Julia M. Schwantes
MAYVILLE - Julia M. Schwantes, 105, of 305 Clark St., Mayville, formerly of 313 Williams St., Mayville, died on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at the Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayville. The Rev. Charles Wester will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, Mayville.

Mrs. Schwantes was born on Jan. 18, 1895, in Theresa, the daughter of John and Jenny (Kohl) Miller. She was married on May 6, 1919, to Emil W. Schwantes in Milwaukee.

Mrs. Schwantes was a seamstress for many years in the Mayville and Theresa area. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayville.

Survivors include one daughter, Lila (Walter) Schellpfeffer, Mayville; two sons, James (Ione) Schwantes, New Bern, N.C., and Robert (Elizabeth) Schwantes, Carmichael, Calif.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil, in 1966; and two brothers, John and Oscar.

Friends may call on Friday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. until the time of service, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayville.

The Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville, is serving the family.

Dale A. Lehner
MAYVILLE - Dale A. Lehner, 46, of 305 Clark St., Mayville, formerly of Iron Ridge, died on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Brown's Corners. The Rev. K. Roever will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, Mayville.

Mr. Lehner was born on June 6, 1954, in Waupun, the son of Harold and Ruth (Manthey) Lehner.

Mr. Lehner was a graduate of Mayville High School. After a lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis, he retired from farming in 1987. He enjoyed his motorcycle, "oldies" and lending a helping hand.

Survivors include his parents, Harold and Ruth Lehner, Iron Ridge; four brothers, Thomas (Donna) Lehner, Fond du Lac, Jim (Sue) Lehner, Mayville, Scott (Martha) Lehner, Beaver Dam, and Terry (Patty) Lehner, Madison; three sisters, Sue (Nick) Persha, and Cindy (Greg) Krueger, both of Mayville, and Bonnie (Richard) Louden, Hustisford; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and one nephew.

Friends may call on Saturday, Oct. 28, from noon until the time of service, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Brown's Corners.

The Cottrill Funeral Home, Mayville, is serving the family.

Calvin Behrend
Calvin "Cal" Behrend, 65, of N7370 Malibu Lane, Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at his home, after being diagnosed eight months ago with a brain tumor.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Daniel Massie will officiate.

Mr. Behrend was born on April 1, 1935, in Beaver Dam, the son of George W. and Anna (Wiselus) Behrend. He was married on Feb. 19, 1966, to Nancy (Neis) Welsch, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Mr. Behrend was a graduate of Beaver Dam High School. He worked at MetalFab in Beaver Dam for 28 years and then as a production welder at the Maysteel Corporation, Columbus Division. He was a veteran Marine, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. He enjoyed wood crafts and boat building. He was an avid ice fisherman and enjoyed ice boating.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Behrend, Beaver Dam; one son, Joseph Behrend, Cottageville, S.C.; two step-daughters, Jackie Reifsnider, Beaver Dam, and Debbie Huck, Cottageville, S.C.; three grandchildren, Julie, John and Jill Reifsnider, Beaver Dam; one brother, Jack (Dorothy) Kutcher, Beaver Dam; four half-sisters, Jen Soboleski, Beaver Dam, Sylvia Romeo, Pewaukee, Lorraine Schaefer, Juneau, and Gladys (Bud) Schoenwetter, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother; two sisters, Adeline Baszynski and Marge Else; and one brother, Don Kutcher.

Friends may call on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to Beaver Dam Hillside Hospice program or the Sharing and Caring Committee at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

The Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Ruth I. Herman
THERESA - Ruth I. Herman, 81, of 319 Forest St., Theresa, died on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at her daughter's home in Rosendale.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, at noon, at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville. The Rev. Vincent Holubowicz will officiate. Burial will be in St. Theresa Memorial Gardens, Theresa.

Mrs. Herman was born on Sept. 29, 1919, in Horicon, the daughter of Frank and Ella (Va Norman) Miescke. She was married on April 6, 1940, to Anthony Herman in Horicon.

