Mary B. Bankers
COLUMBUS/DOYLESTOWN - Mary B. Bankers, 94, formerly of Doylestown, died on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at the Columbus Center.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Doylestown. The Rev. Donald Weicki will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery, Doylestown.

Mrs. Bankers was born on Feb. 16, 1906, in Doylestown, the daughter of William and Catherine (Barnett) Kehoe. She was married on Nov. 5, 1924, to Martin Bankers in Doylestown.

Mrs. Bankers was a lifelong resident of Doylestown until moving to the Columbus Center. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Doylestown, and the Altar Society.

Survivors include two sons, Raymond (Florence) Bankers, Pardeeville, and Gene (Jeanne) Bankers, Glastonbury, Conn.; one daughter, Kathleen (Bob) Heimlich, Middleton; one sister-in-law, Esther Kehoe, Rio; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Bankers; two brothers, Edward Kehoe and Joseph Kehoe; two sisters, Frances Langsdorf and Catherine Kehoe; and one brother-in-law, Harvey Langsdorf.

Alvin C. Hoppe
WATERTOWN - Alvin C. "Mike" Hoppe, 61, of 324 Union St., Watertown, died on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at his home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m., at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Watertown. The Rev. William D. Heiges will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran cemetery, Watertown. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Watertown Veterans Council.

Mr. Hoppe was born on June 15, 1939, in Richwood, the son of Frank Edward and Evelyn Helen (Horn) Hoppe.

Mr. Hoppe attended St. Mark's Lutheran Grade School and Watertown High School. He was employed at Watertown Metals as a press operator for the past 12 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving from Jan. 28, 1957, to May 11, 1960. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Watertown, and the Classic Chevy Club. He enjoyed helping family and friends and collecting antiques.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda (Michael) Thieme and Lori (Thomas) Dylak, both of Beaver Dam, and Lisa (Michael) Halladay, Belvidere, Ill.; one sister, Elaine Hoppe, Watertown; two brothers, Herbert W. (Barbara) Hoppe and Fred G. Hoppe, both of Watertown; one aunt, Edna Parker, Watertown; special friend, Mary Sue Rice, Beaver Dam; six grandchildren, Rebecca Thieme, Michael Thieme, Anthony Dylak, Jeremy Dylak, Toby Halladay and Michael Jordan Halladay; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Hoppe and Marvin Hoppe, in infancy; and two sisters, Carol Wagner and Shirley Horn.

Friends may call on Monday, Nov. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Hafemeister Funeral Home, Watertown, and on Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. until the time of service, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Watertown.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Watertown, or the charity of one's choice.

Friends may call on Monday, Nov. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 8 p.m., at the New Vangen Funeral Home, Rio.

Doris W. Fischer
CLYMAN - Doris W. Fischer, 76, of 800 Main St., Clyman, died on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church Clyman. The Rev. John G. Breitwisch will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Waterloo.

Mrs. Fischer was born on Oct. 6, 1924, in Watertown, the daughter of Otto and Elsie (Boettcher) Manke. She was married on Jan. 25, 1958, to William A. Fischer at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clyman.

Mrs. Fischer attended Zion Lutheran School, Clyman. She was a lifelong resident of Clyman. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Clyman. She enjoyed nature, crocheting and quilting.

Survivors include three sons, James (Yvonne) Fischer, Horicon, Don (Tiffany) Fischer and Dale (Stephanie) Fischer, both of Watertown; one brother, William (Jean) Manke, Randolph; five grandchildren, Tonya (Clayton) Roberts, Brock Fischer, Chase Fischer, William Fischer and Brittany Fischer; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Fischer, on Sept. 24, 1973; and one daughter, Susan Beal.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Nov. 7, from noon until the time of service, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clyman.

The Hafemeister Funeral Home, Watertown, is serving the family.

Darwin A. Martinson
IRON RIDGE - Darwin A. Martinson, 78, of Iron Ridge, died on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in Green Bay, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with emphysema.

The funeral with military honors will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m., at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford. The Rev. Geoffrey Hoy will officiate.

Mr. Martinson was born on May 14, 1922, in Oldham, S.D., the son of Charles Martin and Ida Mae Martinson. He was married on Feb. 17, 1954, to Florence Sonnenburg, in Waukegan, Ill. He was married on March 28, 1981, to Sally Margelowsky in Iron Ridge.

