Home, Randolph, is serving the family.

Wilma I. Braun
SUN PRAIRIE - Wilma I. Braun, 78, died on Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Meriter Park Hospital, Madison.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m., at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 550 Lincoln Drive, Sun Prairie. The Revs. David J. Berggren and Dean Kirst will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Monday, Aug. 28, at 2:30 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Reedsburg. The Rev. Amy Swanson will officiate.

Mrs. Braun was born on Oct. 26, 1921, in Reedsburg, the daughter of Albert and Meta (Goetz) Rusch. She was baptized, confirmed, and on Feb. 23, 1941, was married to Robert C. Braun, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Reedsburg.

Together they owned the Braun's Dairy Bar, Braun's Market and worked at the Sauk County Health Care Center for Superintendent Max and Ruth Shultis. They became co-administrators of the LaFayette Manor on June 1, 1967. In 1974, they transferred to Juneau, where Wilma was administrator of the Dodge County Center and Robert the administrator of Clearview Nursing Home. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Sun Prairie, a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 26 of Reedsburg, the 20th Century Club of Sun Prairie and the Colonial Club of Sun Prairie.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Marilyn) Braun, Pewaukee, and Richard (Patricia) Braun, Waukesha; one daughter, Sandra Braun, Madison; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Brielmaier, Dale, Wis., Kathrine, Karen and Michael Braun, all of Waukesha; two sisters, Viola Schultz and Florence Behn, both of Reedsburg; relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Sunday, Aug. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, and on Monday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at the church.

The Cress Funeral Home, Sun Prairie, is serving the family.

Ben R. Bergum
RIO - Ben R. Bergum, 19, died on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at UW-Hospital, Madison, due to injuries following an accidental fall.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday. Aug, 27, at 2:30 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus. The Rev. Robert Moberg will officiate.

Mr. Bergum was born on March 11, 1981, at Eau Claire Lutheran Hospital, to Robert and Cheryl (Zentner) Bergum.

Mr. Bergum attended grade school at St. Jerome's, Columbus, and graduated from Wayland Academy in 1999. At Wayland, Ben participate in swim team, soccer and other school activities. His senior year, Ben participated in leadership activities as a Prefect. He was employed at Demco Corp., DeForest, and was attending summer classes at MATC. He had been a member at Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Cheryl Bergum, Rio; maternal grandparents, Betty and Delmar Zentner, Mt. Horeb; paternal grandparents, Thelma and Russell Hurd, Portage; maternal great-grandmother, Alma Zentner, Mt. Horeb; aunts and uncles, Pat and Rod Zentner, Mt. Horeb, Volla LaFond, Madison, Julie and Jerry Landmark, Madison, Debbie and Jay Schneider, Mt. Horeb, Holly and Charles Carnes, Washington D.C., Steve and Pam Bergum, Milwaukee, Paul and Barbara Bergum, Rio; counsins, Mark Bergum, Chicago, Lauren Bergum, Milwaukee, Eric, Marissa and Janna Bergum, Rio, Anna Landmark, Michigan, Katie Landmark, Stevens Point, Jaclyn and Kevin Schneider, Mt. Horeb, Ryan LaFond, Madison, and Kyle LaFond, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Eugene Bergum.

Friends may greet the family following the service.

Memorials may be made to Wayland Academy Scholarship for a memorial scholarship to be established in Ben's memory.

Lisa M. Johnson
BEAVER DAM/LODI - Lisa M. Johnson, 31, of W10086 Highway CC, Beaver Dam, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m., at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Philip Heyer will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Johnson was born on May 19, 1969, in Sauk Prairie, the daughter of Ronald and Joan (Benesh) Kohn. She was married on Nov. 14, 1992, to Corey Johnson, at St. Patrick's Church, Lodi.

Mrs. Johnson was a 1987 graduate of Lodi High School. She was an avid athlete and enjoyed basketball the most. She worked at Century 21 Real Estate, Beaver Dam, and was Rookie Real Estate Agent of the Year in 1999. She was a member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

She was a devoted mother and wife. She enjoyed her family, friends and life. She always had a loving and caring smile for all. Mommy, we will always love you, Morgan, Bryce and Brianna.