Survivors include one son, Bill (Barb) Herman, Hubertus; one daughter, Rosemary (Clyde) Lehto, Rosendale; one brother, Ralph Miescke, Aurora, Colo.; one sister, Evangeline (Adolf) Hanni, Juneau; dear friend, Alex Wurtz, Theresa; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers; and two sisters.

Friends may call on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville.

Leo J. Schraufnagel
LOMIRA - Leo J. Schraufnagel, 84, N10669 Highway YY, Lomira, died on Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at his home, with his family by his side.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, Oct. 30, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, LeRoy. The Revs. Michael Wild and Robert J. Berghammer will officiate. Burial will be in St. Andrew's cemetery.

Mr. Schraufnagel was born on Dec. 17, 1915, the son of John and Christine (Kiefer) Schraufnagel, in LeRoy. He was married on Sept. 16, 1941, to Lucille Wild in LeRoy.

Mr. Schraufnagel was a lifelong farmer and retired from Mayville Metal Products in 1977. He was a member of St. Andrew 's Catholic Church, LeRoy.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Schraufnagel, Lomira; three sons, Norman (Sharon) Schraufnagel, Waupun, Leo (Roseann) Schraufnagel Jr., LeRoy, and Robert M. (Linda) Schraufnagel, Mayville; one daughter, Carol (Richard) Schabel, Mayville; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Schraufnagel, Lomira, and Mary Schraufnagel, Brownsville; one brother-in-law, Eugene (Mary Ann) Wild, Waupun; nine grandchildren, Sarah Schraufnagel, Angela Schraufnagel, David Schraufnagel, Melissa Schraufnagel, Alicia Schraufnagel, Joey Schraufnagel, Eric Schraufnagel, Kristin Schraufnagel and Jeremy Schraufnagel; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and two sisters.

Friends may call on Sunday, Oct. 30, from 4 to 8:30 p.m., with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville, and on Monday, Oct. 30, from 9 to 10 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville.

Patricia A. Musack
MAYVILLE - Patricia A. Musack, 58, of W2718 Farmersville Road, Mayville, died on Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m., at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville. The Rev. Edward Blonski will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery, Mayville.

Mrs. Musack was born on Oct. 20, 1942, in Waupun, the daughter of Lawrence Casey and Alice (Klow) Wurtz. She was married on Oct. 24, 1964, to Lloyd Musack, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville.

Mrs. Musack was a 1960 graduate of Mayville High School, and a graduate of Marian College, Fond du Lac, with a B.A. degree. She was employed at MEC in Mayville in Human Resources. She was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville, a member of its Altar Guild and Dorcas Society, and a longtime secretary for the Mayville Drug and Alcohol Council.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Musack, Mayville; her mother, Alice Wurtz, Princeton; one daughter, Jennifer (John) Alexandrowicz, Bayview; one son, Nathan (Laura) Musack, West Allis; three brothers, Lawrence (Marion) Wurtz, Fond du Lac, Gene (Alyce) Wurtz, Mayville, and Richard Wurtz, Oak Creek; one sister, Kathy (Jeff) Einecher, Okauchee; four grandchildren, Michael, Sara, Adam and Matthew; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Wurtz; her father-in-law; and her mother-in-law.

Friends may call on Monday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville, and on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville.

Mary Meier
COLUMBUS - Mary Meier, 84, Columbus, died on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Columbus. The Rev. Bruce Hennington will officiate. Burial will be in St. Jerome cemetery.

Mrs. Meier was born on Feb. 25, 1916, in Waunakee, the daughter of John and Katharine (Kurt) Nellen. She was married on Sept. 6, 1947, to Gottfried (Fred) Meier in Sun Prairie.

Mrs. Meier was employed as a secretary for Belda Insurance and Real Estate, Sun Prairie, for 30 years and was a resident of Columbus since 1947. She was a member of the Madison BMW Riders, St. Jerome Catholic Church, Columbus, and its Altar Society.

Survivors include one sister, Catherine (Jim) Susee, Sun Prairie; one brother, Henry Nellen, Milwaukee; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Nellen and Janice Nellen, both of Sun Prairie; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, "Fred", in 1983; and one sister, Agnes Salewski.