Mr. Martinson served in the U. S. Army from Nov. 5, 1942 to Sept. 30, 1949, as a mess sergeant. He moved to Wisconsin in 1949, after having served duties in Austin, Texas, France, Germany and Holland. He retired from the Miller Brewery in 1984.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Martinson, Iron Ridge; five sons, Howard (Linda) Martinson, Campbellsport, Edward (Melodee) Martinson, Crivitz, Richard (fiancee, Suzanne Mounreau) Martinson, Green Bay, Charles (Barbara) Martinson, DePere, and step-son Robert (Jean) Loehrke, Mayville; four daughters, Darlene (Thomas) Hoffmann, Fond du Lac, Charlene (finace, David Balza) Trajkovic, Green Bay, and step-daughters, Lori (Don) McLester, Oneida and Lisa Braun, Mayville; 24 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Florence; one brother, Edward; one daughter, Marlene Marie Martinson; and two grandsons, James Robert Martinson and Thomas Scott Hoffmann.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 3 to 7 p.m., at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford.

Karen Saul
WAUPUN - Karen Saul, 53, of 24 S. Mill St. Waupun, died on Monday. Nov. 6, 2000, at Hospice Home of Hope, Fond du Lac, after a courageous battle with cancer.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun. The Rev. Ron Markwart will officiate. Burial will be on Thursday, Nov. 9, in Marquette, Mich.

Mrs. Saul was born on March 25, 1947, in Milwaukee, the daughter of John and Mildred (Tommeral) French. She was married on Dec. 24, 1984, to Kenneth Saul in Milwaukee.

Mrs. Saul and her husband lived in Milwaukee until 1990, then moved to Atlanta, Ga. They returned to Milwaukee before moving to their present address in Waupun in 1995. She was employed by the city of Waupun as a ticket agent in its bus depot. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun.

Survivors include her husband, Ken Saul, Waupun; one daughter, Sue Bleick, Waupun; one son, Peter (Kristy) Harhay, Stevens Point; one sister, Renee (Michael) Kurbs, Woodstock, Ga.; her pets, Teddy Bear and Babbette; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 4 p.m. until the time of service, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun.

The Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, is serving the family.

Steven G. Sucharski
OAK CREEK - Steven G. Sucharski, 44, of Oak Creek, died on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m., at the Prasser-Kleczka Funeral Home, Oak Creek.

Mr. Sucharski was employed at the Laddish Co., Curtis Ambulance Company and was president of the I.A.M. local No. 1862.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Brenda (Mack) Sucharski; his children, Stephanie, Kathryn and Wendy; four brothers, John (Kathy) Sucharski; Dennis (Tammy) Sucharski, Jeffrey (Joann) Sucharski, and Michael (Liz) Sucharski; three sisters, Christine Sucharski, Cathy (Pat Matthews) Sucharski and Cheryl (George Guzinski) Sucharski; mother-in-law, Shirley Mack, Beaver Dam; father-in-law, Gary Mack, Beaver Dam; three sisters-in-law, Gail (Tim) Jahns, Vicki (Dan) Olson and Shelly (Bruce Rademacher) Mack; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 10, from 4 p.m. until the time of service, at the Prasser-Kleczka Funeral Home, 6080 S. 27th St., Oak Creek.

Donald L. Smith
COLUMBUS - Donald L. Smith, 90, of Columbus, died on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Columbus Community Hospital.

The combined funeral and Masonic service will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m., at Olivet Congregational United Church of Christ, Columbus. The Rev. Denise Cole will officiate. Entombment will be in the Garden of Faith Mausoleum, Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mr. Smith was born on March 20, 1910, in Columbus, the son of Charles and Ella Dadah (Comar) Smith. He was married on Oct. 6, 1934, to Vivian Kreckow of Horicon.

Mr. Smith was a 1929 graduate of Columbus High School where he was active in athletics and was captain of the basketball team that won a state trophy in 1929. He was a member of the Columbus Masonic Lodge F & AM No. 75 where he served as past Master and High Priest. He was a member of the Consistory, Zor Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Patron in 1950-51.

He spent most of his life in the utility field beginning with training at Western Electric Company installing toll equipment to telephone exchanges. He was later employed by Donovan Construction, St. Paul, Minn. He was then employed by the Columbus water and light department for 35 years, spending the last 17 years as superintendent. During this time he was active in the state associations of both water and electric departments.

In the water works field, he was a member of the Municipal Electric Utilities of Wisconsin and was past president of the association. After retirement Don served as its executive director for six years where the association bestowed upon him the distinguished service award and made him an honorary life member. He was instrumental in forming the Wholesale Power group and served as its president in 1968.