Survivors include her husband, Corey Johnson, Beaver Dam; three children, Morgan, age six, Bryce, age five, and Brianna, age three, all at home; her parents, Ronald and Joan Kohn, Lodi; one sister, Cindy (Craig) Meister, Lodi; one brother, Rick (Donna) Kohn, Lodi; mother-in-law and father-in-law David and Carol Johnson, Montello; maternal grandparents, Paul and Marcella Benesh, Lodi; one sister-in-law, Kristi (Dennis) Mays, Wisconsin Dells; three nieces, Rachel and Renee Meister and Darcy Kohn; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Eleanor Kohn-Hartwig.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, and on Wednesday Aug. 30, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

A memorial fund for Lisa's children will be established.

Jon Anton
REESEVILLE - Jon Anton, 43, of W4850 Cowbird Road, Reeseville, died on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Hillside Manor Nursing Home, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 10:30 a.m., at First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Paul Lindau will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mr. Anton was born on Sept. 5, 1956, in Beaver Dam, the son of Herbert and Joyce (Helbing) Anton.

Mr. Anton was a graduate of Dodgeland High School. He farmed for a number of years and was a building contractor. He enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, hunting, boating and golfing. He was a member of the Columbus Rod and Gun Club and a former member of the Sun Prairie Health Club.

Survivors include his parents, Herbert and Joyce Anton, Reeseville; one daughter, Kelly Anton, Reeseville; beloved friend, Jean Anton, Reeseville; one brother, Jeff (Cathy) Anton, DeForest; four sisters, Debbie (Scott) Donovan, Mequon, Sandra (Terry) Kelly, Park City, Utah, Becky Blalock, Eau Claire, and Jill (Larry) Byrnes, Patuxent River, Md.; maternal grandfather, Richard Helbing, Beaver Dam; paternal grandmother, Frieda Anton, Beaver Dam; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Marie Helbing; paternal grandfather, Herbert Anton; and two nephews, Adam and Aaron Anton.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made toward an education fund for his daughter, Kelly.

Agnes Linzmaier
IRON RIDGE - Agnes Linzmaier, 82, Iron Ridge, died on Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Hartford Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Church, Woodland. The Rev. Russel Stommel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Woodland.

Mrs. Linzmaier was born on Sept. 27, 1917, in Marathon, the daughter of John and Anna (Nowacki) Stencil. She was married on June 27, 1953, to John Linzmaier, at Holy Angels Church, Milwaukee.

Mrs. Linzmaier was a member of St. Mary's Church, Woodland.

Survivors include one step-son, Joseph (Lois) Linzmaier, Dawsonville, Ga.; three brothers, Eddie (Rose) Stencil, Benedict Stencil, both of Milwaukee, and Theodore (Martha) Stencil, Marathon; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1982; one brother, Walter; four sisters, Mary Stencil, Emma Uraminski, Josephine Labutsky and Helen Badzinski.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m., and on Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at St. Mary's Church, Woodland.

Rita J. McCormick
TREMPEALEAU - Rita J. McCormick, 62, of Trempealeau, died on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, LaCrosse, of cancer.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m., at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church, Trempealeau. The Rev. Robert Wagner will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Trempealeau.

Mrs. McCormick was born on March 5, 1938, in Door County, the daughter of Clement and Marie (Finigan) Hinz. She was married on Aug. 17, 1957, to Claude McCormick, in Beaver Dam.

Mrs. McCormick attended schools in Milwaukee, Patch Grove, Beaver Dam and Randolph.

Survivors include her husband, Claude McCormick, Trempealeau; three daughters, Barbara (Dan) Johnson, Arlington, Texas, Linda (Patrick) Silver, Irving, Texas, and Debra (Jerry) Jacobs, Trempealeau; one son, Tim McCormick, Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; one brother, Tom (Jean) Hinz, Sun Prairie; one sister, Joan (Earl) Roberts, Beaver Dam; her mother-in-law, Mary McCormick, Randolph; three brothers-in-law, Duane (Betty) McCormick, Oak Creek, Richard (Sandra) McCormick, and James (Joan Barth) McCormick, both of LaCrosse; one sister-in-law, Mary Pat (Jeff) Quinter, Necedah; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Hubert McCormick; and one granddaughter, Chelsea Jacobs.

Friends may call on Monday, Aug. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. liturgical vigil, at Zwickey Funeral Home, Galesville Chapel, Galesville.

Russell Vanden Berg
WAUPUN - Russell "Van" Vanden Berg, 69, of Brandon, died on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 10:30 a.m., at Bethel Reformed Church, Brandon. The Rev. LeRoy Boender will officiate. Burial will be in Brandon cemetery.