Friends may call on Monday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary service to be held at 7:45 p.m., at the Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus, and on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Columbus.

Mary N. Redeker
WAUPUN - Mary Nell Redeker, 64, of Grandview Lane, Waupun, died on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Waupun Memorial Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.

The funeral was held on Monday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m., at the Alto Reformed Church, Alto. The Revs. Ted Medema and Ted Lindman officiated. Burial was in Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun.

Mrs. Redeker was born on Sept. 9, 1936, the daughter of Gerald and Myrtle (Link) Straks. She was married on June 4, 1957, to Alton "Bud" Redeker.

Mrs. Redeker and her husband lived in the Alto and Waupun area all their lives. She was a member of the Alto Reformed Church, Alto, its Mission Circle, its Guild, and was a former Sunday school teacher. She was also a former 4-H leader, and co-chairman of the food committee of the Alto Fair. She was known for her quality baking and her love of quilt making.

Survivors include one son, Mitch (Rose) Redeker, Waupun; four daughters, Debbie (John) Beahm, Waupun, Jodi (Randy) Hinrichs, Richland Center, Kathy (Dave) Hase, Neenah, and Karyn Redeker, Menasha; nine grandchildren, Nick (Jenny), Ryan and Chelsea Redeker, Mike, Joe and Katy Beahm, and Beau, Quincy and Anna Hinrichs; one brother, Dale (Shirley) Straks, Waupun; two sisters, Sharon (Don) De Motts, Waupun, and Noreen (Rev. Mike) VanBuren, Michigan; three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Morgan Redeker, and Kendra Beahm; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends called on Sunday, Oct. 29, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Monday, Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. until the time of service, at the Alto Reformed Church, Alto.

A memorial has been established in her name.

Russell J. Brazee
Russell J. Brazee, 75, of 314 Front St., Beaver Dam, died on Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at his home.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Deacon Ed Cody will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mr. Brazee was born on July 15, 1925, in Fairview, Ill., the son of George and Jessie (Widger) Brazee. He was married on Jan. 3, 1953, to Elizabeth Bromberek at St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Mr. Brazee was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater and a recipient of a Presidential Citation. In 1951 he moved to Beaver Dam, and was a construction laborer in Local No. 1086, Fond du Lac. Russell enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Brazee, Beaver Dam; three sons, Paul Brazee, Waupun, Dave Brazee, Fox Lake, and Steve Brazee, Beaver Dam; two daughters Carol Brazee, Beaver Dam, and Jean (Jeffery) Kreuziger, Juneau; five grandchildren, Allen and Rachel Brazee, and Jamie, Jerry, and Joel Kreuziger; two brothers, Perry (Diane) Brazee, and Glen (Betty) Brazee, both of Bartonville, Ill.; three sisters, Mildred Stroman, Fredricksburg, Va., Cora (Melvin) Nall, Bath, Ill., and Aileen Wells, Marietta, Ill.; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Elmer, Carl, Paul and Clarence.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 5:30 p.m. until the time of service, at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Alvin C. Steinbach
ROLLA, MO. - Alvin C. Steinbach, 85, of Rolla, Mo., formerly of Columbus, died on Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at Phelps County Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Columbus. The Revs. G.F. Cares and Robert Wilke will officiate. Inurnment will be in Hillside cemetery, Columbus.

Mr. Steinbach was born on Dec. 15, 1914, in Columbus, the son of Edward and Selma (Strehmel) Steinbach.

Mr. Steinbach received his MA from Ohio State University in 1947. He taught German at Indiana Institute of Technology, was a translator at Battelle Institute and taught English and economics at Tiffin University, Dyke and Spencerian colleges. He taught German at the University of Missouri from 1947 to 1964, retiring as a professor in 1964. At the time of his death he was an Emeritus Professor of German at the University of Missouri, Rolla. He was a Navy veteran, serving in World War II from 1942 to 1945.

Survivors include five cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Roger.

Friends may call on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 6 p.m. until the time of service, at Zion Lutheran Church, Columbus.

The Ziedler Funeral Home, Columbus, is serving the family.