He served on Gov. Martin Schreiber's Alternative Energy Futures for Wisconsin in 1978. He was instrumental in the formation of Wisconsin Public Power Inc. (WPPI), and is a charter member of its Hall of Fame. He served four years on the Columbus Common Council, on the Columbus Industrial Corp. and was elected president in 1971; was past member of the Columbus Police and Fire Commission; was past president and honorary life member of the Columbus Rotary Club; was a past Boy Scout leader; was a member of the Oliver Congregational United Church of Christ since 1929, where he served on many committees including the church trustees.

He wrote the history of the first 75 years of the Columbus Electric Utility, the history of the Municipal Wholesale Power Group and the history of the Columbus Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Smith, Columbus; one son, Duane Smith, Lewistown, Mont.; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Smith, Myrtle Creek, Ore.; one daughter, Susan (Howard) Weissmann, Columbus; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Roberta Downing, Haines City, Fla.; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Genevieve Smith and Kathryn Williams; and one sister-in-law, Frieda Smith.

Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 10, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, at Olivet Congregational United Church of Christ, Columbus.

Memorials may be made to Olivet Congregational United Church of Christ memorial fund, or Shriners Hospital for Children at P.O. Box 31356, Tampa, Fla., 33631-3356.

Austin J. Steger
Austin James Steger, age three months and four days, of 1001 Mary St., Beaver Dam, died on Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. William Key will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter's cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Infant Steger was born on Aug. 2, 2000, in Beaver Dam, the son of James and Christie (Boerson) Steger Jr.

Survivors include his parents, Jim and Christie Steger Jr., Beaver Dam; maternal grandparents, Alvin (Ann) Boerson, Waupun; paternal grandparents, Terrance (Sandra) Ferstl Sr., Beaver Dam; great-grandparents, George (Elsie) Streekstra, Friesland, Allen Buske and Clarence (Elanore) Ferstl, all of Beaver Dam; aunts and uncles, Thomas Boerson, Waupun; Jeremy Boerson, Hartford, Wendy (Tim) Krause, Shawano, Jason (Trisha) Kaatz, Berlin, Deanna (Gary) Livingston, Beaver Dam, Pam (Mark Mitchell) Steger, Burnett, Terrance Ferstl Jr. Beaver Dam; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Bert (Edna) Boerson, Liedwina Buske, Myron (Al) Steger and Frank (Alice) Grenas; and his paternal grandfather, James Steger Sr.

Friends may call on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Irene V. Miller
VERNICE, FLA. - Irene V. Miller, 88, of Vernice, Fla., died on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000.

A family graveside service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m., at Riverside Memorial Park, Fox Lake. The Rev. Robert Moberg will officiate.

The Randolph Community Funeral Home is serving the family.

Maurice G. Cox
WAUPUN - Maurice Glen Cox, 78, of Waupun, died on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at his home

The funeral will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, at 8 p.m., at Kohls Community Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Doris E. Hanson will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Mound cemetery, Retreat.

Mr. Cox was born on May 11, 1922, in Liberty township, Vernon County, the son of Warren and Helen (Morrison) Cox. He was married on June 12, 1940, to Irene Runice. He was married on Aug. 11, 1948, to Betty Torgerson.

Mr. Cox attended Viroqua High School. He was very active in football and boxing. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He then farmed in the Redmound area. He and his wife moved to Waupun in 1956 where he was employed by Waupun Correctional as a guard for 23 years. He was a crossing guard on East Main Street for Washington School for nine years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Cox, Waupun; three sons, Dan (Angela) Cox, Mesa, Ariz., Michael (Theresa) Cox, Beaver Dam, and Maynard (Nancy) Cox, De Soto; several grandchildren; step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Hutchinson, French Island; one sister-in-law, Norma Cox, La Crosse; three brothers-in-law, Delmon (Lila) Torgerson, Neil (Jean) Torgerson, and Ralph (Mary) Torgerson, all of Rockford, Ill.; seven sisters-in-law, Mildred Young, and Jill Torgerson, both of Rockford, Ill., Joann (Layton) Scott, Memphis, Tenn., Phyllis (John) Williams, Conyers, Ga., Ila Lee, Mount Sterling, Donna Torgerson, De Soto, and Doris (Elmer) Henderson, McFarland; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Irene, on June 10, 1947, in childbirth with their second son; one son, Larry Roger Cox; one brother, Robert Cox; three brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