Mr. Vanden Berg was born on Nov. 22, 1930, in Brandon, the son of Albert and Julia (Kastein) Vanden Berg. He was married on Sept. 24, 1954, to Jessie Vande Zande, in Brandon.

Mr. Vanden Berg was in partnership with his father in Vanden Berg Contractors until 1978, at which time he became employed by the Brandon-Rosendale School District in maintenance until 1990. He owned and operated Van's Discount in Brandon for four years and later worked for Giddings & Lewis, Fond du Lac, as a security guard, retiring in March 2000. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, and a charter member of Bethel Reformed Church, Brandon, where he served as deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Vanden Berg, Brandon; two sons, Joel Vanden Berg and James Vanden Berg, both of Brandon; two daughters, Jane (Robert) Nitschke, Lamartine, and Jean (Scott) Alexander, Randolph; two grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine (Henry) Vande Zande, Brandon; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Jon.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at Bethel Reformed Church, Brandon.

Steven E. Gerrard
FOX LAKE - Steven Edward Gerrard, 49, of Fox Lake, left this earthly life on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, to be with Christ and his Father in Heaven after a valiant battle with cancer.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m., at the Friesland Reformed Church, Friesland. The Rev. Ronald Vander Werff will officiate. Burial will be in Friesland cemetery.

Mr. Gerrard was born on Oct. 11, 1950, in San Diego Calif., the son of Stanley and Bertha (Chapman) Gerrard.

Mr. Gerrard graduated from high school in 1969. He lived in the Fox Lake area on and off for the past eight years, enjoyed his work and watching the deer in the fields. He was very talented at leather-craft and many people today still enjoy seeing his work. He also had a great knowledge and interest in computers. There was nothing that he couldn't make a computer do.

He'll be remembered fondly by family and friends for his love of life, his love for his family and friends, his concern for their well being and his quick wit and ability to be able to look life "straight in the eye." He was always able to see the good in people. Even in the pain of his last days, he was always thinking of his family and friends. He never gave up.

Survivors include two daughters, Wendi Mae (Stewart) Horne, Friesland, and Jessika Gerrard, Madison; one son, Joshua "Josh" Gerrard, Madison; two grandchildren, Hailey and Allissa Horne, Friesland; one niece, Shamae Tanner, Denver; one sister, Pam Gerrard, Denver; close friends, Paul Haurtlaub, Milwaukee, Paul E. Nickolai and his son, Calvin, Oshkosh, Allen Pearson and Jeff Brown, both of Fox Lake; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. We will all miss Steve dearly.

A memorial has been established in Steve's name.

The Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Cambria, is serving the family.

Leonard Worzala
JACKSONVILLE, FLA.- Leonard Worzala, 74, of Jacksonville, Fla., died on Saturday, July 29, 2000, at his home.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Robert W. Ginther Post No. 521, of Fox Lake, on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m., at Riverside Memorial Park, Fox Lake. Inurnment will be in Riverside Memorial Park, Fox Lake.

Mr. Worzala was born on Nov. 1, 1925, the son of Frank and Martha Worzala. He was married on Sept. 14, 1958, to Marie Macheel, in Fox Lake. Walter and Violet Macheel, Randolph, were their attendants. The reception was held on their farm.

Mr. Worzala was in World War II in the European Theater from February 1944 to June 1946. He attended schools and worked in Milwaukee before his marriage. He enjoyed piloting a small plane, hunting, boating, water and snow skiing and restored several vehicles. He worked with Boy Scout Troop No. 99 as committee chairman, with several of the boys receiving their Eagle Award. He retired as a general contractor after his first heart attack, May 3, 1977. Spending leisure time with his three grandchildren and his family was an important part of his life.

Survivors include his wife, of 41 years, Marie (Macheel) Worzala; two sons, Daniel (Teri Sikes, divorced) Worzala, Jacksonville, Fla., and Donald (Joanne Beltran) Worzala, Ponte Vedra, Fla.; two granddaughters, Allison and Paige Worzala Jacksonville, Fla.; one grandson, Ian Worzala, Ponte Vedra, Fla.; three brothers, Norbert (Alice Luba) Worzala and Clarence (Mary Lownik) Worzala, both of Milwaukee, and Ernest (Joan Corona) Worzala, Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Jeannette (Worzala) Stamm, Milwaukee; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Martha Worzala, Milwaukee; and one brother, Frank Worzala, Madison.

In remembrance of Leonard, 75 family members and friends gathered Sunday, Aug. 20, at the Walter Macheel farm, Randolph.

The Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Fox Lake, is serving the family.
